Analogous Colors

When going for analogous color schemes, you will choose one base color. The other colors will be those directly next to one another on the color wheel.

For example, to create a low-contrast exterior, pair gray siding with an even darker tone like charcoal for the door and deck color. Then, choose a lighter gray for trim and accents. The main takeaway is to choose three colors next to one another on the color wheel to create an analogous scheme.

Triads

Earthy brown, contemporary black or light are just some of the options when choosing the best color for your wood floor. This checklist will help make your decision easier, especially if you're unsure.

1. What is the current color?

The starting point for finding the right color is the current shade of the coating. 3. What is your home like?

For many, it is important that the terrace matches the appearance of the house, including in terms of color. 1. Do not get attached to the design of the main house.

Of course, the spaces of the main part of the house and the design of the veranda should not argue with each other. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't experiment. Whatever the windows and balconies in the city apartments, they will not allow you to feel in nature like in a private house. Therefore, let the design of the veranda or terrace be focused not so much on the “internal” as on the “external”. Natural finishing materials, natural colors and unobtrusive natural details can become a link between home and garden.

2. Home environment can help you.

Closed or open veranda? To resolve this issue, take a look around: how windy the area is, how often it rains, how bright the change in seasonality is. After that, ask yourself what you expect from this space: placing a greenhouse with tropical plants on the veranda, if it is winter for nine months of the year, is unlikely to work (even glazing will not help here, the room will have to be insulated). At the same time, the open veranda has its undeniable advantages in the form of a morning breakfast in nature in the summer or evening tea drinking.

Nature will also help you to inspire your veranda. The coniferous surroundings of the forest prompted designer Elena Andreeva (already a fan of black) to use charcoal-colored transom bricks and deep dark porcelain stoneware in the decoration of the adjoining terrace. Supporting the idea is a teak table with a slate top. Spectacular black execution both from below, on the floor, and from above, under the roof, creates the effect of a widescreen cinema, in which a special place is given to nature: it is not held back by any walls - they simply do not exist. The absence of windows that can protect from the wind compensates for a real fireplace.

And the river helped set the mood and color for this house. The building stands on the banks of the Istra, so the theme of water is also reflected in the facade: the house is painted in a hazy blue hue, which is the main one for the terrace. A huge four-meter table joins the blue-gray palette, allowing the owners to arrange feasts right in the air. In another part of the terrace, a sofa and two chairs in the open air became a wonderful place to watch the floating clouds.

3. Consider the habits and needs of the whole family.

Remember that the space must match its owner. If you rarely gather a large company at the dacha, then most likely the option with a long four-meter table and a DJ setup will not suit you. Prefer quiet calm evenings? Then equip a cozy study-library on the veranda: the view of the garden from the window will pacify, and if you make the space open, then while reading books you can breathe fresh air and hear the birds singing.

When planning the arrangement of her own country house, designer Natalya Maslova was guided by the traditions of her entire family. “When I was just doing the planning, my mother laughed at me: “Well, why so many tables?” And in the winter garden, and in the dining room, and a small one in the kitchen, and a large barbecue table on the street, - says Natalia. “But that's the beauty of it. The family loves to get together on holidays and just like that.” Therefore, in addition to the dining area on the terrace, the designer placed a summer kitchen not far from the main house.

This decision turned out to be so successful that the owners spend the whole summer here. Since the kitchen with a stove and barbecue is located here, you can only return to the house at night. But even in winter, the place does not lose its popularity: a well-thought-out reliable roof protects from rain and snow, and warm fur skins-capes, which replace the usual textiles on pillows, allow you not to give up long gatherings.

Not only the purpose of the space should be comfortable, but also the style. So, when designing a house in France, designer Olga Kushnareva-Leone did not offer customers a typical Provencal motif for these places. After interviewing the client's family and receiving the wish "nothing rough and rough - only silky, smooth surfaces", Olga settled on a more appropriate American classic without excessive decorative elements. The terrace is appropriate: modern wicker furniture is adjacent to pairs of columns and stucco on the ceiling. True, paying so much attention to wall and ceiling decor, do not forget to take into account the climate.

4. Furniture should be not only beautiful, but also practical.

If you decide on an open veranda or terrace, you should take care of the furniture. Even those exterior items (including lighting and textiles) that you plan to put indoors for the winter should ideally still be outdoors: this way you don’t risk not recognizing your favorite chair after an unexpected downpour.

A striking example of the use of outdoor furniture is the summer terrace designed by ANCconcept. The atmosphere of the beach is set by sun loungers and bean bags, which are not afraid of bad weather. But the designers still decided to cover the area with a pergola and translucent polycarbonate, which allows the sun's rays to pass through and at the same time protects from rain. And the most risky and those whose roof is “blue sky” should pay attention to wicker furniture. The fact that it can be reliable and at the same time elegant is confirmed by the project of a house in the Moscow region.

5. Allow yourself everything at once.

With careful space planning, a veranda or terrace can replace all the rest of the house (or almost all). A canopy over your head will create shade and allow you to relax here from the heat of the day, a table nearby will give you the opportunity to eat with great appetite, a comfortable lounge area will bring friends and family together, and a deck board will not allow you to slip after swimming in the pool (if there is one).
