Juicing fruits and veggies is a refreshing, convenient, and delicious way to get a wide array of nutrients from fresh produce. You can use just one type of fruit or veggie, find your favorite combination, and even mix the juice into cocktails or mocktails. Both traditional centrifugal juicers and slower-speed cold press juicers (also called masticating juicers) can help you whip up a tasty and nutritious beverage, but there are key differences between the two.

Tested & Approved

The Nama Cold Press Juicer is the best overall pick based on our extensive lab testing, producing the best-quality juices every time and being easier to use and clean than most competitors. If you're looking for a budget pick that also makes high-quality juice, the AMZCHEF Slow Masticating Juicer stood out to our testers as an incredible value.

Centrifugal juicers use high-speed spinning blades, which some studies suggest can create heat that destroys heat-sensitive nutrients found in fresh produce and certain fruits. Cold press models, on the other hand, slowly crush and squeeze produce. Because of the lack of heat and speed, they’re also quieter than their centrifugal counterparts.

We brought some of the best cold press juicers on the market to our Lab to put them to the test. To do so, we made several glasses of three juice combinations: orange-carrot juice, strawberry-pineapple juice, and green juice with kale, cucumber, and apple. Then, we evaluated each juicer based on attributes like design, performance, and ease of cleaning.

Based on data we collected from our lab tests, as well as from the kitchens of our home testers, we compiled a list of the best options to help you decide.

What We Like

What We Don't Like

Who else recommends it? Food & Wine and NBC News both picked the Nama Cold Press Juicer Vitality 5800.

This juicer impressed us throughout the entire lab testing process. The assembly instructions were easy, and everything was clearly labeled. The chute was large enough to accommodate whole carrots and tall stalks of celery without chopping, and minimal effort was required to push ingredients through.

Leafy greens, a notoriously tricky ingredient for most juicers, had very few issues in this one and only occasionally needed to be helped along a bit with the plunger. Strawberries, which are another item that can be hard to juice, only needed a little nudge and a little reversing to get beautiful, viscous strawberry juice. The carrot juice came out a beautiful orange with no hints of pulp and a lovely consistency. After all of that, the machine was easy to clean, with only a little bit of pulp stuck in the mesh strainer.

This machine comes with three different strainers, so you can use the juicer to make more than just juice; you can make smoothies, plant-based milk, and frozen desserts like sorbet and nice cream.

The only downside to this juicer is that there was a little bit of wobbling and squeaking while it was in use, but not enough to be bothersome.

“There wasn't a lot of pulp remaining in the chamber after juicing. It produced high-yielding juice, and all the juices were delicious and smooth.”

What We Like

What We Don't Like

Despite being significantly less expensive than most masticating juicers, this one's quality proved to be on par with high-end models. Our lab testers noted that all the juices they made (carrot-orange juice, green juice, and strawberry juice) came out beautifully and with a nice consistency. They noted that the instructions for setup and use were very easy and that the machine was not wobbly or overly noisy.

One downside was that most ingredients needed to be pre-chopped more than was needed for other juicers. Because of the juicer's slow speed, some ingredients, like oranges and carrots, needed a little more pushing or reversing to be fully moved through the machine. That being said, nothing got stuck, even for the green juice.

This juicer's design is sleek and space-efficient, with a mess-free spout. The pieces come apart easily for cleaning, but the strainer needs a lot of scrubbing, and the cleaning brush could be coarser to get food particles out more easily. The juicer doesn't come with many extra features but can handle wheatgrass as well as nuts for making plant-based milk.

Kuvings is known for its line of high-end juicers and blenders. This model is the most expensive on our list, but if you value luxe and innovative features, you’ll appreciate the finer details of this juicer. With a leather-like finish available in black, gunmetal, rose gold, and champagne, it’s designed to be displayed on countertops. It operates quietly at 50 RPMs, and one of the most notable features is the extra-wide two-way feed chute, which allows you to juice whole fruits and vegetables with less pre-cutting.

This juicer comes with strainer attachments to make juice, smoothies, frozen sorbets, nut milk, and baby food. There’s also a citrus attachment sold separately that transforms the juicer into a motorized citrus reamer. Our lab testers were impressed by how well ingredients went through the juicer without needing to use the plunger.

Cleaning was mostly easy thanks to the tools included to clean the strainer, although the lid was a bit tricky to remove. The juicer is heavy but extremely sturdy, with no wobbling or dripping.

Hurom H-AA Slow Juicer Review

The Hurom H-AA Slow Juicer is a high-end machine worthy of its price tag. It's a very powerful juicer that churns out juice efficiently yet is still very quiet during operation. If you or others at home have sensory difficulties with loud appliances or like to make juice while others are sleeping, this is a great choice.

Our lab testers noted that the design is sturdy and that most ingredients went through the machine with no issues. The quality of juice from our tests was mostly very good—two out of three juices didn't separate, which was rare—though testers also noted that the machine was difficult to assemble and clean.

Our home tester noted that this juicer worked well with hard, soft, and medium-density produce, from apples to carrots to kale to watermelon, and it also did well with making frozen desserts. She noted that the feed tube was small and felt that some of the included accessories weren't useful, but highly recommended the juicer overall.

Omega Cold Press 365 Juicer Review

The Omega Cold Press 365 Juicer breaks the mold for masticating juicers by packing a good amount of power into a smaller, lighter machine with an affordable price tag to match. It has enough power to juice everything from carrots to apples to leafy greens, and it's user-friendly. This juicer doesn't come with many additional features, which keeps things simple and efficient.

In our Lab tests, testers noted that they did need to cut ingredients like oranges and apples to fit into the small feed tube but that it could handle most whole carrots and celery stalks. Apples and berries needed to be pushed through more aggressively, but other ingredients, including greens, went through with no problem. The juices all came out very well, although the pulp could have been dryer and the carrot-orange juice we made had a tiny bit of pulp in the finished product.

The setup was very easy, other than one piece that wasn't mentioned in the manual and remained a mystery to our Lab testers. Our home tester agreed that the process of setup, use, cleaning, and storage was simple and that this model is a winner for casual juicers and those with space or budget constraints.

What We Like

What We Don't Like

This incredibly versatile machine can make nut butters, pâté, sorbet, sauces, and more, in addition to delicious fruit and veggie juice. This juicer was designed to handle leafy greens and wheatgrass better than the competition, so if you're a fan of green juice, this could be for you. It has a large countertop footprint, so it's best for people with a lot of kitchen space or who like to make juice on a regular basis.

Our lab testers noted that some ingredients needed more force to go through the juicer, and many required pre-cutting. There was a decent amount of foam, a slightly wetter pulp, and a little pulp in some of the juices, but all of the juices came out with great flavor and consistency. This juicer does not come with a pulp collection container, so you can use any bowl or glass measuring cup you have on hand.

One downside to this machine is that it takes a long time to clean; our testers noted that pulp can get on the machine and cause staining. The instructions can also be hard to follow and are printed in a small font, but once you get the hang of setup and use, this juicer is a great choice.

What We Like

What We Don't Like

Technically any juicer on this list can be used in households of all sizes, but we couldn’t help but be charmed by this individual-sized model from Hurom. Our testers were impressed by the low-pulp, high-juice yield and said it juiced both hard and soft produce, along with leafy greens, equally well. Our lab testers noted that although it was not the easiest to clean and the setup instructions were vague, it was easy to use once put together and produced high-quality juice. They also enjoyed its quiet operation.

This vertical-style juicer can hold a maximum capacity of just under 12 fluid ounces—if you want to make larger quantities, you’ll have to do it in batches. But if you’re looking for a quick way to make a glass of juice for one, it’s perfect. It’s got a compact size that should fit easily in a small kitchen and is available in three fresh, fun colors, including mint, pink, and white.

What We Like

What We Don't Like

If you like to make small batches of juice at a time with a machine that takes up minimal counter space, the Dash Deluxe is perfect. If you want to make larger batches, you'll have to empty the pulp basket, which fills up quickly. The machine is very intuitive to put together, use, and take apart, and suction cups help hold it to the table.

Our lab testers had good results with each juice they made in this juicer; the pulp was fairly dry overall, and there was minimal foam in the finished product. They noted that you need to pre-cut your produce and that the juicer is not one of the quieter ones on this list. It does better with softer fruits than harder veggies overall (kale stems struggled a bit to go through), so if you like juices made of watermelon, pineapple, cucumber, and berries, this may be a good option for you.

This juicer is pretty easy to clean and comes with a compact frozen dessert attachment.

How We Tested

We tested 19 juicers side by side in our Lab and evaluated their ease of use, durability, performance, design, versatility, quality of juice, ease of cleaning, and overall value. Our testers used each juicer to make a carrot-orange juice, a green juice, and a pineapple-strawberry juice. They took note of details like whether they had to pre-cut the produce, if anything got stuck or needed a lot of hands-on effort to go through the machine, and how long the process took. Afterward, they checked to see how much juice was extracted, how dry the pulp was, how much foam (if any) was present in the finished juices, and if there was any mess involved. They also took note of whether or not there were any issues with assembling the juicer, taking it apart to clean, and re-assembling it to store.

We also sent several cold press juicers to our home testers, who evaluated them with the same criteria.

What to Look for in a Cold Press Juicer

Method of Extraction

This is the first thing to consider when selecting a juicer. As mentioned, centrifugal juicers use high-speed spinning blades to quickly chop produce and extract juice, but they can create heat that some studies suggest destroys heat-sensitive nutrients. They tend to extract less juice and leave less moisture in the pulp.

Slow juicers, also called cold press or masticating juicers, work at much slower speeds to crush and squeeze produce. They result in higher juice yields, drier pulp, and smoother, less foamy juice. This slower speed and lack of heat make them quieter than centrifugal models. That being said, they're often more expensive.

Quality of Juice

Some juicers allow lots of pulp and foam to get into the finished product, while others produce juice with a smooth consistency. The flavor of your juice will also be impacted by the quality of your juicer, as some juicers don't work as well with certain types of produce and will give you less juice (and therefore less flavor) from those ingredients.

Ease of Cleaning

Juicers can be notoriously labor-intensive appliances to clean, so choosing one that's easier to clean will likely impact how much you'll end up using it. Often, juicer parts are not dishwasher-safe, so if a machine comes with a cleaning brush that works well on its strainer, that can be a big help. When there are lots of complex parts and places for pulp to get stuck, or when the juicer doesn't come with a drip catcher or pulp catcher, things can get a lot more chaotic. Dry pulp is also a lot harder to clean, so cleaning your juicer immediately after use can make a huge difference.

Size

Juicers can take up quite a bit of counter space, and some models include extra parts and accessories that need to be stored separately. There are horizontal and vertical models depending on how much free counter space you have, so see which one is easy to store in your kitchen setup.

Power

Another consideration when buying a cold press juicer is the amount of wattage the model offers. If you're making juice with leafy green vegetables, you need a juicer that has at least 400 watts of power. Also, consider how much juice you're making at a time. For larger batches, a juicer with higher wattage would be a good choice, especially since cold press juicers work at slower speeds.

Design

An important design point for consideration is the width of the feed tube. The wider the chute, the less chopping you'll have to do to make your produce fit. Not only does this cut down on your work, but cutting up the ingredients exposes more of the surface to air and increases oxidation, which brings the nutritional value down.

Another factor to consider is versatility; some juicers are designed to be able to make frozen desserts, smoothies, nut milks, nut butters, and more, whereas others are intended to just make juice. Whether a more versatile model or a basic model is the right choice for you will depend on what you're looking to make.

FAQs

Does cold-pressed juice taste different from juice from a centrifugal machine?

The taste is similar, but the juice from a centrifugal machine separates more quickly because of the oxidation resulting from the higher speeds. It also yields less product than a cold press juicer.

How long does cold-pressed juice last?

Generally, cold-pressed juice can last three to five days if refrigerated properly in an airtight glass container. The acid in the juice can degrade plastic containers, and air will oxidize the juice, degrading the nutrients. Juice from centrifugal models lasts only 24 hours.

According to Alyssa Pike, RD, manager, nutrition communications at the International Food Information Council, “Cold-pressed juice in its raw form only has a shelf life of three to four days before microbes begin to spoil it. To solve this problem, most of the [packaged] cold-pressed juices on the market have undergone a method known as high-pressure processing (HPP). In HPP, already-bottled juices are submerged in cold water under high pressure, which kills pathogens and increases the shelf life from three to five days to 30 to 45 days.”

Can you freeze cold-pressed juice?

You can, but it's better to make an amount you can consume within a couple of days because the freezing and thawing cause oxidation that can deplete the nutrient content of the juice.

Why does cold-pressed juice separate?

It's a natural process for cold-pressed juice to separate. It's good as long as you have kept it refrigerated and it is not past its expiration window (three to five days for homemade cold-pressed juice). Just give it a shake and enjoy.

What ingredients can you cold press?

Your options are wide open on what fruit, veggies, and herbs to cold press. Produce with less water content, such as leafy greens, can be more tricky to juice, but some juicers manage to get a surprising amount out of juice a handful of kale or a bunch of wheatgrass. Check out some of these tasty juice recipes for inspiration.

Best cold press juicer 2022: tested by our appliance experts

Choose the best cold press juicer as a delicious and refreshing way to pack your diet full of nutrients. Designed to squeeze the flavorful juices out of fruits and vegetables, cold press juicers (also known as masticating juicers or slow juicers) are the healthiest way to juice.

This is because the slow juicing process mimics chewing to gently extract the juice from fruit while maintaining the pulp and fibers that your gut will love. These fibers are often destroyed in centrifugal juicers, which work a lot more like a blender to blitz through vegetables in record time.

I (Millie Fender, Homes & Gardens' Reviews Editor) tested these slow juicers alongside our product testing team; we have had hands-on experience of each one, putting them through their paces with a number of ingredients, monitoring the quality of results. We also rated them by ease of use and cleaning, price and, of course, looks.

Below, you will find only our top picks of the best cold press juicers from NutriBullet, Breville, Ninja, Hurom, and others we've tried hands-on. Many also feature in our guide to the best juicers.

Why you should buy it: It may be a little pricey, but the quality, functionality and juicing results are second to none.

'This juicer was a consistently high-performer, with enough power to make smoothies, nut milk and more,' says our product tester Camryn. She loved how the wide two-way feed chute made preparation easy and quick, how it squeezed as much juice as possible out of each ingredient and noted how almonds turned out like powder once they went through the auger.

Why you should buy it: Cute design and compact build; great for personal juicing.

'I loved how compact his Hurom juicer is (97.6in x 6.9in x 15.5in to be specific),' says staff product tester Jacly. 'It's easy to stash away when not in use, though small capacity means it's best suited to personal juicing. '

The 43 RPM replicates the slow juicing you'd get from hand squeezing but with a lot less mess. 'It's able to extract plenty of juice and pushes mostly dry pulp out of the second tube, while the main chute pours smooth and delicious concoctions including orange juice, apple juice, and even strawberry. I was very impressed by extraction in testing,' reports Jaclyn.

'While it's a slow juicer I also felt that my juice was ready in no time at all. There is only one-speed setting and you just drop your fruit or vegetables into the (narrow) feeding chute to get started. So easy to use.

'Other bonus features include the fact it can make nut milk from soaked nuts. There are two strainers included so you can choose how pulpy you would like your drink to be. All in all, it's an excellent all-rounder.

The downsides? 'The feeding chute on the HP is quite small, and you'll also want to allow extra time for cleanup,' says Jaclyn.

Auger is tricky to remove

Why you should buy it: Quality design; easy to clean.

Our tester Courtney was impressed by the steel-tipped auger, which is durable enough to work through whole fruits and vegetables. 'The motor is nice and gentle, which is perfect for those who want as much health benefit as possible,' she says.

The juicer comes with a 24-oz juice cup and a generous pulp container. There is also a no-drip spout.  It's also worth noting that the 7in X 6.25in X 17in dimensions will make this very easy to store.

'You can remove most parts and put them through the dishwasher, which makes cleaning up a real breeze,' says Courtney. 'I thought the assembly was relatively straightforward, and compared to a lot of cold press juicers it was also easy to take apart after I was done. The auger was a little tricky to remove, not one for those who aren't able to put their back into pulling it away from the machine.'

Lots of fruit prep required

Why you should buy it: Great price point; easy-clean design.

I loved the three different filters which are color-coded and easy to switch out. They allowed me to adjust the pulp level, which meant I could make morning shots with lots of pulp or a fine juice of orange or apple.

All removable parts can also go in the dishwasher, which is rare for many of the best cold press juicers.

I think this is the best budget-friendly cold press juicer on the market. It does struggle when compared to more expensive models when it comes to juicing though. The chute is somewhat small, and I had to chop our fruit quite finely to get an easy output.

It's also easier if you remove the skin from your apples before using this juicer, which can be annoying, but does result in a very fibrous and nutritious juice.

Ejection chute can clog

Why you should buy it: Streamlined design; lightweight; versatile.

What our reviewer Camryn loved about this juicer was the handy set of interchangeable strainers, which allowed her to make ice cream or tofu, or add in ingredients like nuts or seeds to her juices.

'The 150-watt motor (almost) silently,' reports Camryn. 'It performs wonderfully at just 43 RPM to mimic hand squeezing. In my trials, I got every last bit of goodness out of my fruit and veg, and I was impressed at how dry the resulting pulp felt.

'Clean-up is pretty quick thanks to easy disassembly (and re-assembly for that matter) as well as a convenient drying rack. The inner spinning brush helps to stay on top of things, rotating during juicing to clean the chamber and strainer simultaneously. This ultimately reduces clogging and increases juicing efficiency. If you plan to juice later, you can simply run some water through it to clean it through, and wash it through at the end of the day.'

The one downside to keeping such a small footprint is that the H-AA’s capacity is on the smaller side compared to the competition, meaning output isn’t as great as you might find elsewhere; Camryn also found the chute a little small. 'In fact, I did notice that the ejection chute can clog up quite easily, so be on standby to clean it out as you juice,' she concludes.

Why you should buy it: Space smart, stronger-than-average motor and a wide feeding chute.

There are two-speed settings, both of which are on the slow side. However, it helps make it really easy to use, so you can be juicing within minutes of unpacking it.

It’s pretty compact, so won’t take up much space on your countertop. The three-inch feeding chute can fit whole apples in theory, but the instructions specify that you need to remove seeds before juicing.

Most parts of the Breville Big Squeeze Slow Juicer cannot go in the dishwasher. That said, even when hand washing, it’s pretty easy to clean and dry, without too many places for debris to collect.

Other juicers have more powerful motors at this level

Why you should buy it: Incredibly versatile; powerful motor.

Offering 80 rotations per minute under a 150W motor, it’s an absolute workhorse, all without getting overheated or noisy in the process.

It offers five adjustable settings to maximize its performance to what it is you’re juicing with a range to make citrus juice, green juice, and nut butter, as well as grind coffee or mush-down baby food. Despite all its settings, it’s simple enough to use, though its horizontal design does mean it takes up a little more space on the kitchen counter.

Its standout chrome finish looks lovely, if you can make the space though, and has been treated to stand up against the acidity of citrus juices that can cause tarnishing.

It’s a considerable investment, but considering Omega’s industry-leading 15-year warranty, you can at least buy in confidence.

Why you should buy it: Does it all and then some

The Kuvings is powered by a 240-watt motor capable of a silent 60RPM, which balances efficiency and juice quality perfectly.

As well as a juicer, the C7000S can do its bit as a standard processor too, thanks to a number of different strainers that come in the box. This allows you to make things like smoothies and sorbets, plus there’s an extra-fine strainer for chomping through wheatgrass and keeping pulp to a minimum.

If that sounds messy, the three included cleaning tools should help facilitate getting it all washed up and ready to go again. It isn’t dishwasher safe though, so something to bear in mind if time is of the essence.

The chrome accents on the machine are anti-corrosive to protect against citrus juice, while the main body is available in an attractive choice of red, silver or gold. It stands tall too, meaning it takes up minimal space on your countertop.

How we test and review the best cold press juicers

We have reviewed the majority of the cold press juicers in our guide as possible, with any not yet fully tested on our wait list. We've included a rating out of five for every model we've tested hands-on, and for most of them, you can also click through to a complete review that goes into our experience of each model in more detail.

For the models we weren't able to try just yet, we also took into account online information such as the specs, price, and publicly listed, verified reviews. We used these to identify any common complaints or issues in the products or to identify who they would be best suited to.

What is the best cold press juicer?

If money was no object, models from Kuvings like the Kuvings EVO820 Whole Slow Juicer and its slightly less expensive sister model Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer Elite C7000S deliver some of the freshest juice we've tasted. The EVO820 is a newer model and has a unique flip-gate chute that drops ingredients into the chute, eliminating the need for a safety fin or a pusher. The feed chute is also wider and the model comes with a  smoothie strainer. The C7000 is slightly shorter making it easier to store and utilizes a hopper and strainer, though you will need to make use of a pusher.

We're also a big fan of Hurom products, testing both the compact Hurom HP Slow Juicer and its more supped-up Hurom H-AA  Slow Juicer. Both operate at 43rpm and yield delicious, well-extracted juice, but operate according to different technologies. The  H-AA uses new Alpha technology for optimized juicing, easier cleaning, and the ability to make ice cream while the second-gen technology still makes great juice. The HP is designed to be more compact and is better for smaller portions, making it slightly more affordable.

Meanwhile, if you're new to slow juicers and looking for value, The Nutribullet Slow Juicer was pretty easy to store and delivered fairly decent results but cleaning was a bit tricky and we had a hard time removing the auger. Comparably, the Ninja Cold Press Pro lets you adjust the amount of pulp that is extracted into your drinking and has dishwasher-safe parts but could have been better at juice extraction.

How to choose the best cold press juicer

Design: Think about how much space you have to house or store a juicer in your kitchen, as well as what you'd like your machine to look like. You can get ones that sit upright or are more horizontal, others that focus on being compact and others that are unashamedly large. So do think about what will work best for your space.

Juice Type: you need to consider the kind of juice you want to make. If you want to juice leafy vegetables, look for a slow juicer with at least 400 watts of power so you get the most efficient yield. You can also consider speed settings - some only offer one, but having two gives you more power to get through tougher skins when required.

Feeder Tube Size: Do consider how much chopping and dicing you are prepared to do, and look at the size of the feeder tube to see how big it is. Generally, slow juicers are smaller than that fast juicers but there is still a variance. If you don’t want to do too much prep, look for larger feeder tubes.

Warranty: You want your juicer to last, so make sure your manufacturer’s warranty is suitable - the very best slow juicer brands will offer 10 years plus on the motor and five years plus on parts.

Fast vs slow juicers: Which is best?

Fast juicers are the most popular on the market for several reasons. As their name would suggest, they are able to produce large amounts of juice (although you will get a lot of foam) in a quicker amount of time, they cost less, are easier to clean and they eliminate pulp. Fast juicers have the same mechanisms you'll find in the best blenders, shredding fruit and vegetables and then straining them to extract the juice. They’re great for people on the go who don’t have lots of time to wait, but they are louder and, as we mentioned above, some research suggests that they can destroy some of the nutrients through the heat they produce in use.

The best cold press juicer, on the other hand, will prepare a slightly more pulpy, natural juice, as fruit and veg are crushed rather than ground down through a mesh. It means it can process some things that fast juicers can’t, like leafy greens, sprouts and kale, and herbs, giving you more options, and overall the juice is of a better quality with no foam and less waste. They’re also much quieter.

They do cost a little more, are trickier to clean due to having more parts, and are of course slower in operation, but if the reported difference in nutrients is a concern to you, then it’s a good option to choose.

Is a masticating juicer the same as cold press?

Yes, cold press and masticating juicers are the same in terms of how they process the juice, without the use of heat. You may find some extra features on individual machines but the way the juice is made is the same, so don’t be pulled in by extra features you don’t require.

How much does a cold press juicer cost?

As always, it all depends on your budget and what you’re buying it for. If you’re wanting to just try it out, then by all means spend a little less to see how you get on.

However, on the whole, cheaper machines can be more hassle than they’re worth, and if you then decide to use it long term, you may need to invest again. Spend a little bit more in the first place and your juicer will last longer, juice more efficiently and probably come with a longer warranty to boot.

A mid-range slow juicer will cost anywhere between $200-$350. They will also likely offer a high yield for your fruit and vegetables compared with cheaper machines, so you’ll get more juice for your buck.

What does 'cold press juicer' mean?

'Cold press juicer' means that the juice has been pressed without heat; in doing so, it is able to extract higher quality juice that is more favorful, more nutritious and packed with fiber.

What does a cold press juicer do?

A cold press juicer extracts juice from fruit and veg with a lower RPM than traditional juicers. It mimics hand juicing more and in doing so is able to product juice that is more nutritious and fiber-packed.

Top 10 universal juicers of 2017-2018 - iMarket.by

Contents

A juicer is not the most complex device, but the variety of models on the market can be confusing. To make it easier for customers to understand, the imarket. by online store sometimes ranks the best equipment in terms of price / quality ratio. This time in our review of the ten best universal juicers that are perfect for home use or for processing a country harvest.

Especially for this rating, we chose only universal models, so there will be no mechanical devices designed exclusively for squeezing juice from citrus fruits (with a working area in the form of a cone). For such equipment, perhaps, we will make a separate rating. Thus, the top ten universal juicers according to the imarket.by online store looks like this:

Top 10 Universal Juicers

And now about each model in more detail.

10. Zhuravinka SVSP-303 (the best domestic juice extractor)

The simplest and most inexpensive model of our rating opens the top ten - the Belarusian Zhuravinka SVSP-303. The manufacturer of this equipment is the Mogilev plant "Elektrodvigatel", for which household appliances are rather related products than the main activity. Accordingly, Zhuravinka juicers did not use any special innovative technologies that required additional financial investments, which means that the price of this equipment is very low.

Zhuravinka SVSP-303 is a centrifugal juicer with a power consumption of 160 watts. At the same time, the productivity is at least 700 grams per minute. At the same time, Belarusian machinery is predictably designed not so much for fruit processing, but for getting juice from vegetables and getting grated potatoes. That is, if you like to cook potato pancakes, Zhuravinka is an almost indispensable option.

The pulp is discarded into a separate container; a special container is provided for the juice. Both are included in the kit. Since the main calculation was made for the processing of hard fruits, a motor blocking mode is provided in case of overheating.

The case is plastic, but the equipment looks quite presentable. A cord storage compartment is provided, and special rubber pads on the legs provide good stability even on wet surfaces.

As for the build quality, we can confidently say that there are no serious complaints about the equipment of the Belarusian manufacturer. Zhuravinka juicers have been in demand for more than a year due to their unpretentiousness and really low price. Zhuravinka SVSP-303 is in the top ten models due to popular popularity and exceptionally affordable price.

9. Philips HR1863/00 (best design)

In 9th place is the Philips HR1863/00 centrifugal type juicer. It is part of the Philips Viva collection of home appliances. A variety of Viva collection devices have a recognizable concept and are often made in black and gray with metal inserts.

Philips HR1863/00 is a juicer with an aluminum body and transparent plastic containers, which make it possible to visually control the work process. The declared power is 700 W, which is quite enough for most of the necessary operations (squeezing, grinding, mixing).

Directly in this model, the pulp is not thrown away, but is collected in a special built-in container with a capacity of 1.2 liters. The manufacturer notes that this design made it possible to implement QuickClean quick cleaning technology. To clean it, it is enough to pour water into the supply chamber, and after a minute the equipment can be put to dry. The special smooth surface of the built-in container eliminates the need for long rinsing.

The feed chamber itself has an enlarged hole diameter of 75 mm. It can be assumed that a medium-sized apple will pass quite well. For juice, a special plastic jug with a volume of 0.8 liters is provided in the kit. The system allows you to extract up to 2 liters of juice without having to empty the pulp compartment.

The case has a cord storage compartment. The mains cable is about a meter long. The design allows you to wash the juicer under running water and in the dishwasher. Non-slip feet make the case more stable.

Philips HR1863/00 looks very presentable - and this is its main distinguishing feature. Easy to assemble, disassemble and easy to clean. The juicer was created with the expectation of a harmonious addition to the interior and is a model designed for serving (pouring juice into glasses). It will definitely not fit for processing the potato crop.

Philips HR186300 Juicer

8. Panasonic MJ-DJ31STQ (Best 3in1 Juicer)

Quite often, leading manufacturers create juicers that, thanks to various attachments, can easily be transformed into a blender or chopper. Panasonic MJ-DJ31STQ is just such a mini-harvester. The nozzle in the form of a tall transparent jug turns the juicer into a shaker (blender for creating cocktails), and if you need to grind coffee or other solid products, you can use the mill nozzle as a working module. A power of 800 watts is enough, including for efficient grinding. However, these are rather additional features. The main purpose of this device is, of course, squeezing juice.

Panasonic MJ-DJ31STQ is a centrifugal type juicer with an emphasis on squeezing juice from fresh fruits. A specific design difference is the swivel spout, which makes it easy to pour the resulting juice into glasses. As soon as one glass is full, turn the spout slightly and fill another. And so that drops do not fall on the table during the turn, just lift the module up.

The centrifuge in the working chamber is made of stainless steel and is equipped with a knife in the shape of the letter S. This geometry of the cutting edge allows you to hold the fruit in place during processing, which significantly speeds up the time and quality of the extraction. The round loading opening with a diameter of 75 mm allows you to use the whole fruit. The set includes a jug for juice with a volume of about 1.5 liters, as well as a 2-liter container for pulp.

The two-speed rotary switch allows you to switch the juicer to the mode of squeezing soft or hard products, depending on the need. For safe operation, Panasonic engineers recommend continuous operation cycles of no more than 2 minutes. After you need to take a short break (about 2 minutes), and you can resume work.

Thus, the Panasonic MJ-DJ31STQ is a great mini food processor for home cooking, but this juicer is almost not designed for processing a large number of products. For winemakers and lovers of tomato juice, it will be almost useless. Considering not the widest scope, we give the 8th place.

Panasonic MJ-DJ31STQ Juicer

7. Braun Multiquick 3 (J 300) (the best juicer for home cooking)

In 7th place in our rating, the Braun Multiquick 3 (J 300) is a juicer that is good not only for pouring fresh juice into glasses, but also quite suitable for processing a large number of products. The Braun designers sought to create a model that would combine elegant design and high versatility. It is safe to say that they succeeded.

Braun Multiquick 3 (J 300) is a centrifugal type juicer with a maximum power consumption of 800 watts. Unlike the Panasonic MJ-DJ31STQ, which we analyzed above, a 4-stage safety shutdown system is provided here. Blocking the motor in case of overheating allows you not to worry that the engine will fail due to prolonged operation. Firstly, there is no need to independently monitor the time of work, and secondly, it allows you to work more calmly with large volumes of products. The control system provides a 2-speed mode. To obtain small amounts of juice, you can use the quick extraction mode.

The loading opening diameter of 75 mm allows you to use medium-sized fruits and vegetables without pre-treatment. The special shape of the spout (“Anti-drop” system) prevents splashing of juice during processing and after finishing work.

The elegant black case made of glossy plastic with High gloss metal inserts was specially created so that the juicer blends harmoniously into the interior of any kitchen. The rubberized base makes the structure more stable on wet surfaces, and the removable parts can be washed in the dishwasher or under running water.

The kit includes a special nozzle-fine stainless steel sieve for better filtration of the finished juice, as well as a special cleaning brush.

Braun Multiquick 3 (J 300) is one of the best mid-budget models. It has everything for high-quality processing of both small portions of the product, and a large number of vegetables or fruits. The quality of Braun also leaves no doubt that this is a really reliable and durable technique.

Braun Multiquick 3 (J 300) Juicer

6. Gorenje JC803G Gorenje JC803G is a centrifugal type model, which was specially developed for processing large volumes of products. It does not differ in some exceptional design, but on the other hand, the functionality will completely suit those who are looking for reliable equipment for processing summer cottage crops. The device can be used both to obtain a large amount of juice, and to grind tomatoes or potatoes. The filtration system is supplemented with a microfilter, which allows you to get the purest juice. The volume of a special container for pulp is 2.5 liters, and a liter plastic jug for juice (included) is equipped with a lid.

The power consumption of 800 W is sufficient for long-term processing, including hard fruits. Given the purpose, automatic blocking of the motor in case of overheating is provided. The diameter of the loading hole is 85 mm, which is an order of magnitude larger than that of ordinary home juicers.

Another advantage is smooth speed control. Three speed settings allow you to process soft vegetables at low speeds, hard vegetables at higher speeds.

The plastic case is equipped with vacuum legs that will firmly hold the juicer on the table surface, and the modules and containers are firmly held by special clamps.

In a word, Gorenje JC803G is a very inexpensive and very practical juicer, which is ideal for working in the country. In addition to its obvious advantages, it should be noted that the manufacturer gives a guarantee for 2 years of stable operation. An excellent choice if you need efficient and reliable equipment for large volumes of work.

Gorenje JC803G Juicer

5. Hotpoint SJ 4010 AXL0 (excellent extraction quality)

On the fifth position of our rating is the Italian auger juicer Hotpoint SJ 4010 AXL0. Unlike centrifugal-type models, where a grater is used, the screw design is more like a meat grinder. Here, the juice is squeezed out, and not collected after preliminary grinding of the product into porridge. Due to this, the juice does not heat up, which means that useful substances and vitamins do not break down.

The Hotpoint SJ 4010 AXL0 uses slow-pressing technology that produces 30% more juice than other juicers in its class. The result exceeds all expectations, but the cake is almost dry. On the one hand, this is good if juice is your goal, on the other hand, it is unlikely that you will be able to effectively grind potatoes for potato pancakes.

Given the design features, auger-type juicers consume almost half as much electricity. Power Hotpoint SJ 4010 AXL0 only 400 W - this is a standard figure for this type of equipment.

The noise level, of course, is also several times lower than that of centrifugal models. The screw mechanism is equipped with a reverse function for convenience. If the working chamber becomes clogged, you can always free it by turning on the reverse stroke mode. In addition, the bowl can be easily cleaned without dismantling. It is enough just to fill it with water. The set includes a container for juice with a volume of 1 liter and the same container for pulp.

Hotpoint SJ 4010 AXL0 is a premium juicer in a strict metal case. It was specially developed for those who are interested in getting juice with the maximum set of vitamins and nutrients. If you are a connoisseur of exceptional quality, pay attention to this technique.

Hotpoint SJ 4010 AXL0 Juicer

4. Moulinex XXL JU655 (best high power juicer)

Moulinex household appliances have always been considered a model of high quality. The French manufacturer almost does not produce cheap models. This applies not only to large-sized devices, but also to small household appliances for the kitchen.

The Moulinex JU655 juicer received the XXL attachment due to its high power (1200 W) and the increased volume of the loading opening (85 mm). This is a centrifugal type model, which was specially designed for processing a large number of products, as well as for daily use.

The "Direct Serving" option means the possibility of direct juice output directly into the glass, bypassing the juice container, if necessary. However, if long-term work is expected, you can use a special juice jug with a capacity of 1.25 liters. The jug is equipped with a foam separator, when pouring juice into glasses, the foam remains inside. The pulp is collected in a container with a capacity of 2 liters.

For processing soft and hard products, 2 speeds are provided. At a higher one, you can squeeze the juice from beets, carrots, rub potatoes. Despite the fact that the design is quite stable, it is better to hold the case slightly during operation, since the power is really high. For example, a kilogram of citrus fruits (6-7 fruits) is processed in about 10-15 seconds. If necessary, the engine can be quickly blocked using a special arc-shaped handle.

The main part of the body is made of metal. The plastic container for cake is attached to the top. In addition to special dishes, a cleaning brush is provided in the kit.

Moulinex XXL JU655 is a juicer with great capacity and power. It is suitable for working with almost any product, while you get the result very quickly. All Moulinex appliances are of high quality materials and workmanship, they are really reliable and durable appliances.

Moulinex XXL JU655

3. Polaris PEA 0930 Apple (best budget juicer)

If you do not want to buy expensive equipment, but are interested in a reliable juicer, pay attention to the Polaris PEA 0930 Apple. This is a very inexpensive model for daily home use.

An ordinary glass is best suited as a container, although a special plastic jug with a 0.55 liter foam separator (included) can also be used. With this juicer, you can process a large number of products, but the process will take much longer than, for example, Moulinex XXL JU655H. The container for collecting pulp has a volume of 1 liter.

Polaris PEA 0930 Apple is a centrifugal device with a power of 900 watts. Quite a high figure, given the small size. There are two speed modes for working with products of different hardness. It is important to note that the engine is equipped with overheating protection and automatic blocking.

If you paid attention to the photo under the description, then you probably noticed an unusual design. The drawing on plastic is made in the style of 3D printing with the effect of the visual volume of the image. Depending on the main color of the case (black or red), one of two variants of the pattern is used.

As the name implies, the Polaris designers developed this model specifically for squeezing juice from apples. At the same time, the manufacturer is sure that 65 mm is a “wide neck size”. In fact, this diameter is almost the smallest among the devices from our rating. However, for a small juicer this is quite enough. Large apples should be cut in half before loading.

Thus, Polaris PEA 0930 Apple is a small but quite reliable juicer for daily use. It can be recommended to families with children, and to everyone who adheres to a healthy lifestyle. Compact and very inexpensive, it is equipped with everything necessary for squeezing juice from products of any hardness. Due to the good price-quality ratio, it deserves the 3rd place in the top ten.

Polaris PEA 0930 Apple

2. REDMOND RJ-M908 (high end juicer)

In second place is the juicer, which, in terms of technical equipment, is clearly ahead of all the rest of our ten. It even has a backlit LCD display. But first things first.

REDMOND RJ-M908 is a centrifugal type juicer with a fairly high power consumption. The nominal consumption rate is 1000 W, the maximum can be a record 3000 W. It's hard to imagine what that kind of power could be used for, but don't forget that high power consumption isn't always directly proportional to high performance. However, it can be assumed that there will be no problems with the processing of any kind of products.

The control system is designed for 5 speeds, and the soft start function does not make the device flinch at the start. The speed level is shown on the backlit electronic display. The engine, by the way, will not turn on if it is assembled incorrectly, and the automatic locking system will stop it in case of overheating during operation. Very useful additions for a device with such a lot of power.

One would assume that such a powerful technique would be very noisy, but the maximum level here is only 75 dB. Not much for a juicer.

The design deserves special attention. The metal case has a wide opening for loading (84 mm). Titanium-coated stainless steel separator blades stay sharp for a long time. The juice supply system is equipped with a foam cutter. The set includes a pulp container (2 liters) and a juice container (0.75 liters). A book of 75 recipes will help you diversify your home table with both traditional and exotic drinks.

REDMOND RJ-M908 is a truly versatile juicer with excellent functionality and a high level of technical equipment. Titanium-coated blades and additional security systems make it an excellent choice for those who are interested in purchasing comfortable and durable equipment.

REDMOND RJ-M908 juice extractor

1. Hurom Basic HE-RBE04 (best premium model)

The Hurom brand in the world of juicers is like Bentley in the world of cars. The South Korean company specializes exclusively in the production of auger juicers and does not produce other equipment. Hurom products are considered worldwide as the standard of style and quality. Any model will cost a lot, but the workmanship will always be at the highest level.

Hurom Basic HE-RBE04 is a device that uses the patented LSTS (Low Speed System Technology) wringing system. Thanks to the slow pressing technology, almost 2 times more juice is obtained compared to conventional centrifugal models. At the same time, the juice does not stratify into fractions, and all useful substances and vitamins are preserved in it.

Power consumption - only 150 W, which is almost 10 times less than conventional juicers. At the same time, this model was originally designed for a family of 4 people. In addition to high performance, the continuous operation time is about 30 minutes. For comparison, the Panasonic MJ-DJ31STQ, which is in 8th place in our rating, has a recommended time of only 2 minutes. Thus, Hurom Basic HE-RBE04 is perfect for processing large volumes of products, as well as for squeezing juice for 1-2 glasses. The set includes a transparent container for juice with a volume of 0.3 liters.

Hurom manufactures all its products in South Korea and China. The assembly of this model was carried out at the Korean factory. Engine warranty is 5 years (!). Another advantage of the Hurom Basic HE-RBE04 is its low noise level. The juicer during operation makes no noise louder than a conventional microwave oven.

It must be admitted that in terms of reliability and quality, Hurom Basic HE-RBE04 leaves behind all competitors. Despite the fact that this elite model is not cheap, we simply could not give 1st place to another juicer. The South Korean model is the clear leader of our rating.

Juicer selection guide:

Understanding the features of different models This is such a thing that helps to separate a fruit or vegetable into juice and the rest of the cake. There are models that can squeeze greens, nuts, frozen foods. Juicers, like Borges' creatures, can be classified according to a wide range of parameters. But we will begin, no matter how trite it may be, with the origin of species.

Types of juicers

Initially, there was only one type of juicers - manual presses. Such devices, of course, could not cope with all types of fruits: for example, it is easy to squeeze an orange, grapes or watermelon with a press, but try to do the same with a head of cabbage.

Manual grape press

In the middle of the 20th century, the first centrifuge models appeared. They were, as usual, at first industrial and very bulky creatures. These mastodons did not have a container to dump the pulp, it simply remained in the bowl and at some point began to interfere with the extraction process. Then I had to stop the device, disassemble and clean it.

The revolution was made by the idea of making the wringer drum not cylindrical, but cone-shaped. As a result, the same centrifugal force that squeezes the juice through the small holes in the drum, then throws the lighter cake out of it.

Grind (lower grater) - wring out - throw away

After that, centrifugal models began their evolution. And at the same time, other types of juicers were also moving towards the same goal (so that it would be clever, convenient and fun for us to make juice from anything). For example, screw. If centrifugal juicers are direct relatives of drum washing machines, then screw ones are a modified meat grinder.

However, still popular are the types of devices that work with the power of the owner's hands and the laws of physics. On request “juice press” you will find an assortment of devices on the network, among which there will be a cheap plastic cone for citrus fruits and an expensive chrome-plated manual press for squeezing pomegranates.

Here you will not only find a well-illustrated history of the juicer, but also the accompanying test procedure for these parts by our laboratory.

Juice presses

Expensive models of this type are also called cold presses. Such devices usually have an industrial purpose. However, now, on the wave of love for simple old values, marketers are offering to build mechanical juicers into home life.

Why are mechanical presses good? First, they do not depend on electricity and do not consume it at all. Therefore, they do not heat up and do not oxidize the juice. Manufacturers still like to promote the reliability factor - a metal device that works on the principle of a lever has no chance of suddenly smoking and suddenly dying in the hands of the owner.

A mechanical citrus or pomegranate press can rival the best auger electric juicers and will almost certainly outperform centrifugal juicers. Modern devices are very well thought out in terms of the physics of the process, they do not require much effort from the operator. But many models require a fairly significant amount of money to purchase. And, of course, the owner, who respects manual labor.

Typical home mechanical press

A typical citrus press is a cone with grooves through which the juice flows into a collection container. This device works on the human factor: you cut the fruit into two parts and press the half on the cone with force. This is the cheapest option for a juicer, plus it's easy to store. But to make an orange fresh juice for a family of even three in this way is not a job for the lazy.

Minimum

The electric citrus press is an improvement on the previous unit. Such models are equipped with a low-power motor that will turn on the moment you start squeezing juice from half a citrus. The motor will rotate the cone under your hand, so you don't have to spend a lot of effort. We have already carried out a comparative test of three similar devices.

Electric presses are small, easy to store, clean and easy to use. But such models do not imply a food variety: oranges, grapefruits, in extreme cases - lemons and limes (if there is an appropriate nozzle in the kit). A lot of juice cannot be squeezed out in this way - too long and human-dependent process.

Centrifugal juicers

Modern models of this type have high power, allowing centrifugal speeds up to 16,000 rpm. The centrifuge is a fine stainless steel sieve. The product first falls on a rotating grater, then in the process of rotation it is thrown against the walls with force and separated into juice and cake. The liquid is drained through the spout into one special container, solid residues fall into another.

Centrifugal juicers - leaders in the speed of extraction. These devices quickly and efficiently cope with all soft types of vegetables and fruits. With solid products, it is slightly worse - the juice yield is lower than in screw models. And it is almost impossible to extract juice from greens and fibrous vegetables and fruits using centrifugal force.

In addition, the juice from a centrifugal juicer turns out to be quite foamy, and this is an integral feature of the extraction method, so this property will manifest itself in “good” juicers no less than in “bad” ones.

Auger juicers

These models press the juice of the highest quality - their average product yield is higher than that of centrifugal ones. The operation of the device is based on a screw mechanism (auger) that breaks the fruit and crushes it. Since the juice is obtained by forcing the crushed fruit through the mesh, it contains quite a lot of pulp, and the cake comes out almost dry.

In addition to making juice, these devices can also make smoothies, sorbets and nut butters. Some models have separate attachments for chopping, making dough and pureeing.

Screw devices are divided according to the type of arrangement of the mechanism (horizontal and vertical) and the number of screws (single and twin screws).

Vertical Auger Juicers

Screw mechanism located vertically. The auger itself captures and cuts the fruit, during loading it is almost not necessary to use the pusher. Such models take up relatively little space on the table (their main dimension is height) and work quite quickly - in terms of speed, the fastest ones approach the average centrifugal juicer.

Horizontal Auger Juicers

Positioned horizontally like a meat grinder, the auger allows you to process complex products like seeds and grass. Of course, such models are more overall, at least in terms of the area occupied on the countertop. In addition, they require the user to carefully approach the cutting of raw materials - the neck diameter of this type of device, as a rule, is even smaller than that of vertical augers, besides, a horizontal auger, unlike a vertical one, is not located to grind the product itself.

As in the case of a meat grinder, here you have to actively use the pusher. The cycle of work for horizontal screw models is usually longer than for vertical ones.

Twin screw juicers

Two screws allow you to quickly and efficiently process a large number of fruits, including hard and fibrous types. Devices of this type appeared relatively recently and are gradually becoming fashionable along with professional blenders. The reason for the emergence of demand for both devices is the same - a massive interest in a healthy diet, which is associated with the presence in the diet of a large number of dishes from raw fruits.

Our heroes are very expensive - which is quite logical, the price of a healthy lifestyle is growing in direct proportion to its popularity.

Unfortunately, we haven't found devices of this type in our laboratory yet.

Selection principle

What should I pay attention to when buying a juicer? To begin with, it is worth deciding what type of model we are buying, for which it would be nice to answer a few simple questions:

  1. How often do you plan to use the device? The higher the frequency of use, the more important compactness and ease of cleaning become.
  2. What are you going to process? The choice of design directly depends on the type of raw material.
  3. How much are you going to process? For those who want to regularly drink a glass of fresh juice, and those who harvest products from garden fruits in the fall, the choice of model will be different.
  4. What additional requirements do you have for the device? Speed of work, ease of use, additional nozzles, high yield of the final product of the product, the ability to process a large amount of raw materials, work with complex products (hard fruits, nuts, herbs) - you can choose several parameters, but, alas, not all at once.
  5. How much are you willing to pay for all of the above?

Now let's define the characteristics of the juicers themselves. There are not so many of them.

  1. Speed . Everything is clear here: how much product the device can process per unit of time.
  2. Efficiency . How much juice is obtained from the same amount of feedstock. The more, the better, of course.
  3. Quality . We owe this parameter to centrifugal juicers: they froth juice, which all other types do not. Therefore, we will assume that their quality of the resulting product is slightly lower.
  4. Convenience . This includes the need for careful preparation of raw materials for processing (for example, the fineness of cutting), and the duration of assembly and disassembly, and the convenience of washing the components of the device. In general - the amount of your work and time.
  5. Omnivorous . How wide a range of raw materials the device can use to extract juice from it.
  6. Cost . Of course, applying this parameter to a whole class of devices is not entirely correct, but some objective trends still exist.

If we try to roughly evaluate each type of juicer on a five-point system, where five is the best (that is, the most profitable for the owner) score, we get the following table:

The easiest option for those who prefer a glass or two of citrus juice for breakfast is the electric citrus press. It is inexpensive, the most hassle-free to care for, takes up little space and copes with such a volume as a couple of glasses quite quickly. However, you will be very limited in assortment and volume: “pressing” at least a liter with such a device is already a rather long task.

Fans of savings will start their choice with centrifugal juicers: the price of some budget models is about the same as citrus presses. True, one should not forget about one pitfall: a cheap centrifugal model with a low-power and relatively low-speed engine may be deprived of one of the most important advantages of this type of juicer - speed. And with efficiency, it will inevitably be worse than that of more expensive models.

Those who sometimes need to process several bags of apples brought from their summer cottage can pay attention to expensive and powerful centrifugal juicers. Their speed is impressive. True, sometimes you have to take breaks (usually the maximum time of continuous operation is indicated in the instructions), but still a high-quality and powerful centrifugal model is quite capable of processing about 10 kilograms of fruit in 1 session. And the diameter of the neck often allows you to throw the same apples there just whole.

The most versatile and versatile machine is the vertical auger juicer. The speed of work for fast models does not lose much to centrifugal ones, the range of fruits is much larger (for example, a class such as berries is immediately added), the efficiency of auger models is higher, democratic prices are also found, and, in our experience, they have no obvious shortcomings revealed. Well, the low speed is compensated by the fact that the maximum duration of work for some models reaches half an hour. As a rule, the neck of screw juicers is narrower than that of centrifugal ones, so that the raw materials require more thorough preparation. However, there are also screw models with a wide neck - though not in the public sector.

The horizontal auger juicer adds some more raw materials to the list of raw materials available for processing (but without such a drastic jump as when switching from centrifugal to vertical auger), and it often comes with additional nozzles that allow you to do various other things - for example, press oil from nuts and seeds. In general, it is tacitly believed that a horizontal auger juicer is “for gourmets and aesthetes”. This is also why, as you probably already guessed, “cheap horizontal auger juicer” is an oxymoron. A narrow neck here is a mandatory property of the design, so the raw material will have to be cut into small pieces. Horizontal screw models work, as a rule, even more slowly than vertical ones.

Basic selection parameters

Here we will not mention the general places for evaluating home appliances models. Of course, build quality, production materials, design, and dimensions are also important. In our reviews, we describe the entire set of parameters. Here and now we will focus on the main features depending on the type of juicer.

Electric citrus presses

It makes sense to visually assess the reliability of the design, but in general, as with any device that you actively interact with in the truest sense of the word with your hands, convenience is most important for the press. And specifically for your hands. To evaluate this parameter without experience of use is, alas, almost unrealistic.

Centrifugal models

Not all manufacturers indicate the number of revolutions per minute, but in the vast majority of cases this parameter directly correlates with engine power - and everyone indicates it. As a rule, powerful and high-performance models (that is, for which we love the centrifugal spin principle) have a motor with a power of 1000 W or more. And sometimes it is much higher - 2000 W, for example.

Neck widths of 80 mm or more are a good choice. As we already wrote above, this allows you to put a whole medium-sized apple in there without cutting it.

Auger models

The auger juicer is not too difficult to stop (for example, by pushing too much raw material into it). In these cases, by analogy with a meat grinder, reverse is very useful.

It is not customary to require a wide mouth from auger devices (although you should know: there are such!), but it makes sense to make sure that the neck and the pusher are made conveniently. This is especially true for horizontal models.

General parameters for centrifugal and auger models: convenient and capacious containers for juice and cake and the presence of a foam separator on the lid of the juice jug. The last thing is optional, but pleasant.

Care of the instrument

In any case, if you choose a centrifugal or auger model, you cannot avoid scrubbing the separator mesh with a special brush. This must be done immediately after using the device. This is not the most pleasant occupation, but not horror-horror-horror, but just ten minutes of manual intensive labor. The procedure is complicated if you do not have the opportunity to use running water.

If we consider the number of parts into which the device is disassembled as a synonym for the complexity of its device, then centrifugal models are on average “simpler” than screw ones.

The easiest-to-care products we have tested are the electric citrus presses. These devices also require cleaning immediately after use, but this will take about three minutes.

Performance Factor iXBT.com

In our juicer reviews you will come across this parameter. What does it mean?

When we test the juicing machine, we do 4 mandatory tests: we process green Granny Smith apples, pink grapefruits, carrots and cabbages. In each case, we measure exactly 1 kilogram of raw materials and record the processing time of the product. Then we measure the yield of juice in grams and calculate the arithmetic average of the time of production of four types of product and the yield of juice.

These figures allow you to evaluate the speed of the appliance and the spin efficiency. On average, of course, centrifugal models will have a high rate of speed, and screw models will have a high juice yield. And vice versa: a juice yield of more than 500 g (from 1 kg of raw materials) is a high indicator for a centrifugal model, and an operating time of less than 3 minutes (for processing 1 kg of raw materials) is a good speed for a screw device.

Conclusions

We tried to give the most objective assessment of what is happening in the world of domestic juicing.
