Showers with two heads
18 Double Showers For a Spa-Like Experience
Design by Cathie Hong Interiors / Photo by Margaret Austin Photo
Taking a couple's shower might sound spontaneous and romantic, but in reality can often be a cramped, slippery, and awkward affair in a layout designed for one. Whether you're looking to build an ergonomic space for spontaneous joint showers or dual showers are a practical necessity in a household where you both need to get ready for work at the same time, a double shower can be a practical primary bathroom luxury for those with the budget and floor space.
Unlike a shower with conventional, hand-held, and rainwater showerheads attached to the same water source, a double shower features two showerheads within close reach that are controlled separately so each person can adjust the water temperature and length of their shower to suit their own needs.
Check out these double shower ideas in a range of layouts, styles, sizes, and finishes.
About This Term: Primary Bathroom
Many real estate associations, including the National Association of Home Builders, have classified the term "Master Bedroom" (or "Master Bathroom") as discriminatory. "Primary Bedroom" is the name now widely used among the real estate community and better reflects the purpose of the room.

How to Make Your Bathroom Look Expensive
Absolutely genius bathroom attachment gives you TWO showerheads so you can shower with your partner
It isn’t often that I find myself heartily laughing at a design just because it’s so delightful to look at. The Tandem Shower proposes a solution to an unconventional problem that not everyone seems to talk about, but has surely plagued plenty of people. Here’s the problem – Hollywood has somehow made showering together look incredibly sexy when in fact, it’s nothing short of a logistical nightmare. Sure, double beds can accommodate two people comfortably… but that one showerhead wasn’t designed for two people. So when a couple decides to ‘spice things up’ by showering together, the sad reality is that only one person gets to shower at a time while the other stands beside them, feeling cold because they’re dripping wet. The Tandem Shower aims at solving that problem by simply doubling the amount of showerheads in the bathroom.

Although difficult to execute properly, showering together is a pretty neat idea. It saves time, saves water, and more importantly, it’s a fun bonding experience just like cooking together, brushing teeth together, or snuggling on the sofa and watching TV. Designed to attach directly to your existing showerhead, the Tandem Shower is an easy-to-install no-plumber-required shower accessory that distributes your shower into two distinct streams. Although perfect for couples, the Tandem Shower also makes a pretty compelling case for solo showers with a much more luxurious, immersive 360° shower experience (think Ross Geller in the tanning booth).
The Tandem Shower comes with an adjustable design, allowing it to fit in most bathrooms. It connects directly to your existing showerhead’s water inlet, which effectively distributes the water supply between the two shower heads. A valve on the Tandem Shower then lets you effectively switch between either of the showerheads, or run both simultaneously. It’s worth noting that the Tandem Shower was also designed keeping other considerations in mind – for starters, it comes with a flexible hose that lets you mount your Tandem with plenty of clearance, allowing for a second showerhead that’s much higher than your current one (especially useful for taller people). The Tandem showerhead also comes mounted on a ball and socket joint, letting you angle-adjust your water flow like you would with the existing shower. Don’t have a traditional showerhead? The Tandem Shower was designed to work with a wide variety of showerhead styles, even with handhelds.
In three different settings. The high velocity setting in particular delivers nearly two times more force than standard showerheads.
Height Adjustable. It actually allows taller people to have a showerhead that’s much higher than their main showerhead.
Custom-designed valve allows you to adjust the flow between the two showerheads.
The Tandem Shower opens up the space for a couple to shower comfortably together while also covering you head-to-toe in a solo shower.
Tandem Shower is also easily compatible with other showerheads, including handhelds.
Chrome Finish
Black Finish
Miami Finish
The bizarrely delightful idea for a dual-shower system came from Brett Skaloud and Jeff Feiereisen, two engineers who met while working at Amazon. Having previously worked the Amazon Go stores and the autonomous delivery robot Scout, Brett and Jeff collectively had enough experience in product development to comfortably pull off the Tandem Shower together. I wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon even had concrete search data to prove that a dual-shower system was in some sort of demand. However, I digress… After spending roughly a year working on the Tandem together, Brett and Jeff took to Kickstarter to help crowdfund their idea into existence.
For now, the Tandem Shower costs $249 (that’s a $100 bucks off its retail price), and is relatively easy to install without requiring any plumber or expert. The Tandem Shower is available in Chrome, Black, and Miami (blue + salmon pink) colors, and can comfortably fit in showers with a wall-to-wall distance between 57″ and 76″. You can visit Tandem Shower’s Kickstarter page to drop in your pledge for the shower attachment. Who knows, it might just be the most fun showering experience you could possibly ask for!

details of design, selection and use
The most short-lived element of a shower system is usually a flexible hose. During the use of the shower system, many owners change two or three hoses, which deteriorate under the influence of hot water and water hammer, due to deformation of the inner tube, and for a number of other reasons.
A damaged hose always becomes a cause for disappointment, and although you can find a replacement for it at any plumbing store, and installation does not require special equipment, you still want to have as few breakdowns in the house as possible. This means that you should not buy the first hose that comes across - it is better to spend a little time and choose the most reliable model. How to do it? Let's explore the different types of shower hoses offered by manufacturers today so that you can choose the one that suits you best. nine0003
Features
A typical flexible hose for a shower faucet consists of the following elements:
- inner tube that carries water from the faucet to the shower head;
- outer flexible braid protecting the soft tube from damage;
- union nuts at the ends, with which the hose is connected to the faucet and watering can.
Consider the role of each of them, features and functions that affect the consumer qualities of a shower hose. nine0003
Inner tube
The inner tube, made of plastic or rubber, is the weakest structural element. It is she who, as a rule, breaks due to the high pressure of water, systematic twisting or banal aging of the material. If the break is close to the end of the tube, the hose can be repaired, although not for long. A product that is torn in the middle needs an unambiguous replacement. Budget segment models use inexpensive and short-lived tubes made of soft plastic. More expensive and more impressive models are equipped with tubes made of more durable rubber, which can better withstand pressure drops and water hammer. nine0003
Some plumbing brands offer products without an outer braid, only with a soft transparent tube. When water flows through such a tube, the hose looks very impressive and unusual. Unfortunately, the product cannot boast of durability: the plastic quickly darkens and loses its transparency. Therefore, hoses without an outer braid are extremely rare.

Outer winding
The outer winding, made of a strong and elastic material twisted by a spring, performs several important tasks at once: nine0003
- protects the soft inner tube from mechanical damage, UV and other external influences;
- provides the necessary flexibility and mobility;
- prevents deformation and twisting;
- provides a positive aesthetic experience thanks to its high-gloss chrome finish.
Structurally, the outer braid is a narrow strip of flexible but strong material wound around the tube with a slight overlap of turns. As a rule, the outer winding is made of: nine0003
- chromium-plated stainless steel - strong and durable option;
- brass - providing decent wear resistance and used in retro shower systems;
- metal coated plastic;
- metal and silicone - for premium segment models.
The metal braid not only provides reliable protection of the inner tube from deformation and external damage, but also performs a decorative function. The glossy finish can be chrome, copper, bronze or gold (titanium oxide coated), so it's easy to match the shower hose to your bathroom and faucet design. nine0003
Shower Hose ESKO Reinforced Shower Hose 160 cm
The service life of a metal braid is on average 6-8 years, after which the metal often loses its flexibility and begins to break in places that are most often subjected to deformation. In addition, over time, lime deposits accumulate between the turns, which worsens not only the appearance, but also the performance.
Plastic winding has two indisputable advantages - high flexibility and minimal cost. It is not afraid of corrosion, quite resistant to high temperatures. In any case, it calmly withstands heating up to 75-80 ° C. nine0003
It is also important that the plastic shower hose is made in a variety of designs. Most often, the outer layer is coated with a metal coating that mimics chrome plating, but recently colored and transparent shower braids have become popular. Such a hose looks unusual and attractive, but plastic, as a rule, decorates a bathroom for no longer than 3-5 years. It quickly begins to become cloudy, lose flexibility, dry out and crack. nine0003
However, the price of a plastic hose allows you to change it every few years without much damage to the family budget. Somewhat more practical are hoses made of plastic reinforced with steel wire, but they are also more expensive.
Shower hose AM.PM 175 cm
Silicone coated flexible metal hose is the best wear resistant solution today. Silicone serves as an excellent protection of metal against corrosion, increases the elasticity and resistance of the hose to deformation. In addition, silicone prevents the appearance of fungus and mold. Silicone-coated models look great, are easy to care for, comfortable, and last at least 10 years. However, they also have disadvantages, even if not to mention the high price. Such hoses weigh slightly more than conventional metal products. nine0003
Union nuts
To connect the hose to the faucet and hand shower, cap nuts are provided at its ends. One of them, shorter and cylindrical, is designed to be connected to a mixer. The second, cone-shaped, is usually made longer and is necessary for screwing onto the shower head.
Currently, almost all plumbing is mounted on the inch standard thread used in European countries. The domestic metric thread standard is very rare today and mainly on old, still Soviet plumbing. Most hoses are equipped with nuts with standard ½-inch threads, but some models are available with smaller diameter 3/8-inch threads. However, if the diameters of the hose and mixer do not match, you can use an adapter. nine0003
It is quite difficult to determine the size of a threaded connection by eye, especially if your field of activity is far from plumbing and mechanical engineering. In order to accurately select a shower hose in the store, we advise you to take an old, defective copy with you as a sample.
Shower hose dimensions
In addition to the diameter of the connecting nuts, when choosing, you should pay attention to another important parameter - the length of the product. The generally accepted length is 150 cm, which allows you to freely use the hand shower without restricting your movements. The one and a half meter hose is suitable for people of any height and at the same time does not get in the way. However, on sale you can find products of different lengths, designed for various types of plumbing: nine0003
- 125 cm - for bidet, hygienic shower or washbasin;
- 150 cm - for shower cabin, 150 cm bathtub or hydro box;
- 175 cm - for a long bath or hydromassage panel;
- 200 cm - for high whirl box.
However, the above classification is rather arbitrary, since in each case one should be guided solely by convenience and expediency. When choosing a length, match it with the size of your bath or shower, so that you and your loved ones can comfortably use the shower. Too short a hose will restrict movement and create discomfort, too long will have to be wound up so that it does not hang under your feet when you take a shower. nine0003

Options
- Anti-twist. Anti-kink and twist protection is an important option. It consists of bearings and swivel joints built into the ends of the hose, which provide the tube with free rotation at the junctions with the watering can and the mixer. The cost of such products is quite high, but the service life, due to the absence of deformations, increases significantly. No matter how you move around the shower cabin, the shower hose will not twist in “eights” or break at the junction with the mixer. nine0012
- Stretch braid. We advise you to pay attention to models with a stretchable braid. This is especially important if there are children in the family who, while swimming, can experiment with hygiene items. Expandable hose is much harder to break than regular hose.
- Antibacterial coating. No less interesting additional option is antibacterial and antifungal surface protection. A special coating ensures the absence of pathogenic microflora on the outer and inner surfaces of the tube and braid. nine0012
- Gaskets with filter. To prevent clogging of the shower head openings with small particles, choose a hose with an integrated microfilter. Durable mesh effectively retains grains of sand, limescale particles and other inclusions. To clean the filter, it is necessary to periodically disassemble and wash the gasket.
Shower hose ESKO 120 cm
What to look for when choosing a hose
So that the purchase does not disappoint you in a short time, when choosing a model, pay attention to: nine0003
- brand, giving preference to well-known, trusted manufacturers;
- Uniform winding of the braid, uniformity of the metal coating, absence of external defects - burrs, sagging, thickening, etc. ;
- the presence of gaskets in the kit;
- the presence of an accompanying document with the characteristics of the product, the address and telephone number of the manufacturer, and other important data.
Do not try to save money by choosing the cheapest model, because the service life of such a product is unlikely to be long enough to justify your expenses. nine0003
Do-it-yourself installation of a shower hose
No special equipment is required to install a new shower hose and no plumbing knowledge is required. Literally anyone can handle the installation, because there is nothing complicated in this operation. Just in case, we advise you to stock up on an adjustable wrench or open-end wrench, as you may need it to unscrew the stuck nut of the old hose.
- Just in case, turn off the water in the pipe leading to the bathroom faucet. nine0012
- Loosen the nuts on the old hose near the watering can and on the faucet to remove the defective product.
- Use a soft cloth to wipe the threads on the shower head and on the faucet to remove any dirt.
- Insert the sealing gasket into the union (cylindrical) nut, then screw it onto the mixer nozzle.
- Insert the second gasket into the cone nut of the hose and screw on the watering can. Do not overtighten the nuts, use only your hands to avoid stripping the threads. nine0012 6. Turn on the water and check how the shower works with a new hose. If you notice water leaking in some place, tighten the corresponding nut a little tighter.
Shower hose VIDIMA 175cm
How to care for your shower hose
With good care, a shower hose will last for many years, even if you choose not the most expensive model. Follow a few simple recommendations to help avoid breakdowns. nine0003
- Do not wrap the hose around the faucet or leave it lying on the shower or bath floor. After you finish taking a shower, insert the watering can into a special holder.
- When using the shower, take care not to kink, kink or stretch the hose to avoid damage to the inner tube.
- For washing and cleaning use a soft washcloth or cloth, a synthetic bristle brush and a normal non-aggressive and non-abrasive detergent. Wash the hose regularly to prevent the accumulation of dirt and lime deposits between the braids. nine0012
- Do not run excessively hot water through the product for a long time, especially under strong pressure. High temperatures contribute to the rapid aging and destruction of soft plastic. a
If you do not follow these rules, even an expensive and high-quality hose can quickly become unusable.
Wall shower holders for the bathroom: how to choose the right one?
No bathroom would be complete without modern and practical accessories, such as wall-mounted shower holders, to ensure that the water flows in the right direction. Today on the market you can find modular designs, with different functional and design features. nine0003
Contents:
- Advantages of shower holders
- Features of rotating structures
- Materials for making holders
- Types of attachments for shower holders
- Shower head, how to choose?
- Shower holder installation
- What do the experts advise?
Structures are built into the wall or removable with the ability to mount at any height, taking into account the growth of users of all family members. How to make the right choice among the many different products offered by manufacturers. It is advised when choosing a holder to consider 3 main points nine0003
- the possibility of adjusting the holder to the desired level;
- the ability to install the watering can at an angle for convenience and change the water jet in any desired direction;
- reliability, strength of fixing the shower head to the holder.
If a shower enclosure is installed in the bathroom and drilling holes in the wall to mount the holder is not possible, it is of course reasonable to purchase a removable suction cup. If the bath fits snugly against the wall, also has a non-standard round or oval shape, then it is better to buy a holder-rod with a special rotating handle for supplying a jet of water at any convenient angle. If you need to install a shower in the corner of the room itself, then you can pick up a curved bar of irregular shape. Although an interesting solution - the installation of two holders at once: a removable one and a wall one is becoming more popular today. A soap dish or a shelf can be attached to the bar, which is convenient, practical, rational. When taking water procedures, you do not need to reach far, for example, for shampoo, a washcloth. nine0003
Benefits of shower holders
Modern shower holders are irreplaceable attributes in any bath room. The undoubted advantages of the new models include:
- the presence of a rotary mechanism for the possibility of supplying a jet of water at any angle and in different directions;
- many different shapes, styles for the purpose of seamless installation in non-standard bathrooms;
- equipped with fasteners for the ability to adjust the level of inclination and the desired height of the shower handle when water is supplied; nine0012
- reliability of fixing the holder to the wall;
- the possibility of accepting the head from the shower in any position.
Fasteners are necessary attributes in the bathroom and can fit into almost any interior. Today, manufacturers offer options that can be attached to the wall at any angle and even on the ceiling, which will give a special charm and style to the room. In addition, the wall holders are quickly adjustable in height and can be easily lowered up and down. nine0003
When choosing, you need to pay attention to the fastenings (mechanisms, hinges). They must be stable, durable, with a long service life and corrosion resistance.
Features of rotating structures
Equipping the shower holders with connecting hinges allows you to turn the showerhead in any convenient position, while the structure is firmly fixed to the wall.
Today on sale you can find designs with the ability to turn the watering can in any desired direction (up, down, vertically and horizontally). Mounting to the wall of fixed holders is no longer in demand. The rotating design automatically guides the holder in any direction and fixes it at the desired height, which is convenient and comfortable for users. nine0003
There is a significant disadvantage of such holders - a high probability of wear due to daily sipping back and forth. Therefore, models with attachment to the wall on brackets are more relevant for consumers, as reliable and durable fasteners, and the shower head can rotate in any direction. But such models are expensive, not everyone can afford it, and it is simply impossible to mount them in shower enclosures.
Materials for the manufacture of holders
The bathroom is a room with high humidity, so shower holders must be resistant to water, otherwise they will quickly become unusable. The material for the holders can be: nine0003
- Plastic as an aesthetic material with an attractive appearance and a low price. But rather fragile, wears out quickly;
- Metal as a more durable material, unlike plastic, has a long service life. From above, manufacturers cover with a spray of chrome, gold, silver, which will give the interior in the bathroom a special charm and sophistication;
- Brass as the most durable material, the holders of which will last for decades. nine0012
Types of attachments for shower holders
It is important that the holder is firmly attached to the wall and locked in position. Attachments for shower holders:
- Rod in the form of a metal or plastic tube in length from 50 cm to 2 meters, with the possibility of mounting in a vertical position on the wall. The presence of special fasteners on the tube allows you to fix the handle from the shower in any position and at the desired height, taking into account the growth of users. This is a fairly common model for a wall-mounted shower holder. With the help of swivel joints, it can be fixed at any height as desired, only by moving the watering can to any convenient height with a slight movement of the hand; nine0012
- The standard size of the tube in length is 0. 6-1m, but a special handle attached to the holder for the rod allows you to control the direction of the water jet. Moreover, the model can be mounted almost anywhere in the room and even in the corner, taking into account the shape of the bath itself (round, concave, rectangular, square). On sale there are models with the placement of a convenient shelf, towel holder and even a soap dish on the bar, which is practical and comfortable. Shampoos, gels and washcloths can be placed so that it is handy to get it and not reach into the far corner of the bathroom. nine0012
Wall holders with two showers at once are relevant today: removable and wall-mounted. Such rods are comfortable, have a long service life and you can direct the water jet at will in any direction.
Suction cups as a universal solution and the best option if it is impossible to attach the holder to the wall with fasteners or if you do not want to damage expensive tile flooring after drilling holes. The suction cup attaches to the wall or glass of the shower enclosure in minutes and virtually anywhere. This is a rational solution in bathrooms when installing shower enclosures, also for aesthetic purposes or the lack of certain wall chasing skills. Main advantages: nine0003
- easy, quick movement of the suction cup and with it the shower handle to any convenient place;
- no need to damage the tiles on the wall;
- quick removal of the shower, if necessary, with the ability to turn the watering can in any desired direction;
- relatively low price, unlike other analogues;
- fast removal when cleaning and cleaning the bathroom.
No self-tapping screws or other tools are needed to fix the shower to the wall when mounting the suction cups. On sale, plastic models can be bought in different configurations, textures to give style, your interior in the room nine0003
Shower head, how to choose?
The watering can is necessary for comfortable reception of water procedures. Available in various sizes, shapes and configurations. When choosing, you need to take into account the needs of each family member. By type, the following watering cans are distinguished:
- for overhead shower with wall bracket, when the shower head is attached to the wall. The holder is equipped with a removable mechanism;
- by attaching the hose to the tub rim; nine0011 rain shower with pipe attached to the ceiling. With this installation, the water from the shower is evenly sprayed over the entire shower enclosure;
- with aeration function, creation of small bubbles and saturation of the air with a water jet for comfortable washing.
Today, you can find on sale watering cans with the possibility of heating and lighting for a more comfortable reception of a hygienic shower. For what it is enough to install the watering can in the holder and attach it at the desired height. nine0003
Attention! It is not recommended to throw the shower head into the tray of the shower enclosure, otherwise you can damage the bathtub coating, plumbing, thereby violating the hygienic conditions in the bath room.
Removable shower structures - comfortable and practical to use. As a rule, a flexible hose is suitable for the shower head, which is convenient for all family members to use. The watering can is a nozzle for a hose and should be removed without hindrance. The material for the nozzle is chrome or plastic, as a practical material that cannot damage the coating in the bathroom and harm the surface. In addition, plastic watering cans are adapted for self-cleaning, they do not get clogged with limescale from water. New models are equipped with several water supply modes at once, easily adjustable if necessary in order to save water. nine0003
Mounting the shower holder
We found out which showerhead is best for personal preferences and the interior of the room. The shower holder is an integral element in the bathroom and is able to complement the overall style and design. You can fix the shower head in a comfortable position and at any height, mounting it at any angle. If the choice of a shower holder is made, then it remains to carry out the installation with your own hands. For this:
- mark the hole in the wall at the correct height for fixing the holder; nine0012
- drill a hole using a drill with bits in ceramic or concrete;
- when attaching the holder to ceramic tiles, you will need to acquire special equipment in advance.
Of course, if there are no special skills in using a drill, then it is better to entrust the work to specialists who will still install the shower holder with high quality. If you don’t want to spoil the walls with holes or a metal shower enclosure is installed in the bathroom, then the most acceptable option is to buy a suction cup and carry out self-assembly in any convenient place. Such models are suitable for almost any type of surface. Attaching the suction cup at the right height is not difficult. nine0003
What do the experts advise?
When choosing a shower holder and buying it, experts advise to pay attention to:
- material, convenient and durable metal structures with a swivel mechanism;
- manufacturer, because cheap analogues, most likely short-lived, are made of low-quality materials and will quickly become unusable;
- functionality, it is better if the holder easily repeats all the movements of the shower head at different angles of inclination; nine0012
- price, with a low cost of holders, we are probably talking about a fake.
Suction cups are easy to use and install, but short-lived. Metal holders attached to the wall with hardware are considered more reliable.
Manufacturers offer a wide variety of holder options. It is not easy for a beginner to choose among the many models on the plumbing market. The shower holder is an indispensable accessory and an integral functional attribute in the bathroom. nine0003
Attached to the wall with dowels, it is more reliable and safer to use. But you need to drill holes, which presents some difficulties and inconveniences. If you use suction cups, then children will like the option, since they are on sale in the form of various colorful toys (animals). But suckers are short-lived. They quickly lose their original elasticity, begin to let air through and become covered with cracks from water.
Attaching the holder to the ceramic is a challenge. At the seams, fixation is not possible, so the placement space is limited, and the water jet from the watering can can only be supplied in one direction.
