Since they don't have a power cord, you don't have to worry about range or managing the cable when you finish cleaning. It delivers superb overall performance on bare floors and low and high-pile carpets, though its strong suction force can make it hard to push around on some rugs. It can automatically adjust its suction power depending on the surface type you're cleaning. It also has a dirt sensor that measures and counts the size of debris sucked into the vacuum, which will be helpful if you want to know about the presence of fine particles in your home. While this vacuum can run for more than 70 minutes of battery life in its most energy-efficient configuration, its runtime drops to a little under 10 minutes when using it in its 'Boost' suction mode, so you need to work quickly when cleaning stubborn debris. It also feels fragile in places, which is disappointing for a vacuum at this price point.If you don't need the Dyson vacuum's automatic surface detection system or particle sensor, the Samsung Jet 90 Complete is a great alternative that delivers similarly strong performance across a wide range of surface types.

Its maximum battery life of about half an hour is considerably shorter than the Dyson V15 Detect, and it's a little heavier. However, it does have a few advantages other than its lower price tag. Chief among those is its superior build quality, with a body made mainly from thick, high-grade plastic that feels sturdier than the thinner material used by the Dyson. The Miele's unique three-in-one design enables you to configure it as a stick, upright, or handheld vacuum, depending on how you arrange its motor unit, wand, and floorhead. Like the Dyson, it has a surface detection system that tweaks its suction power to match the surface that it's on; it can also stop the rotation of its brushroll if something gets tangled within it.Unfortunately, its dustbin is pretty small for a vacuum of this type and will require somewhat frequent emptying. It also has a very small range of included attachments, with only a soft-bristle dusting brush, a straight-suction upholstery tool, and a crevice tool for clearing away debris in tight spots.

If you're looking for something on the more affordable end of things, the Tineco PURE ONE S11 is a great choice.
This cordless stick vacuum has a less powerful suction motor than premium options like the Dyson V15 Detect and doesn't feel as sturdily built as the Miele Triflex HX1. If neither of those things is a big issue, this vacuum is worth considering. Its lightweight construction makes it a cinch to maneuver in cluttered areas. Unusually for a vacuum in this price range, it features a built-in dirt sensor that allows it to raise its suction power when it encounters an area with a lot of debris. You can also pair the vacuum with your smartphone through the Tineco Life app, which lets you adjust its suction power with a virtual slider, check its charge, or verify if its filters need cleaning.This vacuum has a HEPA filter, which is great if you're sensitive to fine allergens, and it doesn't make too much noise while running. There are also quite a few attachments in the box, like a pair of floorheads, one with a soft roller for bare floors and the other with bristles for carpeting. Unfortunately, it takes quite a while to recharge.

The best budget-friendly cordless stick vacuum we've tested is the Wyze Cordless Vacuum.
Unlike the Tineco PURE ONE S11, it doesn't have a built-in dirt sensor that would allow it to automatically adjust its suction power, but it's cheaper and still delivers excellent overall performance. It performs very well on carpets and does a very good job on bare floors, though bulky debris can clog the entry to its dustbin. Unusually for a vacuum at this price point, it offers HEPA filtration and has an LED touchscreen display that lets you change its suction power mode or monitor its battery life. It also comes with a combination upholstery tool/soft-bristle dusting brush and a crevice tool. No turbo brush is in the box, but you can purchase this attachment from the manufacturer.If you're looking for a budget-friendly cordless stick vacuum with a turbo brush included in the box, you could look at the Tineco PURE ONE X. Not only does it feature an additional attachment, but it doesn't struggle with bulky debris and charges faster while offering a longer battery life. However, it's harder to maneuver, has a smaller dirt compartment, and has more parts that need regular cleaning.

If you're looking for a cordless stick vacuum that's lightweight and easy to carry around, the Dyson Omni-glide is worth a look.
Unlike traditional stick vacuums like the Tineco PURE ONE S11, it's meant for relatively short cleaning sessions due to its tiny dirt compartment and short maximum battery life of a little under half an hour. Furthermore, its twin soft-roller floorhead is only for cleaning bare floors. However, it's exceedingly lightweight, and its uniquely-designed floorhead makes it easy to maneuver it in tight spaces.While you can't use it on carpets or rugs, this vacuum does a great job dealing with small debris and pet hair on bare floors and is reasonably effective when sealing in fine allergens. Be careful when cleaning up bulky debris, which can get trapped at its suction inlet.

If you're looking for a cordless stick vacuum that's a good fit for those who suffer from allergies, consider the Roborock H7.
It might feel considerably less durable than the comparably-priced Miele Triflex HX1 and delivers inferior deep cleaning performance, but it does offer a unique advantage. Unlike the Samsung vacuum or many other cordless stick models, you can mount a miniature dirtbag within its dirt compartment, resulting in improved air filtration performance and a much cleaner means of debris disposal. It can also run for more than 90 minutes in its most energy-efficient mode, which gives you plenty of time to deal with lightweight debris. While its runtime drops to a little over 10 minutes in its high-power 'MAX' mode, that's normal for a vacuum of this type.It also delivers impressive performance on bare floors and does a decent job on carpets. That said, it doesn't perform quite as well as the Samsung Bespoke Jet, which is also a fantastic option if you suffer from allergies. You can't configure the Samsung as a bagged vacuum, but it does come with a 'Clean Station' accessory that empties its dustbin when the vacuum is docked without generating a plume of dust.

How we test cordless stick vacuums
Carolyn Forte/Good Housekeeping
No one vacuum is the perfect choice for every cleaning need, so we usually recommend keeping several styles in your cleaning arsenal, and a stick vac should certainly be part of the mix. The GH Cleaning Lab is constantly testing vacuums of all makes and models, and because there are new ones coming to market all the time, we continually update our reviews. Add this to the hundreds of hours we've spent testing uprights, canisters, robots and more, and it's safe to say we know our vacuums.
Since then, we've added even more models to the list.
When we evaluate a stick or any vacuum, we base our tests on ASTM International standard test methods. As members of this voluntary standards-making organization's F11 Vacuum Cleaner Committee, we meet twice yearly with engineers and experts from the industry to discuss, develop and update the vacuum cleaner testing methods we all use. A major part of Good Housekeeping's role on this committee is to make sure these standards are relevant to how everyday consumers actually use vacuum cleaners and their experiences with them. Our stick vacuum testing includes evaluations for:

✔️ Performance: We evaluate how well each vacuum removes "pet hair" by evenly spreading industry-standard rayon fibers that simulate and cling like actual pet hair over the surface of a carpet. Each vacuum is passed over the carpet the same number of times and what's left behind gets scored.
In a similar fashion, we assess how well the vacuum picks up large and fine particles of debris (like rice, dry oatmeal and gritty sand) from hard flooring like vinyl and how closely it cleans along edges. Because these vacuums are getting better at deep cleaning, we're also using our custom-built automated machine to measure how much embedded dirt they remove from plush carpeting.
✔️ Ease of use: Because a vacuum must not only perform well but also make cleaning less of a chore, we weigh how heavy it is and measure the run time for battery-operated models both with and without the attachments. We assess how comfortable it is to hold, how convenient the controls are to access and how easy the dust cup is to clean and empty.
✔️ Sound: We test our models for quietness with the help of Quiet Mark, a global certification organization that aims to reduce noise pollution. They measure the noise output of each model for us.
✔️ Features: We note and test any unique features such as whether or not it has a battery charge indicator, a brush roll control button or extra tools and attachments.
✔️ Consumer experience: Finally, we recruit consumer testers to rate the vacuums’ maneuverability on bare floors and carpets, around corners and under furniture. They also test the ease of removing the dust cup or bag and the ease of operating the vacuums’ controls.

What to look for when shopping for the best cordless stick vacuums
✔️ Corded vs. cordless: Corded vacuums work nonstop so there’s no downtime and no need to recharge the battery. The downside is that you are tethered to an outlet and can only roam as far as the length of a cord. Cordless vacuums run on batteries and today’s lithium-ion batteries have more power and last longer than the nickel-cadmium batteries of older models — some up to as long as 60 minutes.
On some models, the battery pack itself can be removed for charging which allows you to simply plug in only the battery and store the rest of the vacuum out of sight. Keep in mind that manufacturers report battery run time without any attachments, which is, honestly, not how people clean. Once you add the rotating brush or another attachment that requires power, battery run time goes down. Don't be surprised if the battery doesn't last as long when you are cleaning as is claimed on the box.
✔️ Floor type: Stick vacs work best cleaning bare floors, low-pile rugs and surface-cleaning carpets, and those that convert to a hand vac or have hand vacuums on board can also clean upholstery, stairs and even the car. For bigger jobs, like deep cleaning a whole house with multiple rooms, deep-pile carpets, and a mix of hard and soft surfaces, you may prefer a full-size upright or canister vacuum. But a good stick vac can certainly suffice, especially if you are in a hurry.
✔️ Brush roll: A rotating brush roll is important to have to help remove dirt that’s settled down into the tufts of area rugs and carpets. Brush rolls also help collect debris on bare floors but can sometimes cause debris to scatter and should only be used if they're soft enough not to scratch your floors. If you are vacuuming only bare floors, a stick vacuum with a soft, fluffy rotating brush roll is your best bet. Some of the newest stick vacuums, like our LG and Samsung picks, now have power nozzles that combine a rotating brush with a soft roller for a universal head that works on all flooring types.
✔️ Convertibility: Having one vacuum that does double duty is always a bonus. For that reason, virtually all stick vacs can either be converted to a handheld vacuum by popping off the motored top or removing the handle — or they come with a separate handheld unit that snaps directly onto the body of the stick vacuum.
Both the handheld and stick vacuums operate with the same motor, so they charge (and run down) at the same time. The handheld versions are great for cleaning upholstery, stairs, the car and for quickly picking up dry spills off a bare floor.
✔️ Storage space: Because they are slim, stick vacuums take up less storage space than full-size vacuums, but most don’t stand up on their own, especially those with heavy motors on top. For this reason, most come with and snap into charging brackets that you can mount to a wall. Others may have bases that you set the stick vac onto to keep it upright for storage and charging. The newest models have storage systems that even automatically empty the vacuum's dust cup when you place it inside for less mess. Whichever type you choose, we recommend looking for one with a stand that also holds any attachments so everything’s neatly stored in one place. Some come with retractable or foldable handles to take up even less precious closet space.
