Vanity Lighting Fixtures | Bathroom Mirror Lights
The vanity lighting standard keeps getting raised! Every year bathroom design receives more and more attention resulting in the creation of some of the most beautiful bathrooms ever. Our standard for excellence in stylish bathroom lighting design continues to increase and as in most interior design projects, the main light source, as well as accent lighting, is critical to a successful design. As a rule of thumb, quality bathroom vanity lighting needs to balance the need for both good ambient light (general fill-in lighting for visual comfort) and for ample task lighting (adequate lighting for grooming hair, applying make-up, and shaving in the vanity mirror). Over-the-mirror vanity light bars remain one of the mainstays in a successful bathroom lighting package. And for some good news: one of the quickest, easiest and most cost effective ways of updating a bathroom is to update the existing vanity bath bar with some new unique vanity lighting. Visually, these bath lights tend to be the general focal point of the room and hard to miss; therefore, you get maximum credit for the change since everyone will notice the refresh. If it has been a while since you shopped for new bathroom lighting fixtures, or if you’re browsing online for the first time, you may be surprised at the wide variety of stunning modern vanity lighting designs that are out there!

Frequently Asked Questions About Vanity Lights
Before you choose a fixture, consider these frequently-asked questions. You can also consult our guide on How to Find the Best Bathroom Vanity Lighting, which has even more detail, such as a guide to shapes and finishes and tips on coordinating your light fixture and mirror choices.
Are Vanity Lights the Only Type of Bathroom Light?
No—they are just one element of layered bathroom lighting! They are considered task lights, because they illuminate the mirror for grooming. Ambient lighting in bathrooms can come from bathroom ceiling lights or hanging lights such as a bathroom chandelier. In some bathrooms, vanity fixtures may be designed to also function as decorative lights, with an avant-garde fixture design or a beautiful, exposed vanity light bulb.
How Many Vanity Light Bulbs Do I Need?
The number of light bulbs needed in your fixture will depend on the size of the vanity mirror and the overall bathroom light lumens needed in your space. As a rule of thumb, we recommend at least 70 lumens per square foot in a bathroom. Explore our 2-light vanity fixtures for a simplistic design great for half baths, our 3-light vanity fixtures for ample illumination in a mid-sized bathroom, and our 4-to-6 light vanity fixtures for a light source in larger master baths. If your bathroom has a double vanity, you can also choose to mount two fixtures, one over each sink and mirror.
Should Vanity Lights Be Up or Down?
The most traditional placement for a vanity light fixture is hanging horizontally above the vanity mirror. However, narrower mirrors can often be lit vertically, with two bathroom sconces hanging about 28” apart on either side. When choosing vertical vs. horizontal vanity lighting, your main goal should be to light the face evenly and eliminate any shadows that might get in the way of your mirror tasks.
What is the Best Light for Makeup?
Natural daylight is the best makeup lighting, so take advantage of windows and skylights when possible. If that is not possible in your space, or you want an alternative for makeup application at different times of day, LED fixtures or vanity bulbs without any colored tint is the next best option.
Cosmetologists will most often source professional-grade makeup lighting, including makeup mirrors with light bulbs embedded into the mirror. While we do not carry professional-grade makeup lighting in our collection, daily makeup wearers and makeup hobbyists can find what they need on our site!
Where Can I find Energy-Efficient LED Vanity Lights?
If energy-efficient lighting in your vanity area is your top priority, consider a fixture with easily interchangeable bulbs. With the quick addition of an LED light bulb, most of our fixtures can become LED vanity lights. Simply consult the product’s maximum wattage and bulb fitting details, available in the product’s description, to find the right bathroom light bulb for your fixture. You may also want to browse our collection of bath strips with built-in LEDs.Top of Page

California Residents See PROP 65 WARNINGS
⚠️ WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including: lead which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov
The warning listed on our website is in accordance with a law implemented by the state of California called Proposition-65. Under this regulation, California law requires businesses to provide warnings for products containing chemicals that the state of California has identified as carcinogens or reproductive toxins. Recent amendments to this law require any retailers selling to California residents to list this warning on their website.
There are currently almost 1,000 substances on the Proposition-65 list, ranging from cigarette smoke and asbestos to aspirin and wood dust. One of the materials listed is lead, and because most light fixtures contain brass in the sockets or in the frames of the shades, we are required to put this warning label on our light fixtures. Brass is a metal alloy consisting of copper, zinc and small amounts of lead, which is what triggers the “lead” warning under California Proposition-65 since lead has been shown to cause cancer when it is ingested.
We hope that this explains things a little more clearly. If you have any additional questions, we would suggest visiting the website mentioned above for more information and the complete list of substances that require warnings under Proposition-65.

Top of PageProper arrangement of lighting on the dressing table is the key to a successful make-up - Svetilnikof
Dressing table is a piece of furniture that every woman dreams of and needs, paying due attention to the care of her own appearance. It is not only functional, but also looks great in the bedroom, bringing a subtle feminine vibe to the interior.
Contents:
- Dressing table daylight
- How to plan your vanity lighting?
- The right choice for style
In order for a dressing table to fulfill its function, and not just a place to store cosmetics and jewelry, it must be properly lit. To create the perfect makeup, in addition to quality products, you also need uniform, strong and unshaded lighting for the dressing table. In this article, we tell you how to choose lamps for your dressing table so that it can be used in personal care and beauty.
Dressing table daylight
Naturally, this is the best option, so make the most of the effect of daylight by placing your dressing table near a window. Placement of furniture "back" will allow natural light to evenly illuminate the face and neck. An equally successful solution is to install a dressing table "facing" to the window so that the light reflects off the mirror and then falls on your face.
Due to the limited amount of space, however, not every room allows the free placement of a dressing table. Sometimes using the space around the window is not possible and the vanity needs to be placed in a darker area. In addition, even with the right position by the window, you often have to use the artificial lighting of the dressing table. Indeed, in winter, when the morning resembles a dark night, morning makeup has to be applied with the help of artificial light.
The choice and installation of artificial lighting for the dressing table depends on the nature of the furniture - whether it is a complete piece of furniture with a mirror or a table with a larger or smaller mirror standing alone. When planning your lighting, it's also important to keep electrical outlets organized.
How do you plan your vanity lighting?
- Dressing table lighting is usually planned in the same way as bathroom mirror lighting. In both cases, two lamps on either side of the mirror, positioned at the height of the person using the mirror, work well. Dressing table with lamps is usually used while sitting, so the optimal height for lamps is 110-120 cm from the floor.
- If you will be applying makeup while standing, the vanity light should be positioned about 160 cm from the floor. The distance between the lamps should be about 75 cm - this will give a uniform distribution of light fluxes, eliminate shadows and refractions. Wall lamps, pendant lamps, floor lamps or stylish linear lamps can be placed on the sides of the mirror.
- A lamp located just above the mirror is also a good solution - it will even be needed if the distance between the vanity sconces located on both sides of the mirror exceeds 100 cm. However, it should be chosen so that the light does not dazzle a person. First of all, you should choose lampshades made of milky glass or plastic or frames with lampshades in bright colors. Track lights or a long fluorescent tube will also do the trick. If it is not possible to place lamps around a mirror, spotlights mounted on the ceiling will also work. The best solution would be to buy dressing table lamps with the ability to adjust the direction of the light flux - it is best to position them so that the light reflected from the mirror falls on your face.
- When planning lighting, we recommend taking into account not only the location of the respective lamps, but also the type of lighting. The light color should be closest to 5000-6500K and the Ra color rendering index should be at least 80 percent. The information provided should be found on the packaging of the fixtures. It is worth knowing that the higher the color rendering index, the better the colors will be displayed, and therefore all the details during the makeup will be well lit.
The right choice for style
Manufacturers offer many types of lamps that can be used as vanity lighting. It is worth knowing that also some furniture is already equipped with both a mirror and lighting. However, in the case of a dressing table without lighting, or even a mirror, you might consider buying a mirror with built-in lighting, such as in the form of LED lamps. Such a mirror can simply be placed on the dressing table or hung on the wall above the furniture. Of course, you can choose a regular mirror and plan lighting points above or around it. With furniture placed in a modern room or bedroom, minimalistic glass and metal wall lights will look good.
Whether in a cozy rustic or trendy Scandinavian interior, the dressing table can be complemented by sconces with traditional lampshades in bright colors or lamps with milk glass lampshades. If the interior is designed in a loft style, then black metal vanity sconces with a truly designer character will be the perfect accent. Good reviews are given to models with long adjustable arms that allow you to set the direction of the light as you like. On both sides of the mirror near the dressing table in a glamorous interior, light strips with light bulbs that resemble models used in theater cabinets will look good. This original and highly functional solution can also be used around a mirror on three sides.
Daily beauty care with an impressive and elegant dressing table can be a real pleasure. Knowing the tricks that will help you get the best lighting effect, we will be able to make the perfect makeup.
4 Ways to Light Your Dressing Table
Dressing table lighting must be chosen correctly to perform its function. One ceiling lamp is not enough - the diffused light will be too weak for a perfect make-up. What lighting for the dressing table to choose so that it is not only practical, but also looks stylish and complements the composition?
Vanity lighting - what to keep in mind?
How to light up a dressing table? First of all, remember the color of the light. A lamp that emits light similar to daylight is best suited - this color is best for makeup. This means that you should choose bulbs with a cool color of approximately 5000-6500 K and a color rendering index Ra of at least 80%. The lamps should be at the level of the face of the person sitting in front of the mirror, so the overhead lighting above the dressing table in this case will not work at all. Makeup lamps that illuminate the dressing table should be placed around the mirror or parallel on either side of it.
Hollywood style vanity lighting
Dressing table lamps, taken from a Hollywood wardrobe, will make you feel like a real star in your own bedroom. You probably already know what kind of lamps we are talking about - Hollywood style dressing table lighting consists of round bulbs that are placed around the mirror, for example, on its frame. If you want to get this effect, you can choose:0008
Dressing table with this backlight is perfect for rooms decorated in a glamorous, classic or Hampton style.
Modern Vanity LED Lighting
If you are looking for a more modern mirror lighting, you can opt for a simple but very effective lighting in the form of a delicate frame around the mirror. This is a more subtle and discreet type of lighting than Hollywood lamps, while still doing its job well. Having decided on this type of lighting, you can immediately buy a mirror with a built-in lamp (if you are looking for more ideas on how to use a mirror in the bedroom, check out our article Bedroom Mirror - 5 ideas for decorating a bedroom with a mirror) or buy special tape. or LED strip for the dressing table.
This type of LED lighting is very versatile and will suit any interior. Use this vanity light for a contemporary, Scandinavian, classic or industrial look.
Vanity Wall Lights
A very popular and frequently used solution is the vanity sconce, that is, a sconce suspended at the height of a mirror. This arrangement of light sources ensures that the face will be lit neatly and evenly, and makeup will look good not only at home, but also in full sun.
Which sconces to choose? Bet on those that will give a lot of light - those with thick lampshades that give a romantic cozy light, leave, for example, in the living room. The light at the dressing table should be bright and intense enough. What do bras look like? Here you can go crazy at will. If your interior is designed in an industrial style, choose black lamps with bare bulbs. If you prefer a glamorous style, hang gold sparkling crystals. Have you decorated your bedroom in Scandinavian style? Opt for lamps made from natural materials such as wood or wicker.
Dressing table lighting with floor lamp.
A slightly less common solution, but also very practical and effective, is to place two lamps on either side of the dressing table. There is one condition - the lamps must be of the appropriate height so that the light source is at the height of the mirror. You can also choose height-adjustable models so you can easily adjust the lighting to suit your needs.
Which of our vanity lighting ideas do you like? If you are still wondering whether to organize a dressing table in the bedroom or to abandon this piece of furniture, the answer is one - organize! Applying makeup with beautiful furniture, a large mirror, and good lighting (and good coffee on hand) is pure pleasure.
