Pet fur has the habit of clinging like glue, especially to upholstered chairs and velvety couch cushions. You could use one of those removal rollers, but the easiest solution is a fur-guzzling vacuum. In addition to sucking up any shedding, a machine should tidy up (without getting tangled with hair) and work fast, especially if you have a skittish pet who hides whenever it’s on. To find the best vacuums for pet owners, we asked trainers, veterinarians, and notable animal people for their favorites. You’ll also see a few recommendations our own Strategist staffers swear by to keep their spaces fur free (or as close to that as humanly possible).

Best overall | Best less expensive | Best for carpets and hardwood floorsBest (less expensive) pet vacuum for carpets and hardwood floors | Best cordless | Best for heavy shedders | Best robot | Best (less expensive) robot | Best handheld

Cordless versus corded: A cordless vacuum relies on a battery rather than an outlet, while one with a cord can run for longer, which is convenient for when your carpet is in need of a deep clean. You should consider the size of your space when deciding between the two. (Overall, our experts favored corded models.) Depending on the type of vacuum, we mentioned the length of the cord or the running time.

Weight: You probably don’t want to lug a heavy-duty vacuum from room to room, so it’s important to know how much it weighs. Cordless models tend to come in at less than ten pounds, while corded versions hover around the 15- to 20-pound mark.

Extras: Here, we focused on the bells and whistles, mentioning features such as LED lights to see under-the-couch dust bunnies, detachable Swiffer-like brushes, or high-powered modes for quick cleanups below.

Additionally, we included the suction strength whenever it was available. This measurement will be listed as AW, or air watts, and Jon Gibbons, a cleaning consultant for the site Smart Vacuums, recommends choosing a model that lists at least 200AW in its specifications when shopping for a pet-specific vacuum. (Since the majority of the vacuums below don’t detail this, we didn’t think it was fair to include it as its own criteria point.)

Price: As always, affordability is one of our top priorities. Each of our picks is denoted as $, $$, or $$$ for under $200, under $400, and over $400, respectively.

Dyson Ball Animal 2 Upright Vacuum

$500

30-foot cord | 17.5 pounds | High-reach wand, stair-specific tool, 227AW | $$$

Taking the Best in Show ribbon, Dyson earned high marks for its pet-hair performance and powerful motor. (It’s “undupeable,” in the words of former Strategist senior editor Margaret Rhodes.) The Ball Animal 2 is one of Dyson’s largest and heaviest models, at nearly ten pounds more than other Dysons, but it still offers industrial-strength cleaning without the size of industrial equipment. In fact, it’s a go-to for clean-ups at the George, a pet-friendly boutique hotel owned by Bobbi Brown. Compared with a cordless, this “very powerful” vacuum lasts longer, which is more practical for hotel staffers’ deeper cleans. When former Strategist senior writer Karen Iorio Adelson tested it in her home, she emphasized how easily it sucked up tufts of cat fur and “unearthed layers of dust and crumbs that had been buried in my thick living-room rug for months — if not longer.

Part of what provides that suction is Dyson’s “tangle-free turbine tool,” an attachment designed to remove pet hair without twisting it into knots. And though this vacuum is corded, Payton Cosell Turner, the founder of the home-design firm Flat Vernacular and owner of three rescue cats, is another fan, as the vacuum spruces up area rugs with “absolute dexterity.” That cord also means there’s no limit on run time, so it’ll last until you’re finished cleaning. It is an investment, but Laura Colagrande, a co-founder of the dog-treat company Chippin, assures us that the one she has owned for years has persevered (if it doesn’t, Dyson has a five-year warranty on corded machines like this one).

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus Upright Vacuum

$247

$247

30-foot cord | 14.2 pounds | Optional Febreze filter, LED lighted crevice tool | $$

Like our best overall pick, the Bissell Turbo Plus is specifically designed for pet owners and comes with a tangle-free brush roll. But at just under $250, it’s less than half the price of Ball Animal 2. The Turbo Plus comes highly recommended by Hadley Raysor, the founder of the Dandy Dogwalker. As the owner of a ten-pound Chihuahua and a 12-pound tabby cat, Raysor likes that the range of attachments — including a crevice tool and extension wand — can handle cleaning clusters of dander that are sometimes hidden. Former Strategist writer Chloe Anello used the Bissell on the second floor of her parents’ home, which is completely carpeted. Even though her family vacuumed weekly, she and her family were disgusted by how much dirt and fur came up, Anello says. She even spotted fur from previous pets inside the canister.

Shark AZ2002 Vertex DuoClean Vacuum

$450

30-foot cord | 16.38 pounds | HEPA filter, LED lights on nozzle, detachable pod | $$

If your home has a mix of flooring, you should consider this Shark model, which comes recommended by Jon Gibbons at Smart Vacuums. He describes it as a “massive bargain” for what you’re getting, including the brand’s signature DuoClean floorhead, which offers a soft roller for hard floors and a brush bar for carpets. This feature comes with an updated version of Shark’s aptly named “Power Fins” bristles, designed to give carpets an even deeper clean and hard floors a polish, Gibbons adds. He describes the Vertex as one of the most powerful Shark models for its suction. And technically, the detachable pod, which is meant for places like stairs, makes this a two in one.

Shark HV322 Rocket Pet Plus Corded Stick Vacuum

$200 now 10% off

$181

30-foot cord | 8.6 pounds | Handheld-convertible, LED headlights, pet crevice tool | $

For an alternative under $200, the Shark Pet Plus comes highly recommended by Sara Ochoa, a veterinary consultant for DogLab. It has two settings to switch between different surfaces: One is designed to deep clean carpets (even the thick kind), while the hard-floor mode gets just about anything else. Ochoa likes how easy it is to toggle between the two while continuing to vacuum, so you’re not missing a spot in the process. This model has picked up after her succession of dogs, cats, and even a bunny, whose hair seemed to float around the house. Her cat now has a chair he likes to sleep in (and shed on), but the handheld function grabs the fur so well, it “looks like he has never been there.” Plus, it’s easy to clean, with a dust cup that empties out smoothly without pet hair getting stuck inside.

Dyson V11 Animal Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

$550

60-minute run time | 5. 71 pounds | Handheld-convertible, hair screw tool, 150AW | $$$

Your best bet for a pet-specific cordless vacuum is the Dyson V11, which was raved about just as much as the Ball Animal 2 (remember the tie we talked about before). To help pick up the clumps of hair that her hypoallergenic goldendoodle sheds, Rebecca Fadden, founder of the dog-accessories brand Finn + Me, alternates between the head attachments so she can switch between carpet and couches without a problem. Rita Li, the founder of the pet-accessories brand Rororiri, uses her V11 inside her business, which sees a succession of different breeds every day and needs to be constantly cleaned. The vacuum is efficient and lightweight enough to maneuver around displays and underneath furniture. Zay Satchu, a co-founder and the chief veterinary officer at the start-up veterinary clinic Bond Vet, also considers it a must-have as pets come in “bringing New York City in with them. ” And because the vacuum has its own charging station, it works for the frequent cleanings the staff at Bond Vet does (rather than scheduling hours-long sessions).

Since the V11 is currently out of stock, we have two alternatives. The first is the Dyson Absolute V10, which beauty influencer Michaela Podolsky trusts to tidy up after her two shed-happy Rottweilers. With a soft brush head, the V10 keeps her floors in tip-top shape, she says. The second is the Cyclone version of the V10, which Sehaj Grewal of the Melrose Vet praises for its superior suction strength, which gives Grewal “peace of mind, knowing all pet hair is being removed.”

Shark Rocket HV302 Ultra-Light Upright Vacuum

$170

30-foot cord | 7. 5 pounds | Handheld-convertible, precision-duster tool | $

If you have a heavy shedder, we heard about two Shark models in particular. The first was the Shark Apex, which is a favorite of pet-grooming salon Canine Styles on the Upper East Side, which co-owner Mark Drendel says has depended on the brand for over 30 years. But the Shark Rocket stood out because it’s a corded stick vacuum that can handle lots of fur. “It’s the perfect industrial vacuum despite being so lightweight,” according to Tiziana Agnello, the founder of the pet-accessories label LoveThyBeast. She’s so devoted to this vacuum that she bought five of them — split between her company’s store locations and home — and she prefers it over the Dyson cordless vacuums she has used. The Rocket also transforms into a shorter, portable vacuum.

Neato D8 Intelligent Robot Vacuum Cleaner

$400 now 43% off

$229

100-minute run time | 8 pounds | D-shape design, laser mapping, app-controlled | $$

We named the Neato our best overall robot vacuum for pet owners, so it’s only fitting to include it here as well. The D8 is the updated version of the now discontinued D7, which was name-checked by our experts, and this new model has almost identical features. One of those functions lets you create zoning and non-zoning areas. “You can block off and control sections of a room from your phone,” explains Shelby Semel, a canine-behavior expert and trainer. This specificity is what Ryeon Kim, co-founder of pet e-commerce retailer Little Beast, likes, as you can use the app to spot clean (without having to do it yourself). The D-shaped design gets into the corners and crannies you might otherwise miss. Jamie Richardson, veterinarian and chief of staff at veterinary start-up Small Door, used hers to get all the sand up throughout her beachside Bermuda place.

This more affordable model from Eufy took our second-best ribbon in the aforementioned guide. Its slimness is the reason Minha Khan, an art director and owner of a longhaired cat, relies on it so much. “I love that this vacuum reaches areas that my stick vacuum can’t,” she says. The RoboVac also has the Strategist seal of approval: Senior writer Liza Corsillo describes it as the “robot vacuum that helped me avoid couples therapy.” Although it’s meant to be ignored, Corsillo couldn’t ignore how much it helped clean much-argued areas, including “devouring dust bunnies” underneath their bed.

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Cordless Pet Vacuum

$73

17-minute run time | 3 pounds | Lithium-ion battery, upholstery tool | $

This vacuum is like a miniature version of our second-place winner. Raysor uses it whenever their Bissell Turbo misses a spot — with their two-pet household, they are constantly shifting between vacuuming and sweeping. The handheld model is strong enough to get deep-rooted dog hairs between couch cushions and the “renegade litter bits” that sometimes get stuck into corners. As a relatively new cat owner, Strategist writer Lauren Ro likewise depends on an older model of this Bissell to get what her canister vacuum can’t. When she tested out this Bissell, she was happy to find that it picks up everything from “tumbleweeds of cat hair” and dust bunnies to strands of her own long hair.

The Best Vacuums For Pet Hair To Tackle Shedding

Living with an animal companion typically means dealing with shedding, which also means additional cleaning measures. “Pet hair tends to be short and coarse and embeds itself in the fibers of carpet and upholstery,” says cleaning expert Becky Rapinchuk, creator of Clean Mama. While quality handheld and stick vacuums are capable of sucking up a good amount of shedding, if you really want to tackle all the stubborn hairs buried in your carpets and couch cushions, you need a dedicated vacuum for pet hair.

The Shark NV752 Rotator Powered Lift-Away TruePet Upright Vacuum has plenty of features to tackle ... [+] stubborn pet hair.

Amazon

Designed “to ensure that hair does not get clogged in the vacuum,” these specialized vacuums also use filters that target pet dander and other allergens, says Leanne Stapf, chief operating officer of The Cleaning Authority. Some machines even come with special attachments that target hard-to-reach spots so you don’t have to stress about an army of furballs forming between your couch. Together, Stapf continues, these features “can be extremely beneficial.”

While you’ll probably never be able to rid your furniture and floors entirely of fur, a reliable vacuum will help you get close. To find the best of the best, we scanned the market and judged top-sellers based on cleaning capacity, attachments, ease of use and value. Below, here are our picks for the best vacuums for pet hair.

Best Vacuum Cleaner For Pet Hair Overall

A Powerful Upright That Can Stretch Out To Clean Under Couches

Amazon

Shark NV752 Rotator Powered Lift-Away TruePet Upright Vacuum

Weight: 15. 4 pounds | Type: Upright | Attachments: Pet multi-tool, pet power brush, 12” crevice tool

This Shark vacuum is no slouch when it comes to targeting pet hair. It features special lift-away technology that lets you move the pod away from hard-to-reach spots, such as under your couch, as the brushroll keeps turning. A HEPA filter and anti-allergen seal help capture 99.9% of dust and allergens while a large dust cup holds up to 0.88 quarts, meaning you have to empty it less over time. Swivel steering allows you work your way around furniture and corners with ease, and specialized controls let you easily flip between floor and carpet mode. There are also LED headlights to help you see all the pet hair in your path. On the attachment front, a Pet Power Brush works hard to remove pet hair from stubborn spots.

That said, this vacuum is definitely heavier than some other options. If you’re looking for something lightweight, this may not be the right model for you.

Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair

A Smart Device Designed To Dodge Poop and Other Messes

Amazon

iRobot Roomba J7

Weight: 7.5 pounds | Type: Robot | Attachments: No

Plenty of robot vacuums do a decent-enough job of sucking up pet hair. The J7 goes above and beyond. One of the best additional features it comes with? A special Pet Owner Official Promise—or P.O.O.P.—meaning your vacuum will navigate around any unnoticed pet messes, rather than making a big mess. You can also set up customizable “Keep Out Zones” on your phone to tell your vacuum which areas you want (and don’t want) to be cleaned. When your pet is shedding more, you can schedule your vacuum to clean more frequently. You also won’t have to worry about this vacuum’s multi-surface brushes getting tangled with your pet’s hair—a common problem with lesser pet hair vacuums.

Best Handheld Vacuum For Pet Hair

An Easy-To-Use Handheld With A Powerful Brushroll

Amazon

Black + Decker Furbuster Handheld Vacuum for Pets

Weight: 4.2 pounds | Type: Handheld | Attachments: Motorized pet head, extendable crevice tool

This option from Black + Decker includes all sorts of additional features to help tackle pet hair, dirt and more from your floors and upholstery. It also has a motorized brushroll with anti-tangle rubber bristles to lift up pet hair without getting tangled, as well as a specialized Powerboost mode to help you get extra oomph to suck up stubborn hairs. Have a home with lots of hard-to-reach areas? No problem—this vacuum has an extra-long crevice tool to target those tricky areas. A washable filter lets you easily de-gunkify the vacuum while an extra-large dustbin gives you plenty of space to house hair and other crud before you need to empty it. There’s a battery life indicator to alert you when it’s time for a recharge.

Best Cordless Vacuum For Pet Hair

A Strong Stick Vacuum With A Huge Dust Cup

Amazon

Hoover ONEPWR Evolve Pet Cordless Small Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Weight: 6.6 pounds | Type: Cordless | Attachments: No

Many cordless vacuums have small dust cups that need to be emptied frequently, but not The Hoover ONEPWR. This cleaner has a large-capacity dust cup that holds three times more dirt and pet hair than competitors. It also has an antimicrobial brushroll to help reduce odors, plus Power Vortex suction strength to suck up all the stubbon hair and dirt that’s accumulated in your home. With just the touch of a button, you can easily flip between hard floor and carpet mode. Plus, the whole thing weighs less than seven pounds, making it easy to push around and tote up stairs.

Since this model doesn’t have a hose or other attachments, it’s not going to be your go-to vacuum for messes of all kinds. It’s not conducive for cleaning tight, hard-to-reach spots, so you’ll need to keep an additional vacuum on hand for those.

How To Choose The Right Vacuum Cleaner For Pet Hair

Before you start your search for the perfect pet hair vacuum cleaner, familiarize yourself with the machine so you know what to look for. That way, you can make an informed decision—and then get right to tackling all that dog hair that’s accumulated under your furniture.

Brushroll

Because pet hair often embeds in carpet and upholstery, your want a vacuum with a sturdy brushroll, which extract dirt and debris from carpets through suction and spinning. For the most hassle-free cleaning, look for a vacuum with a tangle-free brushroll, since it will be grabbing a lot of pet hair. You also want to seek out one with sturdy, stiff bristles that won’t need to be replaced too often (the softer they are, the less effective they are). That said, even if you regularly clean your brushroll (which you should), they typically need to be replaced every few months or once a year.

Power

When it comes to effectiveness, suction power is, as you might expect, one of the most important factors. “A vacuum that's powerful enough to grab pet hairs is necessary if you want to really get the most fur,” says Rapinchuk. While manufacturers use a few different metrics to measure a vacuum cleaner’s suction power, air watts (AW) is the most common one. The higher the air watts, the higher the suction power; at minimum, you want a model with at least 100 AW.

Dustbin capacity

Pet hair takes up a lot of space in dustbins (also referred to as dust cups). If you don’t have much flooring, you might not need to worry too much about the size of your dustbin. If you have a lot of floorspace to cover, though, make sure your vacuum’s dustbin with a large capacity—at least a 400 mL—so you don’t have to empty it as you clean. Also, make sure the dustbin is easy to remove and put back in place, since you’ll be doing that often.

HEPA filters

HEPA filters (which stand for “high efficiency particulate air”) remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold and bacteria, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. These filters also help trap pet dander and any other particles your vacuum might suck up, lowering the odds they’ll be dispersed as you clean. If you or anyone in your family suffers from allergies, a HEPA filter is essential.

Attachments

Vacuums with special attachments typically come with higher price tags, but if you plan to use yours to cleans things other than hardwood floors, they’re worth the extra cost. Common vacuum attachments include tools that clean upholstery and rugs, whereas pet hair–specific attachments are designed to capture stubborn shedding. Crevice tools are also key for cleaning in small spaces.

Do I Need A Pet Hair Vacuum?

There are a few things to consider. “It depends how much your pet sheds, how often you clean and whether or not you have carpeting in your home,” Stapf says. “Pet hair tends to really stick into carpet over time, which is where a vacuum’s suction comes in handy.” If your home is mostly hardwood, you may prefer to use microfiber sweepers since some pet hair vacuums blow pet hair around, Stapf says. If you have carpeting, though, a vacuum designed to tackle pet hair might be a good choice for you.

Are Robot Vacuums Good For Pet Hair?

A robot vacuum can be a good option to look into, “especially if you run it daily,” Rapinchuk says. “It'll keep up with the daily pet hair and can get into areas that are harder to reach,” she continues. Just one thing to note: Some pets are unsettled by the sound and movement of robot vacuums, so do your best to acclimate them slowly.

Is Dyson Good For Pet Hair?

Dyson vacuums are great for cleaning up pet hair, especially models that are designed to do so, like the Cyclone V10 Animal. Known for their very powerful motors, these vacuums can suck up almost anything with ease. Some of them have features specifically for pet hair; the Cyclone V10 Animal, for example, detangles long hairs while you’re vacuuming. Many Dyson models also have filtration systems that target pet dander, a major allergen, making them a great option for those who suffer from allergies.

Shedding of a pet is an inevitable phenomenon, and special attention must be paid to the care of carpet products during this period. How to clean the carpet from wool with minimal time and effort? We invite you to learn about simple and proven methods.

A feature of cat and dog hair is that it quickly penetrates into the pile to the very foundation. Therefore, it is important to vacuum the carpet regularly: once every two or three days during shedding, and the rest of the time - at least once a week.

If the pet has chosen the carpet as a resting place, the situation is more complicated. There will always be wool on the chosen site, and bringing the pile in order will become an almost impossible task. So it is important to immediately give your pet a personal bedding or sleeping basket. The same applies to combing - timely accustoming your pet to the procedure will make it easier for you to clean carpets during each molt.

General procedure

If you want to remove hair quickly and efficiently, we recommend that you follow this scheme:

  1. Remove wool from all surfaces around the carpet - furniture, curtains, window sills. So you exclude the possibility of getting new hairs from them on the pile.
  2. Sweep or vacuum then mop the floor.
  3. Vacuum the carpet to remove debris and the top layer of wool.
  4. Remove deeply embedded hairs using the appropriate method described below.

The choice of cleaning method must be approached carefully, since most carpets should not be wetted often, and after getting wet they must be properly dried. For viscose products, wet cleaning is completely contraindicated.

In this section, we will list and briefly describe the most affordable and effective methods for removing hair using improvised and specialized tools. Given the variety of these improvised tools, your home will most likely have the necessary inventory.

Special attachment for vacuum cleaner

For many models of vacuum cleaners, you can buy a special nozzle - a turbo brush. Inside it is a rotating roller with bristles, which effectively collects wool, hair and small debris. But for the full use of the turbo brush, the suction power of the vacuum cleaner must be at least 350 W, otherwise the air flow intensity will be insufficient to rotate the roller.

The use of a turbo brush is not rushed. On the surface of the carpet, it must be moved smoothly and slowly, giving enough time to clean the pile.

Analogue - electric brush. Such a nozzle is much less common and is connected to the vacuum cleaner through a special connector. The brushes inside it spin by electricity, and the number of revolutions is much higher than most turbo brushes. The electric brush cleans, respectively, also much better and faster.

It is undesirable to use any of these nozzles for delicate carpets made of natural materials, as well as products with a pile height of more than 15 mm.

Washing vacuum cleaner

Using a washing vacuum cleaner will allow you to remove wool, hair and any specks stuck to the pile. The best choice is a vacuum nozzle with detergent control. But this method will not help get rid of deeply clogged villi.

Important: after using a washing vacuum cleaner, dry the carpet thoroughly.

Wet broom

It is enough to moisten an ordinary broom, shake it off so that water does not drip - and the wool is easily swept away from the surface of the carpet. A quick and effective way if the pet is a cat or dog of a long-haired breed.

The best result is obtained with sequential double processing. We swept, waited a couple of hours and swept again. In the interval between cleanings, it is advisable not to walk on the carpet.

With short hard hairs, the broom copes much worse, and the hairs in the depths of the pile do not reach at all.

Carpet brush

In this case, we mean a brush with medium bristles, designed for manual cleaning of carpets and upholstery. You will also need a basin of water.

One of the simplest, most effective, but time-consuming methods. It is convenient to collect long hair with a wet brush, making movements in the direction of the pile. If there are a lot of hairs, they are short or deep in the pile, repeated brushing can be done with gentle circular motions.

Rinsing the brush in a basin will clean the bristles of dust and small debris. It is important to ensure that drops of water fall on the carpet as little as possible. Felted wool will have to be removed from the brush by hand.

Hard cleaning sponge

A thick washcloth can be an excellent substitute for a brush, especially when removing hair from a short, hard bristle. However, this method has some peculiarities.

It is impossible to make circular movements, it is necessary to move only in the direction of the pile. It is convenient to start from the corner and, gradually shifting to the center and opposite side of the carpet, roll the hairs into lumps and rollers. As you progress, you need to remove the felted wool and moisten the sponge.

The method is not suitable for delicate carpets and is not very effective for long pile. The use of a sponge gives the best result on a dense synthetic carpet.

Sponge mop

The design, consisting of a plastic handle, a replaceable sponge and a wringing system, is convenient not only for washing the floor, but also for collecting wool from the carpet. The principle of operation is similar to using a sponge, but the procedure itself is more convenient and faster. The main advantage of such a mop is convenient humidity control, so there is less risk of seriously wet the carpet.

Before cleaning, it is advisable to soak the mop in water for 10-15 minutes - it needs time to soak for the most effective collection of hairs.

Fabric softener

The conditioner softens the hair that has settled on the pile, making it easier to pick it up during normal dry vacuuming.

In a spray bottle, mix 1 liter of water and 200 ml of fabric softener. Spray this mixture all over the hair and leave it on for 30-40 minutes. Vacuum the carpet thoroughly.

Be sure to test on an inconspicuous area before use.

Grooming glove

Special gloves for combing animals perfectly cope with wool on the carpet - with rubber or silicone tubercles on the palmar surface.

A good replacement is household rubber or medical latex gloves. Both materials easily accumulate static electricity and attract hairs.

The principle of use is simple - moisten gloves and iron the carpet in the direction of the pile. Wool will roll, it needs to be removed. It is advisable to vacuum the cleaned product to fix the effect.

Window scrapers and brushes

They act on the same principle as rubber gloves - they are electrified and attract wool. The moistened scraper should be pressed tightly against the pile and slowly moved along it, as if through glass, removing the rolled-up hairs.

The activity is laborious and time consuming, but the result is worth it. Since the scraper is not saturated with water, you can not be afraid of serious wetting of the carpet.

Roller or brush for cleaning clothes

Sticky rollers designed for cleaning clothes are also suitable for carpet. Mentally dividing the product into small sections, alternately process them in different directions. The roller is clogged with wool - change the tape and continue to clean until the desired result.

The method is convenient because it does not require strict tracking of the direction of movement. But there is also a drawback - the roller is powerless against long, hard hairs deeply embedded in the pile.

Similarly, you can use a brush for clothes, only you need to clean the carpet product in the direction of the pile. This option is suitable for removing wool from delicate natural fiber carpets.

Adhesive tape (adhesive tape)

A quick and effective remedy for the local removal of any hair is adhesive tape. It is advisable to take adhesive tape with increased stickiness, and then not a single hair will remain on the carpet.

Wrap the tape across your palm, sticky side out, and pat around to pick up hair and other debris. The adhesive tape got clogged - they threw it away, wrapped a new one, repeated the steps.

Animal brush

One of the most effective methods, but rather risky. You can use a metal brush only for synthetic bristles, natural bristles are likely to be irreversibly damaged.

The cleaning process resembles combing a pet - with neat and smooth movements in the direction of the villi.

The best option for dense long pile carpets. The result of cleaning carpets with low or medium pile is noticeably worse.

Sandpaper

The use of abrasive materials is allowed only for synthetic carpets with a dense short pile. Coarse or medium-grained emery is suitable for removing wool of any stiffness and length, as well as small and large debris.

You need to collect the hairs with light patting movements, trying not to cling too much to the pile of the carpet product. Do not rub the carpet, otherwise there will be damage.

Sandpaper should not be used for cleaning woven products, long and looped pile.

Construction mastic

This unexpected tool can also be used to remove hair. Take a little mastic, make a roller out of it and gently roll it over the surface of the carpet. When the product loses stickiness, take a new portion and repeat the steps.

Do not press the mastic too hard and avoid rubbing movements. The risk of the method is that the cleaning agent can stick to the carpet.

When choosing the best option, you need to take into account the material, length and type of carpet pile, focusing on the indicated nuances of each method.

The quality and speed of cleaning also depend on the structure of the pet's coat. Soft and long hairs are easier to collect than hard and short ones. The most convenient in terms of cleaning are Persian cats, collies and spaniels. But you will definitely make your life easier if you provide timely care and monitoring of the health of your pet, no matter what breed it is.

Carpets always require extra care, like any material. Only timely cleaning guarantees the preservation of a presentable appearance of the product. This is especially true of apartments and houses where animals live. In this article, we will look at how to clean the carpet from wool at home, what methods exist and which ones are the most effective.

General recommendations

It is important that pet hair is cleaned regularly, the more thoroughly the better. Otherwise, even a healthy person may develop an allergy (especially in children).

Pet hair can be reduced by following these simple tips:

Regardless of the method of cleaning the carpet, other recommendations will become indispensable:

Now let's move on to some more specific advice on what products can be used to solve a dog or cat's hair problem.

Cleaning methods

How do I clean a carpet of cat or dog hair? There are several proven methods that will be useful to everyone: this is the use of ordinary brushes, and using a washing vacuum cleaner, and ordinary foam rubber sponges, and even adhesive tape. The specific cleaning option is selected based on which of these tools are available to you.

Foam rubber is quite suitable for situations where the pile of carpets is not very long. But cleaning lint-free carpets is quite simple - here we can use the option with a roller, tape. The principles remain roughly the same everywhere, assuming that the cleaning agent after the cat is simply swept over the surface several times and it is possible to remove everything.

Vacuum cleaner turbo brush

Many modern vacuum cleaner models have special brushes that rotate themselves. When cleaning a carpet, it is this device that can be used instead of conventional nozzles, since it works faster. But you need to clean everything slowly, only in this case a sufficient amount of dog or cat hair will settle on the surface of the rotating brush.

It is worth noting that silk and wool carpets will not tolerate too much treatment in this way.

Vacuum cleaner

This treatment will not only remove hair or hair, but also other particles adhering to the surface. The washing vacuum cleaner has a special vacuum nozzle - it automatically controls the supply of detergent, and the brush thoroughly and intensively washes every carpet lint. However, even with this technique, all the wool that has accumulated in the thickness cannot be collected, and the carpet product will have to be taken out to dry after each cleaning.

Wet broom

A regular broom soaked in water will help remove most of the accumulated hair. An excellent result of such cleaning will be if you do not walk on the surface for some time, and then walk with a broom again. Then there will be no traces of a cat or dog.

But there are a few things to consider:

Wet brushes

In this case, we are talking about tools designed specifically for manual processing. The bristles of the brush should be of medium hardness. A basin of water also needs to be prepared in advance. The brush is wetted with water, then the hair is removed with it. Carpet cleaning from wool is carried out in the same direction as the pile of the carpet. Soft circular movements help if the first time you can not achieve the effect.

Rinse the brush from time to time and then manually remove the hairs that have wound around the bristles.

The method is labor-intensive, but its efficiency practically does not raise any questions. Thanks to this, it is easy to collect wool of both medium and long lengths. In the presence of short-haired animals, we also clean with simple brushes.

Hard Foam Pads

Hard cleaning pads are available at any hardware store. They also wipe the carpets in the direction of the pile. With such actions, the wool gradually rolls from one edge of the carpet to the other. Movement should be only in one direction, as in the case of collecting water from furniture.

Rinse the sponge thoroughly in water as soon as it gets dirty. Just do not randomly move the device back and forth, otherwise the dog or cat hair will remain, and the surface of the carpet will most likely deteriorate.

This method can be called effective, but it is relevant when working with dense carpets equipped with a low pile.

Mop with a sponge

This tool has become quite popular, because with its help cleaning the apartment is simplified many times. In appearance, the tool resembles an ordinary mop, only instead of a wooden base there is a mount with a sponge. Such a device was originally intended for washing floors and tiles, but with its help you can rid the carpet of wool.

There are several recommendations:

This cleaning has one main advantage - it does not contribute to excessive wetting of the pile.

Vacuum cleaner and fabric softener

Fabric softeners can also be used on carpets. Such products help soften all the villi (in particular, dog hair). Not only laundry products are suitable, but also hair conditioners.

For cleaning, first take a container with a spray bottle, into which about 200 ml of conditioner and a glass of water are poured. Everything is carefully shaken up. The agent is evenly sprayed onto the carpet, after which you need to wait a bit, and then vacuum it.

Important! First test this option in a small area and only then move on to the rest of the space.

Rubber gloves and special gloves

Rubber gloves have one main property - they attract hairs. In order to collect wool from a carpet or upholstery of a sofa, it is enough to put on medical models of gloves made of latex, soak them in water and move them over the surface.

Other products also suitable for carpet cleaning:

Brushes and scrapers used for windows

Rubber is generally a material that attracts all sorts of fluff and hairs and contributes to the fact that wool rolls off any surface. It is enough to take a brush or scraper with a rubberized base, and then go over the surface with quick and short movements. The tool must be periodically cleaned of cat hair that sticks to it.

Adhesive rollers

Adhesive rollers are covered with a suitable tape, everything sticks to it, especially small hairs. Initially, such devices are designed for cleaning clothes, but they also do a good job of cleaning carpets. It is enough to send a simple roller across the carpet in different directions, and walk on the surface several times. All dirt will stick to the tape, which is easy to clean.

The main disadvantage that such cleaning has is that the rollers are very small, moreover, they can stop working altogether if too much cat hair sticks to the surface.

Scotch or adhesive tape

The principle remains the same as in the previous case. It's just that the device itself costs less. You can choose tape or tape with a high degree of stickiness. For cleaning, you just need to cut off a small piece of the product and move the sticky side over the surface of the carpet. If necessary, the tape can be easily replaced with a clean one, as soon as it gets too dirty.

Metal brushes for combing dogs

Metal brushes can be used to comb carpets in the same way that owners do with their pet hair. The process takes a lot of time, but the result will not disappoint. It will be possible to get rid of even particles that have clogged very deeply.

Short-pile carpets are less effective with these brushes. And you need to use the tool with caution so that the carpet itself does not tear.

Sandpaper

Medium or coarse grit in this case is the best option. Long hair and soft hair are collected with equal efficiency. It is impossible to use such a device on looped and woven products, carpets with a long pile, it can damage and then it will not be possible to remove the defect.

Building mastic

You can walk on the carpet simply with the so-called "sausage" of mastic - this is a special non-hardening sealing material. Such a mass will be able to collect literally all the wool on itself. As soon as the original properties are lost, you just need to replace the element with another one. The mastic should remain only slightly sticky.
