Front Door Color Ideas and Inspiration
Give your front door a dose of fresh color to perk up your home's facade and extend a gracious welcome. Whether you do-it-yourself or hire a painting pro, Benjamin Moore has you covered.
Refreshing your front door provides an easy way to make a lasting first impression. While any Benjamin Moore exterior paint—in your choice of 3,500+ colors—will work wonders, we love AURA Exterior paint in satin or soft gloss for a beautiful, slightly glossy finish.
A Colorful Front Door: The Case for Contrast
Typically, exterior design and color lean towards neutral hues. Why not opt for a pop of color on your front door to showcases your personality? Use a rich, saturated paint color that complements your home's architecture and highlights your landscaping.
An easy DIY project, updating your home's front door is a fun way to share your personal style with neighbors, family and friends.
Consider Neutral Paint Colors with Eye-Catching Undertones
Love the idea of a bolder color on your front door, but not quite ready to commit? Try out a deep neutral paint color with a prominent undertone. This approach combines subtlety and “notice me,” providing the best of both worlds!
Here, a front door in Sea Life 2118-40, an elegant gray, is emboldened by a purple undertone. Other neutral front doors with bold undertones we love include:
- Crownsville Gray HC-106: A gentle gray hue with prominent green undertones.
- Harvest Brown 2104-30: An inviting shade of brown with warm red undertones.
- Evening Dove 2128-30: An intriguing neutral with undertones that sit on the intersection of blue, charcoal, and black.
Set your bold neutrals against white or off-white siding for a crisp, classic look as seen on this exterior painted in Horizon OC-53.
Stay Cool
Green, gray and blue doors are a naturally gracious expression for the entrance to your home, especially when they contrast with a house’s warm undertones.
For impact, search for saturated colors that will pop from surrounding architecture, as seen here in this this elegant front door, painted in Mopboard Black CW-680.
Check out our best-selling paint colors, organized by color family. From dramatic, smoldering black hues to spirit-lifting yellows to ocean-inspired blues, it's a great guide for narrowing down your choices.
Notes on Harmony
When thinking about painting your front door, take color cues from the paint colors inside your home. What paint colors does your front door open into? Use a color from your interior spaces for color continuity, as seen here with Aegean Teal 2136-40 on the front door as a lovely extension of the soft blue-green Gray Cashmere 2138-60.

BEST FRONT DOOR COLORS
When guests approach your home, the first thing they see is usually your front door. Trust me, if it's cracked and flaky or dull and dull: your guests (or potential buyers) will notice.
The front door is your opportunity to make a good first impression, so it's important not to treat it as an afterthought or, worse, forget it altogether.
“The front door greets us daily and is a key design element when considering the appeal of borders,” says Sue Kim, senior designer at Valspar Paint.
Attention to the front door can pay off in less superficial ways. From over 135,000 photographs of homes sold across the country, the color of your front door can affect your home's resale value, according to a recent analysis.
Homes with black or charcoal front doors are selling for $6,271 more than expected. For a seller, painting the front door is one of the least expensive home preparation projects, but also one that can have a strong impact on a home's selling price, Zillow design expert Kerry Kelly said in a statement.
