Natural granite stone tiles

Stone tiles are a timeless, elegant and very practical material. The stone floor is durable, easy to clean and resistant to moisture.

Natural stone tiles can be used in the kitchen, hallway or bathroom. Stone tiles for the living room also look good.

Natural stone is a more expensive material than ceramic tiles, but its price is comparable to large-format, polished porcelain stoneware. A stone floor looks very impressive for many years.

If over time, under the influence of use, its surface becomes dull or rubbed off, it can be repeatedly restored. This procedure requires the use of professional equipment and chemicals.

The color and pattern of the floor depends on the type of stone and the dimensions of the tiles. The material is characterized by a wide variety of structures and shades, even within the same breed. In addition, the stone "ages" beautifully - its characteristic structure deteriorates over time.

Not every natural stone can be used on the floor. The first requirement is low abrasion. It determines the degree to which the appearance of a tile changes with use. It is marked by class, from 0 to 5 - stone tiles with abrasion class 0 are not suitable for the floor.

The next parameter to pay attention to is the hygroscopicity of the tile. It depends on the porosity of the raw material, the degree of polishing and saturation of the tiles with special impregnation. The lower the value, the less the tile is susceptible to dirt and discoloration.

Stone slabs of marble, granite, onyx, travertine, hard sandstone and basalt are used for flooring. Types of stone differ in properties, for example:

• marble slabs are often used in private homes, mainly because of the interesting color scheme. Marble requires systematic impregnation, its surface can be matted rather quickly and is prone to damage. Marble is recommended for rooms with little traffic and is not suitable for outdoor use.

• granite tiles do not require impregnation, resistant to mechanical and chemical damage. Granite flooring is easy to keep clean, so it excels in damp areas such as bathrooms;

• Sandstone floor must be made from hard sandstone. Soft sandstone is vulnerable and hygroscopic, its porous surface making it difficult to keep clean;

• popular travertine has a porous structure and requires systematic impregnation.

Not only does the type of stone affect the color and pattern of the tile, but also the size and method of processing. The surface can be ground or polished. Stone tiles are thicker than ceramic tiles, typically 1 to 2 cm thick.

If the floor is expected to lie for many years and its surface will be restored several times, thicker tiles should be chosen. The actual tile size may differ from the nominal size indicated on the package.

When choosing a floor covering, it is necessary to consider the functional features of the room in which it will be located. Some polished slabs become slippery when exposed to moisture, so they should not be used, for example, in a hallway or in an open shower.

Tile selection should be made at the design stage. The price of designing a house is significantly lower than the price of construction and the cost of building materials. Therefore, proper design will help save money and not make mistakes that cannot be corrected.

Facade and paving stone tiles: natural material or porcelain stoneware?

What makes porcelain stoneware tiles so unique and especially suitable for cladding outdoor spaces?

Porcelain stoneware is an environmentally friendly material. Porcelain tile is made from natural materials using sustainable resources. Replacing old floor or wall tiles does not have a significant impact on the environment, also due to the ease of disposal.

Porcelain stoneware is a durable material. When installed correctly, no other floor tile can provide as much comfort and ease of maintenance as porcelain stoneware. Porcelain stoneware floors can be easily cleaned with commonly used products without the need for special products.

Dirt , Liquids and Stains can be easily washed off or rubbed off, restoring a clean and flawless appearance to the tile. This feature of the tile is especially important on streets with foot traffic or in areas with high humidity, such as near the pool.
