How it's made

Not too big, but not too small, at 41 cm wide, 39 cm deep and 27 cm high, it easily finds its place on the kitchen worktop or, in our case, it can be quite easily removed and take it out only when necessary. It looks like a classic grill with a flip-top lid. Inside there is a saucepan, which is a container with a ceramic coating, which must always be kept inserted into the appliance. Then comes the second frying pan, perforated, and the grill grate.

On the right, in a special space obtained in the outer casing, there is a thermosum, that is, a thermometer that can be inserted inside the meat to check the cooking. A brush with fairly stiff bristles makes it easy to clean the grill after cooking.

The part just below the lid, inside, is a serpentine that will radiate heat for cooking, protected by an easily removable and washable splash guard. The power cable with a protective plug is inserted from the back and is rather short.

To better understand how it works, we will tell you how it was in our tests. We started right away with full confidence, buying a good piece of meat quite often. We inserted the probe into the cut, following the instructions, that is, trying to ensure that the head of the probe ends in the center of the meat at the top. The probe has two points about 2 cm apart where it measures the temperature. After connecting the probe to the grill with a headphone jack-like cable, we loaded the appropriate arrows to select the type of meat, in our case beef. Ninja Foodi automatically detects when you plug in the probe and then allows you to access cooking programs. After choosing the meat, we chose the type of cooking: you will have dozens of levels, from rare to well cooked, to choose from. The temperature reached depends on the type of cooking. In our case, we chose a degree of roast between medium and good. Pressing the start button starts preheating, which lasts about ten minutes. Then an audible warning will tell us to place the meat on the grill. Then we open the lid, put the meat, make sure that the probe wire does not touch the grill, and close the lid. About halfway through cooking, and in fact even a little later, our attention will be drawn by another beep, and an instruction to turn the meat will appear on the screen. A few more minutes and the target temperature will be reached. At this point, the grill will inform us that the cooking is over and we can remove the dish. In fact it will also suggest that we let it rest for a few minutes. We followed the advice and then we were ready to cut the piece of meat down the middle. To our pleasant surprise, the meat was cooked perfectly, from medium to well done, just like we wanted.

We tried again with chicken breast. In this case, we are not asked about the method of preparation, since the chicken must be well cooked. The procedure was identical, we inserted the probe, preheated and followed the instructions. Once again everything went well, the chicken was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside but still juicy.

We repeated the procedure, but with steaks, therefore without using a probe, since it requires a slightly thick incision to insert it. In this case, the instruction recommends the temperature and time of use. Trusted and the result is more than satisfied. We couldn't resist trying French fries straight out of the bag. Also in this case, we followed the instructions in the recipe book and the result was more than satisfactory, just like other deep fryers that only have this feature.
