How We Chose The Best Sleeper Sofas
To choose the best sleeper sofas, we hunted down the most popular and bestselling items on the market. We then narrowed the field by analyzing reviews from real customers and relying on our editors’ expertise. The sleeper sofas that made the final cut offer up comfort, style and a good range of color and style options at a price that makes sense for what you’re getting.
What To Consider When Buying A Sleeper Sofa
A sleeper sofa, or sofa bed, is a large purchase, both literally and figuratively, so it’s wise to consider your needs and preferences ahead of shopping. Here are the factors worth keeping in mind as you shop.
TypeJust like every other type of large furniture, sleeper sofas come in all shapes and sizes. If you opt for a traditional design, it will feature a fold-out mattress, whereas sofa beds come with backs that folds down. There are also futons, which similarly fold flat, and daybeds, which are always ready for catching some z’s.
Material
When it comes to picking the best fabric, experts recommend considering your lifestyle and whether you have pets or children. “I tend to use a durable fabric, like a soft performance fabric that can be easily cleaned, because having a sectional just invites people to sit and stay,” Owens says. If you have kids or pets in your home, you might want to look into stain- and tear-resistant fabrics. But don’t worry: That doesn’t mean you have to opt for uninviting fabric or anything with a less-than-wonderful feel. “Leather is wonderful and velvet is surprisingly kid/pet-friendly,” says interior designer Emily Henderson.
PlacementYou want to consider things like where you’ll stash couch cushions when the sleeper aspect is pulled out that’s easy for your guests to access. And, of course, you should measure out your space before making a purchase. “Make sure to measure how the piece fits in your space with the bed extended,” says Victoria Sass, founder and principal of the Minneapolis-based design firm Prospect Refuge Studio. “Then add—ideally—two feet all the way around for accessibility. If you have to move other furniture out of the way, plan ahead on where those pieces will go."
Capacity/Weight Limit
How many people will be using the sofa at the same time? If you want multiple houseguests to be able to sleep on the folded-out sofa at the same time (or you have larger friends and family members), make sure you select an option that can fully support their combined weight.
Can You Sleep On A Sleeper Sofa Every Night?
Yes, you technically can sleep on a sleeper sofa every night. Some sleeper sofas do hold actual mattresses—and often, they’re up to 5 inches thick. But not all do, and truthfully, for the best comfort and support, you should be sleeping on a high-quality mattress supported by a sturdy bed frame.
How Should You Measure A Sectional Sofa?
You’re going to want to take into account the height, width and depth of any sectional you’re eyeing (in that sense, this purchase is no different than the procurement of any other large piece of furniture or appliance). Figuring out where you’ll want to put your new sofa in your living room in advance of buying one can help you determine what size will work best. The last thing you’d want is to have a sectional sofa arrive and not have enough space for it—alternatively, you could order a sofa that’s too small for your space, and it might look like it’s swimming in all of that extra room.
In addition to the sizing of the sofa itself, consider the other furniture and décor you want to place in the same room as the sectional, advises Bria Hammel, creative director and CEO of Bria Hammel Interiors. “Make sure it allows for enough space in a room for other furniture pieces,” she says. “We typically design sectional sofas with walkways around them, paired with two accent chairs adjacent to the sofa or a single chair with an ottoman. ”
Interior designer Christina Cole, founder of Christina Cole & Co., offers up a few suggestions for spacing: “We usually allow approximately one foot 8 inches from the edge of the sofa to the edge of the coffee table. Two to three feet is a suitable distance for a footpath between and around furniture pieces.”
How Long Do Sleeper Sofas Last?
Depending on the construction and materials used, a quality sofa should last you a minimum of seven years and the same rule applies to sleeper sofas as well. The longevity of a sleeper sofa largely depends on two factors: its overall quality and how often it’s used as a bed. The mechanism that allows a sofa to open can wear out over time, but so long as it’s not subject to constant wear and tear, a sleeper sofa can last up to 15 years. Just note that you may need to replace the mattress before then.
What Makes A Sleeper Sofa Comfortable?
If you’re planning a space for anyone you truly care about, you are going to want to find a sleeper sofa with an actual mattress,” Sass says. Look for options with memory foam mattresses, and if you want a little extra comfort, you can always add a mattress topper.
What Is The Difference Between A Sofa Bed And Sleeper Bed?It’s easy to assume that both sofa beds and sleeper sofas stand in for the exact same piece of furniture, but before you embark on your search for the best sleeper sofa, it’s important to know the difference between both. So while sleeper sofas appear to look like regular sofas by day, they sneakily hide a collapsible mattress underneath its cushions that unfurl to reveal a twin or a queen-size bed frame. On the other hand, sofa beds are simply single surfaces that have arms or backs that collapse to transform into a flat sleeping surface.

Maximize your sofa’s functionality and make it an extra-comfy place to lay and back relax with a sleeper sofa. These transformable couches, which go from seating space to full bed in mere minutes, turn any room into a spare bedroom or comfy spot to snooze.
When you choose a sleeper sofa, you’re getting a dual-use piece of furniture—but it’s still a sofa first. "Although sometimes a sleeper, the primary use of these pieces is typically still seating, so comfort is a must," says Michelle Castagna, President of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA), Florida Chapter. Ideally, you want your sofa to be as comfortable while watching TV as when spending a night on its mattress. And when it comes to the mattress, Castagna recommends those with air-over-coil engineering for a combination of comfort and support. “When I have clients looking for sleepers, I usually suggest this," she says.
"Ease of use is also key," Castagna notes. "The sofa frame itself should be made of kiln-dried hardwoods or furniture-grade plywood," details that can make it easier to lift up and out. Smooth edges, a locking mechanism, and maneuverability are also signs of a quality sleeper sofa.
After hours of research and at-home testing, our top pick is the Pottery Barn Cameron Roll Arm Slipcovered Sleeper Sofa, which offers equal comfort as a couch and a sleeping spot. Durable enough for daily wear and tear, this versatile sofa is also easy to clean.
Here, the best sleeper sofas for every space.

What We Don't Like
Plush couch cushions and a memory foam mattress come together in Pottery Barn’s Cameron Sleeper Sofa, offering a blend of comfort and support that easily makes it our top pick. Available in two sizes, this cushy couch offers a cozy place to relax thanks to its polyester-wrapped cushions, which are firm and don’t require any plumping, even with rough-and-tumble daily use. “The cushions hold up well and have held their shape over five months,” said our home tester. “We have a busy household and this is taking a lot of abuse, including multiple nights of sleeping on it, and it does a solid and comfortable job.”
With mortise-and-tenon joinery, the corner-blocked frame is strong and durable, meant to last you for years to come. When it’s time to pull out the queen-sized mattress, it’s a smooth effort: the pull-out mechanism is designed for heavy use, and a double-locking headrest and fall-away crossbar allow for customized adjustments for all-night comfort. A 5-inch-thick memory foam mattress infused with cooling gel gives you a supportive and heat-wicking sleep surface. And when it comes to comfort, our at-home tester said, “My husband had to sleep on it for 10 nights when I was sick. He usually has back pain and had no issues at all.”
You can choose from dozens of different upholstery fabrics in varying shades. No matter the color or material, this sleeper sofa comes with a slipcover that’s easy to pull off when it’s time for a cleaning. While it is an expensive investment—and takes some time to ship—you can expect this dual-use couch to last.

The Mopio Convertible Sleeper Sofa will enhance your space, giving you a versatile piece of furniture that shifts into a compact sleeping spot in seconds, all without breaking the bank. Affordably priced and simple in its mid-century modern design, it’s a futon-style sleeper that folds flat and offers enough room to seat three people comfortably. With eight fabric shades to choose from, you’ll love the sleek chevron stitching and wooden legs paired with 100 percent polyester fabric that feels like microfiber.
While this sleeper sofa doesn’t offer a traditional mattress, its futon-like design makes it easy to shift into a bed. A split back fold-down backrest lays flat to create a firm “bed” anywhere. When you’re using it as a couch, you can angle and adjust that backrest to your liking for a customized level of comfort, too. Levelers are included for the legs to keep the sofa stable. And setup is a breeze; the simple process takes just a few minutes.
However, keep in mind that this convertible sofa does run a bit small. When folded flat, it falls between a twin and full mattress in its size; it can be slightly short for taller sleepers. Additionally, the foam material does run firm rather than plush.

What We Don't Like
Luxuriously comfortable sleep awaits with the Crate & Barrel Fuller Sleeper Sectional. This plush couch looks like a classic sectional sofa, with a lounge-worthy chaise (which hides extra storage space!) and generously plump seat and back cushions. Underneath those cushions, however, is a comfort-forward mattress that pulls out with ease, thanks to a smooth-operating gas-lift mechanism free of bars, springs, and tricky hinges.
Sized to accommodate two sleepers, this sofa converts into a roomy bed with a mattress made from high-density, high-resiliency foam. Along the top, a 1-inch ThermaGel layer works to keep you cool and wick away heat while offering solid back support. Whether used as a couch or a bed, this convertible sofa’s highly durable frame made of kiln-dried engineered hardwood and pine won’t warp or sag. The high-density foam and polyfoam cushions can also withstand plenty of wear.
It’s worth noting, however, that your typical queen-size sheets won’t perfectly fit the mattress inside this sleeper sofa. Because of its unique 68 x 80 inch sizing, the mattress will require special sheets. Additionally, it’s a pricey investment piece—but it’s one that offers a whole lot of versatility, from convenient in-couch storage to a quick-converting pull-out mechanism.

The Article Soma Sofa Bed brings together the roomy seating space of a classic, mid-century modern sectional and all the perks of a sleeper sofa into one living-room-worthy piece. There’s enough room on this sofa for three or four people to relax comfortably atop the well-stuffed cushions filled with high-density foam. The chaise arm, which can be configured to either the left or right side of the couch, offers extra space to stretch out—and under its cushion is a storage spot for essentials like blankets and throw pillows.
Underneath the seats of this sectional sofa, you’ll also find a full-size mattress. A smooth, easy-to-operate pull-out mechanism transforms it into a bed, and the memory foam mattress conforms to sleepers’ bodies. The combination of the sofa’s kiln-dried wood frame and metal bed frame are sturdy and ready for long-term use, too.
While this sectional sleeper sofa pulls out into a full-size mattress, it’s important to note that the mattress isn’t technically a true full. It runs a few inches shorter than your typical full-size mattress, and it’s thinner, too. Over time, customer reviews also mention that the upholstery can begin to pill and show spots of wear.

Lark Manor Rasberry Rolled Arm Sofa Bed Review
What We Like
Multiple color choices
Buttery-soft top grain leather
Sturdy mattress supports
High-end appearance
What We Don't Like
Crafted from genuine top-grain leather, this Lark Manor Raspberry Rolled Arm Sofa Bed is truly as luxurious as it seems. It’s both sumptuous and versatile, thanks to its ability to convert into a queen-size bed with an easy-to-use pull-out mechanism. Classic in its style and available in a range of 13 different shades of leather, it’ll look like a standout no matter where it’s placed.
In our home testing, this sofa impressed immediately upon arrival. With supple softness, it’s comfortable to sink into when you sit on its leather-covered foam cushions. According to our tester, the buttery feel of the leather feels wonderful against the skin. The sofa is sizable, but not large enough to overpower a smaller room. And its lower 33-inch back allows it to take up less real estate.
When you’re ready to convert this leather couch into a sleeping space, you’ll be supported by a metal frame with springs. The mattress offers enough room for two adults, though its weight limit is somewhat low at just 350 pounds. It’s got plenty of space, but the mattress is thinner; it stands just 5.5 inches high, which means some sleepers may want the added cushioning of a topper. While it doesn’t compare to a standard 9- to 12-inch mattress, our tester noted, “While it cannot compare to a regular 9- to 12-inch mattress, we slept reasonably well on it. ”
While getting the couch converted is relatively simple, moving the mattress once it’s out can be tricky, as the mattress is surprisingly heavy. Additionally, one small detail we didn’t love about the sofa itself appears in its cushions. The edges don’t perfectly line up with the seams along the back of the couch. It’s a minor design flaw, but guests likely won’t notice.

What We Don't Like
Inside Raymour & Flanigan’s Charlotte Queen Sleeper, you’ll get the supportive, body-conforming comfort of sleeping on a memory foam mattress—and it’s a cozy couch to lounge on, too. This classic couch with rolled arms is a sleeper sofa that can match most interior aesthetics, thanks to its versatile beige upholstery and easy-to-care-for polyester blend material. The reversible and refillable cushions are stuffed firm with Dacron wrapped foam, and you’ll enjoy the support of a sinuous coil spring system in the seat.
Perhaps the most exciting detail, though, is the queen-size memory foam mattress sitting underneath the sleeper’s cushions. It’s thinner than a standard memory foam mattress, but this pull-out version still offers body-hugging comfort and comfort for sleepers in any position, with decent pressure relief.
While the cushions on this sleeper sofa are nicely firm and supportive upon arrival, they do tend to break in quickly and soften. Within the first year, you may find that they’ve softened significantly. Additionally, if you’re searching for a custom color or fabric option, your choices are limited here; this sofa only comes in one upholstery color and type.

What We Don't Like
If you don’t need a full-sized sofa, but you’d love a versatile piece of furniture, the West Elm Clara Futon will fit the bill. It’s nothing like the futons you remember from college; instead, it’s stylish, modern, and aesthetically pleasing in a variety of colorful shades and upholstery types. And it’s still incredibly easy to convert from sitting space to twin-size bed whenever needed.
In addition to its stylish appearance, this sleeper is well-built. With a sustainably-sourced, FSC-certified wood frame, it’s constructed for durability. The cushions are fiber-filled with high-resiliency polyurethane foam cores and feature high-gauge sinuous springs for extra support. To lay this futon flat, the simple click clack mechanism gets the job done fast. As an added bonus, this sleeper gives you more than a couch and bed in one; lift up the seat cushion, and you’ll find there’s hidden storage space for blankets, pillows, and more.
Because this piece is a true futon and not a full sleeper sofa, keep in mind that it doesn’t offer an actual mattress. Instead, the back folds down to create a flat sleeping surface—and that surface is pretty firm, thanks to the innerspring design that offers support while you’re seated. You’ll definitely want to cover the futon with sheets to protect the velvety upholstery each time it’s used for sleep.

Covered in a polyester blend fabric, this sleeper sofa is made cozy thanks to a supportive solid engineered wood frame and foam-filled cushions (which, as an added perk, are reversible for a longer lifespan). Under the seat, sinuous springs offer support for up to 500 pounds of weight. When you’re ready to convert the couch into a bed, you’ll rest atop an innerspring mattress that stands 6 inches high for a bit of extra support. With enough room for two sleepers, it’s plenty of space to welcome guests—expected or not!
While this sleeper promises to unfurl a queen-size mattress, it does run a little short. At 72 inches long when extended, it’s about eight inches shorter. This means true queen sheets will run large, and taller sleepers may not have enough length. It’s also worth noting that reviewers mention the pull-out mechanism can be sticky at first. After a few uses, it should loosen up, but it does require strength initially.

If you’re in need of extra sleeping space, the Raymour & Flanigan Harris King Sleeper goes big, providing a king-size mattress without requiring an entirely separate bedroom. Compactly packaged inside a classic sofa, you’ll save space and have all of the convenience of a roomy bed for guests (or even yourself!).
With seating for up to three people, this dual-purpose sofa features 100 percent polyester upholstery and rotatable zippered cushions stuffed with Dacron wrapped foam cores. A durable hardwood and pine frame with reinforced joints can support up to 500 pounds of weight. To pull out the king mattress inside, the smooth-gliding mechanism works quickly and with ease, making it a breeze to maneuver. The mattress itself offers a comfortable, supportive night’s sleep thanks to its gel construction, which relieves pressure while cradling the body.
Though the weight isn’t specified for this king sleeper sofa, reviews note that it’s very heavy; you won’t want to try to move it around on your own. As a larger sofa—one with a larger internal mattress and more framing—it’s also more expensive than other options on this list.

Customize your couch’s comfort level—and angle—with CB2’s Flex Gravel Sleeper Sofa, a three-position adjustable piece. Sleek and modern, it’s a sofa that’ll fit right into your living room, spare bedroom, office, or anywhere else. Thanks to its smaller size, it’s a stylish addition for those with limited space. With just a quick adjustment, this lounge-ready couch can lay flat and turn into a comfy sleeping spot. And thanks to its adjustable nature, it can also lean back for reading, watching TV, or simply getting a touch more comfortable while relaxing.
This sleeper sofa adjusts to three positions: upright, angled-back at 45 degrees, or flat. Underneath its tufted poly fabric in dark gray is a real mattress, one with pocketed coil innersprings and high-density foam. There’s enough room for two to sleep comfortably. Supporting the sleeper is a powder-coated hand-welded metal and mesh frame with a polished chrome base.
When you’re ready to hit the hay and lay this sleeper sofa down flat, it offers up a pretty firm surface. If you’re in need of more cushioning, you may want to add a mattress topper to soften it up. Additionally, getting sheets onto this convertible sofa is a bit tricky. Queen sheets offer the closest match, but the unique 49 x 80 inch sizing makes for an imperfect fit.

The 10 Best Daybeds of 2023
Final Verdict
Built for the long haul and comfortable enough to sleep on for a week or longer, the Pottery Barn Cameron Roll Arm Slipcovered Sleeper Sofa is our top pick. While it is an investment with its higher price, in our testing the cushions and mattress held up and remained comfortable and supportive even with daily use. For a sleeper on a budget, the Mopio Chloe Convertible Sleeper Sofa is a great alternative that quickly converts, offers up a firm sleeping surface, and even lets you adjust your sofa’s angle for added comfort day in and out.

Durable Frame
A long-lasting sleeper sofa is one that’s well-built, with a tough frame made from hardy materials. While metal might be your first thought, hardwood is actually the best choice. The strongest, most capable sofa frames are typically made out of hardwood. “The sofa frame itself should be made of kiln-dried hardwoods or furniture-grade plywood,” recommends Castagna.
Material
Comfort is key in a sleeper sofa. When it comes to the mattress inside a sleeper sofa, Castagna recommends opting for an air-over-coil for a combination of support and comfort. Spring mattresses tend to be the most common (and the most affordable), but they aren’t the most comfortable to sleep on. Memory foam mattresses are another option; they’re costly, but they’re also nicely supportive.
Mattress Size
The size of the mattress inside a sleeper sofa can range anywhere from twin to king. Just like traditional mattresses, these convertible couches can offer enough sleeping space for one or more people. If you’re searching for a sofa that’ll fit in an apartment or a small room, a twin-sized mattress may be the best fit. If you have room to spare and want your sleeper sofa to double as a full-size bed, a full, queen, or king mattress will suit your needs.
Easy-to-use Mechanism
Skip the struggle and opt for a sleeper sofa that’s a breeze to lift, pull out, and put away. An easy-to-use pull-out mechanism makes a world of difference, especially when it works smoothly, seamlessly, and without any sharp edges or challenging components.
“Since you are basically just dealing with the shell of a sofa with a mechanism inserted, make sure the mechanism is a quality one,” Castagna notes. Look for details like smooth edges, easy lifting, locks, and easy-to-use pull-out components as you browse. If you’re shopping in-store, test out the sofas you’re considering to judge how smoothly their mechanisms work.

bed dimensions. How to choose a large bed
October 1 2020
In order to have a complete rest and a comfortable sleep, you need to choose the right bed. This concept includes the size and shape of the bed, well-chosen mattress. Today, manufacturers are putting on the market a variety of models of beds that differ in design and appearance. For lovers of freedom, even in a dream, we offer you to look at King Size sleeping furniture.
King size bed: bed dimensions
This term, used to describe the parameters of a bed for two, came to Europe from the Americas. Everyone knows about the love of Americans for everything big. This applies to houses, cars, farm plots, etc. Do not deny themselves the inhabitants of the United States and food. Eating large amounts of food causes people to gain weight. Therefore, I had to pay close attention to the size of the place for a night's rest. And so the concept of "king size" arose.
Beds of this format gradually migrated to the European market. Sensitively responding to consumer requests, manufacturers from Europe began to produce products that were increased in length and width. There are spacious models even square in shape. Our compatriots often associate these beds with something luxurious and expensive, which not everyone can afford to buy.
So what is the specificity of the sizes of the place for a night rest of the royal format? It is important to keep in mind that Americans use inches to measure, while Europeans use centimeters. To avoid confusion, we will immediately translate all indicators into cm here. In Europe, King Size beds are produced in two varieties - king (160 by 200 cm) and super king (180 x 200). There are three kinds of king models in America:
- Standard - 198 by 203.2 cm;
- Eastern - 193 x 203.2;
- California - 183 x 213.3 centimeters.
There is another kind of large beds - queen size. With the same length as the king, the width of the bed of the queen is already about 40 cm less. Its standard size in terms of centimeters is 152.4 x 203.2. This is comparable to our lorry and is an excellent option for young spouses for whom being a partner at a very close distance is quite acceptable. And a queen bed is much cheaper than a king bed. And this is far from important for a newly created family. Also, the queen option is in demand in the presence of a small apartment. nine0003
King bed format
For those who have a bedroom size that allows them to equip it with bulky furniture, manufacturers offer a wide selection of beds with large parameters. The catalog of the OrganicMebel online store has devices for sleeping large sizes of various configurations, so choosing the best option is not difficult. King and Queen Size models can:
- have fairly large headboards, as well as other functional elements; nine0017 be complemented by spacious drawers for linen, which are usually built into the side or bottom of the bed;
- to be completed with additional bedside tables.
There is a wavy version of king size beds. These models have a luxurious look. They are equipped with a rounded curved headboard and a smooth slope in the footboard area. Such beds are relevant for bedrooms equipped with modern ensembles.
Minimalist or high-tech interior will harmoniously fit a large bed of regular square shape. Large oval and round beds look unusual. In diameter, they are at least 200 cm. They are most often bought for bedrooms in summer cottages and country houses. Such beds attract with their originality. nine0003
Manufacturers offer models with and without legs. Sleeping devices of the first option seem visually higher and larger. Outdoor products are usually equipped with very capacious storage systems. King size beds usually come with a high or medium headboard. It can be soft or hard. To give the interior a certain luxury, it is better to choose products with a figured high headboard, covered with leather or velvet.
A four-poster King Size bed will add a touch of mystery and fabulousness to your bedroom. It is usually made of plain light or translucent fabric. A structure, characterized by airiness and lightness, is attached to the ceiling or to boards (profiles) specially installed above the bed. nine0003
King Size beds: healthy sleep and relaxation
To withstand the frantic pace of life of a modern person, the colossal workload of everyday affairs, while remaining healthy, vigorous and cheerful, quality rest and healthy sleep are necessary. In this, a well-chosen sleeping place plays a very important role. For a good rest of both partners, it should be, first of all, spacious.
This is where a king bed comes in handy. In her "open spaces" there is enough space for each of the spouses to settle down with maximum comfort without disturbing their partner. Even the possible insomnia of one of them will not prevent the other from falling asleep peacefully and sleeping until morning. But not only a lot of space is the key to healthy sleep. You have to be serious about choosing a mattress. The best option is a product with orthopedic properties. nine0003
Managers of the online store OrganikFurniture will be able to provide professional assistance in choosing a bed and mattress that best meets all your most, at first glance, incredible requirements and wishes. To receive a consultation, it is enough to order the “Callback” service.
