7 White Cabinets With Black Countertops Ideas

When choosing a cabinet and countertop combination for your kitchen, it can be hard to decide what will be your best selection. Popular kitchen styles come and go, and although decor can change, cabinets and countertops are on the more complicated and expensive end of the redesign. If you want a kitchen that can change with the ebb and flow of trends, choosing a combo that's timeless will give you the best canvas to style around.

White Cabinets With Black Countertops Ideas

White cabinets create a bright and open space. Their coloring is classic but also timeless. You can't go wrong with the crisp and clean feeling they give to your kitchen.

Black countertops are practical in that they don't easily show mess or stains. They are suited for most color palettes and look gorgeous when paired with any color or style of appliances.

When combined, white cabinets and black countertops create contrast in a kitchen. The white cabinets brighten up the darker countertops and the black counters create definition and depth in your design. This combination can fit any design style, from rustic to modern to industrial and everything in between. Let's take a look at ways to build around your countertops and cabinets to make the most of this color combination.

1. Retro Color Pallete

Adding red to your white and black color palette is a way to spice up your kitchen. Not only is this color combination bold and dynamic, but it's also a classic. Adding a red backsplash can be modern when paired with bright stainless steel appliances. Or it can take on a retro diner-style for a bit of fun, especially when paired with a black and white checked floor.

Worried your backsplash won't be as everlasting as your white cabinets and black countertops? Peel and stick removable tiles are perfect for keeping up with the ever-changing fads.

2. Warm and Inviting

Black and white kitchens don't have to feel boring and sterile. If you want a warmer look for a more traditional kitchen, you can start by choosing a matte white paint for your cabinets. Shiny black counters look bright and clean, but when combined with a shiny cabinet finish, it can be too modern. Using a matte white, or even off-white will balance the look of the black countertops.

Adding greenery and warm-toned painted walls will also make the room feel more welcoming for guests.

3. Sleek and Modern

Unlike the previous picture, if you want a sleek and modern design, then glossy cabinets and countertops are right on-trend. This finish is ideal for smaller kitchens as it reflects light and makes the room appear larger.

This contemporary kitchen uses stainless accents in the cabinet hardware and countertop items adding to the streamlined modern design.

4. Perfect Details

Focusing on the small details can take your kitchen to a whole new level. Choosing unique cabinet handles, fun accent colors, or unique pictures for your kitchen are all ways to add character through subtle details.

This kitchen boasts of small details with a modern vintage oven and range in black with copper accents. It's a beautiful design element that will set your kitchen apart. And don't forget matching appliances to tie the kitchen together.

Click here to see this product on Amazon.

5. Add Some Color

White cabinets and black countertops create the perfect blank slate for all of your design ideas. Adding bright and interesting pops of color will create depth to the kitchen and highlight your favorite accent pieces.

Choosing a soft blue backsplash like this kitchen adds a calming element to an otherwise stark kitchen. This shade of blue also imitates the look of the glass on the upper cabinets, tying it all together. You can also add these pops of color in the form of rugs, decorative vases, or canisters.

Click here to view this product on Amazon.

6. Color Block

This kitchen uses color blocking with an added twist. The wooden texture added to the upper area of the wall, where cabinets sit, creates a more intricate design element. The top of the wall is white and could have easily extended down to where the wall meets the counter, causing the cabinets and wall to blend in. However, this blocking allows the cabinets to stand out and makes the kitchen look taller.

Another way this kitchen is made to look taller is by extending the color of the countertops up to the wood color block. This blurs the lines of where the wall and countertop end and begin, making the space appear much bigger.

7. Industrial Details

Industrial style kitchens are a popular trend right now. Using bare bone elements, like exposed wood, metals, and neutrals, makes up this industrial feel. Lines are clean, functions are clear, and you're able to create an interesting yet simplified space.

This kitchen appears simple apart from the star elements. The pendant light fixtures take on the exposed metal look, and the bar stools are metal and polished wood. In this instance, the white cabinets and black countertops are merely a canvas for the design to play on.

How to choose the color of the worktop: the best color combinations

10/22/2020

When you have decided on the design of kitchen cabinets, it's time to choose a countertop. It should be not only functional, but also beautiful, and also be combined in color with other elements. Do you think it is difficult to choose the perfect option without a designer? With our guide you will cope for sure.

The color palette and design of the worktop depends largely on the material you choose. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages - we advise you to carefully consider them before buying.

1. Chipboard

Chipboard tops are the most popular and widespread. Customers choose them for an affordable price and a wide choice of designs and shades. This countertop is a chipboard coated with plastic. The decorative layer can be absolutely anything:

  • wood effect in all shades;

  • light, dark and red stone effect;

  • for tiles or mosaics;

  • black and white plain

  • in red, blue, yellow and other colors you like. Thanks to this, a chipboard worktop can be used in a kitchen of any color and style.

2. Wood

Wood top looks very noble, pleasant to the touch, but limited in color palette. Shades range from light beige to deep brown. Choose a wooden countertop if it suits the style of your kitchen - for example, Scandinavian style, Provence, country.

3. Natural stone

Stone countertop is one of the most expensive and capricious options. But this material is unique - the pattern on the countertop will not be repeated anywhere else. Color depends on the type of stone:

  • granite can be gray, white with patches, reddish, bluish-green;

  • marble is found in white with various forms of veining, grey, red, brown, yellow;

  • predominantly cream, yellow, orange onyx. Natural stone countertops are most often used to design kitchens in a traditional or modern classic style. This material is also suitable for modern laconic kitchen sets, where the countertop plays the role of an accent.

4. Artificial stone

Artificial stone can be of several types depending on the production technology and material. Do you want an option that is as close to natural as possible? Choose quartz agglomerate - it repeats all possible shades of natural stone. These are cream tones with veins and splashes of gray and brown, brown slabs of different tones, black slabs with veins of different thicknesses or without them at all.

Acrylic stone also mimics the texture of natural stone, but also available in other colors such as rich reds, greens and blues. Manufacturers offer many interesting countertops in a uniform, dense color - from gray and black to pink and yellow. These countertops are versatile and will fit into any kitchen. Do you like experiments and non-standard solutions? Do you want to surprise your guests with a spectacular design? Then this is your option.

How to choose the color of the worktop for the kitchen

Imagine your ideal kitchen: what color of fronts do you like, what style and design? Choose a countertop that will look harmonious in your imaginary interior.

White kitchen set

If you don't have the task of creating a completely white monochrome (well, what if?), choose a table top in a darker or contrasting color. Beige, light brown, gray surfaces look great.

Contrasting black countertop will look very impressive: emphasize it with black fittings - it will be a bomb! For a modern kitchen, consider the option of a colored countertop: white facades in this regard are universal and will be combined with any color.

Black or dark gray kitchen

The combination of dark facades with warm wood shades looks interesting. They add coziness to the strict design of the headset.

Brown kitchen

The wooden fronts of the kitchen are rather dark by themselves. We advise you to pay attention to the cream or beige countertop, plain or with minimal inclusions, so that the set does not look too colorful.

Cream kitchen

Cream and ivory fronts are most often used in classic kitchens. As a countertop, a slab of natural stone - a light, beige color - will fit perfectly here. A darker version of the stone is also possible if you want to play on contrasts.

Two-tone set

Kitchens that consist of cabinets in two colors are at the peak of popularity today. Our advice: choose a countertop to match the color of the bottom of the headset. Thus, the line of the countertop will not cut the kitchen into two parts. Another option is to extend the material of the work surface higher on the backsplash and make them the same color as the upper cabinets. Get effective.

Blue kitchen

Another popular color for sets is blue. Did you decide to stay there too? Pair a white or light gray countertop with a minimal amount of inclusions: together with a matching kitchen apron, it will look very stylish. Another great combination is the blue fronts and brown wood countertops.

Gray kitchen set

For gray fronts we recommend black, gray or white worktops. To prevent the headset from looking boring, bet on a canvas that imitates the pattern of natural stone or bright wood. For a gray kitchen, you can consider the option of a colored countertop - for example, yellow - a non-standard solution that will definitely not go unnoticed.

Color of the table, floor, backsplash, sink and countertop

In an ideal kitchen, the worktop is combined not only with kitchen fronts, but also with other elements of the set - backsplash and sink. Our designers advise you to always check how the materials for the countertop and backsplash look together in order to achieve a harmonious combination of shades. Otherwise, it is likely that you will take a warmer, lighter countertop to the snow-white tiled apron of a cold tone, which will always look dirty against its background. Agree, this is a dubious pleasure.

A great option is when the countertop and backsplash are of the same tone or similar colors. If you made an apron from tiles with a pattern, you can choose a plain tabletop in the color of one or another element. The most win-win option is to use the same material for the backsplash and countertops - the elements will be 100% combined.

Choose your sink based on the color of the countertop, not the other way around. In some cases, you can make an integrated sink - it will not stand out. On a light countertop, we recommend installing a sink in a tone or a little darker, on a dark one - a stainless steel or black sink, depending on the material of the faucets and fittings.

Remember to also look at the floor. What for? So that the shade of the flooring, especially if it is a wood effect tile or laminate, is combined with the tone of the wooden countertop.

The same applies to the dining table, if it is located next to the headset. Bet on materials of similar color and texture - so you get a kitchen interior that will please the eye for a long time.

White kitchen with black worktop - which walls to choose?

White or black walls?

The basis for a white kitchen with black worktops is the color of the walls. Obviously, they will be the backdrop for the entire interior. And how the furniture will look depends on their color. The easiest option is to paint the walls white. This is a classic and obvious solution, maybe a little banal, but it has its advantages. The combination of white walls with white cabinets will create an attractive whole, bring freshness and lightness to the room. If the kitchen is not too big, she will make it spacious, if it has little natural light, she will brighten it up.

Black walls are an alternative and much bolder option. They will contrast intensely with white furniture. They will make cabinets more expressive, and their style and texture will become much more noticeable. Black walls will give the interior a decisive importance, so they will work well in masculine apartments, the owners of which like minimalism or want to emphasize their strong character. But be careful: black is tricky. It will not look very good in small kitchens where there is not enough natural light. The dark color of the walls will optically reduce them or make the interior even more gloomy.

Painting or ceramic tiles?

Play with textures and patterns when decorating the walls of a white kitchen. If we like the industrial style, you can try leaving the bricks and painting them black or white. If you prefer a smooth surface, you can use stencils to decorate your walls. For example, stencils for applying subtle patterns in the form of flowers or flying birds.

Ceramic tiles also offer many possibilities. It is best to use a small tile, it can be used to create black and white patterns. Of course, all walls can be covered with such a mosaic. However, it is better to place a separate composition only on the selected area. It can be one wall or, for example, a place just above the sink or stove. Let it be of practical importance - the tile will facilitate cleaning, but at the same time create an interesting aesthetic effect.

Mirrored silver tiles are perfect for a glamorous kitchen. Natural stone is also a great way to add variety to a kitchen and give it an elegant touch. And of course, black marble is beyond competition. White kitchen with black countertops, what else could walls be? If we like original solutions, then one of the walls can be painted in a completely different color. In this case, it is desirable to use a muted color, for example, gray or blue. But a bold decision would be to do the opposite and experiment with rich and predatory colors - yellow or even red.

What is the floor in a white kitchen with a black worktop?

When it comes to flooring, the first thing you need to do is choose the material for the cladding. In the kitchen, of course, tiles will be the most practical, but nothing stops us from using panels or boards, especially when we have a kitchenette open to the living and dining areas. As with the walls for the floor, the first thing that comes to mind is white. A white floor combined with white furniture and white walls will create a stunning effect. If we light the room well, then all this will acquire an incredible lightness and unusual charm. On the other hand, a black floor will add seriousness and grandeur to the interior. Instead of solid black, we can opt for wood or marble flooring, which will give the kitchen even more elegance. In the case of tiles, a black and white checkerboard will look great, balancing the combination of white furniture and walls with a black countertop.

When it comes to flooring, we don't have to limit ourselves to just black and white. Using natural wood colors is a great solution. Light and golden brown are especially suitable for small kitchens. They will warm and relax the room, give it unpretentiousness with a touch of calm and ease. Dark brown tones, on the other hand, will give the interior chic, solemnity and dignity. And also create a beautiful contrast with snow-white cabinets. However, in this case, it should be remembered that dark colors optically reduce the room, so this type of floor will look best in a fairly spacious kitchen. If we have a kitchen corner, a table and chairs located in the dining area, we can put on a small carpet in a contrasting color or in harmony with the floor.

White kitchen, black worktop... and what accessories?

In a black-and-white kitchen, accessories should emphasize the noble simplicity of this combination. Therefore, the most obvious color for trinkets would be black, white and gray, as well as silver and gold. Decorative items can be solid colors or patterned - a checkerboard motif or a bolder zebra stripe pattern will do. You should also try checkerboard, polka dots, or minimalist images of birds and plants.

You can use one type of pattern. And also experiment with more of them, but know the measure. After all, the interior in black and white is a kind of asceticism. Accessories must be extremely balanced and carefully chosen. In addition to the necessary kitchen utensils, it is worth putting: a flower vase, a fruit bowl, a few pictures on the walls or a couple of decorative chair cushions. Less is better. In a white kitchen with black countertops, wood or clear glass trinkets will also work well.

Furniture and household appliances - accessories?

In addition to decor, chairs, stools and armchairs can also be considered. To liven up the look of a black and white kitchen a little, you can opt for them in contrasting colors. Gray and brown chairs will look good, and you can also choose yellow, red or blue seats - they will bring extra energy to a subdued interior. If you are a fan of glamorous style, you can choose furniture with elegant metal elements in silver or gold.

Home appliances can also be considered as accessories.
