With 2023 just a few short months away, designers and interior decorators are already gearing up for the trends the New Year will bring. And when it comes to kitchen design, we can expect big things. From enhanced technology to bold colors and more multifunctional spaces, 2023 will be all about increasing convenience, comfort, and personal style in the kitchen. Here are 6 kitchen design trends that will be big in 2023, according to experts.

The Color Trends Designers Can't Wait to See in 2023

Smart Technology

As technology continues to advance, the use of smart technology in the kitchen is expected to increase. This includes appliances that are connected to your wifi and can be controlled by your smartphone, voice-activated appliances, smart touchless faucets, and more. Smart kitchens aren’t just convenient, but they help to save on time and energy–with most smart appliances being more energy-efficient than their traditional counterparts.

Butler’s Pantries

Sometimes referred to as a scullery, working pantry, or functional pantry, butler’s pantries are on the rise and expected to be popular in 2023. They can act as additional storage space for food, a dedicated food prep space, a hidden coffee bar, and so much more. David Kallie, president and CEO of Dimension Inc., a home design, build, and remodeling firm based out of Wisconsin, says that in particular, he expects to see more concealed or secret butler’s pantries in the near future. “Customizable appliances that perfectly mimic the cabinetry are a trend that has been gaining speed for years. New in concealed kitchen design is the secret butler’s pantry…hidden behind a matching cabinetry panel or a sliding ‘wall’ door. "

Slab Backsplashes

Traditional white subway tile backsplashes and trendy zellige tile backsplashes are being replaced in favor of sleek, large-scale slab backsplashes. A slab backsplash is simply a backsplash made out of one large piece of continuous material. It can be matched to the countertops, or used as a statement piece in the kitchen with a bold contrasting color or design. Granite, quartz, and marble are popular choices for slab backsplashes although there are many options available.

“Many clients are requesting slab backsplashes that go all the way to the ceiling around windows or around a range hood,” says Emily Ruff, owner and Principal Designer at Seattle-based design firm Cohesively Curated Interiors. “You can forgo the upper cabinets to allow the stone to shine!”

Slab backsplashes aren’t just eye-catching, they’re functional too, points out April Gandy, Principal Designer at Alluring Designs Chicago. “Carrying the countertop to the backsplash provides a seamless, clean look, [but] it is also so easy to keep clean since there are no grout lines,” she says.

Organic Elements

The past few years have been all about bringing nature into the home and this isn’t expected to stop in 2023. Organic elements will continue to make their way into kitchens in the form of natural stone countertops, organic and eco-friendly materials, wood cabinetry and storage, and metal accents, to name a few. Sierra Fallon, Lead Designer at Rumor Designs, sees natural stone countertops in particular as a trend to watch out for in 2023. “While quartz will remain a go-to for many, we will see a growth in the use of beautiful marbles and quartzites with more color on countertops, backsplashes, and hood surrounds,” she says.

Cameron Johnson, CEO, and Founder of Nickson Living predicts this green movement will manifest in both large and small items in the kitchen. Things like “wood or glass bowls in lieu of plastic, stainless trash bins, and wood storage containers,” on top of bigger-ticket items like marble countertops or natural wood cabinets are all things to watch out for in 2023, Johnson says.

Large Islands Designed for Dining

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and many homeowners are opting for larger kitchen islands to accommodate dining and entertaining directly in the kitchen rather than a formal dining room. Hilary Matt of Hilary Matt Interiors says this is a function of homeowners “redefining the spaces in our homes.” She adds, “Traditional kitchens are evolving into other parts of the home. In the coming year, I predict larger—and even double—kitchen islands will be integrated to accommodate for larger entertaining and gathering spaces in the kitchen.”

Interior Impressions

Warm Colors Are In

While white will continue to be a popular choice for kitchens in 2023, we can expect to see kitchens get a bit more colorful in the new year. In particular, homeowners are embracing warmer tones and bold pops of color rather than monochromatic, Scandinavian-style minimalism or white and gray farmhouse-style kitchens. Of the push towards using more color in the kitchen, Fallon says that she sees lots of organic and saturated colors being big in 2023 in all areas of the kitchen. Expect to see all-white cabinets switched out in favor of warm, natural wood tones in both dark and light hues.

When white and gray are used, we can expect to see those colors warmed up significantly compared to previous years. Basic gray and stark white are out and creamy off-whites and warm grays are in says Stacy Garcia, CEO and Chief Inspiration Offer at Stacy Garcia Inc.

If you are looking to get the biggest bang for your kitchen remodeling dollars, a quartz countertop is a winning bet. Quartz is an engineered material that is both heat- and stain-resistant making it a perfect choice for busy cooking spaces. Its manufacturing process involves combining around 95 percent ground quartz, which is one of the hardest minerals on the planet, with a mix of polymer resins. The finished result is an incredibly durable stone-like surface that can stand up to daily wear and tear. Just as convenient, the engineered material does not require sealing like natural stone surfaces such as marble or granite.

When it comes to looks, quartz countertops are available in a wide range of colors and even better, stone-like patterns that seriously look and feel like the real thing. To get the gist, check out our favorite quartz countertops for kitchens.

Kitchen interior 2023 | TOP 5 Design Trends (120 photos)

When planning your dream kitchen, you will surely come across a lot of information that will fall on you from the pages of magazines, from the Internet. All this is not so easy to process and sort through. After all, new trends, fresh ideas, modern trends in the world of kitchen interior design 2023 never cease to amaze the average layman.

Popular colors in the interior of the kitchen in 2023 (photo)

When choosing a color scheme for a modern kitchen interior in 2023, you should be guided only by your preferences. Choosing the right paint color for the walls will allow you to visually enlarge the space, transform the whole room, and most importantly, improve not only your well-being, but also that of all household members, which will most likely increase their appetite and make eating more enjoyable. According to experts, popular colors for the kitchen in 2023 should be selected based on the interior design style of the room. But what does it look like in practice?

In a small kitchen, muted colors (eg white, grey, beige) look very nice and impressive. Also interesting is the pastel version, which optically enlarges and brightens the space. Of course, the same techniques can be applied in a kitchen that is completely separated from the rest of the rooms (the so-called closed kitchen).

Fashionable large 2023 kitchen will look great if it is decorated in classic, dark and rich colors. Such color schemes are suitable for people who love experiments, because almost all options are allowed here.

The combination of different, at first glance, ridiculous shades is a sign of refined taste. Remember - expressive and ingeniously selected colors in a large room will give individuality and character to the interior.

An important point is to consider the location of windows and furniture. If the kitchen has windows (the room is well lit), you can easily use dark colors, otherwise light pastel colors are better. When decorating the interior, make sure that the wall opposite the window is painted in a lighter shade.

Universal color choices for the kitchen 2023:

Making a beautiful kitchen design in 2023 in perfect colors is quite difficult. However, following new trends and fashion trends, you can make the interior stylish, bright and original. It is only important to pay attention to the following points.

White and beige is the kitchen interior design trend in 2023. These colors pair perfectly with rustic, Scandinavian and classic styles, and are perfect for modern wood furniture. Thanks to them, a small space will become neat, clean, very bright, and most importantly, optically enlarged.

Beige and white combination will add elegance and lightness to large kitchens. Regardless of the color of the furniture and decor, the interior will look great.

Pastel has always been associated with lightness and tenderness. It is perfect for a small kitchen, it will not suppress it and deprive it of lightness (especially light pink, aqua, pale yellow, blue, sand).

Pastels should be combined with a color of the same shade, because too much contrast can darken the kitchen. The exception is the same colors in different shades (for example, blue + dark blue, rich pink + delicate pink).

Composition with black is a great solution when the kitchen has furniture of the same color. Black color in the interior is experiencing a kind of renaissance. It is not often found in the interior and is an interesting alternative to white and pastel colors.

A cold tone will make a narrow kitchen more proportional. But it cannot be denied that this color is quite complex, as it absorbs light and visually makes the space look deeper. For a similar color, it is better to choose laconic furniture. Looks good in combination with dark walls (brown, black) light furniture.

Stylish accents will provide the necessary volume to the room (countertop in a contrasting color), add an atmosphere of chic and wealth to the stylish interior of the 2023 kitchen.

A special slate wall (for example, on one of the walls) is suitable for creative people, which can break the routine and make your stay in the kitchen much more interesting.

This solution is primarily for trendy and modern kitchen interiors 2023 whose photos can be found in the interior. Compositions in this style will look very creative. It is worth considering the place for drawing with chalk (for example, the surface of kitchen cabinets or refrigeration equipment).

Colors with which you can create a warm arrangement - red, yellow, green. When using them, make sure that the shades of the accessories are muted. On the other hand, light furniture will soften the dominant bright colors and provide an optical increase in the room. The presented colors will look great in eclectic, modern and retro styles.

Caramel tones, shades of milk chocolate, peach, ripe pear, raspberry, cinnamon can be attributed to the most popular cheerful colors for interior design of the kitchen in 2023. They will create a positive mood in the kitchen, as they are associated with the sun, summer and pleasant moments. At the same time, these fantastically attractive shades are completely neutral, they bring a special coziness to the room.

An effective and attractive solution, more suitable for larger rooms, a combination of two colors on one wall.

Fashionable colors in the interior of the kitchen 2023:

You can also use pastel colors with intense counterparts. But unlike previous solutions, which are in addition to the design of modern kitchen interior design in 2023, they will be dominant (dictating conditions), so the rest of the decor elements and all kinds of accessories (dishes, textiles, household appliances) should be matched to match the walls. 9Note! The right combination of colors for the interior of the kitchen 2023 will allow you to get a functional, beautiful and cozy space. The only limitation on color design is your imagination.

Kitchen interior design 2023 - fashion trends, trends (photo)

Are you planning to create an ergonomic kitchen design project 2023 on your own? Then study the fashion trends and trends that are popular this year or listen to your feelings and the advice of your friends, whose tastes you trust.

At the same time, the opinion of a specialist is no less important. A professional designer, taking into account your wishes, will help develop a project for a functional and stylish kitchen in 2023, in which there will be nothing superfluous. But before using his services, you need to decide for yourself what kind of new kitchen you want to see, what should be placed in it. The tips below will help you decide.

Choose classic

If you stick to the classic style when designing a trendy kitchen interior in 2023, it's hard to go wrong. Unlike newfangled trends that often change (on average once every 2-3 years), the good old classics are relevant for all time. She embodies elegance, impeccable taste and nobility.

It is especially important to give preference to the classic style if you plan to sell an apartment. New owners may not like the bright colors and unusual elements that were in vogue a few years ago.

Choose practical materials

Kitchen furniture should be made of practical, easy-to-clean materials. For example, glossy facades look chic, but they will have to be wiped down daily, because every fingerprint is clearly visible on a perfectly smooth surface.

Make sure you have good lighting

In order for the modern kitchen 2023 to be well lit, it is necessary to provide several light sources. Work surfaces can be illuminated with spotlights; sconces or other sources of subdued light are suitable for family dinners and soulful tea parties.

Install additional outlets

You may not need them now. But in the future, you may have new kitchen appliances, and additional outlets will come in handy. In addition, during the operation of the kitchen, it is often necessary to charge the phone, connect an iron or a vacuum cleaner.

It is better to use special hangers.

Provide storage space for food and kitchen utensils They should be roomy and comfortable so that everything you need is at hand. If you have small children, drawers and doors should be equipped with a special lock.

It is also necessary to allocate space for storing a meat grinder, food processor, juicer, which you do not use so often. This will free up space on your desktop.

To store large items (vacuum cleaner, mop, ironing board) you may need a tall narrow cabinet without shelves.

Choose cabinets with glass doors

Hanging kitchen cabinets store plates, cups, glasses. To make the trendy design of the kitchen 2023 seem more spacious, their doors should be transparent. Open shelves are also a good option. They give a sense of space. But in this case, dust can settle on the dishes. You will have to carefully monitor the order in the lockers, because all the contents of the shelves will be in sight.

Order kitchen cabinets up to the ceiling

If the apartment has high ceilings, you can order high ceiling cabinets for the new kitchen. They will have more storage space. In addition, you do not have to constantly clean the upper surfaces of the cabinets from dust and greasy deposits.

Make the best use of hard-to-reach places such as corners. Corner cabinets with retractable metal dryers can be used to store kitchen utensils - pots, stewpans, pans.

Choose Built-in Appliances

Built-in kitchen appliances such as oven, refrigerator, microwave will save a lot of space as they take up less space.

How to make kitchen interior design 2023 not only fashionable and beautiful, but also practical? The answer is simple. Install an additional sink. The second sink is convenient to use for washing fruits and vegetables, defrosting food. In it, you can rinse the dishes after washing, clean fish and vegetables. The size of the additional sink is smaller than the main one, in which the dishes are washed.

Try to increase the area of the countertop

Any hostess will tell you that there are always not enough work surfaces in the kitchen. Planning a new interior is a great opportunity to increase their usable area (for example, combine two tables with one table top, use its surface instead of a window sill). The countertop in the kitchen is often used as a small bar, where you can have breakfast.

A beautiful kitchen design project 2023 can be considered successful if the countertop is at the optimal height for your height. If it is too low, you will have to bend over a lot while cooking, which can cause back pain. With a high tabletop, the load on your hands will increase, because you will be forced to raise them higher. This will cause discomfort in the shoulder and elbow joints.

Arrange your kitchen furniture so that you are comfortable. In the first case, it is better to place the stove on the right side of the main work surface, in the second - on the left side.

The dishwasher is placed next to the sink, there should also be a waste bucket. This makes it easier to clean the plates from food debris and place the dishes in the machine. All furniture should be located so that it does not interfere with free movement.

Arrangement of any room in the house largely depends on the preferences of the residents. But to achieve the desired effect, you must adhere to the rules described above. We hope that new ideas, useful tips, a beautiful photo of the interior of modern kitchens in 2023 will not be superfluous, and your dreams of “an ideal place for cooking” will certainly come true.

Natural materials, reasonable consumption, "smart technology" and minimalism in design - these trends are smoothly moving into 2023, bringing with them new colors, textures and ergonomics. We will now tell you more about the current trends in kitchen design in 2023.

Content:

Current colors 2023

In general, we see a balanced combination of natural materials, colors and textures that soothe and give oneness with nature.

Despite the fact that white is still at the peak of popularity, especially in small kitchens, interiors are becoming more colorful. Preference is given to warm tones along with bright color accents. Scandi-inspired monochrome minimalism and country-style white and gray kitchens are a thing of the past.

If you take the Eton color wheel, it will be optimal to use blues, greens and sand shades.

Warm beiges

The desire to use more color in the design of the kitchen is evidenced by a wide range of popular natural and saturated colors. So, white cabinets are replaced by warm shades of light and dark natural wood. White and gray become warmer. The basic whites and grays are replaced by cream tones and warm grays, sand and desert colors.

Blue

Royal Blue and Baby Blues are especially popular in 2023. Blue kitchens look very noble and sophisticated, especially those made in a Mediterranean or minimalist style.

Green

When it comes to green, natural shades of mint and sage are the best choice.

Black

Despite some gloom, Total Black is in fashion in the design of the kitchen. It can be either a furniture set with matte black fronts and black countertops, or black walls and cabinets combined with snow-white countertops and textured wood floors. At the same time, the black color looks lively, inviting and luxurious, while the textured wood gives the room a warm, homey feel.

Bright accents

When it comes to bright colors, bright yellows, oranges and reds will be at the peak of popularity. At the same time, it is not necessary to order a set in such a bright color, it is enough to paste over one of the walls with accent wallpaper, or paint it in a bright color. As an option, a bright apron, curtains or decor (tablecloth, hot coasters, cushions on chairs, a picture or a clock).

Fashion trends in kitchen design 2023

Thinking through the design of the kitchen, you should first of all listen to yourself: what you like, what is convenient, and what, on the contrary, is unacceptable for you. However, knowledge of the most current trends will allow you to create a more interesting and memorable interior that will not go out of fashion for at least a few years.

Natural and recycled materials, sustainable consumption are reflected in the design. So, wooden surfaces and materials with a pronounced texture of natural wood will fill the kitchen with warmth and comfort. This year, there will be even more natural wood finishes in kitchens: cabinet fronts, accessories, flooring, splashbacks. Even the design of the Sub-Zero Designer series refrigerators uses wood texture. Wooden surfaces look especially interesting in combination with other natural materials: a patterned tiled floor or an island with a stone countertop.

Mixed materials continue to gain popularity in decorating from stairs to kitchen furniture. The use of natural and recycled materials in interior design has grown significantly during the pandemic, and their appeal will continue to grow, because kitchen cabinets, countertops or backsplashes made of wood, marble, granite not only have high aesthetic characteristics, but also bring health benefits (due to for reducing the amount of chemically treated items in the house).

Natural wood is even more often present in the design of the kitchen, especially in two-tone interiors. The color of natural wood wonderfully dilutes the snow-white kitchen, goes well with neutral shades of cream and beige.

The mix of wooden fronts and marble top and backsplash looks amazing. You can add a tree to the interior pointwise: by decorating the back panel of the bar or open shelves.

Wood and metal combination cabinets are especially popular due to their unique look and durability.

The combination of old and new materials looks very original: faucets and handles made of pewter, copper or satin brass, pendant lamps made of mixed metals along with minimalist facades. The mixture of metals creates the effect of unity with nature in the interior, which is so lacking for residents of megacities.

Current kitchen trends aim to make the kitchen as living and homely as possible, dispelling the notion of a show house. Vintages and antiques are must-haves for next year, ranging from simple carpentry (a massive dining table, hand-made chairs or open shelves) to unique antiques (a copper or brass sink, candlesticks, pendant lights). These inexpensive, timeless antiques will add character and ambiance to any interior. Which is especially true for private houses and apartments with high ceilings in old houses.

Matte and satin kitchen cabinet fronts are more on-trend than glossy cabinet fronts because they look warmer and more natural. As for black, handleless matte fronts with a minimalist streamlined design are the best choice.

If wood - then with a clearly visible texture, if marble - then with bright unique patterns. Aprons and countertops made of natural materials accentuate the interior and give the kitchen individuality.

The hood should blend in as closely as possible with the surrounding surface, be it a wall or a hanging cabinet. The same natural materials act as decoration: marble, wood, metal.

More and more designers are turning the kitchen into a common space where they will not only cook, but spend time with the whole family. Not the last role in this is assigned to the island. The kitchen island is getting bigger, providing not only more storage space, but more seating for family and friends. The island also serves as a zoning element, separating the cooking area and the recreation area.

More and more designers are moving away from wall cabinets in favor of open shelves. At the same time, the shelves are not cluttered, they store only beautiful dishes or interior items. At the same time, the shelves themselves can act as an element of decor due to their unusual shape or material of manufacture.

In contrast to the open shelves, the kitchen unit integrates as much as possible into the common space. Even a full-fledged pantry can be hidden behind a facade that imitates a wall. Smart technologies and modern materials make it possible to hide the cooking area, focusing on the recreation and entertainment area.

Increasingly, small kitchens are combined with living rooms, creating a single spacious space, with a suite hidden inconspicuously against one of the walls. The door panels of the cabinets blend in with the walls and look like decorative trim. Instead of handles, there are hidden mechanisms with fingerprint sensors that allow you to smoothly open and close the doors.

One of the main trends is kitchen cabinets without handles, when opening is done by pressing. The whole emphasis goes to the details of cabinets, which without handles look more concise and streamlined. Thanks to technological advances, handles can be dispensed with both in base and wall cabinets. If you are afraid of fingerprints on the facades, use recessed handles. They can be decorated both to match the facades, and stand out in color and material.

Designers recommend choosing furniture that seems to float in the air: on glass legs, suspended structures. So the kitchen looks more spacious and filled with air. It can be either hanging lower cabinets or a dining table with a transparent base.

Contemporary styles

Recently, there are almost no interiors decorated in a pure style. As a rule, all of them are adapted to modern realities. So, a loft can be found even in a small kitchen, and Provence does not always mean ceiling beams and a variety of textile decor.

The most relevant styles this year:

Trends in the design of finishing materials

In the decoration of the kitchen, natural materials come to the fore: wood, stone, metal, glass.

Flooring

When it comes to kitchen flooring, ceramic and porcelain tiles are still in vogue, as are wood flooring. Tiles can be neutral brown or sand, gray or wood imitation. As for the pattern, it is better to choose subtle non-contrasting patterns for the floor if you plan to make an interesting backsplash or countertop. If the interior as a whole is calm, you can be bolder with a pattern on the floor.

Mansion wicker is an alternative to a herringbone or chevron wood kitchen floor. This pattern originated in the mansions of France in the 17th century and is now experiencing a rebirth. The updated version has the same trapezoids and polygons as the original, but uses a heavier plank format and a lighter color.

Walls and ceiling

Walls in the kitchen are either painted or wallpapered. At the same time, you can decorate the whole room in one color, often calm and neutral (shades of sand, blue, brown, green and warm gray are relevant), or make one of the walls accent (with a floral or geometric print, or just a more saturated bright color ).

The ceiling is actual plain white painted or matte stretch. Multi-level structures are a thing of the past.

Kitchen backsplash

In the design of the backsplash in the kitchen, designers recommend looking at glossy ceramic tiles in neutral tones or bright shades of natural colors (blue, green, brown, beige). Tiles of complex geometric shapes accentuate and complement the simpler lines of the furniture set.

Glossy tiles are easier to clean, reflect light well and add richness and elegance to interiors. The green backsplash tile combined with the marble counter creates a beautiful contrast and adds different textures to the space.

For a more subdued effect, choose a glazed white tile that reflects natural light as much as possible.

At the peak of popularity, marble aprons under the ceiling, while the bolder and brighter the natural pattern, the better.

Choose a monolithic backsplash made of granite, marble or quartzite to match the countertop or make it accent. Very popular next year will be a stone apron under the ceiling in the kitchen with open shelves.

Modern worktops

Natural stone (marble, quartz, granite) and wood come to the fore in the design of the worktop. You should not be afraid of the color on the countertop, the brighter and more unique the pattern of stone or wood, the better. The green color becomes an indisputable hit: khaki, fresh lime, bottle green.

Glass Partitions

Despite the fact that the kitchen is turning from a dedicated cooking space into a place for the whole family, and the trend towards space consolidation continues, more and more often in the work of designers there is a desire to separate the cooking area from the zone living room. And if a regular wooden door looks too massive, then a glazed partition perfectly divides the space without sacrificing lighting and a sense of togetherness, while keeping cooking smells at bay. In addition, glass partitions do not eat up the area, maintaining the feeling of a single space.

More current zoning options can be found here.

Bar counter in 2023

The bar counter is still relevant, but it is undergoing some changes. The bar counter becomes more compact, bar stools are closer to each other, creating a more intimate atmosphere. It can be a place to relax with one or two chairs, or just a place for breakfast. Here, the bar counter acts not as an independent element of the interior, but more as an addition to the obligatory dining group in the dining area.

Kitchen lighting trends

Kitchen lighting is still multi-layered, as we need to light up the dining area, the worktop and the whole room. However, in the pursuit of the number of fixtures, it is easy to turn the kitchen into a runway. Instead of quantity, pay attention to the quality and ergonomic placement of fixtures, their shape and material.
The same trends can be traced in the design of lamps: natural materials, mixing metals, environmental friendliness and energy efficiency.
For example, hanging lamps with wicker or glass lampshades will not only beautifully define the dining area, but also add layering to the interior.

Which curtains will be in trend?

When choosing curtains for the kitchen, pay attention to natural materials: cotton, linen, bamboo fiber. In a brightly lit kitchen, you can combine translucent curtains with thicker curtains.

Roller blinds and Roman blinds are not in a hurry to give up their positions. In minimalist and Scandinavian interiors, a complete rejection of curtains is welcome.

As for colors and prints, it all depends on the overall interior. Curtains can both focus on themselves and merge with the wall. Relevant geometric, floral and floral prints, plain materials.

If you want to add color to the interior, but are afraid - start the transformation with curtains, just do not forget to support them in pillows on chairs, tablecloths or coasters.

Kitchen-living room

All of the above trends are applicable in the design of the kitchen-living room. The most interesting here can be:

In the interior, the maximum use of natural materials and more colors. Do not be afraid to mix materials and textures of different nature, the bolder you are, the more interesting and unforgettable your kitchen-living room will become.

Distinctive features of the design of a small kitchen

Not all of the above trends can be implemented on an area of 5-6 square meters. We will try to choose the most suitable ones:

Conclusion

A large number of natural materials, brighter natural colors, multi-tiered lighting, a mixture of metals and textures, smart technologies - choose trends that are close to you and will look harmoniously in your kitchen.
