'At Engel & Völkers Atlanta, we have a track record of closing deals, establishing meaningful relationships with our clients and providing clients with the best experience possible. This sale reaffirms that,' says Christa Huffstickler, Licence Partner of Engel & Völkers Atlanta.

It features seven bedrooms, a 70,000-gallon infinity pool, a ballroom, flood-lit tennis courts, private helipad, state-of-the-art gym, spa, theatre, indoor pool and housekeeper’s suite.

An elevator transports residents between floors, and an impressive number of fountains decorate the outdoor courtyard areas.

The interior of the home features polished marble floors, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and double-height ceilings. Crystal chandeliers adorn many of the living spaces. One of the more unique rooms is a library with a spiral staircase that leads to both a wine cellar and a parlour with leather walls and an intricate carved stone fireplace.

Tyler Perry originally purchased the property for $9 million US dollars back in 2007, and poured millions into completely renovating the estate.

He eventually sold it to televangelist David Turner for $17.5 million US dollars in 2016. This was said to be noted as the highest price for a home sale in Atlanta at the time.

Multi-talented actor, director, producer and screenwriter Tyler Perry has built an impressive career in Hollywood. But the media mogul didn’t stop there. Worth a whopping $1 billion (£850m), Perry has invested his earnings wisely into property and land with a story to tell, deliberately reclaiming places with ties to slavery and racial injustice. Owning plentiful real estate across LA and Atlanta, and even a private island in the Bahamas, Tyler Perry has bought and sold multiple homes throughout his property journey. Alluding to his deliberate real estate decisions, the Hollywood star said in a 2019 BET awards speech, “while you’re fighting for a seat at the table, I’ll be down in Atlanta building my own.” True to his word, Perry is currently building a 35,000-square-foot mega-mansion just outside of Atlanta.

Tyler Perry’s childhood

@tylerperry / Instagram

While the media mogul is a huge success today, with over 30 movies and eight TV shows under his belt, Tyler Perry had a less than happy upbringing. Perry reportedly changed his birth name from Emmitt Perry Jr as he was named after a father who was abusive and, Perry would later find out, not his real dad.

Where is Tyler Perry from?

Perry was born in New Orleans on the 13 September, 1969 in this three-bedroom home on Baronne Street. Surviving a traumatic childhood, rife with abuse at the hands of his guardians despite his mother's attempts to keep him safe, Perry according to Page Six, reportedly attempted to end his life as a teen.

Posting a photo of himself as a five-year-old to Instagram on his 50th birthday, Perry wrote "'Thank you' to the little boy that I was. Thank you for all you went through to allow me to be the man I am today. I love you, and I am so thankful to God that you survived. Even when I didn’t want to, your pureness and innocence ushered me here. .. We made it."

Interior photos of Perry’s childhood home show the fully renovated house, remodelled and expanded by the last owner, who according to Realtor, bought the abode from the Perry family in 2013 for just under $150,000 (£127k), according to public records. Alongside a reconfigured hallway and all-new kitchen with marble countertops, the home now even boasts solar panelling on the roof.

A swing still hangs from the front porch, overlooking the front garden. Speaking with the New York Times in 2004, Perry described how he would often peer out of the front window of his house in New Orleans at the mansions two blocks north, while two blocks south were the projects, the territory of gangs, drugs and crime. Being poised between the mansions and poverty "became my metaphor for life," he said.

As a young adult, Perry began writing to help process his trauma. In 1999, the self-made billionaire created the character Madea, an eccentric and strict grandmother who he played himself. After writing and starring in a number of plays featuring Madea, Perry wrote and produced his first movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which grossed $50 million (£42m) at the box office and launched the polymath’s lucrative career in Hollywood.

One of Perry’s first Atlanta-based real estate investments was a parcel of land in Fairborn, Georgia. In April 2001, the up-and-coming Hollywood star stumped up $62,661 (£52k) for the land and proceeded to build a 17,252-square-foot mansion he would later call Avec Chateau.

Sitting across 11 acres, Perry’s chateau also boasts a private pool/jacuzzi, outdoor fireplace, ponds, fountains, waterfalls, mature trees, manicured gardens and even an illuminated tennis court. Speaking to Ebony magazine, he declared the property “testament to the rewards of faith". Perry would go on to list the property for $3.69 million (£3m) in 2009.

In 2004 the Madea mastermind snapped up 22 acres of land in Beverley Ridge Estates for $4.3 million (£3.57m). With his taste for property development blossoming, Perry spent years building an eight-bedroom Tuscan-style villa, with a whopping 24,000-square-foot of living space. Valued at an estimated $18 million (£14.9m) according to Architectural Digest, the spacious abode even hosted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in early 2020.

For the star’s birthday in 2014, Perry was the host with the most at his Tuscan-style villa, inviting a plethora of A-listers to help him celebrate his 45th. Stevie Wonder was one hallowed guest, playing Tyler’s piano for a delighted audience. “I had to pinch myself,” Perry wrote in the accompanying caption, sharing a photo he took from above the double height reception room.

In March 2020, after their last official day as working royals, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to Los Angeles. While looking for a more permanent home, the couple stayed in Perry’s Tuscan-style villa, having met through their mutual friend Oprah. Here Meghan reads to baby Archie in one room of the expansive compound.

Fans were quick to gasp with envy at Perry’s luxurious bathroom, complete with grand columns and sunken round bathtub. When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stayed at the abode in 2020 they were not so willing to share their intimate spaces, and according to The Sun reportedly installed privacy screens around the mansion after realising hikers could see into the home when the popular hiking route reopened.

In 2005, Perry reportedly paid $9 million (£7.6m) for a properrty on the Chattahoochee River that reportedly once belonged to segregationist Moreton Rolleston, proprietor of a motel which refused to serve African-Americans. Tearing down the building, Perry spent three years building this palatial pad atop its impressive 17 acreage.

The same year Perry purchased his Atlanta palace, the star also bought up land in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with the intention of building a holiday log cabin. Sharing beautiful shots of sunsets from his deck, Perry has also snapped some intimidating wildlife in his backyard, including this moose that he filmed for Instagram in 2021, as well as a grizzly bear that trespassed in 2019, which he fondly recalls in an interview with Ellen.

Tyler Perry certainly knows how to treat himself. Captured here by Caribbean Journal, in 2009 the entertainment entrepreneur splashed out on 25-acre White Bay Cay private island and an adjacent seven-acre island in the Bahamas to celebrate his 40th birthday. According to the Wall Street Journal, the larger island cost $7 million (£5.9m) which he developed with a Balinese-style villa with neighbouring bungalows, built from scratch.

In 2015, Perry flexed his building abilities again and bought up a 330-acre lot in Atlanta, Georgia on which to build Tyler Perry Studios. Situated on the grounds of Fort McPherson, a former military base that served the Confederate Army, and one of the poorest black neighbourhoods in Atlanta, Perry wanted to make a statement and inspire young black kids. Here he poses outside his impressive near-exact replica of the White House, in a snap he shared on Facebook.

Accepting his 2019 BET Award, Perry declared, “The studio was once a Confederate Army base, which means that there were Confederate soldiers on that base, plotting and planning on how to keep 3. 9 million Negroes enslaved. Now that land is owned by one Negro.” Black Panther was one of the first films shot at the studios, which also include an airport terminal, a strip mall, two baseball fields, a golf course and a residential neighbourhood.

The prolific director has most recently been working on constructing another mega-mansion in Atlanta, having bought 1,200 acres of land. TMZ reported in 2018 that building work was underway on the Gilded Age-style manse. Conveniently for the hardworking actor and producer, the 1,200-acre estate captured here by Atlanta Drone Girl, resides a mere 32 minutes from his 330-acre film studio, according to PriceyPads.com. Tour of Tyler Perry's 330-acre studio built on a former Confederate military base

Popular

Tyler Perry has been a pioneering African American in Hollywood since he began his career back in the 90s. Now he owns one of the largest production studios in the country.

Tyler Perry has tried almost everything in the entertainment industry. He is an actor, writer, director and producer, better known for his vociferous and God-fearing character Madej.

At 50, Perry is behind 22 films, 20 plays and eight television shows. He has also helped launch the careers of Hollywood giants like Kerry Washington and is always on the lookout for new talent to develop.

But that's not all. Perry also owns one of the largest production studios in the country, Tyler Perry Studio, located in Atlanta. Here is a tour of the 330 acre property.

PERFECT JUSTICE

Perry purchased the studio property in 2015. He spent $30 million on it, but never revealed how much he invested in transforming it into the state of the art complex it is today, though he said it was "a lot".

Among the new sets and buildings, Perry is proud to have 40 houses that were built in the 1800s.

It was originally the old Fort McPherson, a Confederate army base, and the irony of a black man owning the space didn't go unnoticed by Perry.

"Think of poetic justice in this," he said. Gayle King said during a studio talk on CBS 'This Morning' and continued:

“The Confederate army is fighting to keep blacks in America on this earth. And now this very land belongs to me.”

SOUNDS AND THE WHITE HOUSE

The property has 12 soundstages, of which are named after black artists who in one way or another inspired Perry and placed a metaphorical stone on the successful man he is today.

Among the winners of the contest are Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Halle Berry, Denzel Washington, Whoopi Goldberg and others.

It was important to Perry to honor these artists because, as he said on The Real, he always saw pictures of all the great legends in some L.A. studios, but not a single person of color.

Apart from the twelve soundstages, one of the most imposing buildings in the studios is the 80 percent scale replica of the White House that Perry used to film his new series The Oval.

Built in 12 weeks, the structure has some of the original features, including an oval office.

APARTMENT AND FOURTH HOUSE

There is also a reserve known as Maxine Wille, named after Perrigde's late mother, the director filming some of his TV shows. There are entire neighborhoods that fans can recognize in an instant, as well as Madea's house.

In the future, visitors who come to the studio will have the opportunity to enter Madea's house, where all the furniture is like in the films.

There's also a farmhouse that was built between trees to look like it's been there for years, and one of Perry's inventive ideas: a four-sided mansion that has a different look on each side.

"I tried to make the best use of space and space," Perry said, explaining that the house could be rented from all sides and used for four different shows.

HISTORICAL COUNTY

Among the new sets and buildings, Pear Cider is proud to have 40 houses that were built in the 1800s and are part of the National Register of Historic Places.

President Roosevelt stayed there when he visited, and the generals and officers also used them when they were on campus.

There is also an old church and an old theatre, which Perry says he takes pride in maintaining in their original state.

DREAM BUILDING

pear cider named the main building Dream because it was a dream for him to have his own studio, and also as a way to inspire not only the people who work there every day, but also those who follow his career.

There are a dozen different sets in the building, including a hospital alley with a fake elevator, a hotel corridor, brick stone, a loft from a Havana and No restaurant, a restaurant, and an Irish pub, among others.

Outside there is also a bank, a trailer park, a county jail, a lake house and a commercial plane. And yet Perry still has 200 acres of green space in which he plans to build a six-lane highway, and possibly a European urban style set.

“You know something about winding cobbled streets? We could use that for Paris,” he told Architectural Digest.

TYLER'S FAMILY AND THE NEXT DREAM

Tyler Perry's son Aman and his longtime girlfriend Gelila Bekele are what help the director wind down despite his busy production and recording schedule for his TV show.

For Perry, becoming a father to Aman also helps him heal his inner child, who has suffered from abuse since a young age.

"I look at him and I look at myself at this age," Perry said 'This morning.' "And I wonder how anyone can be cruel and unkind to that level of pure innocence and beauty and love."

Part of his growing up experience is what inspired Perry to use his studio for more than just making movies and TV shows.

Essentially he wants to build a facility where abused women, children and youth at risk of LGBTQ+ can be rehabilitated.

He wants to help people get trained in the industry to become self-sufficient, as well as for them to have a place to live in the process.

“There are all these wonderful things that allow them to return to society. And then pay again. That's what I hope to do soon,” he said. came to the conclusion,

Tyler Perry - biography, personal life, photo, news, "Young Dylan Tyler Perry", series 2022

Biography

American actor Tyler Perry also became famous as a director, producer and screenwriter. Back in 2011, Forbes ranked him among the richest personalities in the entertainment industry, and then his fortune was estimated at $ 130 million. And in 2020, Time magazine included Perry in the hundred most influential people on the planet.

Childhood and youth

Perry was born on September 13, 1969 in New Orleans. His parents are Willie Maxine, née Campbell, and Emmitt Perry, a carpenter by trade. The boy was named after his father, but at the age of 16 he took the name Tyler in order to break ties with his parent as much as possible. Their relationship did not develop smoothly: the boy endured moralizing and beatings, with which his father “beat the nonsense out of him”.

Tyler Perry in the movie "Gone Girl"

Mother took Perry with her brothers and sisters to church every Sunday, where he found comfort and spiritual family. However, despair often visited his soul, which almost led the guy to suicide. Later, he admitted that as a child he experienced harassment by an adult woman, in addition to this, he also endured harassment from men.

Tyler did not finish school, but he always felt the potential to be creative. For example, he wrote letters to himself that had the effect of psychotherapy, and later designed them into the play "I know that I was changed." Perry worked odd jobs and at that time lived in a car. He wrote his first play at the age of 18 and then did not realize that he would earn a lot of money with his work.

In 1990, the guy moved to Atlanta and, using his own savings, staged the play I Know That I Have Been Changed at the city theater. The performance spoke of Christian virtues, human dignity, and raised the problems of social ill-being and family cruelty. At first, the production was coolly received, and Tyler suffered a commercial failure. However, he did not despair and finalized the musical, so after 8 years the restart brought him success and a large number of devoted fans among the African-American audience.

Movies

Perry's talent as a dramatist had made a fortune by the time he made his debut film Diary of a Mad Black Woman. This comedy melodrama was released in 2005, and Tyler acted as an actor, producer and scriptwriter in it. At that time, he had already founded his own studio. The picture received mixed and mostly negative reviews from critics, while the box office showed the opposite: in its first weekend, the tape grossed over $21 million at the box office.

The story of old Madea began with this film, which Perry himself embodied on the screen, dressed in a woman's dress. Later, he repeatedly returned to his favorite character in the films Madea in Prison, My Own Mistakes, Madea's Big Happy Family, Madea's Christmas, and Madea's Funeral. A series of films about an energetic funny grandmother collected a solid box office in the United States, finding a complacent response from African American audiences.

Tyler Perry as Madea (frame from the film "Mistakes of My Own")

Perry's next project was the sitcom The Payne House, which premiered in the summer of 2006. The series turned out to be so popular with the audience that it stayed on the air for 8 seasons, and in five of them Tyler was the director.

In 2009, Perry played for the first time in a project not of his own "production". It was the role of the commandant of the Starfleet Academy, Admiral Richard Barnett in the movie "Star Trek".

Another notable feature in Tyler's acting filmography was David Fincher's thriller Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. There, Perry acted as a lawyer, breaking the stereotypes of the viewer, who was used to seeing him in comedic roles.

In 2016, Tyler played the villain Baxter Stockman in the film franchise Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. In addition, he starred in Adam McKay's Oscar-winning film The Power, where Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Sam Rockwell became his partners on the set.

All this time, Perry did not leave his own projects: he staged plays, made films. In 2020, he produced and directed the series Ruthless, which centers on a woman named Ruth. She kidnaps her little daughter to join a dark and criminal religious cult. At the same time, the comedy series Young Dylan Tyler Perry was released, dedicated to the biography of a young rebel who moves to live in a new family and turns everything upside down there.

Personal life

Despite his success in Hollywood, Perry does not leave his native land and lives in Atlanta, where he manages film and television studios. He owns over 1,000 acres of land in Georgia, and his home is valued at tens of millions of dollars. In addition, the celebrity acquired a manor in Mulholland Estates, California, and also bought vacation property in Wyoming and the Bahamas.

Tyler Perry as Baxter Stockman in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

Tyler is a staunch Christian, but that doesn't make him an exemplary family man. In December 2014, Perry's friend, Ethiopian Gelila Bekele, gave birth to a son, Aman, but did not receive a marriage proposal from her beloved man. He defiantly remained a bachelor, although they began dating back in 2007. In 2020, the couple broke up, remaining close friends and parents of a common child. The actor commented on the changes in his personal life by posting a photo on Instagram, where he told subscribers that he was single, but was going to be the best father.

Tyler Perry now

Now Tyler continues to actively act in films and create his own projects, including the series Girlfriends, The Haves and the Have Nots and The Oval Office. In 2021, he also appeared in the political comedy Don't Look Up, where he played along with a scattering of stars - Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep.
