CREATING THE SPATIAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT CENTER: SURFACE MODELING

A. The organization of the free time of a modern person is a very promising and at the same time problematic area of application of the forces of designers, requiring a special specific approach. Modern materials and technologies make it possible to create an absolutely fantastic spatial volume for relaxation. We are, in particular, interested in the development of interiors for cultural and entertainment centers for the general population of large cities. nine0005
Interactive systems greatly increase the possibilities of transforming space, which is why architects and designers are increasingly using such systems in projects of public interiors for recreation and entertainment. Even Soviet architects and designers, for example, M. Ya. Ginzburg, L. S. Popova, K. S. Melnikov, A. M. Rodchenko, who worked within the framework of constructivism, were looking for ways to transform space due to the mechanical and physical movement of interior objects.
Modern technologies allow you to do this almost instantly, with one button switch. nine0005
Let's consider an example of the functioning of such systems based on the project of the night club "Nouveau Casino" in Paris (architects L. Paillard and A.-F. Jumeau). The perception of the space of this institution can change as much as necessary, depending on the change in the visual content of its projected images. As we can see, the project initially included a complex geometry of the walls and ceiling of the room, with surface breaks to set the most convenient angle when viewing images projected on the surface, observed by people from different points of the club space (Fig. 1). nine0005
Without projections, the room looks like in fig. 2, but one has only to project the image, as the perception of space takes on a completely different character (Fig. 3). So, the same space looks in the realized object (Fig. 4). In addition, the owners of the establishment have an additional opportunity to place advertisements (Fig.
5, 6).

It is interesting that all design views are given from one angle, and the general view of the room changes almost beyond recognition. This happens under the influence of the transformation of color, the nature and intensity of the light flux, from the outlines of color spots. So, for example, the space of the club looks from the second floor (Fig. 7).

Both static and dynamic images can be projected. In the case of an animated image, the problem of applying this system may be the emerging suspicion of how a person will feel when he is in one place in a changing space, because. not only central vision will be involved here (as when watching a movie, for example), but also peripheral vision.
How comfortable can a person feel and positively perceive what is happening around? nine0005
Projected images don't stop there. Currently, they can be interactive for each visitor of a cultural and entertainment institution. An example of the functioning of interactive systems that create the character of the surface is the “GroundFX” system, integrated by the “Interactive Media Group” company in the most closed and elite club of our capital called “XIII” (“Thirteen”).
The "GroundFX" system allows a person to change the image or control its elements by "moving", "deforming" or "deleting" individual parts of the image. This can only be visually demonstrated in video format, but a general idea can be gleaned from the figures below. On fig. Figure 8 shows a photograph of the image of the projection of the club's advertising (any image can be here, the plots can sequentially change each other). On fig. ninea photograph of the same image is shown, deformed under the influence of a wave of the hand of a person standing nearby.
Deformations can be very different: waves, turns, removal, dissolution, etc. With his movements, a person can control the outlines, the location of the elements of the projected image, and even sounds, depending on the program and hardware embedded in the system.

The image can also be projected onto a non-rigid surface, it can be projected onto a temporarily created surface that can appear and disappear at any second. Such an installation is called a “Foggy Screen”, it creates a new conditional boundary of space (Fig. 10). The surface is formed by the release of steam from the installation, which is absolutely imperceptible on the skin, but is so dense that the projected images, both static and dynamic, are perfectly visible on it. Moreover, this “surface” can be easily crossed, passing as if through a “wall”.
The only limitation in this system is that the “fog” can only spread from top to bottom. According to personal observations, the “screen” is of great interest to people, they tend to pass through it, while passing through, there is a feeling of fabulousness of this moment. An interesting fact: despite the fact that the “fog” is not felt at all to the touch, some people try to bow their heads when passing through it. nine0005

So, we have given examples of several existing systems for creating surfaces of an entertainment center in order to demonstrate the possibilities of modeling an interactive space. Obviously, in the future development of such systems, there are many seemingly useful opportunities. The creation of “virtual reality” today is not a fiction of filmmakers, but a “technical matter”. That is why, we believe, it is worth thinking about the ethical aspect of the problem of integrating such systems into the sphere of entertainment and recreation.
What, for example, storylines should be limited to when creating the surfaces described above? How not to get the opposite effect from the use of these technologies, when a person who came to rest can be really scared or, in extreme cases, harm to his health? How to establish ethical boundaries as a system of norms of human moral behavior in an illusory environment? nine0005
In our opinion, the designer is personally responsible not only for the density of filling the space of the cultural and entertainment center with interactive systems, but also for the appropriateness of their use in each specific object. Restrictions here may be national, ethnic, cultural characteristics, even climatic and many other factors, depending on the location and purpose of the center. After all, in the end, we comprehend the nature and characteristics of the impact on a person of systems for creating “virtual reality”, so that this space is harmonious, and the person in it is identical to himself, can express himself and his emotions.
