Hot Blending

Yes

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is a full-sized blender with a tamper to help redistribute food inside the jar. Its main jar has a 64-ounce capacity, and it comes with a pair of personal jars for single-serve blends like smoothies. However, the manufacturer warns against using it to crush ice without liquid in the jar, so it's not the most versatile blender.

Our Verdict

7.2 Multi-Purpose

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is decent for multi-purpose use. It has a 64-ounce main jar for big batches and two personal jars for single-serving drinks. You can use the main jar to hot blend, and it makes a very smooth blend with ingredients like kale.

Pros

Cons

8.3 Smoothies (Single Serving)

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is great for making single-serve smoothies. You can use either of its personal jars to make a silky smoothie in about a minute, even if your recipe includes fibrous ingredients like kale. There's a resealable lid included for each of them, meaning you can bring your drink on the go. The personal jars and lids are also dishwasher-safe, but unfortunately, the blade assembly for the personal jars needs to be cleaned by hand.

8.4 Smoothies (Multiple Servings)

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is great for making multiple servings of smoothie. The 64-ounce main jar can hold a big recipe, and even when it's filled to its full capacity, it makes an extremely smooth blend with ingredients like kale. It's very easy to clean by hand, and the main jar and its lid are dishwasher-safe. However, it's not as well-suited for making frozen drinks like slushies since it's not intended to process ice without liquid in the jar.

3.4 Ice Crushing

It's not recommended to use the NutriBullet Blender Combo to crush ice on its own, according to the manufacturer.

9. 5 Soups

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is fantastic for making soups. You can use the 64-ounce main jar to process hot ingredients right from the pan. It produces a very smooth blend with fibrous ingredients, so it's very well-suited for making silky vegetable soup or sauce. It's easy to clean by hand, and the jar and lid are dishwasher-safe.

6.8 Professional Use

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is okay for professional use. It's decently well-built and has a good 64-ounce capacity. You can use it to hot blend and smoothly puree fibrous ingredients, so it's best suited for making recipes like smoothies, soups, or sauces. However, it's not very versatile since it can't crush ice without liquid in the jar. Using it to process thick mixtures like nut butter is a tedious process. On the plus side, it's easy to clean by hand, and most of its components are dishwasher-safe, except for the blade assembly for the personal jars.

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The NutriBullet Blender Combo comes in one color, 'Dark Grey', but has a few variants with different accessories. The model we tested (ZNBF30550Z) comes with a 32 oz jar and a 24 oz jar. There's another variant (ZNBF50550Z) that seems to be identical, except its 24 oz jar has a handle. This model is sometimes called the NutriBullet 5-Speed Blender, and we expect our results to be valid for it as well.

If you come across another version, please let us know in the discussions, and we'll update our review.

Compared To Other Blenders

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is a full-size blender with two single-serve jars so you can take your food with you on the go. It can also safely blend hot ingredients, which is nice if you like to make soups. Unfortunately, according to the manufacturer's guidelines, it isn't meant to be used for processing ice without also adding liquid to the jar.

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is smaller than other full-sized blenders, like the Vitamix Explorian E310 or the Ninja DUO. It's not very heavy either, but you may need to store it on your counter instead of in a cupboard.

The NutriBullet Blender Combo has a satisfactory build quality. There are clicky and easy-to-use buttons on its front, making it easy to switch between modes. The transmission gear, the pitcher, and its additional jars are made from high-quality plastic, while the pitcher and extractor blade gearings are silicone. The to-go lids don't feel as durable since they feel somewhat brittle and could break more easily. The pitcher's handle is also a little loose, which can be a little annoying for some. Unfortunately, a part of our unit's plastic base broke off, and while we assume that this breakage happened in transit, it feels like bumps or drops could easily damage parts of this blender.

The NutriBullet Blender Combo's main blade assembly has six dull blades with tapered tips. You can't remove them from the main pitcher, but you can put the pitcher and the blades in your dishwasher. The separate blade assembly for the single-serve jars isn't dishwasher-safe, however.

The NutriBullet Blender Combo has a two-part lid that uses friction to stay closed. The removable center piece allows you to use the tamper or add ingredients mid-blend and doubles as a two-ounce measuring cup. Unfortunately, if there's any moisture around the lid's seal, it's difficult to close and tends to pop off the jar.

Fibrous Ingredients Processing

Fibrous Ingredients Texture

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is fantastic for processing small batches of fibrous ingredients. Using the 'Extract' automatic blending program and the 24-ounce personal jars, it makes a nearly perfectly smooth blend with ingredients like kale. Using the same amount of ingredients, you get similar results in the 64-ounce main jar and the 32-ounce personal jar, although that jar produces a slightly grainier blend.

Jar Used Main Jar

Fibrous Ingredients Processing

Fibrous Ingredients Texture

It's superb for processing big batches of fibrous ingredients. If you fill the 64-ounce jar to its full capacity, it makes an extremely smooth puree with ingredients like kale. Unlike when making a single-serve blend, you need to run the blender manually for about half a minute on 'High' after using the 'Extract' program, but it's still a very easy process.

According to the manual, the blender isn't meant to be used as an ice crusher without adding liquid to the jar. If you want a blender that can crush ice on its own, check out the NutriBullet PRO 1000 or the Vitamix 7500.

Nut Butter Preparation

Nut Butter Texture

The NutriBullet Blender Combo isn't well-suited for making nut butter. It can make decent, spreadable nut butter, but it takes a lot of time and effort. You need to stop the blender frequently to scrape the sides of the jar and stir the mixture around the blades so that the ingredients continue to blend. In the end, there are no unprocessed chunks, but the nut butter is dry and sticky compared to what you can make in blenders like the KitchenAid K150.

The NutriBullet ZNBF30500Z is very easy to clean by hand. Running the blender with soap and water in the jar does most of the work for you, even if you're working with sticky ingredients. You need to quickly wipe the jar, lid, and blades to remove any leftover residue. Since the blades are sharp and non-removable, you probably need a brush with a handle to clean them, but it's a very easy process overall.

NutriBullet Blender Combo review | Homes & Gardens

NutriBullet is one of the big blending brands that dominates the world of personal cup blenders. But even if you’re a fan of smoothies and protein shakes, those small blenders just don’t cut it when it comes to blending homemade soup, or anything else that you’ve made in a bigger batch, for that matter. This is where the NutriBullet Blender Combo comes in. It’s got all the convenience of a full-size blender with a large 64oz pitcher, but you still get to enjoy creating your post workout shakes in one of the two to-go cups. It’s an affordable 2-in-1 appliance that should cover all your liquidizing needs, but is it one of the best blenders on the market?

You’ll notice from the power outlet in the images below that I tested it in the UK. It’s exactly the same model as the US version, the only difference is that it’s light gray instead of dark gray and the UK model comes with a third small blending cup.

NutriBullet does sell the full-size blender without the to-go cups, so it’s worth considering that option if smoothies and protein shakes aren’t your thing. However, I enjoyed having the best of both worlds in this blender. I could create large batches of smooth soup as well as enjoy protein smoothies in a handy cup, without having to give up space in my kitchen for two blending appliances.

NutriBullet Blender Combo: First Impressions

The base of the blender is compact, it doesn’t take up much counter space at all, but add in the cups, lids and blade assembly and you’ve got quite a lot to store. Keep in mind though that it’s still less than if you had a full-size blender as well as a separate personal blender.

The motor base is plastic, and it doesn’t have the heavy, sturdy quality that you get from premium blender brands. The suction cup feet mean it should stay in place on the counter though. And with just six clearly labelled buttons, it really couldn’t be simpler to operate. There’s one auto program called Extract, three speed settings and a pulse button as well as an on/off switch.

The pitcher twists into position on the base, with the handle to either the left or the right depending on your preference. I like the big pouring spout and the lid isn’t tough to attach, plus it’s got a big, looped pull-handle that makes it easy to remove. Unfortunately though, there’s no safety feature to stop you switching the blender on without the lid in place.

There’s a vented lid cap which can be removed to use the tamper or to pour in additional ingredients during blending, and it doubles as a small measuring cup. The tamper itself doesn’t feel as strong and sturdy as others I’ve used but it’ll do the job.

The two personal blending cups are slightly different sizes, the smaller one has a handle, and I tested the to-go lids for leaking by holding them upside down and shaking them when full, fortunately not a drop was spilt, and they passed the test. The blade assembly twists easily onto the cups and clicks into position on the base for quick, easy smoothies and shakes.

You get a recipe book in the box, which is also available to download on the website and provides helpful hints and tips as well as a variety of recipes to get started.

Blending smoothies in the NutriBullet Blender Combo

I followed the recipe for the super blue smoothie in the recipe book. But I switched the blueberries and frozen banana for mixed frozen berries to make use of what I already had in the freezer. The other ingredients were spinach, milk, almond butter, cinnamon and protein powder and I added them to the cup in the order listed.

I blended it using the Extract program. On my first attempt, I packed the spinach too tightly into the bottom of the cup and it didn’t drop down towards the blades until late in the cycle, so I repeated the smoothie later in the week and didn’t pack the spinach in quite so firmly. This time, everything blended well and all the ingredients were thoroughly mixed. The finished smoothie did have some visible specks of berry skin and judging by the quantity of berries in there, I could tell that a lot of the seeds had been crushed up, but a few remained, so it had a slightly gritty texture.

For my second smoothie I blended raw shredded carrot and beetroot with ginger, grapes, orange juice, chia seeds, ground linseed and ice. Again, I used the Extract program and the chia seeds were completely pulverized, with no evidence of them in the texture of the drink. The raw carrot and beetroot gave the smoothie a fine pulpy texture, but everything else was fully liquidized and combined into a delicious drink with no lumps at all.

Crushing ice in the NutriBullet Blender Combo

In just seven presses of the pulse button, two handfuls of ice cubes were crushed to a fine snowy ice. I did notice one small chunk that got lodged in the crushed ice and so remained un-crushed but it was an impressive result nevertheless.

Blending soup in the NutriBullet Blender Combo

While the instructions strictly state that you shouldn’t blend hot soup in the personal cups, the pitcher can be used to blend hot liquids. I made a spicy curried carrot and butternut squash soup, leaving the carrot and butternut pieces quite chunky so it would be a good test. I couldn’t find any temperature restrictions in the instruction manual so poured my hot soup into the pitcher without letting it cool. I started the blender on low, then increased to the medium speed after a short time.

In just one minute the chunky vegetables had been fully blended into a smooth thick soup with no lumps or gritty bits. The vented lid cap allowed the steam to vent out of the lid during blending but maintained a tight seal, so no liquid leaked out, and the suction cup feet kept it secured to the kitchen counter. But having said that, it doesn’t feel as sturdy as some of the heavier, more robust blenders I’ve reviewed.

My very yellow carrot soup had curry powder in it and after cleaning the pitcher I noticed a slight yellow staining to the plastic pitcher and also the area around the blades. This didn’t really bother me, but if you like your appliances to stay looking pristine, it might be worth avoiding strongly colored spices like turmeric.

Blending a frozen dessert

I followed the recipe for a simple healthy N’ice cream that’s on the NutriBullet website. It’s just four bananas sliced and frozen, blended with almond milk and some vanilla.

I blended it on high speed in the main pitcher and I had to continually mix and push the ingredients towards the blade using the tamper. However, at the end I had a deliciously creamy and smooth healthy frozen dessert with a perfect ready-to-eat texture in just one minute. It was very satisfying and the hard frozen banana was no match for the sharp blades of the pitcher.

Cleaning

The pitcher, cups and lids are all dishwasher safe, so cleaning is easy. But frustratingly the base of the pitcher doesn’t have any holes to let water drain away so it fills up during the dishwasher cycle. The extractor blade that’s used with the cups can’t go in the dishwasher, but it just requires a rinse under the faucet to remove most smoothie residues.

Some blenders come with auto clean programs and despite not having this setting, the user guide advises you on how to clean both the pitcher and the cups by filling them with water and dishwashing liquid and blending the residues away.

Should you buy the NutriBullet Blender Combo?

If you’re looking for an affordable blender with a large pitcher that also doubles as a personal blender, you could do worse than the NutriBullet Blender Combo. I was pleased with most of my creations using this blender and I like that it can blend hot liquids too. It’s great to have the option to blend large quantities in the pitcher as well as make my post-workout protein shakes in the cups.

It doesn’t feel or look like a premium blender, and it’s not packed with auto programs or numerous blending speeds, but it does the job, and it’s easy to use. Plus, all the accessories are available to purchase on the NutriBullet website so you can get extra cups or replace worn-out blades as needed.

Save these instructions!
FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY

GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
HEAT SAFETY AND PRESSURE

MIXING WITH NUTRIBULLET® CUPS:
To avoid injury, never mix hot ingredients or liquids in sealed NutriBullet® cups!

WARNING!
Heated ingredients can create pressure in closed containers when shaken and cause cup and blade to separate or violently eject hot contents when opened. Always start the mixing process with ingredients and liquids at room temperature or chilled (21°C/70°F or below).

Never run continuously longer than necessary to create a recipe - usually less than one minute. Friction from continuous operation can heat ingredients and create internal pressure in a sealed container. This pressure may cause the bowl and blade to separate or mix the contents of the container, which may result in personal injury and/or property damage. If the sealed NutriBullet® cups are warm to the touch,

turn off the machine and allow the jar to cool for fifteen minutes or more. Allow the contents to settle before slowly removing the bowl from the motor base. With the NutriBullet ® bowl pointed away from the face and body, slowly unscrew the lightly rotating extractor blade to gently release any residual pressure.

If you need to mix for more than one minute, mix at 1 minute intervals. After each 1 minute interval, allow the motor base to shut down completely and wait at least one minute before starting the next cycle. Do not run more than 3 consecutive 1-minute intervals to prevent content from overheating. Allow the contents to settle for 2-3 minutes after the third mixing cycle to prevent overheating and pressure buildup.

The sugar in fruits and vegetables can ferment over time, releasing gases that cause the NutriBullet® sealed cup to build up pressure. Do not store smoothies or blends in containers covered with slightly twisted extractor blades. If you do not intend to consume the smoothie immediately, remove the easy-turning extractor blade and cover the NutriBullet® cup with plastic wrap before placing it in the refrigerator. If your smoothie or blend was made in a jug, transfer it to another storage container before refrigeration. Never store the mixed formula in a sealed cup without refrigeration or for an extended period of time; the contents will spoil and ferment, releasing gases that can cause an eruption.

Never mix carbonated liquids or effervescent ingredients (eg baking soda, baking powder, yeast, etc.). The pressure of the escaping gases can cause the sealed mixing container to rupture, resulting in personal injury and/or property damage.

MIXING WITH CUSHINE:

Be especially careful when mixing hot liquids in a jug. Never turn on the power while using the jug without the vent cap inserted and locked in the jar lid, as ingredients may splatter and hot or warm items may cause thermal injury and/or property damage.

Steam and spilled ingredients may escape from the jar lid, which may scald and/or burn the user. NEVER mix hot liquids in a jug unless the jug lid and vented lid are closed and attached. Vented lid allows steam and pressure to escape while protecting against overspray. NEVER mix hot liquids in NutriBullet® cups or any other closed container.

When mixing hot liquids, add liquid and solid ingredients to the jug below their respective MAX lines. Install the pitcher lid by inserting and locking the vented lid. Press the POWER button and start mixing with the LOW setting. Once the ingredients are mixed, increase the speed as needed.

If the NutriBullet ® mixes for more than one minute, the friction of the blades can cause the ingredients to heat up and create internal pressure inside the jar. If the mixing vessel feels warm to the touch, turn off the machine and allow the mixing vessel to cool completely before carefully opening it away from the body to avoid injury.

BLADE SAFETY

Never store extractor blades with a slight twist at the base of the motor that are not attached to a NutriBullet® cup. An open blade may present a cut hazard.

Care and maintenance.

NutriBullet® is easy to clean. The pitcher is dishwasher safe and the TOP RACK cups and lids are dishwasher safe. The easy twist extractor blade and motor base can be quickly washed by hand with soap and water. Check out the best practices.

Here's how to clean the NutriBullet®:

STEP 1: Most importantly, ALWAYS TURN OFF THE MACHINE and UNPLUG the motor unit from the outlet when not in use. Do not try to pick up the device until all its parts stop moving! This includes during assembly and disassembly, when changing accessories during cleaning, and any time you leave the machine unattended.
STEP 2: Detach the NutriBullet® cup/extractor blade with a slight twist or jug from the motor base.
STEP 3: Clean the individual components (motor base, spinning extractor blade, NutriBullet® cups) as recommended on the following pages.

MOTOR BASE:

WARNING: Never immerse the motor base in water.

EASY-TWIST EXTRACTOR BLADE:
NUTRIBULLET® GLASSES AND LIDS:

These items can be washed in the TOP RACK dishwasher. Before placing in the dishwasher, we recommend rinsing and rubbing them quickly with a dish brush to remove any remaining debris. NEVER use the disinfection cycle to wash cups - high temperatures can warp the plastic.

NUTRIBULLET® JAR:

WARNING: Blades are sharp! Be careful when cleaning the jug.

TAMPER
CLEANING THE STUBBORN:

If ingredients stick to NutriBullet® cups, easy-twist extractor blades, or jug, here's an easy cleaning solution: Fill the vessel with room temperature water (21°C/70°F or less) up to the MAX mark and add 1-2 drops of dishwashing detergent. For cups, turn the extractor blade with a slight twist and stir on the motorized base for 20-30 seconds. For a jug, close the lid and mix on the motor base for the same time, 20-30 seconds. This should loosen the debris enough to be washed off with soap and water.

How to store:

Store the NutriBullet® Blender Combo jar upright with the jar lid on top. Do not put anything on the lid of the jug. Store the remaining parts in a safe place where they will not be damaged or cause harm.

WARNING: NEVER store the easy-twist extractor blade on the motor base without a NutriBullet® cup or jar, as exposed blades present a serious cut hazard.

NutriBullet Blender Combo Review: King of Smoothies0001

Author Zotov Alexey For reading 5 min. Views 25

  • Single serving blender cup
  • Eject button for perfect smoothies
  • NutriBullet is striving to put its "As Shown on TV" past behind it and strive to become a health-conscious brand. As part of the rebrand, the company introduced its first full-size NutriBullet Blender Combo ($140). The company is positioning the new blender as a competitor to top blenders like the Vitamix at a much lower price point.

Magic Bullet NutriBullet is our favorite personal blender. , but we were wondering how his big brother would stand up to some of the other big competitors in the blender market. So, we did some rigorous testing to see how well the NutriBullet Blender Combo compares.

    Contents

    1. First impressions
    2. Features and design
    3. Performance and use
    4. Our opinion
    5. How long will it last?
    6. Should you buy?

    First Impressions

Wide Base The NutriBullet Blender Combo takes up the same space as a regular blender and then some as it has two cups, one for one 32 oz serving and the other for 64 oz. jug. I know you may not mind this as it is a 2-in-1 product, but this is something to consider if you have limited space.

The modern stainless steel body is much like the more expensive blenders on the market and is heavy. The weight is a good feature because lighter blades tend to be unstable and bounce during hard work. It also has suction cups on the bottom to keep it securely attached to your countertop no matter how harsh the mixing gets.

Buttons are low profile, nearly flush with the base surface, meaning spills are easy to clean up. No need to break out cotton swabs to get food pieces out of nooks and crannies on the control panel.

The modern stainless steel body is very similar to more expensive blenders on the control panel. market, and quite heavy.

The controls are also easy to use right out of the box. Unlike the BlendTec Designer 725, which has 100 different speed settings, the Combo has only five. For most people, you will need Extract, Low, High, Medium, and Pulse anyway.

    Features and Design

Several other great features make it stand out from the crowd. One of the first features you might notice is the "Extract" button. This pre-programmed button is used to take smoothie ingredients including whole fruit and ice cubes and turn them into a smoothie with one touch. When the smoothie process is completed, it will automatically turn off.

While the NutriBullet Blender Combo seems to focus on making smoothies, with its mini blender cup and eject button, it doesn't forget hot meals. The full-size blender jar has a vented lid that allows you to blend hot foods. I especially like the lid, because in the kitchen I cook hot soups more than anything else. Just don't try this trick with a small disposable blender cup.

The 1200W motor base is a big step up from the 600W Magic Bullet NutriBullet motor, but still falls short of our favorite full size blenders with 1500W to 1725W motors.

As advertised, it can produce a damn good smoothie with its Extract software feature.

    Performance & Usage

Since the NutriBullet Blender Combo has a button specifically for making smoothies, this is the first one I tested. As stated, with the help of the “Eject” button, the device went through several speeds and it turned out to be a damn good smoothie. The ice was finely chopped and the pitted peach I added was nicely mixed in. The smoothie didn't have any pieces of peel, which can be a problem with other blenders.

Then, I tried hot food. With hot potato chunks and liquid, mix soup into smooth potato soup. The only problem is that the blender was jumping around a lot even with the suction cups attached to my stand.

Although it works great, it can be very loud.

While it works great, I can't help but notice how loud it sounds. I thought the suction cups would help muffle the noise a bit, but no luck. If this bothers you, then you can choose the Breville Super Q blender, which we have selected as the quietest blender.
