Feng shui is an ancient Asian wisdom used to optimize the flow of energy in your home. One of those energies is the water element, which is related to wealth, wisdom, and social networks. This is why the bathroom is an area to pay attention to when it comes to feng shui.
Modern bathrooms can be a stark contrast to what they were when feng shui was developed in ancient China. You can imagine that back then, bathrooms were unpleasant areas to be around. Bathrooms get a bad rap because of this and because of the water element (or cash flow) can be flushed down the drain.
Nowadays, contemporary bathrooms are a room to rest, cleanse, and rejuvenate. A bathroom can be a luxurious and spa-like space that supports you. The traditional feng shui approach is definitely something to honor when it comes to your feng shui, but we can also update this wisdom to adapt to modern life. Here are some simple tips to create good feng shui in your bathroom.
Conserve Water
Feng shui is the original green design because it’s a philosophy that connects our home to our environment and nature. On the most basic level, thoughtfully conserving the water that you use in the bathroom creates good energy. Your mindfulness and care in using this precious resource will trickle into the other areas of your life, including how others treat you. This can be as simple as installing water saving devices, taking shorter showers, and repairing leaks.

The toilet has the function of washing away waste and water. It’s one of the areas to pay attention to in regards to your feng shui. In order to mitigate the loss of any resources, keep the toilet seat closed when not in use. As a bonus, this simple habit reduces the humidity and moisture in the bathroom which keeps mold and mildew at a minimum.
Keep the Bathroom Door Closed
Similar to the lid of the toilet, the bathroom door is also another way in which energy can travel into the bathroom and down the drain. In general, for overall good feng shui keep your bathroom door closed. It will help minimize the possibility of good qi from flowing away from you.
Conceal the Toilet
If possible, it’s best to visually conceal the toilet for better feng shui. You can do this by keeping the door closed or designing a bathroom such that you can’t see it from the
Mirror on the Bathroom Door
In most cases, if you can install a mirror on the outside of the bathroom door, it will improve the feng shui. The mirror will energetically erase the bathroom which also removes any feng shui issues.

The main issue with the bathroom is the water flowing away. Since everyone loves plants, a living green houseplant is one of the most popular ways to improve the feng shui of any bathroom. The plant transforms the downward energy of water into vital life energy. Water feeds plants, makes them strong and grow. Plus, it bring in the nature element into this room.
Declutter your Products
Regularly go through the products that you store in the bathroom such as cosmetics, toiletries, and medicines. These products have a shelf life, so let go of anything that’s expired or no longer required. First of all, you don’t want to use expired products. On a feng shui level, what you have stored in your home affects your health and well being. So even if you’re not using it, it’s affecting your energy.
Kate Sears/Getty ImagesReplace your Towels
Towels can begin to accumulate bacteria and odors. If possible, deep clean them. But eventually you will need to replace them. Old towels are great to repurpose for cleaning rags. When you do replace your towels and other bathroom linens, opt for sustainable, organic, and non-toxic products. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and you absorb the energetics of the materials you put on it! Similarly, your home and feng shui is also affected by the quality of and life energy of the materials in the bathroom.
Deep Clean Regularly
Since the bathroom is a room to cleanse and purify the body, be sure to deep clean the room regularly. Use non-toxic and sustainable cleaning products as much as possible. It’s super easy to make your own DIY cleaning products and also many on the market. You can think about your bathroom like your body. Let’s keep it clean and pay attention to it!
The Feng Shui Home: how to get a Feng Shui style bathroom
The west surrenders to Asian culture with Feng Shui style. An age-old Chinese philosophy with a Taoist origin which is based on the conscious and harmonious occupation of space so that atmospheres exert a positive influence on the lives of its occupants.
This Eastern tradition emphasises the importance of shades, the arrangement of space and the orientation of objects when maintaining and enhancing the positive energy of the atmospheres. A Philosophy which requires special expertise in the bathroom, since according to the experts, this is a space marked by an energy leak, caused by the large number of drains and water in motion.
At Noken Porcelanosa Bathrooms, we help you get a bathroom with the purest Feng Shui style, with simple suggestions that will provide your bathroom with both balance and peace.
Positive energy: the importance of feng shui in the bathroom
"A haven, a temple to self-care and pampering your body and mind". That is the basic concept behind feng shui in the bathroom, and why it's so important.
It's without doubt one of the most important rooms in our homes. And it isn't just about cleanliness and body care, it goes deeper: it's sometimes the only place where you can take time out and relax, disconnect with the outside world, (re)connect with yourself, and let your mind (re)connect with your emotions.
Feng Shui in the bathroom: practical tips on styleSome of the basic concepts when considering Feng Shui style are: the bathroom door cannot be in front of the mirror and drains and doors must always be closed so that the energy does not bounce or go outside.
In terms of decoration, it is crucial to include natural elements such as plants, ceramic vases and fresh flowers; as well as elements that evoke good memories for the user such as pictures of loved ones or aromatic candles.

5 tips for a feng shui bathroom
1 - Location matters.
Did you know that having your bathroom in the north position of your home is the best option, linking it closest to the water element? When you're planning a bathroom renovation or house build, this is definitely something to think about. And there are more considerations, including locating your feng shui bathroom as far from your front door as possible.
2 – En-suite bathrooms?
Feng shui dictates that you shouldn't locate your bathroom adjacent to you and your partner's bedroom. This layout in effect mixes relationship energies with cleanliness and hygiene energies. If you can't avoid it, make sure you always keep your bathroom door closed.
3 - Separate your toilet from the rest of the bathroom
Symbolically, it's advisable to isolate the toilet from the rest of your bathroom elements if at all possible. You could do this with a screen or a pony wall, for example.
In terms of energy, feng shui considers bathrooms to have the lowest flow.
4 - Adjust your mirror
You want to see a good reflection of yourself, so make sure you hang your bathroom mirror correctly and pay attention to lighting. It should be a decent size, be high quality and not distorted in any way.
5 - Water as a representation of wealth.
In the bathroom, water - a symbol of wealth - is in abundance. Beware of leaks: they could symbolise your cash flow.
6 - Feng shui bathroom lighting should be soft and harmonious to create a calming ambience, but you should make sure you have more direct light around the mirror so you can see yourself clearly, as we mentioned before.
Feng Shui colours: Colour miscellany with shower heads with chromotherapyIf there is something that characterises Feng Shui style, then it is colour. This oriental philosophy avoids cold colours such as white, black, grey or blue, and it banks on vibrant chromatic tonalities and earthy colours.
You should also steer clear of colours that represent the fire element (red and orange) as they work in opposition to the water element, which of course reigns supreme in this space, as we mentioned.
Colour guide for your feng shui bathroomYellow: inspires communication and sociability. Combined with white to avoid overloading the space, this is a blend that radiates positive energy.
Green: represents hope, and is linked with relaxation. This is a cooler colour, so it should be combined with warmer tones, through your bathroom furniture for example (wood) or towels and other textiles.
Blue: forget about very strong hues, and go for much softer pastel shades. This is the perfect colour for a feng shui bathroom as it's intrinsically linked to water and purity. As with green, you should introduce warm or earthy versions of this colour.
Purple and lilac: always soft, these are particularly appropriate colours for a feng shui bathroom. Created using a mix of red and blue these colours blend warm and cold tones, meaning they balance the best of both, marrying to perfection with decorative accents in shades of green - plants for example.
White: white comes in so many shades, and ones with ochre pigmentation are perfect for a feng shui bathroom: they have welcoming feel, and are the perfect option if you want to go for a white bathroom but don't want it to feel cold or sterile. Blending it with wood, wicker accessories or plants represents another winning combination.
Feng Shui decoration: opting for rounded shapesThe furniture, accessories and bathroom equipment with rounded shapes help peace and quiet to flow through the space. That is why the Feng Shui style advocates rounded designs such as those found in the: Arquitect, Lounge, Forma or Tono collection by Fosters and Partners; as well as inspiring sets like the comprehensive design from the Vitae collection. Architectural elements made by Zaha Hadid which denote dynamic and fluid forms inspired by the movement of water. An organic energy dance where the mirror, the basin, the bathtub, the taps, the shower or even the toilets lead the way in creating a unique atmosphere full of exclusivity and wellness.
Safety at every turn
To contribute to the flow of Chi, spaces must make people’s lives easier. Places without obstacles or steps that may endanger their safety. For this, the Project floor-level shower trays are ideal, infinite and comprehensive designs that blend in with the space offering the user a safe and functional shower experience, without unevenness breaking the energy of the space.
Materials: wood and metalWood and metal are two main materials in every Feng Shui style atmosphere. Coins are traditionally made from metal and that is why this represents prosperity in Feng Shui. As well as that, wood symbolises growth and life; and it encourages the existence of fire, an element that together with water and the earth, has to be present in all spaces so that there is balance.
Opting for wooden bathroom furniture with sinuous shapes and metal light fixtures is one of the most ideal options for achieving the perfect harmony of the Feng Shui style in the bathroom. Precisely, the bathroom furniture from the Pure Line collection combines natural aged oak wood with a metallic structure.
Light fixtures that radiate energy
Chromotherapy shower heads by Noken Porcelanosa Bathrooms can be used to create an ambience of pure energy in the bathroom. These pieces are designed to take your shower experience to the next level.
Lounge Wellness shower heads, with their different flow options (rain, column and waterfall) and explosion of colours, will create an atmosphere that radiates comfort and harmony.
Another important aspect of this philosophy is that spaces must be properly illuminated both by day and night with indirect and ambient lighting which create a personal and harmonious climate. For this purpose, LED light fixtures for mirrors are ideal, since they provide the room with the right amount of light to create a calm and subdued atmosphere, as well as enough light to be able carry out the daily care routine.
General guidelines of a philosophy that requires experts to carry out an exhaustive diagnosis of the needs of each space, thus creating a harmonious and experiential atmosphere as only the Feng Shui style can create.
Bathroom and Feng Shui philosophy.
In order to make your bathroom the most comfortable and functional, already at the initial stage, consider the simplest rules of Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is a whole science about the culture of life and human life. Its beginning comes from the general concepts of everything that surrounds a person, and this is important for the formation of the right energy. The main task of Feng Shui is to attract Qi energy so that it has a beneficial effect on our work and life.
The right movement of energy in the bathroom is just as important as in other areas of the house. Our mood, like that of other family members, is formed in the bathroom, where we meet a new day and see off the old one. A large amount of energy is concentrated here, which ultimately affects our well-being and family relationships.
We often encounter this problem. We work almost seven days a week, nerves and strength are at the limit, but there is still not enough money. Money seems to flow between the fingers.
How does Feng Shui philosophy “look” at these problems?
Before building a house or buying an apartment, pay attention to the location of the bathroom. It should be located as far as possible from the entrance. The farther from the main central and powerful energy flows, the better. According to Feng Shui, the bathroom should ideally be the closing point of the entire energy flow of the house.
Only “used” and unnecessary energy should get into the bathroom. Do not be surprised at constant troubles if the location of the toilet or bathroom is completely wrong, and they are located almost in the center of the apartment.
Therefore, the adjoining room and bath must be positioned so as to avoid unexpected obstructions and embarrassments.
If the toilet and bathroom are adjacent, the toilet must not be seen first when we open the door. The toilet lid should always be closed, as well as the doors in the bathroom. According to Feng Shui, if we do not fulfill these requirements, we will constantly encounter failures.
Pay attention to the lighting. Bright lighting will make the Qi energy the strongest, which can charge a person with emotions and a joyful mood. Dim and "muffled" light will weaken it and create a different atmosphere in the bathroom, more intimate and relaxing.
Mirrors are those items that redistribute Qi energy very actively. They are capable of both increasing and decreasing space. One large mirror is always better than two small ones. It is not recommended to install mirrors opposite each other.
The best option is when the mirror is in a frame, as it is able to retain positive energy. In this case, it does not disperse it, but concentrates it, directing it in the right direction.
If the mirrors are always clean, then the energy that is reflected from them will be the same. It is better not to hang them in front of doors or windows so that the energy does not go outside. Never leave a cracked or broken mirror in the bathroom.
Black or mirrored wall tiles are not recommended. Perfect for decorating the walls of the bath a beautiful image of nature.
Impeccable and tidy appearance of the bathroom, perfectly matched plumbing, unusual and soft-touch objects contribute to the proper distribution of Qi energy.
Bathroom accessories should be carefully matched to the style of the entire room and be as functional as possible. A bunch of bottles and tubes in plain sight is a stagnation of negative energy, which is unacceptable in the correct understanding of Feng Shui philosophy.
Good indoor air circulation has a significant effect on the balance and distribution of energy. It is worth carefully approaching this issue when repairing bathrooms. The air must always be clean and fresh.
Water - perfectly stores information. The water we use must always be clean. She is a kind of tuning fork that tunes to the general condition of our house. The human body is more than 70% water, in infants this figure is 90%.
Water can be figuratively compared to Qi energy. If the water is clean, flows smoothly and gently, it gives a person a calm life. If water, like mountain rivers, is stormy and unpredictable, this constant tension and threat to life. If the water is not purified and becomes a real swamp, it is a source of diseases and various troubles.
In the bathroom, a person not only takes water procedures, but also cleanses his body from the negative energy accumulated in the body. Dirty water and waste, harmful energy go down the drain.
In order to save space, a rectangular type bath is usually installed. However, an oval or round bathroom that resembles a curved coin is the most ideal. This option in the teachings of Feng Shui is considered the most favorable for the arrival of wealth.
You can talk a lot about the philosophy of Feng Shui. It certainly has a lot of useful and necessary things. In any case, it is worth considering what for many centuries has benefited people and made their life happy and joyful. Good health to you and your family.

A bathroom and a toilet are sure to fall into some important Feng Shui zone on the apartment plan (and "unimportant", in general, do not exist). And when they get in, they “spoil” it. In other words, symbolically, all luck, happiness, money, love - in a word, all good things - simply merges into the sewer pipe.
Since it is basically impossible to live without a toilet and a bathroom, we will be saved by the correct (from the point of view of Feng Shui) design and decor of these rooms. A number of simple actions will help you level, and in some cases even reduce to zero, the energy losses of a particular zone.
What cannot be fixed by any Feng Shui:
- If you have a two-story house, and the toilet is on the second floor, above the office and bedroom (it's hard to imagine, but sometimes it happens) - this arrangement of rooms is extremely unfavorable and correct here nothing already. It is necessary to move: in this case, absolutely all the luck from the office and bedroom is simply washed off into the pipe. Under the bathroom there should be another bathroom, as is done in typical apartment buildings.
- If the layout is such that the "toilet-bathroom" block is located right in the center of the apartment (very rarely, but it also happens) - this is also not amenable to adjustment.
We are able to correct all other shortcomings. How? - Let's talk about that.

1. No mirror tiles
Firstly, from the point of view of Feng Shui, it kind of symbolically cuts the space and you along with it. Secondly, again symbolically, the mirror is water. The bathroom is full of water. Why do you need extra? If there is more of it than necessary, it will simply flood and wash away all the positive that has accumulated in the apartment with such difficulty.
SOLUTION :
Do not use mirror tiles. We choose just white (ideally), or any neutral background.
Habachy Designs
In the example in the photo, the situation is aggravated by the facet (decorative edge) along the edge of each mirror tile: if you look into this mirror wall, you will “break” into hundreds of parts. At first, just in reflection, but over time it will begin to affect your emotional state. Because, according to Feng Shui, everything is interconnected: external and internal.

2. Never use a mirror on the ceiling
With this design, water, figuratively speaking, floods you from above. In this case, there is also a massive lamp suspended and right above the person sitting in the bath. According to Feng Shui, nothing, anywhere and ever, should looming menacingly and directly over you. Not in the bathroom, not in the bedroom, not in the office, nowhere. For the subconscious perceives this as a threat, but in life it is embodied in the form of unexpected obstacles.
SOLUTION:
We use light bulbs built into the ceiling and never make the ceiling mirror.
Pepe Calderin Design- Modern Interior Design
In the example in the photo, the mirrored ceiling is assembled from separate panels (from the point of view of Feng Shui, it divides you into parts). But this is not enough: the ceiling here also has a dark shade. What does this mean in feng shui? - Imagine that streams of sewage are symbolically pouring on you ... Conclusions suggest themselves: in the bathroom, ceilings are preferable, simple, white, without noticeable gloss, and even more so not mirrored.

3. Balance Black
According to Feng Shui, black is also symbolically associated with water. Too much water in the bathroom is not necessary. Especially on the floor.
SOLUTION:
Ideally, we put terracotta tiles on the floor (it symbolizes the earth and in the Feng Shui language it will “absorb” excess water). Furniture and plumbing is better to choose light colors.
Laura U Design Collective
4. Be modest in the bathroom
Feng shui is not the place to display wealth. An attempt to make the interior of the bathroom chic, in the manner of Versailles boudoirs - all these crystal chandeliers, luxurious accessories, rich finishes - are symbolically “washed away” into the drain. If sooner or later financial well-being is shaken, we advise you first of all to remove all the attributes of wealth from the bathroom and decorate it more modestly.
SOLUTION:
Making the bathroom as utilitarian as possible. The most luxurious thing that is allowed there, from the point of view of Feng Shui, is the aromas floating in the air. Here you can think about them: aromas do not merge into the sewer. Buy scented candles, display perfumes in beautiful crystal bottles on the shelves, actively use interior diffusers!
Julie Williams Design
From a Feng Shui perspective, the ideal bathroom is something like the one pictured. It's boring, but no frills of decor send your money, health or love down the drain. If in the zone of love, then love will fly away, if in the zone of well-being, then wealth, and so on. Main zones 9For more details, read the article about their meaning.

5. Alomu - yes
How to keep energy? Everything is simple. It holds up well in red. Or rather, some of the items in the bathroom are red. It can be a red rug thrown on the floor, some red bathroom accessories. In the example in the photo, a red cabinet under the sink is used - an excellent solution from the point of view of Feng Shui.
SCE Construction Management Inc.
Also a good option: paint the wall near the toilet in red - such a surface will symbolically hold energy. Only now it is better to remove these decorative decorations from the wall. I have already said this, but I repeat: according to Feng Shui, nothing should hang over the head of a sitting or lying person
HomeStory Doors of Orange County
6. Hanging a mirror ... on the door
Another way to fight for energy is symbolically “remove” the bathroom-toilet block altogether. This is done with mirrors. You can hang a large (or small) mirror directly on the bathroom door
The mirror can be hung on the door from any side - not only outside, but also inside the bathroom. In the example in the photo, the mirror was placed inside the bathroom, but, from the point of view of Feng Shui, it may also be needed outside.
Pay close attention to what is reflected in the mirror on the door. In the example in the photo, it turns out that when the door is closed, the internal mirror begins to “look” into the reflection above the sink and will form an endless corridor. It is believed that this is unfavorable, since it opens various portals that should not be opened at all. Therefore, we confine ourselves to a mirror from the outside.
It is extremely important that the mirror on the bathroom door does not reflect the front door at the same time. Because it will reflect the auspicious incoming energy. Yes! There are many details, and everything must be taken into account. But it's worth it!
Colin Cadle Photography
If your layout does not allow for a mirror on the door, you can most likely hang a mirror composition on the wall separating the bathroom from the corridor (approximately as it was done in the photo).
Michael Abrams Interiors
But even with mirrors, it is very important to observe the measure. An example of this interior is quite indicative: the area of the room is large, many other objects begin to be reflected in the mirrors on the wall, including stairs, windows, doors, partitions of other rooms. And this is another story.
Everything in feng shui is symbolic and interconnected: for example, you have been correcting the feng shui of the bathroom for a long time. Finally, everything is fixed, you are happy and wipe the sweat from your forehead .
