Gray-Brown

Kim Alexandruik's motto is to "go for impact." Use it as an opportunity to play with unusual seating and colorful artwork that may be harder to integrate into other rooms. Her color of choice is a "putty-colored gray, with a hint of pink and lavender. Not too light, so it doesn't go vapid," says Aleandruik. Use this hallway designed by Mally Skok as inspiration.

And see how the pillows tie everything together so nicely? That's another great way to approach the living room design process: Start with a fun pair of throw pillows and then pull out your two favorite colors to highlight on the walls and ceiling.

Dusty Pink

If you love the romantic, sweet qualities of light pink but don't want it to be too saturated, opt for a nice dusty rose. This one has a mysterious smokiness to it that's softened by the whimsical accents. "Exuberantly feminine, yet resolutely chic" was designer Jonathan Berger's motto for decorating this Brooklyn townhouse. Berger found the Suzani on eBay, while and the curvy Venetian-inspired headboard is covered in Nouvelle Orleans, a cut velvet from Clarence House.

Deep Eggplant

In this modern yet retro bedroom designed by Atelier ND, the walls are painted in Pontefract by Paint & Paper Library for a bold and rich mood. The immersive and unique hue defies definition (but if we had to try, we'd say it's a purplish-reddish black)—which is one of the many reasons the design team chose it. Even the radiator becomes cool when painted in it! The pendants were sourced from an old church and wall-to-wall carpeting never looked better.

Dark Army Green

David Frazier connected this New York City apartment bedroom to nature but also ensured that it didn't look out of place thanks to the Studio Green Farrow & Ball paint, antique furniture, and crisp bedding. Color aside, the texture-rich finish elevates the walls even further. "We wanted to showcase the movement in the plaster, so we had the walls painted in a satin finish it gives a certain depth that we wouldn’t have been able to achieve with a flat paint.”

Coral

Nothing quite radiates like joy like coral (as far as paint colors are concerned, at least). In this bedroom by Nicky Kehoe, it picks up the bright tones featured in the gallery wall while the trimming, which is a darker gray color, reflects the cooler neutrals in the bedding and accents. Under direct light, it appears brighter, while it mimics the more muted shade of terra cotta in dimmer or less direct light.

8 Creative Wall Painting Ideas You Can Do Yourself

Gone are the days when paint on the walls felt like a hospital, school or public place. Modern interior paint is matte, silky to the touch and comes in many shades. In addition, it is an excellent substitute for wallpaper. With its help, you can not only paint the walls in one color, but also draw, creating your own patterns. Here are some creative wall painting ideas using masking tape, a stencil and a sponge.

1 Color block

Color combination with large geometric shapes. Usually, bright colors are used to create it, which are opposed to each other, but the blocks can also be pastel, close in shade.

Vertical and horizontal

Division of space into color blocks in a horizontal or vertical plane. In a similar way, it is possible to allocate functional areas in a room, for example, a desktop as an office or an entrance area that is combined with a room. Two close colors look interesting in the horizontal division of the room. Here you should avoid the combination of white and color, this can cause the association of a whitewashed wall.

Color can correct the geometry of the room: lower or raise the ceiling, push the walls apart, deepen the room. In this way, you can paint sections of walls without observing clear boundaries. This will facilitate the strict style and give lightness to the room.

Geometric patterns are an easy way to add color to a room. They are easily created using masking tape and painting areas with different colors. This method is suitable for all rooms, but is especially popular in the nursery. Contrasting transitions will be appropriate in rooms where you stay for a short time: hallways, corridors, bathrooms, bathrooms. Nuance transitions - in all rooms.

How and what to paint in the apartment: a quick do-it-yourself decor

The surrounding reality seems colorless, and there is no time or energy to repaint the walls in the apartment (and, frankly, a special desire). Familiar? There is absolutely no need for radical experiments with the interior. Wow-effect can be achieved with small means. Firstly, you need to break all possible rules - paint crookedly, with smudges, carelessly. And secondly, it is necessary to color first of all what is not customary to paint. Or have you personally never thought to paint just that. There should be only one goal: to get positive from the process and the result.

Wind and Willow Home

Concrete floor in the entrance Yes, yes! Start honing your painting skills in front of your doorstep. Stencil + some white paint = an inexpensive and original message to your guests. With such an inscription, you can ask them to take off their shoes or just greet them.

Allison Cosmos

Outside door
The next object of our painting creativity is the front door. Having practiced making a simple letter stencil for paint, move on to more complex patterns. If skills allow, you can draw on your own, without blanks. Or use special rollers with patterns, however, rolling painting is possible only on smooth surfaces. Such as in the example in the next photo.

Sarah Greenman

Indoor and Outdoor Flooring Wood flooring around the house can be carpeted… But the lack of a canopy and the weather can spoil its appearance. But the bad weather is not so terrible for the patterns painted with paints. Even if they wear out or get bored, you can always come up with something new. To do this, you only need another stencil or roller with a pattern.

Pedini London

Kitchen door
Does an unremarkable door occupy the floor of the wall? Draw attention away from her with bright decor. In our example, a zebra will be engaged in a distracting maneuver: an animal with such a memorable print attracts the eye in itself, but if you direct a bright beam of light at the print, no one will notice the boring door that is hidden behind it all.

Madison Modern Home

Kitchen Table
A regular kitchen table can also be used as a chalkboard. On it, you can write a seating plan for guests or explanatory notes for the dishes served. After all, you can just play tic-tac-toe while waiting for dinner. You can make such a table with your own hands from the usual one, simply by painting it with slate paint (see the step-by-step master class “Tabletop on which you can write with chalk”).

LeAnne Bunnell Interiors Inc.

Chest of drawers in the bedroom
Slate paint is not just an emotional, but also an extremely practical way to decorate furniture.

Matthew Bolt Graphic Design

Living Room Chandelier
To give an old chandelier a new light and color, just paint it. The main thing is that the paint is heat-resistant: incandescent lamps heat its surface to a sufficiently high temperature. Metal can be painted with alkyd enamel or spray paint.

Robert Kaner Interior Design

Don't hide pipes
Ugly old pipes that can't be hidden or moved will no longer spoil the look of a room. Such a lack of space can be turned into a virtue ... with the help of paint. In our example, the painted pipes were the final touch, completing the composition of the room and bringing all the design elements together.

Allee Architecture + Design, LLC

Paint carpet on stairs
Imitation of the carpet on the steps of the stairs can be achieved by painting with stripes. Such landmarks will also help you not to stumble on a white staircase due to difficult to distinguish the boundaries of the steps.

Erica George Dines Photography

The carpet on the stairs can be supported thematically, for example, by painting photo frames in rich colors to match the stairs.

Carter Kay Interiors

Relive the hunting trophies The next example will be appreciated by lovers of Scandinavian style, tired of white deer busts. Do not be afraid to add color to such an ascetic interior, decorate a deer ... or, for starters, its antlers. In order not to “fall out” of the Scandinavian theme, choose natural shades: heavenly and woody colors.

Nanette Wong

Floristry Lessons
Let's continue transforming unnecessary rubbish - paint ordinary glass bottles from wine, soda, using acrylic or ceramic glass paint. We will get extra vases for one flower (by the way, a very fashionable decorative technique is to disassemble the bouquet into separate plants and disperse it into different vessels).

Lola Nova

Ordinary cans are also worthy of a makeover. From this "tin" you can get original flower pots. You just need to paint them in a bright color (it is better to give preference to glossy paint).

Careful painting is not always the best option. Rough lines and smudges of paint - fresh and unbroken. It is better to use a brush to achieve such painterly carelessness.

Peter A. Sellar - Architectural Photographer

"Near the forest, as in a soft bed, you can sleep - peace and spaciousness ..." What a guide to action! We paint dry branches with white acrylic paint.

Adi Tatarko

Update your bathtub
Beautiful legs should not be hidden. This statement is true not only for women, but also for baths. It is not necessary to shamefully hide an old cast-iron bathtub behind a screen. The outer part can be painted in a contrasting color with respect to the inner one to emphasize its beauty. You can use any metal spray paint or specialty bathtub refinish paint such as Devon&Devon.

Irina Tatarnikova Decor

Repaint the furniture
Start with one chair, if you like it - you can buy a new can of paint and upgrade another seat.
