Before the onset of your favorite holidays, there is nothing more interesting than turning into Santa Claus and decorating windows with various patterns. Just a couple of decades ago, paper snowflakes were the main decor for glass, but now, armed with scissors or a special knife, you can create a real snow-covered city on the window. This is done using stencils that are cut out and glued to the windows. There are several ways to make such decor at home, we will consider them in more detail.

New Year's stencil with your own hands
there is nothing easier than taking the finished stencil template, cut it out and stick to the window. The most difficult link in this process will be printing the template, since not everyone has a printer at home. In this case, you can create New Year's decor yourself, even if you do not have the talent of an artist.
Tools and materials:
- paper;
- pencil;
- scissors;
- art knife;
- cover.
Manufacturing technology:
- We take a sheet of A4 paper and draw a spruce branch diagonally. We draw a thin line, and around it we make frequent zigzags in an arbitrary shape.
- Cut out the spruce branch with scissors and start making balls.
- Cut a sheet of A4 paper in width into three equal parts. Take one piece and fold it in half. We select a cover of a suitable size, apply it to the half of the sheet and circle it with a pencil.
- Inside the resulting semicircle, draw a Christmas tree, slightly wrap the branches up. On the inside, parallel to the walls of the ball, we make a small pattern.
- We draw the top of the ball, make a fastening and a loop, and draw a thin line with a ruler, parallel to the fold.
- Cut out the design using scissors and a craft knife, unfold the product and get a perfectly symmetrical Christmas ball.
- From the second part of the paper sheet we make a similar ball, but with a different decor. Inside the toy, draw circles and parallel lines. We cut out the New Year's ball and get the third element of the stencil.
- The last part of the sheet is useful for creating a bell with a bow, draw also half of the decoration and cut it out. We decorate the bell with a strip with rhombuses and small lines on the bow.
We make three small snowflakes with any pattern and combine the composition. We attach balls and a bell to the spruce branch, and decorate the space around with snowflakes.

Tip!
The technique of working with a clerical knife has its own secrets. To make the edges in the stencil sharper, start cutting from the corners, not towards them. When cutting circles, turn the paper, not your hand.
Winter fairy tale on the windowsill
Winter fairy tale on the windowsill
New Year's stencils can not only be glued to the glass, but also placed on the windowsill, creating magical compositions. The most popular option is a winter town surrounded by snow-covered trees. Thanks to a few simple tricks, you can make lighting in the city and create a unique atmosphere of Father Frost's homeland.
Tools and materials:
- stencils;
- scissors;
- utility knife;
- double sided tape;
- string of lights;
- wooden base;
- cotton.
Manufacturing technology:
- We cut out stencils along the contour, you can use sharp scissors or a clerical knife. The main thing is not to rush and carefully work with small details.
- In the house we cut out the windows, with a clerical knife we select the silhouette of a deer.
- We fold the stencils along the joints, glue them with double-sided tape and cut off excess parts.
- Glue stencils to the wooden base.
- From paper we make a part for decorating the side parts, measure the desired segment and cut it out. Glue the sides to the base.
Put the garland on the base between the stencils, make a small hole in the paper and pull its end out. We decorate the composition with cotton balls and turn on the garland.

Tip!
To make the composition more durable and last for a long time, cut out stencils from thick paper or cardboard.
Decorating windows with snow patterns
Using paper stencils, you can create unusual and spectacular patterns on windows. You can use ready-made templates or come up with your own, it all depends on your choice. To apply the picture, you will need artificial snow in cans. You can also use ordinary toothpaste diluted with water, but artificial snow is more convenient to use and allows you to apply patterns evenly and efficiently.
Window decor with snow patterns
To decorate windows, it is necessary to make practical reusable stencils. There are several types of materials used for stencils:
- office paper - an affordable, but thin and impractical material that deforms after a couple of applications;
- Whatman paper and printing paper - excellent for vertical application of drawings, withstand more than twenty applications and are sold at any stationery store;
- cardboard - the stencil made of this material is easy to cut and decor is easy to apply;
- plastic binders - stronger and more durable than paper, great for making handy stencils for vertical application and easy to cut;
- dense files - often used in creative work, however, they are small and rather thin, which can make drawing difficult.
Snow Spray Decor
In this tutorial we will use small plastic squares that are easy to work with. The resulting stencils can be used not only for decorating windows, but also for decorating gifts, as well as for drawing.
Tools and materials:
- stencil templates;
- plastic;
- tape;
- cutting board;
- utility knife;
- sprayed artificial snow.
Manufacturing technology:
- We print or draw stencil templates on paper.
- Using adhesive tape, we attach the plastic to the paper template, put a cutting board, and carefully cut out the drawings with a clerical knife.
- We separate the stencils from the paper, apply them to the glass, and apply artificial snow. Evenly spray the dye, holding the stencil with your hand.
We remove the plastic blank and admire the magical drawings on the glass. As templates, you can use bells, snowflakes, Christmas trees and images of the symbol of the year according to the eastern calendar.
