Rob Lowe recently sold the breath-taking mansion in Montecito near Santa Barbara he shares with his wife Sheryl – and while it took time to sell, the wait was more than worth it. The house was originally listed in 2018 at $47 million and with only one price cut in 2019 to $43 million, it just sold over the asking price at $45.5 million.

A classic East Coast style and a stand out from the general Mediterranean architecture in the area, the Lowe estate is sited on just over three acres. The main house was designed by architect Don Nulty, built in 2009 and encompasses 10,000 square feet. 

With a total of 20 rooms, including large open formal living rooms, a huge white and cheerful family kitchen, a separate catering kitchen, eight bedrooms, 11 baths, an office, library-music room with bar, family room, various conversation rooms and nooks, movie theater, well-equipped gym and expansive wine cellar, this house is worth a tour. In addition to the main house, the grounds contain a two-bedroom guest house, one-bedroom pool house with staff quarters and an outdoor kitchen. Also a pool and spa, tennis court with observation areas and lushly landscaped lawns large enough for team sports with mature trees and a vegetable garden.

The house is located in celebrity-studded Montecito; and the new owners will be rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s biggest stars, including Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and Gwyneth Paltrow. Montecito is a much-favored retreat away from the work-a-day world of filmdom, located 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains in Santa Barbara County with spectacular hillside views, nearby whale watching and beautiful weather.

Lowe became one of Hollywood’s youngest hot shots in the 1980s in hit movies The Outsiders, St, Elmo’s Fire and Oxford Blues and later in his role in the popular TV drama The West Wing.  More recently he has appeared in the comedy Parks and Recreation and reality-show adventures with his two sons in The Lowe Files.

MONTECITO, CALIF. — Maroon 5 leader Adam Levine and his wife, South African supermodel Behati Prinsloo, purchased the former Rob Lowe Montecito house on its sprawling 3.5 acres for $52 million according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.

In addition to Levine’s lucrative singing career, he has accumulated millions in real estate profits as part of their whirlwind buy-and-flip homes projects.

In 2020, Rob and his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, sold their longtime family home to healthcare executive Jack McGinley for $44.5 million. McGinley then sold the home to Levine and Prinsloo for a nice $7.5 million profit, in just two years. Levine and Prinsloo bought the house as an unadvertised pocket listing, which means there is no way of knowing what changes McGinley made during their tenure. However, knowing the frequent sales and huge profits Adam has made on his home sales (at least seven homes since 2012), there is no doubt that Adam and Behati have a plan in mind, which we will likely see in Architectural Digest in a year or two, stated TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.

Built-in 2009, the 10,000-square-foot Georgian Colonial-style home was designed by architect Don Nulty to resemble Lowe’s Charlottesville, Virginia birthplace. The décor is a bright-white interior filled with California sunshine and Pacific Ocean views. The home contains six bedrooms, eleven baths, large open formal rooms, a huge white-and-cheerful family kitchen, a separate catering kitchen, a wine room, multiple living and dining areas, a professional theater, and an expansive master suite, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.

Adding an architectural charm are details like vaulted ceilings, handmade crown moldings, custom millwork and view-framing windows. The home has an office, a library-music room with a bar and a family room. There are nine indoor fireplaces throughout the house with one in the master suite.

She also appeared in Maroon 5′s 2018 music video Girls Like You with her husband, their oldest daughter, and two dozen additional female celebrities. Adam and Behati’s most recent business venture is a tequila company, Calirosa, which went on the market last year. Levine, as frontman for Maroon 5, has pulled in numerous awards: three Grammys, three American Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and a World Music Award. Levine has taken a break from almost 10 years of work as a coach on The Voice.
