How many homes does oprah winfrey own

Photos of Her Many Mansions

The Queen of TV. The giver of gifts. The icon the entire world has been influenced by. Oprah! Though her childhood was laced with poverty and abuse, Lady O has beaten the odds and become one of the most famous, influential, and wealthiest women in the universe. Oprah has homes from coast to coast and her real estate portfolio is always growing. There isn’t just one Oprah house. Oprah Winfrey house portfolio is only expanding!

Where Is Oprah Winfrey’s House?

So, how many houses does Oprah own? Again, there isn’t just one Oprah Winfrey house. In fact, the major superstar has houses all over the United States, at least 8 of them.

Where does Oprah have homes? She has multiple houses located in Montecito, California, and another in Maui, Hawaii for when she wishes to escape the fast-paced Californian lifestyle. Her main home, however, is one of the two Montecito mansions where she spends the majority of her time.

And recently she bought a 43-acre estate on Orcas Island in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. If you’re interested in seeing that property check out this post about the house Oprah bought on Orcas Island.

Where does Oprah live now? Exactly where does Oprah live in Montecito?

Oprah resides in a 20,424 square foot mansion that sits on a 40-acre estate in Montecito, CA. Known as the Promised Land, the mansion is secluded in the hills and despite its vast size, it is practically impossible to get very close to.

The Promised Land has 6-bedrooms, 14-bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen (obviously), 10 fireplaces (for the cold California months….?), two home theatres (one inside and one outside of course), a large guesthouse with a private pool, a wine cellar, and tennis courts. The property is also home to lots of gardens as well as avocado and fruit orchards.

The rear entrance, which as we can tell, is the most often used.

And why is it named The Promised Land? During a recorded tour of her main house, Oprah filled us in on the name by saying “The Promised Land, because Dr. King said he would not get to the promised land but one day we might. And so that’s why I called it that… because I think it’s a fulfillment of the promise that Dr. King spoke of.” Wise words from the media mogul herself.

How much is Oprah Winfrey house worth? Oprah paid a whopping $50 million for the place in 2001. Oprah’s house is now worth over $100 million thanks to the insane renovations, landscaping, and of course the celebrity factor.

What does Oprah Winfrey house look like? Her main house in Montecito is nothing short of a mansion. It has a Neo-Georgian architecture design. It has a long narrow drive with red brick on either side leading up to the main entrance and is completely surrounded by beautiful trees and other lush green landscape. It overlooks stunning views of both the ocean and mountains.

When she bid farewell to her 25-year streak on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah got to The Promised Land to settle in and realized she had created a museum feel instead of a home.

“When you have friends over, everybody tends to end up in the kitchen. I like being there, so I’m getting rid of the fireplace and the pizza oven to gain some space. Everything else is staying put.”

“This is a very grand space, but I don’t want to live in a grand space anymore. I want dinners to reflect my heart and spirit. I want people to feel free to ask for seconds!”

To fix it, she redesigned the entire home to be more livable and held a “yard sale” where the public could come bid on items to support her girls school in Africa.

How big is Oprah Winfrey’s house? Oprah Winfrey’s house sits on over 40-acres of land. The house is over 20,000 square feet!

Fun Fact! Oprah’s Emmy Award Winning show Super Soul Sunday on the Oprah Winfrey Network is filmed under the massive oak trees located on this very property.

She’s Expanding in Montecito

In early 2016, Oprah dropped $28. 85 million on a neighboring property known as Seamair Farm Estate. The expansion boasts four bedrooms, five bathrooms, an outdoor pool, tennis court, home cinema, and a lake. The Farm Estate home even has all the equipment and stables fit for an equestrian center.

All that didn’t matter to Oprah, though. As far as we can tell, Oprah’s goal is to expand her fortress. We here at Velvet Ropes took a trip up to the property and scored these exclusive photos… She’s demolishing everything!

All that didn’t matter to Oprah, though. As far as we can tell, Oprah’s goal is to expand her fortress. We here at Velvet Ropes took a trip up to the property and scored these exclusive photos… She’s demolishing everything!

Then, in October 2019, Oprah expanded again when she bought actor Jeff Bridges’ estate, which, you guessed it, neighbors her 2016 addition. She paid Bridges $6.85 million for the four-acre property.

Here’s a map to help break it all down:

Where does Oprah live in Santa Barbara?

Many people mistake Montecito for Santa Barbara. Oprah’s house is not in Santa Barbara, but it is very close! Montecito is, shall we say, the uber-rich section of the Santa Barbara area.

Orcas Island, WA

In May, Velvet Ropes broke the story that Oprah had purchased a sprawling waterfront estate on Washington State’s Orcas Island for $8.28 million. Named The Madroneagle Estate, this super secluded compound has 4-bedrooms, 3-full bathrooms, 2-half bathrooms, and boasts 7,303 square feet of luxurious living space.

In addition to the main house, there is also a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom guest house on the property. The home features lots of artisan touches as well as natural lighting and gorgeous views of the ocean. We have an entire blog post about this home, and all the details that we uncovered, here: Oprah House Orcas Island.

Telluride, CO

Oprah spent all her years filming The Oprah Winfrey Show residing in Chicago. Having sold her Chicago Water Tower Place Complex in 2015 for $4.625 million, she then went on to purchase a $14 million ski chalet just a few months later.

Oprah’s House in Telluride, Colorado

Covering almost 9,000 square feet, the chalet is located in the mountain village of Telluride, Colorado and provides Oprah with a snowy getaway as a break from her always-on-the-go lifestyle. Ahhhhh, the life. The super high-tech home boasts 5-bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, and a chef’s kitchen.

Noteworthy features include a game room equipped with a pool table and wet bar, an indoor hot tub that can fit up to 7 people at once, and guest house. Lots of large windows look out onto the gorgeous gardens and trees surrounding the property. There’s even a glass bridge off of the living room that leads to Oprah’s master suite!

As well as her Colorado home, Oprah also owns 2 mansions in Montecito, California, another in Maui, Hawaii, one in Alpine, New Jersey, an estate in Florida, and several others in areas including Chicago and Nashville. Who knew one person needed so many homes?!

Oprah Winfrey House

Maui, Hawaii

Where does Oprah live on Maui? Oprah’s house Maui, which she reaches by her private jet, of course, covers an incredible 163 acres. Her beautiful Maui mansion is set in the idyllic Hana area.

Oprah’s Hawaii home is a 21st-century Farmhouse and has more of a personal touch than her other homes, says her decorator. When Oprah first purchased the Hawaii house it had a small porch, a kitchen that needed a large amount of work, and low ceilings that made the home feel cramped.

The new and improved abode features multiple french doors that open onto the porch and balcony, providing numerous opportunities to step outside and enjoy a gorgeous view of the ocean and surrounding property.

After what was meant to be a small project turned into a full-blown renovation, the Maui home incorporates loads of personal and real touches that truly represent Oprah’s personality. With large mansions dotted around the rest of the U.S, the ranch in Maui gives Oprah a smaller, more relaxed and cozy place to reside. But don’t be fooled – it’s still a mansion by all accounts.

What Are Oprah’s Hobbies?

So, what does Oprah Winfrey like to do? Well aside from her career as a media genius and TV personality, Oprah also enjoys spending time doing philanthropy work, she loves to read, and she really loves spending time with her dogs. Oprah is also an avid gardener. Her celebrity friends are now accustomed to receiving random baskets of fresh produce right from her garden.

What Car Does Oprah Drive?

Oprah is the proud owner of a Volkswagen Beetle worth just over $25,000. But let’s get real…she has many others! Aside from her fleet of Cadillac Escalades fit with drivers who are at her every whim, Oprah recently bought a new Tesla.

Oh, and Tyler Perry gave her a pimped out Bentley a few years ago.

In addition to her ground transport, what would Oprah be without a private jet?! Her Global Express XRS has a spacious all-leather interior and can fit between 8 to 14 passengers. How do we get signed up?!

How Much Does Oprah Make?

In 2016 Oprah’s media empire raked in an unbelievable annual income of $315 million. Woah.

How Much Is Oprah Worth?

Ok, prepare yourself for this one. No like really, you may need to take a seat if you’re not already. As of 2017, Oprah Winfrey’s net worth was a humongous $3.1 BILLION. O.M.G. Yeah, that’s Billion. With a B. Between her lucrative days on her talk show, her brand ambassadorship for Weight Watchers, her acting roles, and her very own network, The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), which has skyrocketed in popularity, Oprah’s net worth is on the rise. Let’s just say, Oprah ain’t strugglin’.

Oprah Winfrey’s Homes: A Look Inside Her Extensive Real Estate Portfolio

Oprah Winfrey’s reach truly knows no bounds. As of 2021, the mogul has amassed a net worth of $2.5 billion, according to Forbes, and has built an empire of philanthropy and media production and distribution. Given her many commitments, it makes sense that Winfrey has made homes for herself in numerous cities throughout the United States. Though Montecito, California, has been her main base for more than 20 years, Winfrey has also owned homes in Illinois, Florida, Hawaii, Colorado, and Washington state. She’s also owned, or currently owns, properties in Tennessee and Indiana, though she primarily purchased those residences for family and friends. Here, we’ve rounded up a handful of Winfrey’s real estate holdings, which are an impressive sampling of her eclectic tastes and representation of her various life chapters.

1985

One of Winfrey’s first big real estate ventures was her purchase of a condo in Chicago’s prominent Water Tower Place, located along the city’s Magnificent Mile. The original purchase price was never publicly revealed, but in subsequent years, she snapped up three other units all surrounding the original one, for $1.0625 million, $1.5 million, and $1 million, respectively, according to the Chicago Tribune. Combined, the four units measured 9,625 square feet and featured four bedrooms and five full and two half bathrooms. Winfrey ultimately listed the enormous duplex for $7.75 million in January 2014, and finally sold it for $4.625 million in late 2015.

Around the same time she was purchasing the last of the four adjacent condos in Water Tower Place, Winfrey also dropped $100,000 on a three-bedroom apartment at the Four Seasons Chicago. The renowned luxury hotel is situated just a few blocks from Lake Michigan and not too far from the Near West Side, where Harpo Studios, Winfrey’s multimedia production company, was located at the time. Winfrey ultimately sold this property for $1.275 million in 2015, the same year she closed the studios for good and relocated to the West Coast.

1995

This year, Winfrey made a much-buzzed-about purchase on exclusive Fisher Island, a 216-acre man-made island situated just off the coast of Miami. She paid an undisclosed amount for a four-bedroom, six-bathroom penthouse condo, which measured 6,170 square feet and boasted 20-foot ceilings, and an expansive oceanfront terrace. The unit was located in the high-end Villa Del Mare condominiums, where amenities included a billiards room, a biking trail, multiple swimming pools, and a spa. The residence itself was airy and light-filled, with a wood-burning oven in the kitchen and a spacious main suite with his-and-hers en-suite bathrooms and dressing rooms. Winfrey ended up selling the unit for a then unheard of $6.5 million in 2001 to the former chairman of Campbell’s Soup.

2001

Winfrey began to set down roots for what is now known as the Promised Land, her sprawling home in Montecito, in 2001. The media mogul paid around $50 million for the original 42-acre spread, which included a 23,000-square-foot Georgian-style house, a 6,000-square-foot redwood guesthouse, and an outdoor area perfect for a pool, tennis court, and multiple patios. In the decades following, Winfrey continued to snap up nearby properties to expand her holdings in Montecito; she still calls this sprawling mansion her main home base.

Oprah Winfrey owns real estate valued at over $200 million

29.05.2020 22:47

Oprah Winfrey has bought nearly $90 million worth of real estate on 67 acres in posh and expensive Montecito, California over the past few years, so it's safe to say that her vast holdings are worth over $200 million.

And why not?

She is the queen of all media and one of the most famous and recognizable women in the world. Last fall, she added to her estate (called the Promised Land) a Spanish renaissance home adjacent to 67 acres of land she already owned. The former Bridges property is adjacent to Seamair Farm. She bought Bridges' house for $6.85 million. nine0005

Altogether, this piece of land and the buildings on it are worth north of $100 million, and Winfrey owns seven homes from California to Washington state.

Houses Oprah no longer owns

From 1985 to 2015, Oprah's primary residence was a 9,625-square-foot house in Chicago, which she sold in 2015 for $4. 625 million. That same year, she also sold a colonial-style home in the suburb of Elmwood Park for $375,000 and a 10,000-square-foot semi-detached house north of downtown Chicago for $4.6 million. nine0005

In 2012, she sold her Gold Coast co-op for $2.8 million. She also previously owned an Atlanta penthouse, which she sold in 2008 for $1.8 million.

Oprah bought her first property on Maui in 2002. She has spent as much as $60 million over the years to harvest 160+ acres in Maui. She spent $32 million on just one deal to buy property next door. In total, Oprah owns hundreds (potentially over 1,000) acres of real estate in the United States with a minimum value of $200 million. nine0005

Montecito Home

Winfrey bought this 23,000 square foot home for a whopping $50 million in 2001. It is located approximately 6 miles from downtown Santa Barbara. Having redesigned the interior to suit his sophisticated taste, Winfrey says the house is simply gorgeous both inside and out.

"I know my house is impressive," Winfrey wrote in her magazine in 2013. "I mean, almost every guest I've ever invited to dinner told me about it when he was sitting on edge of a luxurious sofa, trying not to leave fingerprints on anything. I had a stately home, and I put my heart and soul into perfecting it." The massive house also has a large pond with a fountain in the backyard. nine0005

Killer Whale Home

Winfrey's latest purchase is a 41-acre estate located on Orcas Island in northwestern Washington State. The $8.275 million home has eight bedrooms and several luxurious living rooms. It sits on a 7,303-square-foot lot, and even has 3,000 feet of private shore, according to Velvet Ropes.

Seamair Farm Estate

In 2016, Oprah purchased a 23-acre horse farm for nearly $29 million at auction. “It's about three-quarters of a mile from the beach and in the mountains, in the heart of Montecito, where many celebrities live,” said Marty Rogers of Sage Auctions, who put the property up for auction. The property is located between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean and was not on the market for more than 30 years until it was purchased by Winfrey. nine0005

Montecito House No. 2

Two houses in Montecito are clearly not suitable for Oprah Winfrey. That's why she bought Jeff Bridges' former home, which sits right between her $50 million Montecito home and her Seamair farmhouse, in November 2019.

Oprah bought the house from Bridges for $6.85 million. It sits on a 4-acre lot that contains a stuccoed main house, a boarding house, a billiards house, and an indoor equestrian complex with stables and a tackle room. nine0005

In between the three adjacent houses in Montecito now owned by Winfrey, she has created a sprawling 70-acre estate with 13 separate buildings in the gorgeous community of Santa Barbara.

Telluride House

In 2014, Winfrey purchased this 8,700-square-foot utterly scenic lot in Telluride, Colorado. She paid $14 million for the mansion and it was fully furnished. According to the Los Angeles Times, the house was once owned by African art collector Bob Wall. The five bedroom, six bathroom home sits on 3.25 mountainside acres. nine0005

“The home blends perfectly with the mountain environment, with remarkably clean, modern lines and simply stunning landscaping,” said T. D. Smith, real estate agent for Telluride Real Estate Corp.

Maui Home

Oprah purchased 163 acres of property on the slopes of Mount Haleakala. While it's not clear how much she spent on the property, the property next door was listed for sale in 2016 for $32 million.

How Zuckerberg, Gates and Oprah Winfrey live: 5 smartest houses of billionaires

A "smart butler" with the voice of Morgan Freeman helps the family of the head of Facebook, "green air conditioners" work for Elon Musk, and David Yang, the founder of ABBYY, is building a house where artificial intelligence will study free will. Our selection of the most amazing and innovative home ideas from Forbes 9 members0072

In the US, about 20% of households use smart home technologies, in Russia - only 3%. However, judging by the mansions of Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey and other media personalities, automation of everything and everyone has already become a new luxury item. Now the main thing is not the origin of the marble for the kitchen countertop and not the number of bedrooms, but how smart your home will turn out to be.

"Digital Butler" Mark Zuckerberg nine0009

Virtual assistants like Siri or Alexa can turn on heaters and dim lights. However, none of them satisfied Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. So he decided to develop his own digital assistant that controls all the electronics in his California home. Zuckerberg named him Jarvis, after Iron Man's butler in the Marvel Universe.

Jarvis speaks in the voice of actor Morgan Freeman. He knows well the tastes of Zuckerberg and other household members: when he is asked to put on music, he chooses compositions depending on whose voice he is speaking to - Mark or his wife Priscilla. You can talk to the assistant both verbally and through the Facebook messenger. nine0005

According to Zuckerberg, creating an automated home was easier than he thought. It took about 100 hours to develop. One of the challenges was the toaster: “I learned that it is quite difficult to find a toaster that can dip bread into itself in advance to automatically start toasting it when the power is turned on. I ended up finding an old toaster from the 1950s and fitting it with a switch,” he wrote in a post on his Facebook page.

David Yan Free Robot

ABBYY Group Chairman David Yang is building a house that will be controlled by an artificial intelligence called Morpheus. It was developed on the basis of unsupervised machine learning and, unlike conventional voice assistants, has rather unpredictable behavior.

Morpheus is given the freedom of choice: if he is asked to turn on the coffee machine, open the door or do any other housework, he will be able to decide for himself whether he should do it or not. Over time, the robot will have a bank account, and he will be able to buy things on Amazon - for himself or for other people. nine0005

In addition to household tasks, Morpheus will be busy studying philosophical works on the freedom of consciousness and will. He will be able to record his thoughts in endless essays in 60 languages. “It will be a social experiment: will he become free or not,” Yang said in a recent interview with Forbes Life.

In the fall of 2018, on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, CEO Elon Musk hinted that engineers are also working on air conditioning systems that will connect to the car and track the owner's movement. The technology has already been tested on Tesla vehicles connected via a mobile app, Musk said. nine0005 jeffwilcox Wikipedia

Spying on guests in the house of Bill Gates

The Microsoft founder lives at Xanadu 2.0 Estate, where visitors must pin a pin-shaped sensor to their clothing at the entrance. This allows them to always remain in sight: in order to determine the location of a particular guest, the owner or guard will only need to look at the smartphone display.

Finished reading here

Close attention has its advantages. The tracking sensor interacts with various systems in the house, which are triggered when a person approaches. For example, guests can tell in advance about their musical preferences, and then the selected melody will sound from the speakers, accompanying them as they move from room to room. The route for each of the guests is compiled individually, and only certain doors remain open. nine0005

The security measures in Xanadu 2.0 seem over the top if you don't know the size of the residence: the 6,000 square meter house has 7 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms, 10 of which have bathtubs. For solemn events, a separate hall is allocated, which can simultaneously accommodate up to 200 people.

Let's add that Gates keeps an eye not only on the guests, but also on his favorite tree - maple, growing next to the driveway to the house. The condition of the soil is controlled by electronics, which include automatic watering when there is a lack of moisture in the soil. nine0005 Joshua F. Johnson Zillow.com

Warm Asphalt Oprah Winfrey

TV presenter Oprah Winfrey's Telluride mansion, purchased in 2015 for $14 million, is equipped with several smart systems: they keep the temperature in the bathroom, help monitor the garden and control the watering of flowers via iPad, from anywhere in the world.

The property is located in the state of Colorado, known for its harsh winters. Therefore, a lot of attention is paid to the weather conditions here: data on temperature and precipitation are transmitted from their own weather station and then give a signal to the rest of the systems in the house.
