Scalene Triangle:

A triangle where all sides are different lengths, this geometric shape is eye catching in a single color or in a blend.

Tile Shown: Scalene Triangle in Aegean Sea

For a backsplash like the one below try a blend of three tile colors, such as White Gloss, Aqua and Santorini Blue.

We like the idea of treating our Scalene Triangle like you would subway tile, like this:

6" Right Triangle:
The largest of our three right triangles, this size looks great for kitchen backsplashes, walls and flooring.

4" Right Triangle:
Slightly smaller than the 6" Right Triangle, the 4" will just get you a bit more pattern if you are working in a smaller space. This size would be perfect for a standard backsplash (18" to 24" high) or bathroom or fireplace application.

Though they may be the smallest, our 3" Triangles pack just as much punch as the larger sizes. Perfect for backsplashes, fireplace surrounds or your bathroom (their small size would be ideal for flooring too), these offer a mosaic feel.

Trend: ceramic tiles of an unusual shape

Cersaie 2015 international exhibition showed that ceramic tiles and irregularly shaped porcelain tiles are at the height of fashion this season.

First of all, hexagonal tiles and their imitation are popular, both plain and patterned. In addition to hexagons, many factories also offer more exotic tile shapes: hourglass, triangular and octagonal tiles, elements with rounded edges.

Hexagons for every taste

Current hexagon collections include Chicago and Docklands floor tiles from Cir & Serenissima, Fap Firenze porcelain floor tiles, Verso 25 Lucia rustic porcelain tiles, Vives Bunker versatile floor and wall tiles.

An interesting variant is a square or scalloped tile that looks like a piece of hexagonal or octagonal facing. Examples include the Oset Royal series (imitation of octagons) and Kerlife Hexagonal (imitation of hexagons).

Finishing with such tiles does not visually differ from "real" hexagons, but is faster and easier.

Triangular tiles

Large triangles from the Vives Elvida collection (32 cm on a side) with a small hole in the center create a unique visual effect. A single color in light colors focuses on the shape of the tile.

Vives Elvida is the perfect choice for high-tech or minimalist interiors. The finish of this ceramic tile is reminiscent of an unusual futuristic material and is perfect as a backdrop for designer furniture and original accessories.

Not as wide as hexagons, tiles are presented in a very extravagant form, for example, in the form of "stars" or irregular polygons. As a rule, it is used as a decor for one of the walls or a section of the floor, combined with rectangular or square tiles.

Exotic shapes in mosaics

Mosaics are also in vogue for extravagant shapes. Among the novelties of the last season are a ceramic mosaic in the form of rhombuses from Petracers, and a marble mosaic with octagonal chips Art&Natura Octagon Pattern.

Features of buying custom-shaped tiles

If you are going to buy custom-shaped tiles, remember some of the nuances associated with the peculiarities of its calculation and installation method.

Installation cost. To lay tiles of non-standard shape, you will need a master with extensive experience, the cost of whose services can be quite high.
Complicated quantity calculation. Calculating how many hexagonal or triangular elements will be needed for decoration is more difficult than calculating the required number of square tiles.
Due to the difficulties in trimming, it is better to take tiles with an unusual shape with a margin.
