10 materials, looks and design tricks |

Stove backsplash ideas with style turn a functional feature into a chic one. Whether attention-grabbing because of its material, color, pattern, or texture, or a more understated design, a backsplash can be a beautiful part of the kitchen.

Of course, it’s a hardworking feature, too, protecting walls from splatters, splashes, and grease as you cook, so it’s imperative that a backsplash is easy to clean to make keeping the room pristine an easy task.

Considering the stove backsplash should always be part of your kitchen ideas in order to select a harmonious palette of colors and materials for the room, and we’ve gathered suggestions to inspire you here.

Stove backsplash ideas

The kitchen is a busy space, so stove backsplash ideas must be quick and easy to maintain, resist staining, and keep their good looks after being exposed to splatters, grease, and steam. Be inspired by these examples and draw on the expertise of designers in selecting your kitchen backsplash ideas.

1. Create natural shine

(Image credit: K Kong Design Photograph: Mali Azima)

A backsplash can be a striking feature even in subtle neutral color tones and with gentle shine.

‘These kitchen wall tile ideas are wonderfully unexpected,’ explains Kristin Kong of K Kong Design . ‘They look like capiz shells but are back-painted glass. While it would never be practical to use real shells behind a range, these tiles provide the same look with all of the functionality and durability needed in a busy kitchen.’

2. Turn up the volume on color

The limited area of a stove backsplash makes it the spot to choose for a bolder version of kitchen color ideas you’ve used elsewhere in the room. Here, it’s a beautiful lime that draws the eye against a backdrop of cabinets painted in a nature-inspired take on green.

Select a tile with variations of tone like this one and the backsplash will be an even more arresting feature. This tile includes yellower tones alongside the lime hues.

3. Opt for industrial style

Consider taking your cue from the detail of your appliance as part of your stove backsplash ideas. The metal trim of this iconic design is complemented by a metallic-effect backsplash that repeats its tones.

These tiles aren't actually metal backsplash ideas – in fact, they are porcelain tiles, which is a highly durable option. They’re stain and moisture resistant, and easy to clean.

4. Scale down for standout

(Image credit: JL Design Photograph: Leslee Mitchell)

Even in a room with an extensive tile backsplash, think about choosing a different design for the area behind the stove to distinguish this zone of the kitchen. In this kitchen the wall white kitchen backsplash idea is contrasted with the smaller scale backsplash above the stove, which features a range of neutral tones that complement the statement hood.

The change from the horizontal lines of the white tile wall to the verticals of the stove backsplash make it distinct, too.

5. Make maintenance simple

(Image credit: Mark Williams Design Photograph: Sarah Dorio)

In selecting stove backsplash ideas, it’s worth considering how much time will need to be spent on maintaining the appearance of the kitchen.

‘We like to use solid surface materials as a backsplash behind a stove because grout lines in a tile backsplash can sometimes be hard to keep clean,’ say Mark Williams and Niki Papadopoulos of Mark Williams Design .

‘In this kitchen, we used the same natural stone for the stove backsplash that we used for the countertops. Because the stove backsplash is so large and prominent in how we see our kitchens, using a beautiful material can add immediate luxury and sophistication.’

6. Give it a modern edge with stainless steel

Whatever the style of your kitchen, stainless steel is worth listing as part of your stove backsplash ideas. It’ll suit a chef’s style kitchen with an industrial aesthetic, but it could equally bring a modern edge to a room with traditional style, and its soft color can blend beautifully into a room with white cabinets and a wood floor.

It’s also a practical choice as a stove backsplash as it’s hygienic, simple to maintain, and hard wearing.

7. Opt for luxury

(Image credit: Kara Adam Interiors Photograph: Michael Hunter)

Marble’s a desirable kitchen material and using it as a stove backsplash can create a look of luxury in the kitchen.

‘In my old home, I wanted a white marble kitchen,’ says Kara Adam of Kara Adam Interiors . ‘I chose white marble slabs for my island and backsplash, and a Caesarstone for the peninsula (there isn’t a marble slab big enough for that peninsula). By using white marble on the backsplash, you can give the illusion of an all marble kitchen, even if other white materials are used.’

8. Add an accent color

(Image credit: Morse Design Photograph: Tara Carter)

Looking for stove splashback ideas that will prove a sound choice for any kitchen? ‘Keeping your backsplash simple will make the kitchen look and feel cohesive, regardless of size,’ says Andi Morse, founder and principal designer of Morse Design . ‘A simple subway tile always works, but I recommend changing up the color to instantly elevate and impact your space.’

9. Play with pattern

(Image credit: Living with Lolo Photograph: Life Created)

In a kitchen with white cabinets and light-toned wood, stove backsplash ideas that add to the room’s subtle detail are required. The solution in this room is a design with elegant geometric pattern that catches the eye and adds interest without becoming overpowering.

Follow this room’s lead by extending the backsplash from the stove area to the entire run of cabinets to allow a motif like this to make an impact.

10. Showcase organic pattern

(Image credit: Maestri Studio Photograph: Jenifer McNeil Baker)

The veining of natural stone – and stone lookalikes such as quartz – are fabulous for countertops, but make even more of an impression when they’re used vertically as a stove backsplash.

If using natural stone, make sure that it is correctly sealed to avoid the possibility of staining which will compromise the look of the material.

Do I need a backsplash behind the stove?

A backsplash behind the stove is necessary to prevent the wall becoming marked, stained, or discolored by splatters and grease. It will also protect it from moisture. A backsplash also ensures that when a cooktop is set into a counter there’s no gap between the wall and cabinets below that could allow water to drip downwards.

If you have a freestanding range rather than a cooktop, there will be a small gap between the range and the backsplash. In this case, it’s worth installing a backsplash down the wall a little to avoid any visible wall surface.

What is a timeless stove backsplash?

A tile backsplash is a timeless choice for a kitchen. Subway tile is classic, but consider, too, square tile which has enduring style. As for tile options, both ceramic and porcelain are possibilities, but equally timeless are marble or slate mosaic; the former will create a more opulent effect, while slate might suit a more country style room.

9 ideas for decorating a kitchen backsplash — INMYROOM

Who said that tiles are an indispensable material for a kitchen backsplash? Russian designers clearly demonstrate that there are worthy, stylish and practical alternatives. We have collected 9 ideas and 23 examples for you, proving that there is definitely a replacement for the familiar (and rather boring!) Tiles.

1. Slate paint

An idea for creative people that adds new functionality to the backsplash. Recipes, messages to household members, drawings - slate paint opens up scope for practical (and not only) use. In addition, this coating is quite easy to maintain.

Design: Elena Ivashkina

2. Brick

The popularity of industrial aesthetics and the loft style has made brick and its imitations a common finishing material. Such an apron is a bold, bright solution, but in the area of \u200b\u200bthe stove and sink it is still worth combining it with tempered glass, otherwise it may be difficult to keep the kitchen clean.

Design: Anastasia Mestyakova

Design: Artemy Saranin

3. Wallpaper

It would seem that not the most practical and obvious solution for a kitchen backsplash. However, in combination with glass, this finish becomes original, functional - and opens up space for new design solutions.

Design: Natalia Sytenkova

Design: Anna Clark

4. Mosaic

An equivalent replacement for those who are not ready to move too far away from the tiled backsplash. Mosaic is a less hackneyed finish option, but just as practical. And although the final price of such an apron will be higher compared to tiles, the result will please you with sophistication and sophistication.

5. Wood

Modern advances in the chemical and construction industries make it possible to endow natural wood, beloved by many, with a variety of properties. This material can be made moisture resistant, resistant to insect damage, and even heat resistant to a certain extent.

It is not surprising that bathtubs, sinks and, of course, kitchen backsplashes are already made of wood. And in combination with tempered glass, such a coating is not at all scary.

Design: Daria Chaplygina, Yulia Pekker, Juicy Hall Studio

A wide variety of wood is used for the kitchen backsplash: veneer, wooden lining, special wall panels. The material goes well with many others, adds natural charm to the interior of the kitchen, harmoniously fits into most styles.

Design: Ilya Bokarev

Design: Elena Bulagina

To create a certain mood in the interior, you can use vintage or artificially aged wood, old barn boards for an apron.

Design: Roman Plyusnin

6. Concrete

A solution that attracts with its efficiency and brutality. A concrete apron can be coated with a moisture-resistant primer, covered with glass, and a pattern applied to the wall.

7. Stone

An option that is significantly superior to the tile backsplash in practicality and decorative properties, but rather expensive. Especially if you use natural material, slabs, stone veneer.

Design: Marcel Kadyrov

One of the most common types of stone backsplash is marble - a high-status material with a pronounced recognizable texture.

Design: Aiya Lisova

Design: Olga Legoshina, FB Interiors

Lately, many people have turned their attention to travertine: it has captivated the audience with its stylish decorative texture, variety of colors and all the main advantages of natural stone. Minus - the high price of the material.

Design: architectural bureau ODS LAB

For lovers of everything durable, expensive, status, an apron made of quartzite is suitable. This strong and durable rock is distinguished by outstanding decorative qualities, amazing durability and - alas and ah! - impressive value.

Design: Tatyana Alenina

Design: Margarita Rasskazova

8. Glass

Tempered glass does not have to be combined with other materials: it can be an excellent replacement for the usual tile backsplash. A variety of colors, matte and glossy options, and, of course, the above-mentioned ability to combine with a host of other coatings make such an apron an almost ideal and versatile solution.

Design: Galina Arabskaya

Design: CO:interior

9. Metal

Heat-resistant, moisture-resistant, not too difficult to clean - it seems that metal can be called an incredibly practical replacement for a tile backsplash. Minus - alas, not in every interior stylistically such a coating would be appropriate. In addition, the choice is limited to stainless or appropriately treated metals.

The apron is made of raw metal with a rough black finish. Design: Konstantin Radulov

6 unusual solutions for decorating a kitchen apron

An apron can become an accent element of the kitchen - we think that this is no longer a secret for anyone. But what accent - depends on the designer or the owner of the apartment, who creates his own interior. If you don’t want standard options, look at the examples from our selection - they are amazing.

1 Fireplace stoves

In this example, the designers used old fireplace stoves (the photo gallery even shows what they looked like) for the wall above the kitchen stove! As the authors of the project write in their blog, these plates once belonged to the hostess's father - and she had no idea what could be done with them. And now they decorate her kitchen and are the centerpiece of it! Handsomely? Undoubtedly. Is it practical? And this is a moot point. Metal, of course, is not afraid of either water or heat, but washing plates with a convex pattern from possible fat is unlikely to be easy.

2 Tiles with cut rounded edges

The combination of practicality and wow effect is an example of this kitchen. The tile on the wall above the work surface, whatever one may say, remains one of the most affordable and practical materials in decoration, and white tile is a universal solution that can be used in combination with any countertop and facade color.

Added a surprise effect here by laying tiles on both sides and rounding the edges of the backsplash. In combination with a burgundy wall, shelves and cabinets with right angles, such a solution looks especially unusual.

3 Handmade tile pattern

This apron is on the verge of tasteless design and unusual solution. The main thing is to choose the appropriate frame and maintain the mood of the interior. In the modern minimalism of a city apartment, he will not “play”, but in boho or country, especially in a country house, he can become a key accent. Here, details for ceramic drawings were made by hand - plants against the background of plain tiles.

4 Pixel-like multi-colored tile pattern

A bright solution was proposed in the interior of this kitchen - multi-colored tiles of the same size are combined into a pattern throughout the wall of the kitchen backsplash. Due to the shape of ceramics - small squares - and the way of laying, an association with pixels is created.

The authors of the project themselves write that the interior is made with a reference to the eclecticism of the 70s. Well, they managed to recreate those associations: bright colors, textures, large round handles that look contrast against the background of light facades, terrazzo on the table top and a fantasy lampshade over the dining table.

5 Patterned MDF

The wall above the worktop in this kitchen looks very graphic - but the wow effect is in this graphic. The author of the project used light MDF panels with milling of lines folded into a geometric pattern, painted them with white paint, and highlighted the furrows with an accent orange tint. In combination with the dusty green colors of the facades, the accent looks harmonious.
