The answer that nobody wants is yes, probably! Primers create a base coat for the paint and will help to prevent blemishes or knots in the wood from showing through and make paint more resistant to chipping off. Many specialist cupboard paints are self-priming and suitable for use directly on wood, melamine and acrylic cabinets, but if you want the best possible results, it will probably still pay off to use a primer first.

Once you have prepped your cabinets, add the first coat of primer with a roller. If your cabinet surface is quite glossy though, you may need another coat as the multiple layers will build up added hardiness.

Creative ways to paint your kitchen cabinets

A neutral look

You really can’t go wrong with painting your cabinets a neutral color of white or gray, especially if you want to draw the eye to a creative and colorful backsplash, marble countertop, or want to achieve a streamlined modern look.  

White on top

Do you have top cabinets that don’t reach to the ceiling? If your kitchen walls are white or cream, consider painting your top cabinets white and the bottom cabinets a darker or bright color. Two-tone

Lacquer and drying oil based: oil, enamel and alkyd .

Compounds containing solvents or drying oil are extremely toxic and flammable, have a strong unpleasant odor and are harmful to health. Therefore, it is not recommended to use them for a room in which you plan to spend a long time.

In addition, oil paint is morally obsolete and not at all suitable for kitchen furniture: it takes a long time to dry, it is not durable and it is almost impossible to apply it evenly with a brush. It remains on the shelves only due to cheapness. nine0003

Alkyd paint is moisture resistant and withstands temperature extremes, more reliable than oil paint, but exhibits better properties in exterior finishes.

Water-based emulsions
