Adding modern table lamps to your bedroom or living room is one of the high-end home décor touches interior designers rely on to add warmth, charm and updated style. Placing design-forward lamps with your existing living room lighting can also create depth and dimension.

“Light is the protagonist of all well-designed structures and we architects strive to find the balance between light and shade,” says Camille Colon, an architect and project manager whose work focuses on interiors and design. “Light is the most dramatic accessory of any space. Just the effect of the shadows from a lighting fixture creates texture on walls and ceilings.”

The best part? Choosing modern table lamps that instantly improve your space doesn’t have to be a wallet-busting experience. You’ll find tons of affordable-but-expensive-looking home accents on Amazon; bargain bin finds from Wayfair; cheapies from the Target home décor section; and plenty of other options that won’t break the bank.

The key to picking the right pieces? Staying on trend.

“Bold, large boho chic fixtures will be dominating the market in the year ahead,” Colon says. “This relaxed style is defined by the eclectic use of natural materials and a natural color palette. Modern table lamps using black and matte gold finishes will also be seen more than before.”

We found some of the best table lamp options for every type of room and budget. All match this year’s coming trends.

Everything new is well forgotten old. So the once fashionable styles in the interiors are returning to us again. And loft style is the most striking confirmation of this. It appeared in the distant 1940s in America, as a type of decoration for industrial buildings abandoned as unnecessary. The owners of large factories and factories were forced to transfer their production to its outskirts due to the rapidly rising price of land in the central part of the cities. The vacated premises, due to their attractive characteristics (high ceilings, large spaces, low rent), were chosen by people of creative professions as workshops and art galleries.

By the 50s, all the bohemian and artistic life of the West began to concentrate in loft-style rooms. Now this is no longer just a workshop of a poor artist, but a stylish, original room, behind which the concept of “elite housing” begins to be fixed. Renting such expensive housing, due to rising rents, has become unaffordable for people of creative professions, and prosperous companies and people who can afford it have come to their place.

Today loft style is once again extremely popular. Its connoisseurs are the same creative natures who need originality and individuality in everything. However, in Russia they are not in a hurry to make housing out of factories, because they began to transfer production from the city center to its outskirts relatively recently. Therefore, they try to recreate the stylizations of the loft style even in rooms that initially do not meet its main characteristics. Basically, apartments with a free layout and high ceilings are styled under the loft style.

So, what is a loft anyway? The loft style is a large space, multi-meter ceilings, a minimum of furniture, some roughness in decoration and natural materials. From English loft is translated as "warehouse", "attic" or "industrial premises", so some elements of industrial design, such as pipes, beams, ventilation ducts, rough brickwork, load-bearing structures do not mask in any way and remain in their original form. Another characteristic feature of this style is the huge showcase windows, thanks to which the space is literally filled with air and light. This is during the day, and at night this huge room simply needs to be properly lit.

Loft lighting

A distinctive feature of loft-style lighting is the presence of a large number of local lighting fixtures, such as floor lamps, sconces, spotlights, table lamps, pendant lamps. As already mentioned, the loft style is characterized by large spaces that need to be zoned for comfortable living. Zoning space with local lighting fixtures plays one of the main roles in loft-style rooms. Local lighting with spotlights is typical for such interiors - above a table, above a picture, above an armchair or sofa. Lighting should be as convenient and technologically advanced as possible, with the ability to turn the light source in the direction you need.

It is very typical for a loft to have one main lamp above any zone and several additional light sources. Due to the large spaces, general lighting is almost non-existent. Moreover, the direction of light is very important, a kind of illusion of a powerful light flux, as in shop windows. This effect can be successfully achieved using lamps on a tire (track) or tension on cables. Moreover, they, like no other lamps, resemble the lighting of exhibition pavilions, shops and are very practical for illuminating local areas in the interior. Hanging lamps on long wires or chains are also expedient and very popular because of the high ceilings in the lofts. Such local lighting brings a note of comfort to a loft that feels rather cold, thereby narrowing its huge spaces and multi-meter ceilings.

Luminaires "loft" - this is the practicality and conciseness of an industrial lamp. It is characterized by metal, stone, glass and high-strength plastic, where functionality is brought to the fore - fixtures, fittings, lamps, etc. Natural colors of metal are welcome, as well as just natural colors and shades of white, black and beige. Luminaires "loft" should be deliberately rough, somewhat reminiscent of spotlights of warehouses, streets, workshops. Interesting models of such lamps can be found at Donolux, Eglo, Ideal Lux, etc. factories.

The loft is now in fashion and, as already mentioned, this style is preferred by bohemians and people of creative professions - artists, sculptors who like to surround themselves with creative, original things. Therefore, lamps of extraordinary design, unusual shape and design will be very harmonious in these rooms. In such interiors, you can even find tastefully selected lamps in country style, as well as in modern styles such as pop art, minimalism.

Summing up, we note that, since now, due to some lack of free abandoned buildings of factories and factories for all lovers of the loft style, many are recreating this style in the most ordinary apartments. And here, like nothing else, loft-style lighting with a pronounced design will help you, a la an industrial street lamp, as mentioned above. He will very eloquently indicate to everyone around that your interior is in the loft style.

And if you are a happy owner of an abandoned industrial building, or just rooms with very high ceilings, huge open spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows and a constructive piece put on public display, then here you can afford to soften your interior with country-style, minimalist, hi-tech and pop art lamps harmonious with the loft style. And even lamps in a classic style! In this case, your loft-style room speaks for itself and does not need additional confirmation!

A very frequent companion of loft-style lamps are the so-called retro lamps or, another name for them, Edison lamps. This is an incandescent lamp, which has a very pleasant and, one might even say, bewitching appearance, which makes it possible for it to act both as an independent lighting element and as an accessory to a loft-style lamp. Such lamps will create the atmosphere of a mysterious loft you need.
