15 Stylish Bedroom Accent Wall Ideas

Committing to a room full of patterned wallpaper or an energetic paint color isn't for everyone, but the good news is that the next best thing is opting for an accent wall, where you pick one spot to put your style on full display. The perfect place to introduce an accent wall is in your bedroom, according to interior designer Taniya Nayak, who currently stars on HGTV's Battle on the Beach.

The best approach is to focus on the wall behind your bed. However, if that doesn't appeal to you, settle on the one directly across from you when you walk into the room, Nayak advises. And don't fret if deciding on the right accent wall color for your space has been a struggle. "The easiest and best way to pick a bedroom accent wall color is to work off of an existing inspiration piece like a throw pillow or bedspread," she says. "If it has a print or a pattern on it, pull a color that is the most minimal from that inspiration piece."

Keeping Nayak's pointers and your design style in mind, click through for 15 stylish bedroom accent wall ideas to take your home to the next level.

unusual decor and finish options

The design of the walls in the bedroom should be given special attention, because you will spend a lot of time in this room, and it is important that nothing in it irritates, but, on the contrary, inspires, soothes and pleases. We have collected 15 interesting ideas for decorating a bedroom - despite the originality, each of them is great for a private area in an apartment.

How to decorate the walls in the bedroom

  1. Wallpaper and frescoes
  2. Wall panels
  3. Mirrors
  4. Different textures and colors
  5. Lamps and garlands
  6. Pictures and posters
  7. Unusual decor
  8. Brick
  9. Concrete
  10. Dark paint
  11. Moldings
  12. DIY decorations
  13. Curtains
  14. Carpet
  15. Racks and shelves

Wallpaper is often used in the design of bedroom walls, and it is clear why: it is convenient, inexpensive and beautiful. In addition, there are many options for unusually placing them. You can go the traditional route and completely cover the accent wall with wallpaper. You can do it differently - for example, enclose part of the canvas in a frame and thus create a decorative panel.

contrasting with the rest of the walls, or choose something that echoes in color and pattern. In the first case, the wall with decor will attract all the attention, in the second case, the interior as a whole will look more harmonious.

The color of the photo wallpaper can be contrasting or support selected shades in the bedroom. The drawing is not too big and realistic. For example, huge images of animals have long gone out of fashion and definitely will not decorate the room. If you need to visually increase the space of the bedroom, choose a picture with a perspective.

There are a lot of options on the market, but for the bedroom the best ones are the most environmentally friendly: from textiles, leather, wood.

Soft panels on the wall in the bedroom

They are most often found in this room - as a replacement for the headboard. Fabric panels are popular, but leather can also be seen, especially in brutal or respectable interiors.

6
a photo 9Soft Panels the width of the bed itself (the length can be different, up to the ceiling), although there are also projects in which they are placed on the entire wall.

Wood paneling

Ideal if you want to decorate your interior in an eco-style (by the way, a great solution!). However, a wooden wall will also take root in other solutions: from modern style to art deco.

Laminate or parquet board

One of the latest popular bedroom design trends is to decorate one of the walls with laminate or parquet board. Finishing can move from the floor to the walls and even the ceiling.

3D panels

Made from a variety of materials. Their key feature is their unconventional appearance. This is just an example of the fact that the decor may not be bright, but memorable.

It’s easy to imagine a small mirror in the design, but what about a whole mirror wall? This technique helps not only to highlight one of the surfaces, but also to expand the space (very important for small spaces).

Photo: Instagram @viktoriya_lazareva

Photo: Instagram @u.kvartira

The only condition is that it is better not to place such large mirrors in front of the bed: they will distract from sleep, glare. The ideal place is the space behind the back.

The combination of different textures and colors can work very powerfully. An example is a mix of wood, concrete of a mirror surface: seemingly rather ordinary materials, but together such a finish looks fresh and interesting.

The same goes for colors: it is not necessary to cover the whole room with bright posters - you can paint muted blocks of color, and now your design looks unusual.

The bedroom should have at least several light sources: ceiling, bedside, rest or work area. Use it: for example, choose interestingly shaped wall sconces or ditch banal lamps.

An idea for the brave is to place the wires from the lamps on the wall in such a way that they begin to resemble an intricate picture.

You can decorate a room in a modern style, Scandinavian light interior and even a brutal loft with a garland. Lovely garlands with light bulbs add romance and comfort.

A simple but cool idea for decorating the walls in the bedroom is paintings and posters. The advantage of this decor is that you can diversify it to your taste. For example, hang letter posters that will inspire you every morning, add pictures of beautiful landscapes, or make a gallery of family photos.

Unusual location

If you want an original design, think about the placement of the paintings. Recently, you can often see them not hanging, but leaning against the wall - this adds a touch of bohemianism and relaxation to the room (and it does not interfere with intimate space at all).

Photo: Instagram @u.kvartira

Paintings can be left on the floor or on a special shelf. In a small room, it’s a good idea to place the latter directly above the headboard to save space. At the same time, highlight the sleeping area.

What if you put the picture right on the headboard? It will definitely look amazing! But for safety, we still advise you to covertly fix it so that it does not fall.

There are actually many more options for wall decor than ordinary paintings, but it is better to choose them according to the style of the room.

For example, ethnic accessories will look good in a boho-style room, while panels with trendy metallic sheen will fit well into modern classics or art deco.

Look for unusual combinations: why not decorate a Scandi room with deer antlers and hang Cameroonian hats on a brick wall? Ordinary hats, by the way, can also be used as wall decor, as well as unusual clocks, vinyl stickers, bas-reliefs, mosaic and wood panels ... All of them will be the perfect decoration for the wall in the bedroom above the bed.

Brick is another material that has a place in the bedroom. Why? It's simple - it's natural. True, for some, such a finish may seem too rough and brutal. Yes, perhaps we should leave the red brick for lofts and lovers of bold decisions.

dye. White is ideal for an intimate space: paint a brick wall, add an old bed, a vintage table - and now you already have an elegant interior in the spirit of a Parisian apartment. Other colors can also be used: well, if these are deep dark shades that set you up for sleep.

An option for connoisseurs of industrial aesthetics and urban style - concrete-like walls. Such finishing without finishing is not suitable for everyone - after all, concrete walls have little in common with the traditional understanding of comfort that should be present in the bedroom. But true connoisseurs of interior design will definitely like this idea.

Want to experiment with dark wall colors? The bedroom is the best place for this. Dark shades will relax and set you up for sleep.

If the room is small, then only one wall can be made dark - behind the headboard. Or paint the entire perimeter, but leave a light gap near the ceiling - it will appear higher, and the space will be freer.

The classic wall finish is gaining popularity in interiors again. In the bedroom, moldings most often highlight the area behind the headboard, although they can also be located on other surfaces.

Moldings can be painted to match or contrast with the wall color. You can also make a "frame" of an unusual shape, and place an art object inside.

If you can't find the right decoration in the store or you just love creativity, decorate the walls with your own hands. An easy option is to make paper crafts. Flowers or paper butterflies will look beautiful.

Photo: Instagram @holdingconsul

Photo: Instagram @lanagladko

You can go even further: your own painting, macrame panel, an unusual gallery of photo frames… The advantage of such decor is that it will bring individuality to the space and fill it with real home comfort. After all, a thing made by one's own hands always stores more heat than a factory one.

A budget-friendly design idea for one bedroom wall is to hang curtains. The most interesting option is to do it at the head of the bed. Then the curtains will simultaneously perform the role of a canopy. The room will definitely become more comfortable.

Think carpets are a thing of the past? Not at all. Choose current models. So, washed carpets are in fashion today, as if they had lain for several decades with my grandmother. Better without complex ornaments. You can add fashionable boho style details to the interior of the bedroom by using carpets with oriental patterns.

Open shelves and racks are both useful and stylish decor. On them you can put the collected collection, make a composition of paintings and framed posters, put flowers or books. Beautiful and functional - in the spirit of interior trends.
