Give your modern bedroom design a platform. The low slung platform bed has become a highly desired piece of modern bedroom furniture, and they come in a whole host of designs and finishes. This one is upholstered in an eye-catching red fabric over the base and an attached low level headboard. A copper and grey panelled feature wall complement its russet tones.

Colour your way to a restful night’s sleep. A vision of blue greets us in bedroom number two. Blue is a serene and soothing colour, and could help promote relaxation and sleep.

Create a stunning headboard feature wall using light and shade. This design uses extruded panels and LED strip lights to make a truly unique installation that you won’t find round your friend’s pad.

Make a small bedroom feel bigger by installing a floor-to-ceiling frameless mirror. The reflection of the room in the mirror confuses the eye into seeing a larger space.

Warm up a plain white bedroom scheme with modern wall sconces in gleaming copper. A bright accent chair will help the scheme to pop too.

Unique ceiling fans are a must in warm climates. Consider the beauty of your ceiling fan as an integral part of the decor, as you would with a bedroom pendant light. Statement bedroom wall clocks make a nice alternative to an apologetic looking tiny bedside alternative too.

Headboard storage niches are a great option if space is limited for bedside tables. This bedroom design has both.

Consider hanging a pendant light over the bedside unit instead of taking up valuable table space with a lamp. The contemporary bedroom chandelier in this scheme is a real show stopper. A bedside floor lamp is another trendy alternative.

Choose wall mounted bedside shelves rather than floor standing units for a clean and crisp look. These two bedside shelves hold copper desk lamps on top and stow the usual bedside clutter out of sight in a shallow hidden drawer.

Layer up bedroom lighting options. This design has an illuminated headboard feature wall, bedside table lamps and a ceiling light installation that looks like a sculptural piece of art.

Visually anchor your bed in the room by placing a large area rug beneath it. It will also keep your toes cosy till you get your slippers on.

Go asymmetrical with the bedroom pendant lights you hang over bedside units, it will loosen up a static layout.

Reflective closet doors will make your bedroom feel bigger, rather than just closing off the occupied space.

Minimalist bedrooms aren’t just for minimalists. A tidy room promotes a tidy mind, and a tidy mind leads to restful sleep. The white bed frame looks so zen here.

Try decorating with light instead of colour…

… Or even with coloured light.

If you can’t settle on a specific colour of light, buy LED strips with colour changing capabilities.

Don’t go too mad with a favourite colour. If you’ve fallen in love with a bold bed or bedroom accent chair, then take it easy on the backdrop and go for a neutral shade to pull it all together.

Open up the side of an en suite bathroom. The latest bedroom designs feature open plan bathrooms and shower rooms. The combined rooms certainly make the space feel a lot larger but the exhibitionist nature of the layout perhaps isn’t for shy types.

A four poster bed always has, and always will, bring a certain something to a bedroom. Imagine this same room without the top frame on the bed… just doesn’t hit the same mark does it.

Forget about hanging your wall art. Propping a large piece of wall art on the floor, or even layering up a few pieces, evokes a cool laid back atmosphere.

Refresh your sleep space with the living greenery of indoor plants.

If you like this geometric headboard wall design, check out these other great bedroom accent wall ideas.

Consider all of your colour options. A room with lots of natural daylight doesn’t automatically put all the decor possibilities in the light end of the colour spectrum. A dark bedroom decor scheme could help you to feel cosy and cocooned.

Zone a sleep space with a podium. A bedroom in a small studio apartment, or a large loft space like this one, can be zoned by building a step up from the rest of the open plan layout. The raised floor acts as a podium on which the bed and bedroom furniture can stand.

A platform bed doesn’t have to be all hard lines and sharp corners. Check out this curvaceous little number.

Bring some sheen to the bedsides with oversized metallic globe pendant lights.

Install a glass partition wall around an en suite to open up the space but keep bathroom steam inside. Privacy curtains can be drawn around the outside when in use.

Decorate with a shape theme. This bedroom has concentric circles swirling over the headboard, a circular area rug on the floor, and rounded pendant lights over the bedsides.

Fashion a headboard storage wall. The extra storage cubbies compensate for the lack of space on small side tables.

Make use of every available space. This built-in house bed sits flush with the eaves and has a bespoke bookcase at the opposite side. There are also book shelves and cabinets in the space behind the bed. If this is a bit of you, then you’ll love these other bedrooms for book lovers.

Select dual tone bedclothes. Even a bed of neutrals can look interesting if you mix and match two different colours, like this mid grey and soft brown ensemble.

The carpet is from Nourison, and the curtains are from the Shade Store.

The headboard was upholstered in a Pierre Frey fabric, and the curtains are by Cowtan & Tout. Underfoot is a custom Medina rug by Eskayel.

8

Lower the Pendant

Francesco Dolfo

In Milan, anything goes. Case in point: Designer Paolo Castellarin installed a Flos pendant to hover next to the pillows. Some might have an issue with this, but stylishly irreverent is something we should all aspire to be. The Vico Magistretti bed from Flou is topped with Loro Piana throws and Fornasetti pillows. The wall paint is RAL Pale Brown, and the window paint is RAL Green Beige.

What’s that peering through from behind the creamy bedding? It’s all our eyes can see. Is it...? Why, yes. Advantages and disadvantages of modern style in bedroom design

With the development of new technologies in the field of building finishing materials and furniture production, painting of plastered walls and floors is a thing of the past, expensive, labor-intensive, and complex in the care of parquet, bulky bedroom sets and heavy curtains. They were replaced by textured plaster, creative wallpaper, suspended ceilings, laminate, carpet, modular furniture, blinds and roller blinds. They are easy to install, practical and easy to maintain. Panoramic windows add light and create a sense of space.

Natural wood furniture is at the peak of popularity, and can consist of separate modules that are easily transformed, swapped, creating an exclusive composition each time. With their help, the space of a modern bedroom becomes not only functional, but also stylish. Along with environmentally friendly materials, when filling the bedroom, MDF and plastic furniture is also used to reduce the cost.

By observing the harmony in the color scheme, it is possible to get a single sleeping space from disparate objects that meets the new trends in decoration. The boundaries of modern styles are in close contact with each other, the stylistic direction is sometimes captured only by the accents of the furniture and decorative details used in the design.

Space zoning can be achieved using modular systems, through the use of organically integrated lightweight sliding partitions, decorative structures, screens or curtains.

Dressing rooms, bathrooms and offices, as well as boudoirs can be moved outside the bedroom, or vice versa, if the area allows, be part of it,

or a continuation in the attached loggia or balcony.

To visually divide the space, designers also actively use podiums, raising part of the floor surface of one zone relative to another by several centimeters.

Another of the planning solutions for highlighting conditional boundaries is the use of ceiling beams and consoles, which do not interfere with the arrangement of furniture and the passage of light, but only visually highlight part of the room.

To highlight the bedside area in modern design, textured wallpaper or plaster, wood, leather and imitation stone, or open shelving can be used.

Modern bedroom interiors are easy to make stylish and fashionable, using a variety of materials and combining them with different lighting options.

The colors of finishing materials and furniture must be determined in advance, they should not cause negative perception. The interior of a modern bedroom can and should be thought out in such a way that it is psychologically comfortable.

The smaller the area allocated to the bedroom, the lighter the palette used, the use of pastel colors visually expands the space.

Shades such as yellow and cream, blue, peach, olive, light green and mint will help you get a positive charge.

For expressiveness of the interior of a modern bedroom, you can add a few details of a more saturated color to these shades. Excess should not be here, congestion of bright colors does not contribute to a restful sleep.

After choosing the right background shade, you can emphasize the modernity of the bedroom design with the following interior solutions:

  • by combining materials;
  • bright lighting;
  • large multifunctional furniture of simple shapes;
  • accents based on contrast;
  • using glossy wall surfaces;
  • creating relief forms and volumes.

Modern style implies a minimum number of decorative elements and household appliances, since the main task of a proper modern bedroom decor is to create a cozy environment.

The main trends in modern bedroom design

Modern bedrooms have recognizable features and noticeable differences. It became possible to systematize them according to certain criteria in the use of materials, forms and accents.

Modern trends include:

  • Modern classics;
  • Modern;
  • Minimalism;
  • Loft;
  • Scandinavian;
  • Techno;
  • Hi-tech;
  • Eastern;
  • Provence;
  • Country.

Modern Classic

Classic interiors suggest opulence with sophisticated luxury in modern lines. Massive furniture, simple in form, gives fundamentality and significance to the look of the bedroom interior, large patterns on the surface of the walls, textile accessories and soft lighting make the room a little pompous and elegant.

Decorative accessories are selected from patterned textiles or velvet in the form of stylish pillows and similar curtains.

Art Nouveau

Catchy and bold, somewhat aristocratic and sophisticated style suggests smooth, curved lines. They are used in the silhouettes of furniture, repeated in the contours of the stretch ceiling, door and window openings.

Fine wood of the elegantly curved legs and sides of the furniture can be combined with marble inlays and glass surfaces. It is absolutely unacceptable to use "cheap" materials in modernity, it will look tasteless.

Stained-glass windows in doorways are the most recognizable element of Art Nouveau, the light flowing through them will add mystery to the room.

Minimalism

Minimalism is the best choice for decorating a small modern bedroom, but it can also be used in a large space if desired.

The most necessary pieces of furniture, literally a bed and a bedside table, the complete absence of draperies and trinkets organize the sleeping space without the effect of clutter.

Loft

Sometimes you want to combine the incongruous, that's what it is, the loft style! Home comfort and street design elements organically interact with each other, creating the most open space with a well-organized seating area. An ideal room for embodying the loft style would be a spacious and bright bedroom.

Steel lamps and blinds will perfectly complement the interior of the bedroom.

Scandinavian

North European interiors stand out from other styles with a minimum of color. Such an option as white on white (white walls, white ceiling and white floor), or with the addition of warm shades (laminate under light oak, walnut or maple). Textured wood and textured stucco - that's what can create a unique look, allow the interior to be elegant, and contrasting color spots - not boring.

Eco-friendly wood and natural fabrics will promote sound and healthy sleep and pleasant awakening. The photo perfectly shows the combination of wood and soft fabric.

Scandinavian style advocates a minimal amount of decorative items, but allows for a few posters or photographs on the walls.

Techno

The techno style was originally conceived for the appearance of facades and office premises, a bedroom in this style looks not only unusual, but also uncomfortable, it is more difficult to equip it than to apply other styles, and such bedrooms are most often chosen by teenagers or bachelors .

So that the techno-style bedroom does not look like a state institution, it is better to add at least a few details from the loft to it.

Hi-tech

Hi-tech, as a follower of late modernism, includes the introduction of new technologies in interior design. Bedrooms in this style are functional and comfortable. Here, designers actively use modular and multifunctional furniture, which is easy to fit into any, even very unusual, room configuration.

Silver - blue, metallic - gray, blue - this is the color palette that is inherent in high-tech style. Combining them with beige or white will refresh and bring a fresh touch, and one or two paintings with abstraction will balance and make the interior complete.

Oriental

Oriental refers to Japanese and Turkish styles, the former will be completely devoid of frills, this is not just a stylization of the traditions of Japan, but a whole philosophy in red, black and white.

Materials used are wood and bamboo, curtains are always made of silk, porcelain and stone as accents.

The Turkish style is also oriental and involves the use of canopies and light, flowing fabrics.

Provence

It can be considered one of the varieties of rustic style, it always uses pastel shades and natural materials with floral motifs.

Lots of knick-knacks and potted flowers, chintz curtains and light-coloured furniture make the bedroom light and airy, despite its size.

Country

Country is another subspecies of rustic, associated with hunting lodges and American ranches, but it is, first of all, an eco-friendly style, as close as possible to nature. The design concept is the use of natural materials in open structures and finishes. Such bedrooms are most often equipped in country cottages. A fireplace, the facade of which is made of raw stone, can become a wonderful accent here.

Features of the bedroom decoration

The direct purpose of any bedroom is to give you the opportunity to relax, sleep, rejuvenate. Based on these needs, its design should promote relaxation and soothing, so the interior is created balanced and harmonious.

Walls

The main criterion for vertical surfaces is their clear geometry and perfectly aligned walls.

Wallcoverings can be both glossy and velvety, the former will meet the requirement of cleanliness, while the latter will emphasize the purpose of the room for relaxation. Unlike the walls of the living room or kitchen, bright, flashy colors are not used in the bedrooms at all, preference is given to pastel calm shades, soothing and relaxing.

Frescoes and textured finishes are also an up-to-date solution for wall decoration, while transoms and door inserts can decorate stained-glass windows.

Modern design allows for the presence of raw stone and non-plastered walls in different styles, if the designer's idea requires it. Wood trim at the head of the bed is also a significant accent in the space of the room.

Ceiling

For all styles, except for techno and country, the ceiling of the bedroom should be open, without overhanging beams and slats, the only accent here would be a beautiful chandelier.

Modern trends make it possible to make the ceiling two-layered, as an option, with a mirror surface, which is drawn in by a special curtain on rollers - rails, which is controlled by mood at the touch of a button. Multi-layer plasterboard ceilings are a thing of the past, but stucco rosettes for chandeliers and high cornices continue to be successfully used in decoration.

Floor

Wood, cork or laminate - these are the main modern floorings that meet the requirements of cleanliness and comfort. For an additional feeling of comfort and softness, the use of carpet is allowed.

Furniture and lighting

A bed and bedside tables, a wardrobe or chest of drawers, various ottomans should be, first of all, comfortable and practical. If the bedroom is not large, then the closet or wardrobe can be taken out of it, but for convenience, if there is free space, it will still not be superfluous to fit a wardrobe into the interior of the room, built-in furniture will also be an ideal option.

Mirrors will add mystery and visually push the boundaries of the walls, and mirrored cabinet fronts make massive furniture almost invisible. It has become a fashionable trend to use glass bedside tables instead of the usual cabinets.

When installing lighting, you can use:

  • floor lamps;
  • table and bedside lamps;
  • ceiling chandeliers.

Decor and accessories

Excessive focus on small details leads to congestion, does not allow you to enjoy a comfortable rest and does not allow your eyes to relax.

Decorative panels and murals with popular themes of urbanism, abstraction or macro photography can be used as the main accent on the walls, they will also be appropriate on furniture facades, imitation of brick or stone, wood trim is also suitable. This will make it possible to highlight the bedside area.

Curtains in the bedroom can be unusual, bright filament, in the form of a mesh with a large mesh, roller-type curtains with a print matched in the same style as the furniture.

Potted plants or bouquets in vases are a wonderful refreshment.

Walls can be made less boring with clocks, built-in lighting, framed photographs or paintings, modern graphics and lightweight glass or plastic shelves.

Spots of color add variety and compensate for the lack of color, they can easily become blankets and pillows, bedspreads and paintings.

Design options for a small bedroom

Small bedrooms, oddly enough, are more comfortable than large and spacious ones. Most often they are found in apartments with a typical layout. The easiest way to arrange them in a rustic style. Natural materials used in the decoration of such rooms give a feeling of warmth and security.

If rustic styles are not acceptable, high-tech options can be considered. Keeping the balance and not overloading the already cramped space, you can get a cozy and stylish bedroom.

Modern loft means large areas, but modern will be very useful. Modern is universal, furniture in this style is simple and does not clutter up the room, it can even be built-in. Regarding lighting, Art Nouveau has no special requirements, so this style is appropriate for any area, the main thing to remember is that the fewer items in a small bedroom, the visually it looks larger.

For a bedroom with an area of 12 sq.m, all of the above options are suitable, and here, as in the case of 8 sq. m, pompous classics with elaborate baroque elements will be out of place, but it’s already easier to decorate the room under country, Scandinavian style or minimalism.

If there are large windows, it will be enough to “play” with the texture in the design of white walls and a white or light floor, adding furniture of the same color to the composition, and a soothing Scandinavian interior will appear.

Rotatable headboard lights can completely replace overhead lighting in a small bedroom, while built-in wall niches can replace bedside tables.

Combination of textures

Beautiful neoclassical style bedroom. Apartment in residential complex "Fort Kutuzov"

You don't have to browse antique auction catalogs for rare pieces of art or vintage furniture to get creative in your bedroom. You can just come up with a combination of textures.

Fortunately, the modern repair market is so rich that countless combinations can be created from the materials available in its arsenal. Designers combine wood with concrete, glass with stone, fabric with plaster, etc.

Black and white monochrome

Monochrome interior of the daughter's bedroom in the apartment in the Residential Complex "Symbol"

Lack of bright colors allows the eye to rest. The black and white palette in the bedroom soothes and sets you up for relaxation.

Who would have thought that in the 21st century, having gone a long way from black and white to color, we would again admire simple monochrome photos that remind us of cozy scenes from Hollywood films of the 30s. This trend has not bypassed the world of interior design. Black and white monochrome and sepia tones are very popular in bedrooms.

Sepia

Sepia - a natural dye obtained from cuttlefish and squid ink - is used to tint black and white photographs in brown. This processing gives the photo a vintage character and makes the image more resistant to fading. Sepia interiors, which are a variation of monochrome, imitate an old photograph, have become a fashion trend in the design of the bedroom, kitchen, dressing room and bathroom.

Bedroom furniture trends

Time-honored rules still apply when it comes to furniture placement. So, experts recommend choosing bedside tables of the same height as a bed with a mattress. It is not necessary to overload the bedroom with furniture.

Dressing room in the bedroom

A professional designer will always find such a planning solution that will allow you to place a dressing room in the bedroom, whether it is a compact storage line or a full-fledged room. The convenience of a personal dressing room is undeniable, and in the project in the photo, the master bathroom is also adjacent to the bedroom, which allows you to take a shower, bath and get dressed without leaving the private space of the bedroom.

A dressing table-console mounted directly to the wall will save space in the bedroom. The built-in drawer of a small size has quite enough volume for storing accessories and cosmetics, and designers advise to complement the composition with a round illuminated mirror and a soft pouffe. It is easy to make such a table to order in harmony with other pieces of furniture in the bedroom.

The problems of a small bedroom can be easily solved by adding a loggia or built-in furniture. Between the cabinets with mezzanines neatly built in front of the bed, a small console will fit perfectly, which will replace the writing and dressing tables.

Actual bedroom design styles

Style is important for any bedroom design project. In 2021, eclecticism continues to be in fashion. Therefore, a clean style in the bedroom is now a rarity. As a rule, in one interior there are elements of two or three directions.

Scandinavian minimalism

More and more customers prefer Scandinavian minimalism. There are several reasons for this. One of the main concepts of this style is that quality over quantity. It is better to purchase a minimum of high-end furniture than a lot of cheap items. After all, with this approach, the situation will last for many years.

Scandinavian minimalism with its natural shades, peeped from forest groves, sandy beaches and sunsets over the lake, is close to nature. And modern man, squeezed in an industrial vice, now really lacks this.

Modern classic

Bedrooms in modern classic style, solved in light colors, ideal for women. Here you can make a light reference to the historical traditions of decorating ladies' boudoirs, while maintaining relevance in the interior.

Such rooms are not devoid of aristocratic gloss and grace. It is restraint, coupled with grace and lack of arrogance, that makes modern classics one of the most sought-after styles in bedroom design.

Provence style

Provence style is the best companion for rustic summer evenings by the fireplace, nostalgic family dinners and early breakfasts on the veranda. This direction is ideal for timber houses. A Provence-style bedroom will become a little piece of the French province for you.

Modern style

Modern style in bedroom design can be seasoned with elements of loft, eco-style, art deco. This direction is characterized by laconic finish, simplicity of lines, minimalism in decor. Modern bedrooms are often almost monochromatic, favoring neutral beiges and grays, which can be diluted with a couple of bright accents.

Art Deco style

The Art Deco style was created for those whose mornings come at noon, and whose evenings are filled with heated discussions of Picasso's work and Fitzgerald's new script. In everything here, from the brilliantly ringing overflows of crystal and cascading lamps to the rustling of satin and silk and the radiance of lacquered surfaces, one can feel a bohemian flair.

Loft style

The design of a loft-style bedroom is incredibly effective, because incongruous things so often coexist in it: brutality and femininity, factory scale and homeliness, old things with history and cutting-edge technology.

You can recognize a loft bedroom by panoramic windows, brickwork, concrete textures, lamps with cables and cords, and incredibly stylish, often author's, furniture.

Fashionable colors in the interior of the bedroom

In the design of the bedroom in 2021, neutral coffee, milky, soft powdery shades are still in demand. Quite often there are white and gray colors. At the peak of fashion now are golden-orange tones that fill the bedroom space with warmth and soft light. The trend is also blue, some shades of blue, turquoise and green.

Pastel colors

Women's bedroom design in pastel colors

The combination of pastel shades of turquoise and pink has a distinctly feminine character and would be appropriate in a girl's room or in the interior of a ladies' bedroom - such as in this project.

Adult children, who decided to give their mother a gift on March 8, purchased this 55 m² apartment in the Green Park Residential Complex and decorated its interior space in pastel colors of early spring. Fresh turquoise, light as a sea breeze, is the soloist in the interior, and blurry watercolor images and light pink accompany it.

The color of the night sky is blue

Intense blue color has not gone out of fashion for several years. And it is unlikely that in the future it will lose its relevance. The blue color with its rigor and restraint is great for men's bedrooms.

A softer and lighter shade of blue, associated with the evening sky, will look good in the master and hostess bedroom. A designer round panel with lighting at the head will remind you of the full moon and will help you fall asleep easily.

Green and brown

Natural shades of dark greenery and natural wood create a harmonious duet of colors and introduce notes of eco-style into the interior. And putting this idea into practice is very simple! To do this, complete the interior of the bedroom in beige-brown monochrome and add dark green accents to the textile and floral design of the room.

Bedroom finishes

It's no secret that the center of the interior composition in the bedroom is the bed. That is why, when designing a room, decorators, first of all, think about how they will decorate the sleeping area, what materials to use to decorate the wall behind the headboard.

Surprisingly stylish and unexpected effect gives a loft solution for bedroom wall decoration. It will work if the whole apartment is made in the loft style that is fashionable for young people. This bedroom for an adult daughter is located in a duplex apartment that combines charismatic aged brickwork and raw concrete in finishing.

The bedroom's rugged concrete walls are painted in a feminine beige hue, and an abstract graffiti-style mark is applied to the headboard.

Stone-effect decorative panels in the decoration of the bedroom

In 2021, decorative panels that give the interior a unique character are still relevant in the decoration of bedrooms, easy to care for, help in masking cables and wires and contribute to additional sound insulation.

Decorative panels can be three-dimensional, imitate various textures, create a stucco effect. In the bedrooms, preference is given to panels made of environmentally friendly materials, as well as phytoboxes with stabilized plants.

Fairy forest wallpaper

Bedroom interior project from our portfolio

Designer wallpaper for the headboard is interesting because it creates something like additional reality or one more panoramic window in the room. The room is filled with romantic images of a fairytale forest, and indoor plants and a chandelier are perceived as objects that have stepped from a fairy tale into reality.

Basic principles of bedroom lighting

Despite the fact that the bedroom is a rather intimate room, where subdued light often dominates, and the sun's rays are not always welcome, lighting plays an important role here. Sometimes a sleeping room can do with just lamps, without a ceiling chandelier. But most often the lighting in the bedroom is built on three levels: central (ceiling), bedside and additional (illumination of individual decorative elements).

The modern trend in lighting the bedside area is the rejection of volumetric lamps placed on the bedside tables in favor of beautiful paired pendant lamps. This technique visually facilitates the interior and helps to save space on the cabinets for books, clocks and decor items.

Ceiling chandelier

The chandelier must match the interior of the room, harmoniously fit into the chosen style. A ceiling lamp is often the cherry on the cake that completes the interior composition. Therefore, it is important to pay due attention to the choice of a beautiful chandelier.

Light weightless chandeliers in the form of a tutu or white flower petals are especially fashionable today.

Beautiful décor

Bedroom décor ranges from opulent (classic, art deco or modern) to laconic (minimalist, contemporary). In small rooms, sometimes one or two decorations are enough.

Posters

Young man's bedroom design

Posters can be in color or black and white. Often they reflect the hobbies of the owner of the room.

Fireplace

Biofireplace with a panoramic firebox is able to fill the bedroom with warmth and comfort. The modern market allows you to choose a hearth that matches the overall style of the interior and the dimensions of the room.

Natural motifs and rural flavor

The design of a bedroom in a country house in 2021 is characterized by the desire to merge with the surrounding rural landscapes. Hence the predominance of Provencal notes in the interior, the abundance of natural wood, textiles, and floral motifs.
