OVERVIEW

Tempur-Pedic is a mattress and sleep accessory brand that was founded in 1991. One of the first companies to popularize memory foam mattresses for the general public, Tempur-Pedic today offers a handful of all-foam and hybrid models constructed with premium memory foam layers. This review will focus on the TEMPUR-ProAdapt, which Tempur-Pedic claims as the brand’s most popular mattress.

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt is available in two designs. The all-foam model has memory foam comfort and transitional layers, followed by a support core of convoluted high-density polyfoam. The hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt features the same comfort and transitional layers, but its support core contains pocketed coils encased in high-density foam. Both versions of the mattress also include a removable, dual-layer polyester cover.

The all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt mattresses each measure 12 inches thick. Tempur-Pedic offers three firmness options for all-foam models that correspond to different numbers on the 1-10 firmness scale: soft (3), medium (5), and firm (7). The hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt is only available with a medium (5) feel.

In addition to the TEMPUR-ProAdapt, Tempur-Pedic offers the TEMPUR-Adapt and TEMPUR-Probreezeº hybrids, as well as TEMPUR-Cloud, TEMPUR-Adapt, TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt, and TEMPUR-Luxebreezeº all-foam models. All of these models feature memory foam layers, but they differ in terms of feel, thickness, and performance factors such as temperature neutrality and pressure relief.

Does an all-foam or hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt sound like the right mattress for you? We’ll detail its construction and material specs, current prices, performance ratings, and provide an overview of Tempur-Pedic’s customer policies.

Choose Soft if:Choose Medium (All-Foam) if:Choose Medium (Hybrid) if:Choose Firm if:
– you want a mattress that conforms very closely. All versions of the TEMPUR-ProAdapt offer deep contouring, but soft models form a cradle around your body that supports the spine and alleviates pressure. Those who tend to feel most comfortable on a soft mattress include side sleepers and people who weigh less than 130 pounds.– you prefer a balance of contouring and support. The medium all-foam models hug the body but won’t sink too much, making these beds ideal for many side, back, and stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds.– you’re looking for a mattress that offers even levels of conforming and support, as well as a bit of bounciness. The hybrid’s coils are not very responsive and the bed’s plush memory foam layers conform rather closely, but this model has a springier feel than its all-foam counterpart. – you’d rather sleep on a mattress that conforms very little and feels more supportive. These models shouldn’t sink too much anywhere beneath your body, including the torso, waist, and other areas that people normally carry a fair amount of weight. Back and stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds will probably prefer this feel over the other TEMPUR-ProAdapt options.

Watch the video below to see how the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattress performed when put to the test in our lab.

Motion isolation is one category where the TEMPUR-ProAdapt performs very well regardless of its firmness level or support core composition. This is due to the bed’s premium memory foam comfort and transitional layers, which absorb movement from sleepers and prevent most motion from transferring across the surface of the mattress. This can significantly cut down on sleep disruptions for people who tend to wake up when their sleep partner changes positions or gets in and out of bed during the night.

Most all-foam beds with dense memory foam layers excel at motion isolation, so the all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt’s strong rating in this category is not surprising. The hybrid, however, performs much better than most competing models with pocketed coils. This is thanks to the hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt’s medium feel and limited-response coils.

Pressure relief is another major strength of all TEMPUR-ProAdapt mattresses. However, your experience on the mattress will largely depend on your body type and sleep position. The soft feel is best suited to those who feel less pressure when the mattress conforms closely, such as side sleepers and people who weigh less than 130 pounds. The firm feel may be the best option for back and stomach sleepers over 230 pounds, as well as other people who need less conforming and more support.

The medium all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt models should reduce pressure for most sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds, regardless of their sleep position. This mid-level feel ensures noticeable contouring but good overall reinforcement and minimal sagging. The hybrid may feel more supportive to some than the all-foam model.

All-foam Soft, Medium: 2/5, Firm, Hybrid: 3/5

Of the different TEMPUR-ProAdapt models, the hybrid provides the best temperature neutrality. This is primarily due to the bed’s coil system, which circulates air currents throughout the interior to help the mattress maintain a cool and comfortable temperature. That said, you may notice some body heat buildup in the memory foam layers. This is particularly true for people who weigh more than 230 pounds, since they will sink deeper and experience less surface-level airflow.

The all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt will probably absorb and trap more body heat than the hybrid, and sleep warmer as a result. Firm models sink less and thus sleep the coolest, but you may still feel somewhat warm due to excessive body heat absorption in the comfort layer. If you are an exceptionally hot sleeper, we recommend a mattress with more breathable comfort layers.

All-foam Soft: 1/5, All-foam Medium: 2/5, All-foam Firm: 3/5, Hybrid: 3/5

The all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt has weak edge support regardless of firmness level. You’ll probably sink quite a bit when getting on and off the mattress, and chances are you won’t feel very stable lying near the edges – especially if your mattress has a soft feel and/or you weigh more than 230 pounds. Most all-foam models lack edge support because high-density polyfoam does not withstand compression very well. Over time, you may sink more and more when sitting or sleeping along the edges.

Edge support is slightly better for the hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt thanks to its support coils, but you’ll still notice some perimeter sinkage.

All-foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

Many sleepers have an easier time moving across firmer mattresses when getting in and out of bed. These models usually don’t sink as much, so your movements won’t feel as restricted. However, this is not always the case – and the all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt is a notable exception. Even with a firm feel, the mattress sinks in quite a bit. This can result in feelings of fighting with the mattress while you move on the surface. This issue may be compounded if you weigh more than 230 pounds.

The hybrid’s coils add a little more responsiveness to the surface, making the bed easier to move across than the all-foam models. Again, however, the TEMPUR-ProAdapt is softer and less springy than most competing hybrids. This makes it more difficult to move on, particularly for people who weigh more than 230 pounds.

All-foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

The general consensus among couples is that the best mattress for sex feels fairly responsive and sturdy around the edges, but also conforms a bit to provide decent traction. The all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt certainly offers the latter thanks to its deep contouring. However, the mattress responds slowly and sinks rather deeply, which may result in restricted movement. Weak edges also prevent couples from using the bed’s entire surface.

The hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt is a tad more responsive due to its coils and has stronger edge support. This helps couples move around and switch positions more easily, and also allows them to use the whole surface – including the outer areas of the bed. The conforming memory foam also offers good overall traction. That said, couples who prefer springy beds for amorous activities may not find the hybrid suitable, either.

All-foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

Mattresses with memory foam and/or polyfoam odors emit a noticeable smell. These smells are traced to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), tiny particles released when the mattress is unboxed. The all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt’s off-gassing smells are fairly strong at first. These smells will likely dissipate in a matter of days, but the foam may still retain off-gassing odor for longer. We don’t particularly recommend this mattress for people who are sensitive to smells.

The hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt also produces odor at first, but its coils promote airflow to reduce these smells more quickly. Off-gassing for the hybrid should not be a major issue after the mattress has been out of its box for a few days. To speed along the airing-out process, place the mattress in a well-ventilated room for a day or two before sleeping on it.

Side Sleepers:

The soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt offers closer contouring than any other firmness level for the mattress. You’ll feel the memory foam form a deep, pressure-relieving cradle around your body as you sink beneath the surface. For side sleepers weighing 230 pounds or less, these conditions may be ideal. Side sleepers generally prefer plush padding for their hips and shoulders. This helps to align the spine and alleviate pressure points throughout the body.

Side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds, on the other hand, will probably find these TEMPUR-Adapt too soft. The shoulders and hips will sink lower than the rest of the body, which interferes with spinal alignment and often leads to added pressure in these areas, as well as along the spine. Side sleepers in this weight group will likely feel more comfortable on firmer versions of the TEMPUR-ProAdapt.

Back Sleepers:

Back sleepers typically need more firmness and support than side sleepers. Their position promotes spinal alignment, so cushioning for the shoulders and hips is less important than an even sleep surface that won’t sink too much. The soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt conforms very closely, so it is best suited to back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. These individuals will likely feel less pressure thanks to the closely conforming memory foam, but the mattress won’t sag too much beneath their torso and waist where a large amount of the body’s weight is concentrated.

Back sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more will probably find the soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt too soft. The areas between their shoulders and hips will sink a bit deeper than the head, neck, and shoulders, resulting in an uneven surface and the potential for added aches and pains. A firmer, more supportive mattress will probably be better for these back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers:

The soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt is not very suited to any stomach sleepers, regardless of how much they weigh. Softer mattresses are generally problematic for the stomach sleeping position. Most people carry a fair amount of weight in their chest, stomach, and hips, and sleeping face-down can cause these areas to sink excessively while the rest of the body remains upright. As a result, many stomach sleepers develop neck and shoulder pain.

Side Sleepers:

Just as the soft all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt is best suited to side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds, models with medium feels are a good option for side sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds. The contouring memory foam layers offer ample padding for the shoulders and hips, as well as even support for the spine.

As with the soft firmness, side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds will probably find the medium firmness to be lacking in support.

Back Sleepers:

Back sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds typically prefer a mid-level feel. Some contouring is ideal, but the mattress should keep their bodies on a fairly even plane without sinking too deeply in heavier areas. The medium all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt will likely provide enough reinforcement for most back sleepers in this weight group, but some will find the mattress is still a bit too soft for their liking.

Back sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds are much less likely to find the medium all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt supportive enough. We recommend a firmer mattress for these back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers:

In addition to the soft all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt, stomach sleepers may also find the medium-feel models excessively soft. Those who weigh less than 130 pounds will probably feel more comfortable because their bodies won’t sink as deeply into the mattress.

Stomach sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more will, in all likelihood, not feel comfortable on a medium all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt.

Side Sleepers:

Like its all-foam counterpart, the medium hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt is optimal for side sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds. These sleepers should receive enough cushioning for the shoulders and hips without losing support or even alignment, resulting in excellent pressure relief. The coils provide added support, making the hybrid model a suitable choice for some side sleepers over 230 pounds as well.

Back Sleepers:

Although the hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt has a coil system that makes it feel sturdier and more supportive than the all-foam medium models, the mattress is still fairly soft and prone to deep sinkage beneath the sleeper’s heaviest areas. Some back sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds find the hybrid provides a comfortable balance of body-contouring and support.

For back sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds, the general consensus appears to be that the mattress is too soft.

Stomach Sleepers:

Stomach sleepers are fairly mixed about the hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt, but their ratings generally align with the medium all-foam model’s. Those who weigh less than 130 pounds feel most comfortable on the hybrid.

Stomach sleepers weighing more than 130 pounds are much less likely to find the hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt comfortable. Although the coils provide more overall support and stability than a polyfoam base layer, the hybrid is still fairly soft and will sink quite a bit. A stomach sleeper who weighs 130 pounds or more should consider a firmer hybrid with stronger coils instead.

Side Sleepers:

Because the firm all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt provides better overall support and does not sink as much, it is much better suited to side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds. These sleepers should rest on an even plane with good cushioning for their shoulders and hips, resulting in even spinal alignment and less pressure throughout the body.

Side sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or less will probably find these all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt models too firm. The soft and medium TEMPUR-ProAdapts are much better suited to these individuals.

Back Sleepers:

Back sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds should feel quite comfortable on the firm all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt. The foam won’t sink too deeply beneath the torso and waist, but the foam conforms closely enough to support the spine and alleviate pressure. Back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds may prefer these all-foam models or their medium-feel counterparts, depending on their desired contouring level.

Back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds also give favorable ratings to the firm all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt, but this model will feel too firm for some.

Stomach Sleepers:

The firm all-foam model appears to be the most comfortable TEMPUR-ProAdapt option for stomach sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more. Since the foam contours to a minimal extent, the sleeper’s body shouldn’t sag excessively.

Those who weigh less than 130 pounds may also prefer the firm all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt over the other variations of this model. While too firm for some, others will feel more supported and experience less sinkage between the shoulders and hips. That said, stomach sleepers in this weight group also seem to enjoy the medium all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt models.

The all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt is constructed with a comfort layer of adaptive TEMPUR-ES memory foam, a transitional layer of denser TEMPUR memory foam, and a support core of convoluted high-density polyfoam. The two memory foam layers provide close body-contouring and exceptional pressure relief, while the support polyfoam stabilizes the mattress to help keep your body on an even plane.

The hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt has a very similar design, including the same comfort and transitional memory foam layers. The key difference is support core construction. Rather than just high-density polyfoam, the hybrid’s base layer contains pocketed coils encased in high-density foam. The coils add extra responsiveness and give the mattress a light bounce on the surface, but this model is not very springy compared to other hybrids.

Both the all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapts also include a dual-layer SmartClimate cover, which can be removed and cleaned in any household washing machine and dryer. Tempur-Pedic recommends washing the cover in cold water, then either air-drying or machine-drying on a cool setting. The cover is intended to resist heat absorption and help the surface maintain a comfortable temperature, but the hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt sleeps cooler than the all-foam models.

You can select three different feels for your TEMPUR-ProAdapt all-foam mattress: soft (3), medium (5), or firm (7). The hybrid is exclusively sold with a medium (5) feel. You should choose a firmness based on your body type, normal sleep position, and comfort preferences. Check out our detailed ratings breakdown below for an in-depth look at each firmness option for the mattress.

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt costs $2,999 in a queen size regardless of firmness or support core construction. For all sizes, this mattress ranges from $2,499 in a twin or twin long to $4,998 in a split king or split California king.

These price-points are rather high for a memory foam mattress, and also fairly expensive for a hybrid, but they are considered middle-of-the-road for a Tempur-Pedic model. The TEMPUR-ProAdapt costs more than the TEMPUR-Cloud and TEMPUR-Adapt, but is less expensive than the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt, TEMPUR-Probreezeº, and TEMPUR-Luxebreezeº.

Tempur-Pedic does not offer any add-ons or customization features that affect the TEMPUR-ProAdapt’s price-point. White Glove delivery is free for most customers in the contiguous U.S, but people who live in remote locations or Alaska/Hawaii must pay a flat shipping fee of $600.

Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Medium Hybrid mattress review

Tempur-pedic is well established within the mattress world for innovation, though not to be confused with memory foam.

The renowned Tempur material was originally developed by NASA scientists in the 1960s to develop a material to absorb the G-force of astronauts traveling into space.

The result: a viscoelastic material containing billions of heat-sensitive open cells with a "slow spring back foam. " Years later, the material's formula was made public, and the quest to make this material optimized for sleeping began.

This proprietary material was quickly found to offer the perfect combination of support and comfort, with absorption, and motion separation for uninterrupted, deep sleep. Unlike memory foam, the Tempur material is uniquely formulated to respond to your body’s weight, shape, and temperature.

We tested the Tempur-Pedic Pro Adapt Mattress alongside the Tempur-Ergo Smart Base powered by Sleeptracking AI to see how the pair created the ultimate Tempur-Pedic experience: advanced pressure relief, superior contouring, motion isolation, and complimentary sleep technology.

The Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt mattress is available in soft, medium, medium hybrid, and firm variations.  After much back and forth between selecting the medium and the medium hybrid, we decided to go with the responsive nature of a hybrid and was advised that it's a really popular item in the lineup. This mattress is within the "Adapt" range that includes the Adapt, ProAdapt, and LuxeAdapt where each version offers better, best, and ultimate in terms of pressure relief and cooling properties.

Our time with the Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt calls for coveted space on our best mattresses list. Keep reading to see why the Homes & Garden team is so impressed.

What’s the Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt like to sleep on?

Overall comfort and firmness
Is it possible for a mattress to feel both firm and plush at the same time? The material may feel firm upon first contact, but as it responds to your body heat, you'll notice the mattress start to conform to your individual shape, and then spring back once lifted. Tempur-material actually responds to temperature, so if a room is really cold, the mattress can feel less responsive and slightly firmer, and the opposite if your room is warmer.

It's easy to move from side to side, though you will have the feeling of being in the mattress.

Pressure relief and support
The goal of Tempur-Pedic is for you to feel like you're floating, for a zero-gravity weightless feeling. That doesn't mean you won't sink in the mattress because you definitely will as it contours around you.

In our weight test, below, see how the the bed craters where the 50lb. kettlebell sits, sinking about 6 inches. This occurs to help put your body in a neutral position as the foam contours around you. The use of coils, however, will keep you from feeling trapped.

The 50 lb. kettlebell sunk nearly 6 inches, demonstrating its conforming nature

Breathability and cooling
I tested this mattress in the transition from winter to spring, and the second warm weather hits, the bedroom in my home where the Tempur-Pedic was placed tends to trap heat and feel like a heat bubble, even with a ceiling fan running. The smart base also has a temperature sensor that constantly notified me the room was too warm for optimal sleep.

On the nights that the room was at a comfortable temperature,  overheating never became a concern for me in the bed. On those warmer nights, I didn't feel like the mattress contributed to any temperature discomfort, though I may have kicked off the duvet. The hybrid model has been found to be consistently more breathable (thanks to the coils), though we've found that the soft and medium versions can build up heat due to the conforming nature. The stretch-knit cooling cover, crafted to channel heat away from your body and the mattress also contributed to my sleeping fresh and cool through the night. I even added a mattress protector, which did not interrupt the cooling properties, though Tempur-Pedic advises against mattress pads.

Motion transfer
For a lot of our mattress reviews of late, our reviewers have been rolling around a cup of water with a paper towel secured to it to see if movement caused the water to shift around, leaving wetness on the towel. Well, here's an anecdote for you, while attempting this "test" my dog, who has to be a part of everything leaped onto the bed within inches of the cup filled with water, and it was not disturbed at all. A testament to the motion isolation of the ProAdapt. After all, who recalls the Tempur-Pedic commercials of the early 2000s with a filled glass of red wine balanced on the bed as a woman jumped about.

Edge Support
The addition of coils helped reinforce edge support. If you're sitting on the edge, your body does sink, as opposed to collapsing. There was never that feeling of sliding right off when sitting on the sides or the front of the bed.

The Tempur-Pedic is a heavy mattress, luckily they offer in-home delivery because I don't think I'd be able to have managed this mattress myself. For perspective, the queen size can range from 85lb.-117lb. depending on the firmness rating.

The hybrid is composed of an outer cover and three main layers:

The cover easily zips off to wash

The other versions, soft, medium, and firm will have a similar two-layer makeup of various Tempur-foams. For instance, the medium swaps the TEMPUR-ES Comfort Layer for the Original TEMPUR Comfort Layer.

For those in between the medium and medium hybrid,  the medium hybrid will be slightly softer in feel and is helpful for people who have trouble getting out of bed or turning over in bed, but still, seek out the comfort and support of Tempur-Pedic. For instance, the medium swaps the TEMPUR-ES Comfort Layer for the Original TEMPUR Comfort Layer.

Ordering, delivery, and set up

Our experience was directly through Tempur-Pedic's website, but you're also able to find Tempur-Pedic at major mattress stores like Mattress Firm and Macy's, which may have slightly different policies.

Often times Tempur-Pedic runs promotions that will grant you $300 off a range of accessories, or discounts if you opt for a smart base too. They really do go together like milk and honey, to get the most benefit out of your Tempur-Pedic.

Tempur-Pedic offers White Glove Delivery in which they set up your new mattress in your desired room, remove and discard all packaging materials and even dispose of your existing mattress and box spring. The mattress comes off the truck in a large cardboard box and will be ready to be laid on immediately, with no off-gassing period.

Tempur-Pedic warranty and trial period

Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-day trial, but you must sleep on it for a minimum of 30 nights before initiating a return request. A $175 return fee may also apply.

It has a standard 10-year warranty on its products that fully cover manufacturer defects, such as a visible indentation greater than .75 in or a physical flaw in the mattress that causes the TEMPUR® material to split or crack with normal use. It does not cover any increase in softness, comfort preferences, physical abuse or damage, or secondary owners.  Also within the fine print, while Tempur-Pedic will fully replace or repair your mattress, associated transportation costs are on you.

How does the Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt rate online?

When you shop Tempur-Pedic directly, the mattress rating that's most prominent lumps together all Adapt, ProAdapt, and LuxeAdapt models. However, at the bottom of the page, if you are to get into the details of the reviews, you can filter out the other mattresses to read reviews individually. The ProAdapt has over 3,500 reviews, and the medium-hybrid makes up about 700 of them.

The mattress is called reliable, supportive, and dependable. Many noted how their back and hip pain have been eliminated while others noted it helped reduce snoring when paired with an Ergo base.  Main sentiment pondering why they had waited so long. One reviewer also emphasized a statement I could agree with: "the 12" mattress sits very high on the Ergo base and makes getting into bed a small challenge, but the supported sleep is worth it.

On Mattress Firm, the Medium Hybrid model has nearly 3,000 reviews with an average rating of 4.6, with several noting this mattress has given them the best sleep they've ever had, and there was a minimal break-in period.

So yes, the Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt is on the pricey side, there's no denying that, but it also lives up to each of the features it highlights: pressure relief that leaves you feeling like you're floating on air, unparalleled motion isolation so no one else's movement can disturb your sleep, and upgraded tech to keep you cool and comfortable.  There's also a model for every body and every type of sleeper.

Plus those who are unsure about taking the total plunge on foam will love the Medium hybrid, while those looking for a traditional foam feel will not be disappointed at all.

It's also remarkably simple to take care of: it doesn't require flipping or rotating, and the zip-off mattress cover makes it easy to wash (and replace) for routine care.

2021 TEMPUR-PEDIC MATTRESS REVIEW TEMPUR-PROADAPT

you would rather sleep on a mattress that is very flattering and feels more supportive. These models should not go too far below your body, including the torso, waist, and other areas where people usually carry a significant amount of weight. Back and stomach sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds will likely prefer this sensation over other TEMPUR-ProAdapt options.

TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattress Overview

TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam consists of a comfort layer of TEMPUR-ES adaptive memory foam, a transition layer of denser TEMPUR memory foam, and a rolled high-density foam core. Two layers of memory foam provide tight body contouring and exceptional pressure relief, while supportive foam stabilizes the mattress to help keep your body on a level surface.

9The 0007 TEMPUR-Adapt Hybrid has a very similar design, including the same comfort and transition layers of memory foam. The key difference is the design of the support core. The base layer of the hybrid consists not only of high-density foam, but also of pocketed coils encased in high-density foam. The coils add extra responsiveness and give the mattress a slight bounce, but this model is not very resilient compared to other hybrids.

Both TEMPUR-ProAdapts foam and hybrid adapters also include a dual-layer SmartClimate cover that can be removed and cleaned in any household washer and dryer. Tempur-Pedic recommends washing the cover in cold water and then air or machine dry in a cool place. The coating is designed to resist heat absorption and help the surface maintain a comfortable temperature, but the TEMPUR-ProAdapt hybrid sleeps cooler than all-foam models.

You can choose three different feel for your TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam mattress: soft (3), medium (5) or firm (7). The hybrid is sold exclusively with medium (5) feel. Choose a firmness based on your body type, normal sleeping position, and comfort preferences. Check out our detailed rating breakdown below for a detailed look at each mattress firmness option.

All versions of TEMPUR-ProAdapt are 12 inches thick, making them high profile mattresses.

Mattress Prices and Sizes

TEMPUR-ProAdapt costs $2,999 in a queen size shell, regardless of the strength or design of the support core. The cost of this mattress for all sizes varies from 249$9 in a double or twin hull up to $4,998 in a split king or split California king.

These prices are quite high for a memory foam mattress and quite expensive for a hybrid, but they are considered average for a Tempur-Pedic model. TEMPUR-ProAdapt costs more than TEMPUR-Cloud and TEMPUR-Adapt but is cheaper than TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt, TEMPUR-Probreezeº and TEMPUR-Luxebreezeº.

Tempur-Pedic does not offer any add-ons or customization features that affect the price of TEMPUR-ProAdapt. White Glove shipping is free to most US customers, but people who live in remote areas or Alaska/Hawaii must pay a flat $600 shipping fee.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

Motion Isolation is one category in which TEMPUR-ProAdapt performs very well, regardless of its strength level or the composition of the support core. This is due to the comfort of the bed's premium memory foam and transition layers, which absorb the movements of sleepers and prevent most movement from being transmitted across the mattress surface. This can significantly reduce sleep disturbances in people who typically wake up when their sleep partner changes positions or goes to bed and gets up at night.

Most foam beds with dense layers of memory foam are excellent insulating motion, so the high TEMPUR-ProAdapt rating in this category is no surprise. The hybrid, however, performs much better than most competing closed coil models. This is due to the medium sensitivity coils and the limited response of the TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid.

Pressure Relief

Pressure Relief is another important strength of all TEMPUR-ProAdapt mattresses. However, your mattress experience will largely depend on your body type and sleeping position. The soft touch is best for those who feel less pressure when the mattress is snug against the mattress, such as side sleepers and people weighing less than 130 pounds. The feeling of firmness may be the best option for those who sleep on their backs and stomachs weighing over 230 pounds, as well as others who need to adjust less and support more.

Medium-sized TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam and hybrid models should relieve pressure for most sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds, regardless of their sleeping position. This mid-range feel provides noticeable contour, but good overall gain and minimal sag. The hybrid may seem more favorable to some than the foam model.

Temperature control

All foam Soft, Medium: 2/5, Hard, Hybrid: 3/5

Of the various TEMPUR-ProAdapt models, the hybrid provides the best thermal neutrality. This is primarily due to the bed's serpentine system, which circulates airflow throughout the interior, helping the mattress to maintain a cool and comfortable temperature. However, you may notice some body heating in the memory foam layers. This is especially true for people who weigh over 230 pounds as they will dive deeper and experience less airflow at surface level.

Fully foamed TEMPUR-ProAdapt will likely absorb and trap more body heat than a hybrid, resulting in warmer sleep. Branded models sink less and therefore sleep the best, but you can still feel a little warm due to the excessive heat absorption by the body in the comfort layer. If you are very hot, we recommend a mattress with more breathable comfort layers.

Edge Support

Solid foam soft: 1/5, solid foam medium: 2/5, solid foam hard: 3/5, hybrid: 3/5

TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam has poor edge support regardless of strength level. You will probably sink quite a bit getting on and off the mattress, and you will likely not feel very stable lying around the edges, especially if your mattress is soft to the touch and/or you weigh over 230 pounds. Most foam models lack edge support because the high-density foam doesn't hold up to compression very well. Over time, you may sink more and more when you sit or sleep on the edges.

The edge support of the TEMPUR-ProAdapt hybrid is a little better thanks to the support coils, but you will still notice some sagging around the perimeter.

Ease of movement

Foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

Many sleepers find it easier to move on firmer mattresses when they get in and out of bed. These models usually don't sink as much, so your movements won't be as restricted. However, this is not always the case, and TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam is a notable exception. Even with a firm feel, the mattress sinks a little. This can cause a feeling of struggle with the mattress as you move across the surface. This problem can get worse if you weigh more than 230 pounds.

Hybrid coils add a little more surface responsiveness, making the bed easier to move than full foam models. However, again, TEMPUR-ProAdapt is softer and less bouncy than most competing hybrids. This makes further movement difficult, especially for people who weigh over 230 pounds.

Sex

Foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

By all accounts, the best mattress for sex seems to be quite responsive and firm around the edges, but also adjusts a bit to provide decent grip. The TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam certainly offers the latter thanks to its deep shape. However, the mattress is slow to respond and sinks quite deep, which can lead to limited movement. Weak edges also prevent couples from using the entire surface of the bed.

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt Hybrid is slightly more responsive due to its coils and stronger edge support. This helps couples move and change positions more easily, and allows them to use the entire surface, including the outer areas of the bed. The matching memory foam also ensures good traction. However, couples who prefer springy beds for lovemaking may not find the hybrid suitable either.

Gas outlet

Foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

Mattresses with a memory foam and/or foam odor emit a noticeable odor. These odors are associated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), tiny particles released when a mattress is unpacked. The TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam does not outgas well at first. These odors will most likely disappear within a few days, but the foam may linger for longer. We do not particularly recommend this mattress for people who are sensitive to smells.

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt Hybrid also produces odor at first, but its coils promote air circulation to get rid of these odors faster. Gassing for a hybrid shouldn't be a major issue after the mattress has been taken out of the box for a few days. To speed up the airing process, place your mattress in a well-ventilated room for a day or two before sleeping on it.

Sleep style and body weight

TEMPUR-ProAdapt - Soft

Side sleepers: The soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt mattress provides a more precise contour than any other mattress firmness. As you dive underwater, you'll feel the memory foam form a deep, pressure-relieving cradle around your body. These conditions may be ideal for side sleeper passengers weighing no more than 230 pounds. Side sleepers generally prefer padded hips and shoulders. It helps align the spine and reduce pressure points throughout the body.

my 600 lb life penny zeger

On the other hand, those over 230 pounds will probably find these TEMPUR-Adapts too soft. The shoulders and hips droop lower than the rest of the body, which interferes with spinal alignment and often results in additional pressure in these areas as well as along the spine. Side sleepers in this weight group will likely feel more comfortable with the more durable TEMPUR-ProAdapt versions.

Rear sleepers: Back sleepers generally require more firmness and support than side sleepers. Their position promotes spinal alignment, so shoulder and hip cushioning is less important than a flat sleeping surface that won't sink too much. The soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt fits very well, so it's best for back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. These people will likely feel less pressure thanks to the tightly fitting memory foam, but the mattress won't sag too much under their torso and waist where most of their body weight is concentrated.

Backs weighing 130 pounds or more will probably find the soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt too soft. The areas between their shoulders and hips will sink a little deeper than their head, neck, and shoulders, causing the surface to be uneven, which can lead to aches and pains. These people who sleep on their backs would probably be better off with a firmer mattress with more support.

Stomach Sleeper: Soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt is not very suitable for stomach sleepers, regardless of their weight. Softer mattresses tend to be problematic for prone sleeping positions. Most people carry significant weight in their chest, abdomen, and hips, and sleeping face down can cause these areas to droop excessively while the rest of the body remains upright. As a result, many stomach sleepers develop neck and shoulder pain.

TEMPUR-ProAdapt - Medium (Full Foam)

Side Sleepers: Just like TEMPUR-ProAdapt soft foam is best for those who sleep on their side, which weighs less than 130 pounds, models with medium feel are a good option for those who sleep on their side, which weighs up to 230 pounds. Contoured layers of memory foam provide ample padding for your shoulders and hips, and even support your spine.

As with soft stiffness, side sleepers that weigh over 230 pounds will likely find that medium stiffness lacks support.

Back sleepers: Back sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds generally prefer a mid-range feel. Some contour is ideal, but the mattress should keep their bodies on a fairly flat plane without sinking too deep in heavier areas. The medium-sized TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam will likely provide enough reinforcement for most sleepers in this weight group, but some will find the mattress too soft for their tastes.

Back sleepers weighing over 230 lbs are much less likely to find the TEMPUR-ProAdapt all-foam midsection supportive enough. We recommend a firmer mattress for these back sleepers.

Stomach Sleeper: In addition to the soft TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam, belly sleepers may also find medium-strength models too soft. Those who weigh less than 130 pounds will probably feel more comfortable because their bodies don't sink as deeply into the mattress.

Stomach sleepers weighing 130 pounds or more are likely to feel uncomfortable on the medium power TEMPUR-ProAdapt.

9000 Scroll L - R for more details.

TEMPUR-ProAdapt - Medium (Hybrid)

Side Sleepers: Like its full foam counterpart, the TEMPUR-ProAdapt Medium Hybrid is optimal for side sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds. These sleepers should have enough cushioning for the shoulders and hips without losing support or even alignment, resulting in excellent pressure relief. The spools provide additional support, making the hybrid model a suitable choice for some side sleepers over 230 pounds.

Back sleepers: While the TEMPUR-ProAdapt hybrid has a serpentine system that makes it firmer and more supportive than the midsize foam models, the mattress is still quite soft and prone to deep sagging under the heaviest areas sleeping. Some back buffs who weigh up to 230 pounds find that the hybrid provides a comfortable balance of body contours and support.

For back sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds, the general consensus seems to be that the mattress is too soft.

Stomach Sleeper: Gastric sleepers are somewhat mixed relative to the hybrid TEMPUR-ProAdapt, but their rating is broadly on par with the average foam model. Those who weigh less than 130 pounds feel most comfortable in a hybrid.

Gastric sleepers weighing over 130 pounds will rarely find the TEMPUR-ProAdapt hybrid comfortable. Although the coils provide more overall support and stability than the foam base layer, the hybrid is still quite soft and sags a bit. A stomach sleeper who weighs 130 pounds or more should instead consider a more robust hybrid with stronger coils.

TEMPUR-ProAdapt - Firm

Side sleepers: Because TEMPUR-ProAdapt's strong foam provides better overall support and doesn't sink as much, it's a much better fit for those with side sleepers that weigh over 230 pounds. These sleepers should lie flat with good cushioning for the shoulders and hips, resulting in even spinal alignment and less pressure across the body.

Side sleepers that weigh 130 pounds or less will likely find these TEMPUR-ProAdapt foam models too strong. TEMPUR-Pro soft and medium adapters are much better suited for these people.

Back sleepers: Back sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds should feel fairly comfortable with TEMPUR-ProAdapt firm foam. The foam does not penetrate too deeply under the torso and waist, but the foam fits snugly around it to support the spine and relieve pressure. Those with backs between 130 and 230 pounds may prefer these foam models or their medium-sensitivity counterparts, depending on the level of contouring desired.

Back sleepers that weigh less than 130 pounds also score positively on TEMPUR-ProAdapt hard foam, but some will find this model too strong.

Stomach Sleeper:
Made from durable foam, the TEMPUR-ProAdapt is the most comfortable option for stomach sleepers weighing 130 pounds or more. Since the foam has a minimal shape, the sleeper's body should not sag much.

Those under 130 pounds may also choose TEMPUR-ProAdapt firm foam over other options in this model. While it's too stiff for some, others will feel more supported and experience less sagging between their shoulders and hips. However, stomach sleepers in this weight group also seem to like the TEMPUR-ProAdapt medium full foam and hybrid models.

2021 TEMPUR-PEDIC MATTRESS REVIEW TEMPUR-ADAPT

You like the dense contour of memory foam, but also like a little springiness on the surface. Compared to other competing hybrids, TEMPUR-Adapt is not particularly responsive. However, you will notice a bit more bounce on these models than on the foam versions. The hybrid coils also provide stronger edge support and better breathability.

Overview of TEMPUR-Adapt mattresses

TEMPUR-Adapt foam consists of two layers of memory foam. The comfort layer is made up of TEMPUR-ES foam, a proprietary material known for its adaptive and corrective properties. The TEMPUR-ES memory foam will help you hug your body and will likely sink a bit under the surface, especially if you're 130 pounds or more.

Transition layer is made of TEMPUR memory foam, another proprietary material. The TEMPUR foam, which is much denser, keeps you from sinking too deep into the mattress. Beneath the transition layer lies a high-density foam core. The support core is designed to stabilize the entire mattress and reinforce the transition foam.

what are all the kardashian pictures

Hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt features identical TEMPUR-ES memory foam comfort layer and TEMPUR memory foam transition layer. As a result, both beds look like average. In the hybrid's load-bearing core, you'll find pocketed coils encased in high-density foam. The coils give the surface extra flexibility, but the mattress still feels less firm than most competing hybrids.

Lids for both versions of TEMPUR-Adapt are also made from the same polyester blend. Unlike other Tempur-Pedic models, the TEMPUR-Adapt is not removable. If stains appear, Tempur-Pedic recommends wiping the cover fabric with water and a mild detergent.

Mattress Prices and Sizes

TEMPUR-Adapt Foam and Hybrid are $2,199 in two sizes. For all sizes, these mattresses range from $1,699 in a double or twin unit to $339$8 in Split King or Split California King.

These prices are very expensive for the foam model and quite high for the hybrid, but they are inexpensive compared to other Tempur-Pedic models. TEMPUR-Adapt is more expensive than TEMPUR-Cloud but costs less than TEMPUR-ProAdapt, TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt, TEMPUR-Probreezeº and TEMPUR-Luxebreezeº.

TEMPUR-Adapt has no add-ons or customization options that increase its price. White Glove shipping is free to most customers in the continental US, but those who live in remote areas or reside in Alaska or Hawaii must pay a flat $600 shipping fee.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

Foam: 5/5, Hybrid: 4/5

Motion Isolation is the main strength of TEMPUR-Adapt foam. Like other memory foam mattresses that provide a comfortable feel, this mattress absorbs sleeper motion exceptionally well and virtually eliminates surface motion transfer. This can be an important benefit for people who typically wake up when their sleep partner changes positions or gets up and out of bed.

Hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt provides above average movement isolation. Many hybrids absorb motion quite well, but their coil systems promote responsiveness on the surface, so sleepers still feel some transmission from their partner's movements. TEMPUR-Adapt is not as responsive in comparison, resulting in far fewer passes.

Couples and co-sleepers should experience very few sleep disturbances in any TEMPUR-Adapt version, but foam models have a slight advantage in this category.

Depressurization

Depressurization is an area where both TEMPUR-Adapt models work at the same level. This is due to their similar comfort and transition layers. Adaptive TEMPUR-ES memory foam supports the body, supports the spine and relieves pressure on the shoulders, hips and other sensitive areas.

Meanwhile, the denser transition layer of TEMPUR memory foam prevents the sleeper from sinking too deep into the mattress and, as a result, additional pressure.

However, some sleepers may still sink too much due to the feel of the medium firmness of the bed. These include people who sleep on their stomachs who weigh at least 130 pounds, as well as those who sleep on their backs who weigh more than 230 pounds. For these people, we recommend a firmer mattress with more support.

Temperature control

Foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

Memory foam mattresses retain heat well. TEMPUR-Adapt foam is no exception. Since the material adheres to and holds your body, it will absorb heat from your body and may feel uncomfortably warm on the surface. The feel of a medium-sized bed can exacerbate the problem. As you sink into the mattress, the airflow across the surface decreases.

The TEMPUR-Adapt Hybrid sleeps a little cooler thanks to a coil system that promotes strong airflow, helping the mattress maintain a comfortable temperature. However, the mattress tends to absorb and retain more heat than the average hybrid. Again, this is due to the dense layers of memory foam and deep body contouring.

If you tend to sleep hot, TEMPUR-Adapt may not be for you. A more durable foam or hybrid model can provide better cooling and temperature control.

Edge support

Foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

Edge support is not a strong point of any TEMPUR-Adapt model, but the hybrid performs slightly better in this category. The pocketed coils provide decent overall support for the mattress, and the high-density foam covering the coils adds extra reinforcement around the perimeter. However, you'll likely notice a fair amount of sinking in and out of the mattress, and you may not feel as safe when sleeping near the edges. Much of this has to do with the hybrid's average feel. Stronger hybrids tend to provide better edge support.

You will notice more immersion when putting on and taking off the TEMPUR-Adapt foam. High-density foam is a strong material on its own, but it does not withstand compression as well as coils. If you're over 230 pounds, you'll likely notice more sinking and feel less stable in your sleep near the edges.

Ease of movement

Styrofoam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

how many children does ti and tiny have together

Softer and less sensitive mattresses are more difficult to move than firmer models. Plush materials tend to sink more under your body, and the lack of push can make getting in and out of bed difficult. The hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt has some response from the coil system, but its respective layers of memory foam will sag a lot. It can also make it difficult to move if you change positions.

The TEMPUR-Adapt foam is even harder to move, especially for those over 230 pounds. While the deep contour of this model's memory foam layers certainly offer some benefits for sleepers, it will sink a bit and restrict movement for most people.

Sex

Foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

While every couple has different preferences, many find firm mattresses with firm edge support to be the best for sex. This provides enough responsiveness to allow easy movement and use of the entire surface of the bed. The hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt offers some of that responsiveness, but the memory foam may be too good for some pairs.

TEMPUR-Adapt foam is much less responsive than its hybrid counterpart. While the contoured layers of foam provide decent grip, making sex more enjoyable for some, the lack of resilience can make it difficult to move and make repositioning difficult. Weak support at the edges can also keep fumes in the center of the mattress.

On the plus side, both TEMPUR-Adapt models are incredibly quiet under load. This makes any mattress an inconspicuous choice for sex.

Venting

Foam: 2/5, Hybrid: 3/5

Mattresses with memory foam and/or foam layers typically release particles known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when taken out of their boxes. VOCs are relatively harmless, but they carry a chemical odor that some find unpleasant. Memory foam, in particular, is known for its stronger, outgassing odor. The new TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid produces a fair amount of odor, but this odor should dissipate fairly quickly. This is largely due to the serpentine system, which provides air circulation, helping to rid the mattress of unpleasant odors.

Expect stronger and more persistent gaseous odors from TEMPUR-Adapt foam. Without a serpentine system to provide airflow, this mattress will take longer to fully vent the gas. If you are sensitive to odors, we recommend the TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid over a full-foam model or a mattress that contains no foam at all.

Sleep style and body weight

TEMPUR-Adapt (All-Foam)

Side sleepers: Side sleepers generally prefer softer mattresses with enough padding for the shoulders and hips. This provides even support for their bodies, which in turn aligns the spine and relieves pressure in sensitive areas. For this reason, TEMPUR-Adapt foam is very well suited for side sleepers, especially if they weigh 230 pounds or less. Their bodies won't sink too deep into the mattress, but the foam is contoured tight enough to reduce pressure points along the spine.

Side sleepers that weigh over 230 pounds should also find the all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt comfortable, but for some this model will be too soft. These side sleepers often require a medium to firm surface that will support their body while also cushioning pressure-sensitive areas. Due to its average feel, the TEMPUR-Adapt foam is likely to sag under the hips and shoulders, which can interfere with spinal alignment.

Back sleepers: Compared to side sleepers, back sleepers usually need less contour and more support - in other words, to make the mattress stronger. This is because the supine position promotes spinal alignment without the aid of a mattress. The surface should lie lightly against the body, while maintaining a flat plane with minimal sag around the torso and waist, where weight is usually concentrated. The mid-feel TEMPUR-Adapt foam is ideal for many back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds because it fits snugly against the body but shouldn't sink too much.

A back that weighs 130 pounds or more probably won't feel as comfortable with TEMPUR-Adapt foam. Excessive sagging between the shoulders and hips will be a major problem for most. This causes the body to drop down the middle while the head and legs remain elevated. Over time, this lack of support can lead to severe aches and pains.

Sleeping Stomach: Sleeping stomachs usually require increased midsection support and softer head and leg support. Without this extra reinforcement, these sleepers tend to sag excessively as the weight of their belly and hips pulls them into the mattress. Pain in the neck and shoulders is a common result. With that in mind, the medium feel and significant depth of TEMPUR-Adapt foam is not particularly suitable for stomach sleepers.

Some stomach sleepers who weigh 230 pounds or less may feel comfortable on this mattress, although it will likely sink too deep. We do not recommend TEMPUR-Adapt foam for stomach sleepers weighing over 230 pounds as the support it provides is likely to be insufficient for these people.

COMBAT-Adapt (Hybrid)

Side sleepers: TEMPUR full foam and hybrid adapters are very similar in many ways, including being suitable for use as side sleepers. Side sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds will likely feel very comfortable on a hybrid model. The combination of dense memory foam contouring and the flexibility of a light coil keeps their bodies on a level plane as their shoulders and hips sink into the cushioning foam. We expect most side sleepers in this weight range to have even spinal alignment and significant pressure relief.

Side sleepers that weigh over 230 pounds should also find the TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid reasonably supportive, though there will be more dips between the shoulders and hips. For some, this can disrupt the alignment of the spine and create additional pressure. Side sleepers that find the TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid too soft should choose a medium or hard hybrid instead.

Rear sleepers: The TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid model provides slightly more support than the full foam model. Back sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds should feel reasonably comfortable on this mattress, thanks to the good balance of body contours and repulsion from the hidden coils. These sleepers can sink a little around the torso and waist, but probably not enough to reduce the comfort of the mattress.

On the other hand, back sleepers that weigh more than 230 pounds are likely to feel less comfortable due to excessive sagging. Despite the coil system, this hybrid feels softer, fits more closely to the body and sinks deeper than many competing models with a similar pocket coil design. Instead of the TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid, we recommend a stronger hybrid with stronger sleeper coils in this weight group.

Sleeping stomach: The TEMPUR-Adapt Hybrid is also better for stomach sleepers than the foam model, but only marginally. This is largely due to the increased responsiveness of the coil system. Belly sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds should receive sufficient support for their chest, waist, and hips so that they can lie on a flat surface without sinking too deep. Even so, it may seem to some that the environment of the hybrid is too mild.

Although the coils add a bit of extra strength, the TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid isn't very suitable for belly sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more. Deep sagging between the shoulders and hips is likely to be a problem for many of these people. For stomach sleepers weighing over 230 pounds, we highly recommend mattresses with zonal support layers, meaning the areas under the chest, belly and waist are stiffer than under the head, neck and legs. This provides comfortable support for lighter areas and more reinforcement for areas where people tend to carry the most weight.
