Curtain designs for bedrooms
10 tips for ideal sleep space drapes |
When it’s time to tuck away the day, the right bedroom curtain ideas will not only make your sleep space look and feel great, but help you sleep soundly too.
Thinking carefully about your drapes is a crucial part of putting together your bedroom ideas. Taking up a substantial surface area that stretches from floor to ceiling, they can make a huge impact on your design scheme.
Whether you want your curtain ideas to blend in with a relaxed scheme or make an impact with a pop of color or pattern, aesthetics are obviously important when it comes to curtains, but so is their ability to keep out sunlight when you’re trying to get your beauty sleep.
Bedroom curtain ideas
For tips on picking bedroom curtain ideas that don’t only look good but leave you feeling well rested too, we asked the experts for their advice.
1. Pick a curtain heading that suits your style
From bohemian bedroom ideas to slick modern looks, pick a curtain heading that fits with your personal style.
‘Different curtain headings will create distinctive looks,’ says Mariana Ugarte and Jen Choate, Co-Founders of Interior Fox .
‘Those looking for a modern and sleek finish should consider a curtain track system. Alternatively, for a more relaxed look try tie-top curtains. They are increasingly becoming more popular, they feel light, airy, and add a rustic element to your window.’
In this white bedroom, a fresh neutral look is accented with a black curtain pole that ties in with the picture frames and out-of-shot sideboard.
‘When working with eyelet curtains make sure to coordinate the eyelet color with the chosen curtain pole,’ advise Ugarte and Choate.
2. Go long
If you’re looking to add a feeling of decadence to your master bedroom, take your curtains to the top.
‘Give height and drama to the room by hanging the curtains higher than the window. This will elongate the window and make best use of the natural light,’ say the Interior Fox duo. ‘When measuring the window, make sure to take the full length so the curtain drops to the floor with no gaps.’
In this dark bedroom by Murphy Deesign , a small space with relatively short windows is made to feel taller with the use of George Spencer Designs fabric hung substantially above the window frame, teamed with a white ceiling that contrasts with the dark blue walls.
3. Bring pattern into a simple scheme
Curtains are a great way to add visual interest into a room, and stretch it from top to toe. If you’re looking to add interest into a generally simple bedroom scheme, pick a small format pattern that borrows its colors from accents across the room.
In this blue bedroom by Studio Duggan , a neutral backdrop of grays is enlivened by a Moroccan-inspired blue and red curtain pattern. To tie a curtain pattern into a room, drop patterns of a similar scale elsewhere, or even use the same pattern on cushions, as demonstrated here.
4. Sleep tight with a blackout lining
First and foremost, curtains are for blocking out the outside world and that includes any unwelcome natural light.
‘If the curtains are for the bedroom I’d suggest a blackout lining with integrated interlining. This will obstruct early morning sunlight, keep your room cool throughout the summer months, warm in winter and provide the best drape,’ says Harry Cole, Founder at Loom & Last .
‘Blackout lining is also a good option for living spaces at the front of the house as it restricts visibility and helps to maintain privacy.'
Blackout curtains don’t have to look heavy either. These Loom & Last curtains are blackout lined, but give the external impression of lightweight cotton.
5. Go eco-friendly with linen
(Image credit: Emily J Followill/Beth Webb Interiors)
Using natural materials is among the top bedroom trends right now and if a trend is good for the planet too, we’re all here for it.
‘Linen works best for an eco-friendly curtain choice,’ says Cole. ‘The advantage to choosing this natural material is that it has very little impact on the environment unlike many of the synthetic materials. Made from flax plants that require little water or pesticides, linen is regarded as the most sustainable fabric.’
In this room by interior designer Beth Webb , a linen-style curtain shows how the look can also marry rusticity with sophistication.
6. Make the curtains one of many colored accents
Curtains are a great way to bring a generous pop of color into a room, especially modern curtain ideas. With just one item, you can transform a neutrally painted room and really lead its color story. Pair it with accents of the same color group around the room to create a coherent scheme.
This guest bedroom is given warmth thanks to pink accents of different shades throughout the space, contrasted with rich leafy greens. Creating a color scheme through soft furnishings is an excellent option for the likes of kids' rooms, where you may not want to commit to an all-out paint job.
7. Pair your curtains with a blind
Blackout linings aren’t the only way to fortify your curtains’ light-shielding abilities.
‘Alternatively, we like to pair curtains with a blind,’ say Choate and Ugarte. ‘Not only does it filter out the light and increase privacy, but it also creates a visual focal point that is sophisticated, timeless, and chic.’
This has been achieved in this gray bedroom by K&H Design , where an unusual window arrangement is turned into a centerpiece through the use of an additional sheer curtain and a blind that takes color inspiration from the bedding.
‘It’s important to ensure the fabric of the blind and curtain complement one another. Picking out a color within the fabric or pattern of the curtain is a good place to start,’ say Choate and Ugarte.
8. Add a luxurious lining
Remember, a curtain always has two sides and that means you can have double the fun - a great option for curtain closet ideas.
While not strictly necessary for rustic linen alternatives, including a lining into traditionally formal curtains is essential for making them feel finished and substantial.
To boost your luxury bedroom ideas, add a lining that adds a subtle touch of texture or deep color to channel thoughtful opulence. In this bedroom, a set of taupe curtains are lined and trimmed with a plush orange-red velvet for a delightful surprise.
9. Keep it neat with a lath and fascia heading
If you’re not quite brave enough to dabble in the pelmet’s comeback, there is a more subtle way to create a neat heading to your bedroom curtains, explains interior designer Kit Kemp .
‘A covered ‘lath and fascia’ is very different to a full pelmet and is a more contemporary hanging mechanism, formed of a corded metal track fixed to a board. The track is then hidden from view by a 5cm fascia.’
Usually covered in the same fabric as your curtains, a fascia allows for a neat and discreet curtain rail covering that doesn’t drop in front of the window, allowing maximum light in.
‘It allows an elegant pinch pleat curtain to remain on show as the curtain sits in front of the fascia rather than under and behind it when the curtains are closed,’ says Kemp.
10. Finish with a trim
If you never like to leave a job unfinished, tie up your curtain design with the ultimate closer.
‘Add a contemporary twist to your window dressing with a decorative trim or pattern along the edges. This can make all the difference and can transform simple curtains into a modern design statement,’ say Choate and Ugarte.
‘We’re known for our love of detail and the same applies when it comes to curtains,’ says Kemp, who designed this bedroom with red curtains finished with a bright blue and red spotted trim.
‘We love to add detail to the leading edge, whether it be a braid, trim, piping or contrast fabric’.
Which curtains are best for the bedroom?
When choosing curtains for the bedroom, it’s important to think about how you sleep.
If you or any other occupants are light sleepers that tend to wake up with the sun, then you may want to choose curtains that are primed for blocking out light. Choosing heavier fabrics will do this, or consider adding a blackout liner to that lighter fabric you’ve fallen in love with.
If you’re wedded to the idea of breezy, slightly sheer curtains, consider layering them, or teaming them with a fitted blind that can be employed when you need the room to be as dark as possible.
How do I arrange my bedroom curtains?
In contemporary bedroom design, a laidback feel is what’s really on trend, so be prepared to let your curtains do what they want. If you are really keen to tie them back, cords and ties will feel more relaxed than wall-fixed holdbacks.
Think also about the length of your curtains.
‘For a look that feels more luxurious, go one step further and add additional length to the curtain so that it gathers at the bottom,’ say Ugarte and Choate. ‘An additional 3-6 inches is necessary for this technique. This style is more appropriate for rooms with less traffic, where the floors aren’t cleaned as often.’
15 Best Bedroom Curtain Ideas
Annie SchlechterWhen it comes to bedroom decor ideas, a few things take center stage. Namely, the bed, nightstands, dressers, and mirrors. Undoubtedly all of these pieces of furniture play a pivotal role in the completion of your bedroom, but there’s one very simple thing you might be missing: curtains, of course! While curtains might not take up the same physical space as actual pieces of furniture, finding the right ones to outfit your windows can totally make or break your room. And, most times, you won’t even realize it until you hang them up and compare side-by-side pictures.
Since we believe everyone should feel the satisfaction of a picture-perfect bedroom, we went ahead and dug through the web for the best bedroom curtain ideas. From white canvas, cream sheers, and bold pops of color to pom-pom edges, floor-length neutrals, and patterned panels, ahead, you’ll find more than a dozen options to consider when dressing your windows. Just keep in mind that some of the options only come in single panels, so you might need to buy two depending on the size of your window and the end look you’re aiming for.
And remember: Even after selecting your curtains, there’s the option to dress up your panes even more based on the hardware you choose. From rods and knobs to rings and valances, the options are pretty endless.

Curtains for the bedroom - 80 photo ideas, types of curtains, how to choose
To feel safe and private is perhaps one of the main wishes of every owner of an apartment or house, especially when it comes to personal space. The element that plays a key role in creating this feeling, as well as protecting the residents from the outside world, is the curtains in the bedroom, the choice of which should not be postponed until the last moment. We will tell you how not to get lost in all the variety of assortment and buy textiles that are perfect for your design.
Types of curtains for the bedroom
Curtains are not just a straight sheet on the window, protecting from prying eyes. They can vary in shape, volume, size, creating bright accents in the interior or complementing its minimalist look. French, Japanese, classic… Which one to choose? Let's go through the most popular types and try to figure out how they look in the bedroom.
French curtains
A type of curtain where the textiles are matched to create many rounded pleats along their entire length. The effect is achieved with the help of cords from the wrong side of the matter that pass through the loops. Such curtains in the bedroom look very solemn, especially in combination with patterned material. By choosing a light translucent fabric, you can achieve the effect of airiness or combine it with a more massive one.
Austrian curtains
This type of curtains has common features with the French, while having a more restrained decor. When lowered, horizontal folds are only along the bottom edge, leaving the top straight. Elegant and at the same time concise.
Roman shades
Despite its ancient origin, Roman blinds in the bedroom look quite modern and practical. This is a strip of fabric stretched over a structure that is installed by the window.
Roman blinds fixed, vertically adjustable. For them, dense impenetrable textiles are often used, which reliably protect the room from sunlight.
Japanese curtains
These are several rectangular, even sheets that are fixed with rigid inserts at the bottom to prevent wrinkling. They can be with one-sided or central sliding. Japanese curtains resemble a large screen, ideally fitting into a minimalist bedroom interior.
Roller blinds
Comfortable type of curtains for the bedroom, the fabric of which is wound on a special roller. Thanks to this mechanism, matter can be fixed in any position, adjusting the level of lighting in the room as desired. It will look good as plain textiles, as well as a canvas with an elegant pattern.
Classic curtains
The most common option, which is two straight fabrics with a separation in the center. Despite the seemingly simple look, these curtains can be decorated with any patterns or accessories, creating a unique design in the bedroom interior.
Types of curtains according to the method of fastening
A more inconspicuous, but no less important point, understanding of the features of which will greatly simplify the choice of ideal curtains, is the method of attaching to the cornice. According to this criterion, several types can be distinguished.
Curtains for the bedroom with drawstrings
Attached to the cornice by tying ribbons or string around the structure. Best suited for thinner fabrics, but wide stripes are recommended for thick fabrics. Large bows help create an airy design, which is important for children's bedrooms. The advantage of the view is the absence of extraneous sounds that usually occur when moving along the eaves.
Curtains for the bedroom with grommets
The upper part of the curtains includes eyelets, which are put on the cornice. The advantage of the view is the invisibility of the method of fastening, which in some cases can visually increase the flows or create a feeling of unity of the artistic composition of the canvas. In addition, with the help of eyelets, uniform folds are obtained. The density of the details reduces the wear of the fabric.
Curtains for the bedroom on the drawstring
A drawstring is a pocket-tunnel in the upper part of the fabric, into which the cornice tube is threaded. They are quiet and have a neat appearance. They are considered a type of straight curtains that form light folds.
Curtains for the bedroom with braid
Unlike the previous version, this one is distinguished by frequent vertical folds, which give the product dynamism and splendor. The effect is achieved with the help of sewn-in cords that are pulled together. At the same time, it is recommended to choose a fabric wider than the window space used, since when assembled, the curtains can become one and a half to two times smaller.
Curtains in the bedroom on rings with clothespins
This view can be found in the interiors of many apartments. Curtains are attached to the cornice thanks to special rings with clothespins that extend beyond the fabric. The most practical option for curtains for the bedroom, which does not require additional effort during installation. Creates a classic design that suits different styles.
Which fabric to choose?
Of course, it is better to give preference to natural materials, especially in the bedroom. Cotton and linen have a pleasant texture and breathability. But such a choice is more suitable for apartments located on the north side, since under the influence of the sun the canvas fades faster. You can additionally use blinds or roller blinds.
But we shouldn't discount curtains made of artificial materials - they are not only practical, but also characterized by great variety. For example, polyester has a wide range of textures. Taffeta creates a light feel and is suitable for voluminous curtains. Viscose looks luxurious and is washable. Organza is the perfect solution for an airy light bedroom interior.
In terms of décor, you can find a wide variety of options on the modern market - from simple patterns to textiles with complex prints. In the bedroom, try to use plain light-colored curtains that will help create a calm atmosphere.
How to choose curtains in the bedroom according to style?
The style of the bedroom plays an important role in choosing the right curtain option. After all, if you followed a certain direction in the design of the room, then you will have to adhere to it in every detail.
Classic bedroom curtains
Despite its traditional character, the classic style does not lose popularity today. In this solution, curtains play an important role in creating a luxurious as well as cozy design.
According to the rules, two levels of matter are used: a dense canvas with a floral pattern, under which is a transparent veil. The best fit for this interior - French or Austrian.
It is desirable that the color scheme of the curtains be light, pastel, like the interior itself. In the bedroom, every element should contribute to relaxation and sound sleep. If several colors are used in the room, be guided by the color of the bedspread.
Contemporary bedroom curtains
This style has no clear boundaries and rules. Following it, you need to focus on general design principles, not be afraid of experiments or unusual combinations.
Classic curtains are well suited, the bright accent of which is the color, as well as an interesting pattern. Roman, Japanese types will fit in combination with a long curtain of a different shade.
Curtains for the bedroom in Provence style
Provence style in the bedroom loves coziness and rustic charm, so the curtains are its indispensable element. Pay attention to light airy fabrics or textiles with a floral pattern. The good old cell also looks good, especially if such matter has already been used in the interior, for example, as a bedspread on the bed, tablecloths.
The color palette should ideally match the overall design, standing out due to the delicate texture and graceful folds.
Minimalist bedroom curtains
At the mention of the minimalist style, the question may arise: why are curtains needed here? After all, design involves a limited set of items that serve only practical purposes. But in a private space like the bedroom, curtains are more of a necessity than a decoration.
Curtains should not contain textures, but be made in white, gray or black. A simple classic curtain, roller blinds, as well as Roman blinds will be enough to create the desired effect.
Additional criteria for choosing curtains
Bedroom curtains are not only a decorative element. They serve the practical purpose of providing privacy. Relevant for those who live on the ground floor or whose windows are located close to the neighboring house. Therefore, in the evening, dense fabrics are used, and in the daytime, light translucent tulles are used.
If you are not afraid of prying eyes, pay attention to where the window goes. The sunny side can bring some inconvenience to residents. An excellent option in this case is Roman or Japanese curtains, which will reliably protect the bedroom from excessive light.
When all practical issues are resolved, you can concentrate on decorative ones. To do this, use textiles with patterns or buy additional accessories, for example, pick up curtains with tassels or a lambrequin.
Pay attention to the dimensions of the space and ceilings. In an interior with a large area, any solution will look harmonious, but small bedrooms require a special approach. The same applies to the height of the walls - those that are more than a few meters can be used to demonstrate beautiful patterns on textiles.
Curtains for a small bedroom
Bedrooms, which do not have an impressive amount of square meters, and most of our houses have such, are very demanding in relation to window design. Curtains in this case should not prevent the penetration of natural light, but responsibly fulfill the mission of a partition between the inner and outer worlds.
Choose light shades, even if your design includes two levels of curtains. Ideally, if the color scheme is close to the wall decoration, as bright details can enhance the feeling of the boundaries of the space.
In particularly severe cases, it is better to do with plain textiles. At the same time, Roman, roller and other types of curtains that do not create a large number of folds will look good in a small bedroom.
Ceiling cornices will help visually enlarge low ceilings. And the fabric itself in this case should reach the floor, although this solution may seem impractical to some. Vertical lines will enhance the desired effect, while a laconic look will create a stylish atmosphere.

70 photos of modern design ideas
A bedroom is a place where people regain strength and vitality at the end of a long day. Healthy sleep and well-being of a person directly depend on how correctly its environment is chosen. In this article, we will look at all the fashion trends and modern ideas in the design of curtains in the bedroom, as well as give a lot of illustrative photos with examples.
Modern bedroom curtains play just as important a role as a comfortable bed in ensuring a good sleep and a comfortable rest. They should not only be beautiful, but also shade the sunlight well.
The photo shows modern double curtains in the interior of the bedroom. This curtain design has become fashionable again.
This season, designers recommend adopting several models of curtains that fully meet the requirements for bedroom curtains and are in line with fashion trends. Let's get to know them better.
Draperies and tulle never go out of style. This is due to the fact that it is difficult to spoil any room with a combination of thick and transparent curtains on one ledge.
In addition, their design (color, pattern, texture) is so diverse that you can always find a suitable option for any interior style. Consider the combinations of curtains and tulle that are relevant this season.
Long curtains
Classic drapes and curtains are very common this year in fashion design projects. Their cut and texture have remained unchanged for many years.
The photo shows curtains in the traditional Provence style. This style is characterized by floral motifs in textiles.
Only fabrics change, their appearance, quality, colors, which is natural. Production technologies are constantly being improved and modern materials cannot be completely identical to their historical counterparts.
But in any version, the classic looks dignified, elegant and gives the bedroom not only comfort, but also status.
Distinctive features of classic curtains:
- carefully adjusted cut;
- noble fabrics;
- exact proportions;
- thoughtful and rich colors;
- availability of decorative accessories.
A traditional option for the bedroom - heavy sliding curtains made of thick silk with a pelmet of the same fabric and silk tulle. They are decorated with fringe, tassels and are collected on the sides with tacks or hairpins.
This season the color of curtains should be saturated, without shine, reminiscent of gouache paints.
The tulle can be sheer or the same color as the curtains, but very diluted.
Eyelets
Curtains with eyelets - plastic or metal rings framing the openings in the upper part of the fabric panels, are especially popular this season.
They consist of two parts that snap into place and hold the fabric tightly. The result is a strong and comfortable fastening that allows the curtains to slide freely along the eaves and close and open them with one hand movement.
This fastening allows you to combine curtains of different densities on one window, and any fabric can be used for their tailoring, so it is suitable for most modern interior styles.
Only round cornice is suitable for eyelet curtains. Due to the fact that they are installed at the same distance from each other, the vertical folds on the fabric are even and the same.
At the same time, the opening itself is almost imperceptible and it seems that the cornice penetrates the curtains themselves.
If you don't plan to move the curtains completely apart in the bedroom, you can do without a cornice altogether, and fix the curtains directly to the wall using special hooks. This design looks very stylish and airy.
The secret of the beauty of curtains on grommets is conciseness. They are not decorated with lambrequins, curtain accessories and lush draperies. The emphasis in their design is only on the texture and color of the fabric.
The only embellishments that can be allowed with this type of window decoration are artistic caps on the eaves and side tiebacks, which allow the curtains to be opened without being pulled apart.
Curtains with photo printing
The offspring of innovative technology - super trendy today curtains with 3D printing will be a real find for any bedroom.
They are very widely and varied on the market, but if desired, they can also be ordered in a specialized salon, choosing to apply any pattern from a designer's drawing to a personal photograph.
Photocurtains are best chosen when the interior of the bedroom is already formed. They will emphasize his individuality and become the main focus in him.
The image on the photocurtains does not fade in the sun and does not fade when washed, and only high-quality textiles can become the basis for it.
Photo printing can be applied both to thick curtains made of fabrics such as satin, gabardine, satin, blackout, and to curtains made of translucent fabrics. The fastening of such curtains can be any, including eyelets.
Today, photocurtains are used in all rooms in the house, but they are especially relevant for the bedroom.
Photo printing on fabric can be flat and resemble a picture, or it can be three-dimensional and create the illusion of expanding and deepening space atmosphere conducive to sound and healthy sleep.
Lambrequin
Lambrequin is a horizontal drapery that frames the upper part of the curtains. It does not carry a functional load, but is able to hide small flaws in the window structure, make the bedroom atmosphere even more comfortable and gives it a special charm.
The photo shows a bedroom in a modern style with light curtains and a hard lambrequin.
Initially, lambrequins were sewn only for drapes and curtains and looked about the same. Today they are combined with all types of curtains, even as strict as horizontal plastic blinds.
Modern lambrequins can be conditionally divided into several main types:
- Soft. Drapery, consisting of a single piece of soft fabric or composed of several elements: flip-flops, swags, ties, de-frills, chill molds.
- Rigid (gang). The fabric for the gang is put on a rigid non-woven base, and its lower edge is left straight, cut along an oblique line, in the form of an arch or some specific pattern.
- Openwork. A kind of rigid lambrequin, decorated with a through ornament, cut out over its entire surface using a laser.
- Combined. It combines hard and soft types of lambrequins, alternating in any sequence. For example, when the cornice is covered by a flat strip of hard fabric, and soft draperies hang from its sides.
There are no special restrictions on the combination of curtains and lambrequins. It all depends on the features of their design, interior style and personal preferences.
The only thing to remember is that the lambrequin "eats" the height of the ceiling and should be used with caution in the bedroom, where it is less than 2.5 meters.
Blackout
Blackout curtains are one of the latest trends in the textile market.
Rather than a type of curtain, it is a type of fabric that instantly won over consumers, inspired designers and transformed the traditional idea of what modern bedroom curtains should be.
Blackout fabric is able to almost completely (with an efficiency of up to 90-100%) cut off the light from the street, creating the most favorable conditions for sound sleep in the room.
During the day, these curtains protect the bedroom from bright sunlight, and at night from flickering street lights, car headlights and neon advertising.
This exceptional opacity is due to the chemical structure of the Blackout fibres. They are polyester threads with a satin weave, from which two-layer or three-layer textiles are woven.
The more layers a fabric has, the more light-blocking it is. Despite the increased density and layering, the Blackout fabric is quite thin and drapes well.
This innovative textile comes in a range of weights, opacity, colours, prints, the absence or presence of metallic coatings and backing.
Various models of sliding and lifting curtains are sewn from it, among which you can always find a solution suitable for any particular interior.
Of those that designers recommend for use in the bedroom, we can distinguish classic curtains, as well as Roman blinds and Japanese screen panels.
Advantages of Blackout curtains for the bedroom:
- increased opacity;
- long service life without loss of presentation;
- high heat and sound insulation properties;
- fire resistance;
- easy care;
- variety of models and colors.
Roman Blinds
Roman Blinds are a type of curtain that is very commonly used in the bedroom.
They are strips of fabric, on the wrong side of which rigid horizontal slats are fixed.
When the curtain is lifted, it forms straight, even folds, overlapping each other with a slight overlap. Their length, with rare exceptions, does not fall below the window sill.
Depending on the design, roman blinds are used in a mono version (one wide blind for the whole window) or in a set of two curtains.
One curtain is attached above the window or in the opening, and two are installed directly on the sashes. In order for the curtains to keep their shape and not sag, the fabric for their manufacture must be sufficiently dense.
Most often, heavy wool, muslin, organza, coarse varieties of linen and cotton, taffeta are used for sewing Roman blinds for the bedroom.
The design of these curtains is strict and concise, therefore, in their classic form, they are best suited for bedrooms furnished in the spirit of minimalism or high-tech style, and if they are made of bamboo linen or straw - for a bedroom in Japanese or ecological styles.
But this does not mean that Roman curtains cannot be used in softer and more romantic interiors.
First, they can be made from a fabric with a pattern, such as a flower.
Secondly, they are perfectly combined with other types of curtains: curtains, lambrequin, tulle, muslin.
In these cases, it is enough that the partner curtains match the interior, and the Roman models will provide the room with shading.
The most fashionable combination today is Roman blinds and curtains, made from the same plain fabric in muted natural colors: olive, plum, cherry, coffee.
In this combination, the rigid horizontal folds of Roman blinds are especially effectively combined with vertically elongated draperies on the curtains and look very stylish.
Austrian Curtains
Austrian Curtains is another type of pull-up curtains that is appropriate in the bedroom, just below the window sill. Sometimes they are confused with French and Roman curtains.
They differ from the former by less lush ruffles, collected not along the entire length of the canvas, but only at its base, and from the latter by smoother, softer lines and delicate pastel colors.
In addition, these curtains love curtain decor, and they are often decorated with fringe, bows, ribbons, butterfly and flower clips.
Austrian curtains go well with all types of pelmets and other curtains.
They can be made from a soft but strong fabric and hung together with tulle. In this case, they will play the role of the main curtains, and protect the bedroom from sunlight.
And you can sew "Austrian" from light transparent fabric: tulle, organza, chiffon, veil and combine with thick curtains. In this case, they will perform the function of curtains.
According to designers in 2018, Austrian curtains are the most popular way to decorate windows in interiors made in gentle and romantic styles such as Mediterranean, Italian, Provence, vintage, shabby chic.
Due to the fact that the nature of the "Austrian" is very romantic, in the bedroom the models made of plain fabric with a smooth shiny surface look most impressive: silk, taffeta, cambric, polyester, voile, saturated or pastel colors.
Simple "rustic" fabrics such as chintz, cotton, fine linen with a naive floral print are no less often used for sewing Austrian curtains, but they are more simple in the bedroom and more suitable for the kitchen or nursery.
Kiseya
Thread or muslin curtains came to us from the hot East and are specially designed to create an atmosphere of exquisite relaxing bliss in the room.
They are thick curtains of smooth and dense threads falling in an even waterfall. There are a lot of types of Kisei.
It can be plain and multi-colored, fabric or metallic, simple or complemented with all sorts of solid decorations: beads, sequins, glass beads.
Such a variety of textures and colors allows you to choose the right model of filament curtains for any interior. It is able to harmoniously fit not only into an artsy oriental, romantic European bedroom.
Even an avant-garde hi-tech interior will look complete if you match curtains with threads with metallic inclusions, and kisei made of natural tightly twisted cotton ropes with wooden tubes strung on them will perfectly complement the laconic Japanese style.
Despite the air texture, the thread curtains are able to cut off and scatter the light.
But their light protection is the same as that of tulle or curtains and they are not enough to completely shade the room, so in the bedroom it is customary to use muslin in combination with other thicker curtains.
Kisei is very plastic, it can be easily assembled into the most fancy draperies, but even in a simple, straightened state, it looks no less impressive.
For the bedroom it is better to choose a muslin made of twisted chenille threads in dark saturated colors.
Curtains made of light threads are used in this room only as a decor, over other curtains, as an original canopy on the bed or as a light partition that allows you to separate the sleeping place from the rest of the room.
Benefits of using muslin in the bedroom:
- Filament curtains do not interfere with the natural ventilation of the room.
- With proper selection of colors and textures of threads, as well as the appropriate curtain decor, they can fit into most interior styles.
- Drapes beautifully and goes well with all types of curtains and blinds.
- The length of the kisei can be any, it is easy to change it by simply cutting off the extra centimeters with scissors.
- Thread curtains are multifunctional. I use them not only for windows, but also for dividing a room into zones, and also as a canopy over the bed.
Japanese panels
Japanese screen panels appeared in our interiors not so long ago, but they quickly became popular and are not going to leave the pages of fashion magazines on interior design.
They are even, tightly stretched fabric sheets on thin frames or with the help of a weighting bar.
The average width of canvases is usually 40-60 cm, but on spacious panoramic windows panels with a width of more than a meter can be used.
Screen panels occupy a minimum of space, can be of any length and made of fabrics of different textures and any colors.
The sheets move freely along the paths of the profile cornice, alternating them in different ways, placing them in a row or in parallel, and thereby achieving the most comfortable natural lighting.
On one window, depending on its width, from 3 to 6 panels are used. They can be made from fabrics of different densities and used in the same way as curtains with curtains.
Recently, it is also not forbidden to combine them with other types of curtains, most often with tulle in simple colors and almost without folds.
For the bedroom, Japanese screen curtains are also good because they can serve as doors for wardrobes and light and compact partitions for zoning space.
It's no secret that no matter how quiet and peaceful the atmosphere in this room is, separating the bed from the rest of its space will never be superfluous.
Curtains in a classic style
In terms of color, as well as the texture of the fabric, curtains often echo the bedspread, sofa cushions, upholstery of chairs, flooring and other furnishings. When choosing curtains for a bedroom decorated in a classic style, it is not necessary to be limited to plain models.
Although 2018 fashion does not dictate strict rules, several trends can still be distinguished, for example:
- the color of the curtains should be one tone lighter or one tone darker than the walls or the overall color scheme of the bedroom;
- curtains with an ornament or a pattern will look best against the background of plain walls, echoing the main color with the small interior details that we mentioned earlier;
- lush designs with a lambrequin and two or three types of curtains are more likely not suitable for bedrooms with a lot of items and decor.
Modern classic models are often simplified, approaching the laconic Scandinavian curtains, or become more complex due to the combination of different materials and the use of decorative accessories. Instead of one traditional curtain, you can find two or even three adjacent canvases.
At the same time, patterned or mesh tulle is often the only window decoration. White translucent curtains are particularly versatile. It is always easy to supplement them with pickups, lambrequin, frill, fringe, having achieved the desired result.
Depending on how often you need to open and close the curtains, the most convenient method of fastening is chosen - drawstring, ties, rings with clips.
