For those of us who can’t pick between espresso and drip coffee, a combination coffee maker is an intriguing proposition. That's why I'm looking forward to this DeLonghi All in One review. There’s a lot of hype about this drip coffee and espresso maker, and I'm excited to see what all the fuss is about.
For those of us who can’t pick between espresso and drip coffee, a combination coffee maker is an intriguing proposition. That’s why I’m looking forward to this DeLonghi All in One review. There’s a lot of hype about this drip coffee and espresso maker, and I’m excited to see what all the fuss is about.
If you’re like me, you have an appreciation for coffee of all kinds, including pour over and espresso. Still, having both an espresso machine and a drip coffee maker isn’t always convenient. That goes double if you’ve got limited kitchen counter space. The DeLonghi All in One is far from the only combination coffee maker out there, but is it worth your hard earned cash? Before you pull out your wallet, let’s take a look at what you need to know.

I’ll go into more detail about this coffee machine’s best features later on in this DeLonghi All in One Review. However, here’s a quick rundown if you’re in a rush.
My first impressions of the DeLonghi All in One left me with more than a few questions. Sure, this hybrid device looks pretty sophisticated. However, can it deliver high quality coffee and espresso for just $289.95? Plus, am I going to get convincing milk foam out of this thing or is the steam wand just a gimmick?
In case you were wondering, the DeLonghi All in One uses a dual heating system that allows you to brew coffee and espresso drinks at the same time. On the espresso side, you’ll get a 15 bar pump, which is fairly standard for most home espresso makers.
There’s also a manual steam wand with two settings. I mean, what’s the point of an espresso machine if you can’t make steamed milk? In case you’re already having trouble choosing between making espresso or drip, the DeLonghi All in One gives you other options too. For example, there’s a 2 in 1 portafilter in case you favor pods over ground espresso.
When it comes to the coffee maker side of this machine, there’s a spill proof carafe to ensure not a drop of your favorite drip gets wasted.
If you’re someone who likes control over flavor and aroma preferences, you’ll certainly appreciate the option to customize the brew strength. Plus, the digital touchscreen allows you to program the brew time up to 24 hours in advance.
DeLonghi All in One FeaturesAs you might imagine, the DeLonghi All in One is packed with interesting features. Let’s take a closer look at what makes this combination machine tick.
Compact DesignOne of the biggest reasons people make the switch to a combination coffee machine is its portability. If you live in a dorm room, RV or studio apartment, you may not always have enough counter space for multiple coffee makers.
This is where the DeLonghi All in One’s compact design comes in. Despite its large water tank, this is still a compact and lightweight machine. Weighing less than fifteen pounds, this espresso and coffee maker should be a breeze to move around or take on the road.
ColorsThe DeLonghi All in One is only available in one color. That said, if you’re going to get stuck with the same color, black is definitely a good choice. It pairs well with the stainless steel components of this machine and will fit nicely with just about any kitchen decor or theme.
User InterfaceIf you’re used to manual espresso machines or a simple coffee maker, the All in One’s digital display might look a little daunting. But despite the touchscreen, the controls on this combination coffee maker are pretty straightforward.
On one side, you’ll see three buttons that control the espresso functions. These comprise a power button, espresso/hot water button and one for operating the steam wand.
The touchscreen is used for preparing drip coffee. You’ve got a power button for your coffee maker, a clock, a button for making bolder, more flavorful coffee and controls to schedule your next brew.
Program FunctionLike any espresso machine, the All in One will need to preheat if you’re planning to make an espresso shot. However, if you’re just making drip coffee, there’s a program function you can use. In other words, don’t worry about waking up early to turn on the coffee pot.
The program function allows you to schedule your next pot of coffee up to 24 hours in advance. As long as there’s ground coffee in the filter and water in the tank, your machine will start brewing coffee at your chosen time.
Water TankThe DeLonghi All in One features a water tank that holds 32 ounces (0.9 liters). That’s more than you’ll get with some smaller espresso or drip coffee makers, but it’s important to note that this machine actually has two water tanks.
There’s a main tank for the espresso machine and a water fill compartment for drip coffee. Fortunately, the main tank is removable. Having to haul the entire machine to the sink or use separate jugs to fill it up would get tedious very quickly.
Water FilterIf there’s one feature I can’t argue with, it’s the charcoal water filter in this machine. Some people may not care either way, but if you’re extra wary of contaminants in your water, the charcoal water filter on this espresso maker is a major plus.
Dual Heating SystemThanks to the DeLonghi All in One’s dual heating system, you can brew coffee and espresso at the same time. That’s handy if you’re trying to make coffee for two or you’re just in the mood for both types of coffee drinks. This is a fairly standard feature for most combination coffee makers, but it’s still worth mentioning.
PortafilterOkay, let’s talk about portafilters. Whether you prefer single shots, double shots or even coffee from Easy Serve Espresso (ESE) pods, it’s nice to have options. Luckily, that’s exactly what this DeLonghi combination coffee espresso maker offers.
The 2 in 1 portafilter ensures you always have choices. That said, I’d argue that freshly ground coffee from a good burr coffee grinder beats pre ground every time.
Reusable Coffee FilterWe’re not always in the mood to use paper coffee filters here at Coffeeness, which is why the DeLonghi’s reusable gold tone filter wins a few points. You can say goodbye to disposable paper filters with this machine and use the included permanent gold tone filter instead.
Even though permanent filters may be a bit more tedious to clean, they’re a lot easier on the environment – and your wallet.
Bold SettingIf you’re someone who enjoys a strong, flavorful cup of coffee, you’ll appreciate this coffee maker’s bold setting. This is one of the few ways you can change the brewing process with this machine, but how does the setting actually work?
Essentially, the bold setting slows the brew process, maximizing contact time between the coffee grounds and hot water. The result is a more aromatic brew and you won’t have to worry about adding extra grounds to the filter just to get the same flavor.
Milk FoamYou’ll notice that the word “advanced” gets thrown around when talking about this coffee maker’s steam wand. Unlike a standard issue steam wand, this one includes two settings: one for microfoam and one for froth. That means you should be able to produce excellent fine foam for a latte or pillowy froth for a cappuccino.
By the way, before getting ahead of yourself you’ll need to buy a decent stainless steel milk pitcher. Do yourself a favor and invest in a decent espresso tamper while you’re at it. You’ll just have to trust me on that.
Spill Proof CarafeHot coffee should end up in your cup, not all over your hand. A spill proof carafe is always convenient to have, and the curved spout on this one does its job well.
Speaking of the carafe, this machine uses a standard glass one. Glass carafes may be easy to clean but they’re more prone to breaking than stainless steel. Plus, they just don’t retain heat as well. There is a hot plate included here to keep your drip coffee warm. However, experience has shown me that warmer plates just slowly cook coffee into oblivion.
Cup heightThe cup height on this machine is already generous, seeing as it has to accommodate the glass carafe. Still, if you need extra room you can always remove the drip tray on the espresso side. Ultimately, you shouldn’t have any issues using taller glasses to make a latte macchiato, americano or any other espresso drink.
Removable Drip TrayAs mentioned above, the All in One machine has a removable drip tray. Just slide it out when you’re ready to clean it or if you need the extra room for a tall glass.
By itself, the drip tray is a nice touch to catch extra stary espresso drips or hot water if you’ve overfilled the tank. However, since this coffee maker also includes a water level indicator, you shouldn’t have any issues there.
WarrantyIf you’ve purchased a De’Longhi coffee machine before, you’ll know that most of their products have a standard one year warranty for manufacturer defects. The All in One is no exception, so if you need to replace parts or even the machine itself, you can contact the manufacturer.
How To Use the DeLonghi All in One
Since the DeLonghi All in One has both drip coffee and espresso capabilities, I’ll cover how to use it for both. Either way, you should be able to get great tasting coffee in no time.
Here’s how you can make drip in this coffee machine:
- Start by opening the filter holder door, then add fresh water to the tank. To avoid overfilling, be sure to use the glass carafe and don’t exceed the max line.
- Make sure your gold tone filter is correctly positioned, then use a measuring spoon to add coffee grounds to the filter.
- Close the filter holder door, make sure you’ve got your carafe on the warming plate and press the ON button.
- If you want to use the bold setting, press the button after you’ve turned the coffee machine on.
And here’s a rundown for cooking up espresso:
- First, you’ll want to add ground coffee beans to the portafilter and make sure you’ve filled the water tank up appropriately.
- Press the ON button and let the espresso machine preheat. The button will continue to flash while it’s preheating but once it’s ready, you’ll see the flashing stop.
- Rinse your demitasse cup with a little warm water before placing it under the spout.
- Now it’s time to press the hot coffee button.
- Take a moment to marvel at the wonderful aromatic liquid making its way out of the spout!
When it comes to cleaning the All in One, you can manually rinse the frothing wand, glass carafe, drip tray and the outside of the machine with a clean cloth and warm water.
Like any combination coffee maker, you’ll need to descale your DeLonghi from time to time. The good news is that the machine includes a descaling notification on the touchscreen, so it’ll let you know when it’s time. It’s important to note that this coffee machine does include a bottle of descaling solution (and directions) with purchase.

I couldn’t wrap up my DeLonghi All in One Review without talking about how this coffee machine fares in comparison with other machines. With that said, let’s get into it!
DeLonghi All in One COM532M vs BCO430BMThe DeLonghi BCO430BM All in One Combination Coffee Maker and the All in One may look very similar but at $180.03, you’ll be spending a lot less on the BCO430BM.
What’s missing is a digital display, although it does have a clock. Plus, you’ll find a warming plate on top of the lid. This one does have a manual milk frother but it lacks the advanced settings of the COM532M.
DeLonghi All in One COM532M vs Espressione EM1040Besides its stainless steel housing, there are a few differences between the Espressione EM1040R and the DeLonghi All in One, starting with its $260.99 price tag.
Further, the Espressione can achieve an impressive 19 bars of pressure, compared to the DeLonghi’s 15 bars. The user interface on this machine also gives you more control over your espresso shots. However, it lacks a digital display and programmable timer.
DeLonghi All in One COM532M vs Galanz GLEC02S3CT14One of the biggest differences between the DeLonghi All in One and the Galanz 2 in 1 Espresso Pump Machine and Single Serve Coffee Maker is the size. The Galanz machine is even more compact, although there’s no carafe for the regular coffee side.
Given its single serve size, it’s no surprise the Galanz is a little cheaper at$114.68. Just like the DeLonghi, you’ll also find a filter holder and a reusable filter to eliminate the need for paper waste on this Galanz machine.

DeLonghi All in One
The best of all worlds!
Compact design
Versatile steam wand
Dual heating system
Good value for money
No milk pitcher included
Flimsy plastic espresso tamper
$299.95
Combining the versatility of two separate machines into one compact package, there’s a lot to like about the DeLonghi All in One. I’m glad I decided to embark on this DeLonghi All in One review. I guess I can understand what all the fuss is about now.
Not only does it come with a timer to automatically brew coffee, digital touchscreen and a steam dial, it packs all this in without taking up too much counter space. Now I just need to decide whether to include this review in my coffee maker guide or espresso machine guide!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my DeLonghi All in One Review. I’d love to hear what you think of this compact combination machine, so keep the comments coming!
DeLonghi All in One Review FAQYes, the dual heating system we’ve talked about in this DeLonghi All in One review means that you can be making espresso and drip at the same time – no need for long wait times.
Despite its dual heating system, the DeLonghi All in One is equipped with just one boiler.
To make a cappuccino in the DeLonghi All in One, start by preparing a shot of espresso. Next, add cold milk to a stainless steel milk pitcher and press the steam button. Once the button has stopped flashing, immerse the steam wand and turn the steam dial counter clockwise. You should aim to triple the volume of the milk. Once you’ve finished steaming, spoon the foam over the espresso and add a touch of hot milk.
The DeLonghi All in One does include a combination measuring spoon and tamper made of plastic.
While it might be great at steaming milk, the DeLonghi All in One doesn’t include a milk frothing pitcher.
Review of an inexpensive automatic coffee machine De'Longhi Magnifica S ECAM 22.110.B
The hero of our today's review is another far from new, but still in demand model De'Longhi, Magnifica S (ECAM 22.110.B). Moreover: today it is the cheapest model presented on the official website. Let's see what the most budget De'Longhi machine can do and what its capabilities are. We will try not to be too strict with the device: after all, the age of the device is already solid, and the status of the youngest model today clearly hints that miracles should not be expected here.

Package contents
The coffee machine is delivered in a large cardboard box designed in the De’Longhi corporate style: the main color is black, the secondary color is dark blue, full-color printing, high-quality photographs.
After examining the box, you can get acquainted with the appearance of the coffee machine and learn about its main features and technical characteristics. All information is presented in the main European languages, including Russian.
The coffee machine was protected from impacts with foam inserts, accessories were packed in plastic bags.
Opening the box, inside we found the coffee machine with all its components:
- the appliance itself, including the removable drip tray and water tank
- Descaler
- measuring spoon
- instructions and other printed materials
What can you say about the package? It's good that the manufacturer took care of the user and put a descaler in the box. However, the traditional water filter (which can be found in the box with older models) is not here. However, the price of branded filters for many is so high that most users prefer to filter water on their own or simply use ready-made bottled water.
The ground coffee measuring spoon is a standard accessory that can be found in the box with any coffee machine.
At first glance
The coffee machine makes a good first impression. Of course, the plastic glossy (and therefore easily soiled) case does not look as impressive as matte plastic or even metal, which can be found in flagship models. However, our model has done everything to the conscience. Including what concerns design.
There are practically no metal elements here. Only the stand for the cup (it is glossy) and the cappuccinatore tube are made of metal. The remaining elements that look like metal are plastic, painted with the appropriate paint.
Let's take a closer look at the device.
The most uninteresting part of the device is the back. Here you can see the sticker, the outlet for connecting the power cord (it is non-removable for this model) and ventilation holes.
A not too interesting picture opens from the bottom: here we see a sticker with information about the model. The red plastic cap is a miniature container for collecting condensate (it is attached to the bottom of the coffee machine).
On the sides, grab handles also attract attention for comfortable carrying of the device.
On the right side of the machine there is space for a 1.8 liter water tank.
The tank can be easily removed and installed with one hand. The top of the tank has a removable lid with a filling hole (it is not necessary to remove the lid to add water).
The transparent wall has a Max. Inside there is a place to install a branded filter.
Behind the water container is a hidden plastic hatch and behind it is a compact brewing unit that can be easily removed for rinsing under running water.
By the way, you will have to wash it from time to time (with active use, it would be nice to do this once a week). So it’s better to immediately consider the block and understand how to properly remove it and put it back.
This is a compact CRF brewing unit with pre-wet and easy removal. The capacity of such a block is up to 14 grams of ground coffee.
On top of our device there is a plastic platform for cups (with passive heating), as well as two covers: a small one opens access to the shaft for filling ground coffee, a large one can be removed completely and allows you to fill in the grain.
The large lid, unfortunately, does not have any sealing rubber bands, and therefore the noise from the coffee grinder will be heard very well.
As we can see, ground coffee can be added without removing the large lid.
In the far left corner there is a wheel for setting the built-in coffee grinder (the grinder itself is under the wheel, it is not visible in the photo). Our machine uses a burr grinder with metal conical burrs and 13 degrees of grind (the same is used in a huge number of modern De’Longhi coffee machines), so that everyone can adjust the grind depending on the type of coffee and / or their own taste.
A drip tray, excess moisture and used coffee pods are installed on the bottom front.
The drip tray is equipped with a plastic float that reminds you to drain excess water in time.
The coffee grounds container holds about 14 coffee pods and can be emptied independently of the drip tray.
Once again, please note that the panel on which the cups are placed is made of polished metal. It looks beautiful, but only for the time being: scratches from mugs quickly form on such a coating. You need to keep this in mind even at the stage of purchasing the device and not be upset if this happens.
Finally, let's take a look at the front of the instrument.
Here we see a dispenser with two spouts and height adjustment. Spout height min. 8.5 cm, max. 14 cm.
The dispenser has a special grip handle. On the left we see the plastic nozzle of the cappuccinatore. The cappuccinatore can be turned left and right, but the tilt (up and down) cannot be adjusted.
Removable plastic cappuccinatore tube. A plastic spout is hidden under it, forming a jet of steam.
Above the dispenser is a control panel consisting of mechanical buttons and LED indicators (we will talk about control in detail in the corresponding section).
Finally, in the upper left corner of the front side, there is a knob for adjusting the steam intensity.
What are our impressions from the external examination? On the one hand, it is clear that the developer was trying to save money: our coffee machine does not have a number of functions or elements that we would like to see here (for example, a sound-absorbing gasket on the coffee grinder lid).
However, we did not feel that the savings in this case were at the expense of quality. Yes, in some places I would like more, but even without this everything looks more than worthy.
Manual
The coffee machine comes with a large number of printed materials, of which we are primarily interested, of course, in the manual. There are several of them - for different languages.
The Russian-language instruction is a black and white A5 brochure printed on high-quality matte paper.
The content of the manual is extremely rich: here you can find a large amount of information regarding the operation of the coffee machine, the features of preparing drinks, caring for the appliance, etc. etc. All actions are accompanied by illustrations.
If this is your first automatic coffee machine, we strongly recommend that you read the instructions carefully. If you have already worked with automatic coffee makers from De'Longhi, then it will not be difficult to deal with the device.
In this case, you will have to look into the instructions only to solve special situations.
Control
The interaction of the coffee machine with the user is carried out using mechanical buttons and a set of LED indicators. The rotary knob located in the center is responsible for setting the coffee strength - here we can set from 6 to 14 grams of coffee (there is no such information on the panel itself, there are only “more / less” marks). The LED indicators are hidden in the buttons, and some of them are behind a semi-transparent plastic panel located on the top of the device.
Let's look at the controls available to us and figure out why we need certain buttons or icons. The following buttons are available to us on the front panel:
- on/off. - turns on and off the device
- single espresso shot
- double espresso
- button for rinsing or decalcifying
- steam button
- single serving lungo
- double lungo
Thus, there are as many as four (!) buttons on the main panel, allowing you to make coffee of different sizes. At the same time, for both espresso and lungo, you can program your favorite volume. To do this, first hold down the desired button, and then stop the flow of the drink by pressing it again. After that, the volume is entered into the memory of the device, and a double portion is calculated by multiplying the volume of water twice.
LED indicators can inform the user about the following events:
- the machine is heating up
- 1 or 2 espresso cups in progress
- 1 or 2 cups of lungo are being prepared
- Steam function selected
- alarm (requires user attention)
- missing or full grounds container
- missing or empty water tank
- it's time to descale and clean the machine
- Power saving mode activated
In general, the controls seemed simple and intuitive to us. The indicator icons make it clear which element of the appliance requires the user's attention or intervention (it's time to fill in water, empty the coffee grounds container, etc. ).
The exceptions are situations when the user needs to get into some settings. For example, change the auto-off time, select an energy-saving mode, adjust the amount of coffee in a cup, or change the water temperature.
In this case, you will have to arm yourself with instructions and sequentially hold and release various buttons, while referring to the indicators that light up. It is hardly possible to perform such operations without instructions, guided by intuition or common sense.
Operation
When first turned on, the hydraulic system is empty and the unit may make excessive noise. The noise will decrease as the water circuit fills up (this will take a few seconds). The developer reports that the machine has been tested using coffee at the manufacturer, so traces of coffee in the coffee grinder are absolutely normal. This guarantees that the machine is new.
Before connecting the machine to the mains, fill the tank with water and place the dishes under the cappuccinatore (when you turn on the machine for the first time, it will flush the hydraulic system). It is also recommended to adjust the water hardness as soon as possible.
After the first use, the manufacturer recommends making 4-5 coffees and 4-5 cappuccinos in order to achieve satisfactory results.
Let's say right away that the machine keeps track not only of its own status, but also of many user actions. The device will remind you that it's time to add water, clean the drip tray with used coffee or add grain (there was no grain sensor in earlier versions of the same model!).
Let's now, as we usually do, take a quick look at the main elements of the coffee machine and note their salient features.
Water container
1.8 liter water container located on the right, accessible from the front. The container provides the possibility of installing a water softening filter. The container itself is easily (with one hand) removed and installed in its place. Water is poured through a small hole on top of the container.
Brewing unit
Behind the container is a plastic hatch and behind the hatch is a compact CRF brewing unit with pre-wet. The block requires periodic extraction and cleaning. The block is removed and installed using two snap buttons. Block capacity - up to 14 grams of coffee.
Pump
According to the instructions, our coffee machine is equipped with a 15 bar pump. How much worse is it than a pump with a pressure of 19 bar? Approximately not at all. The fact is that in this case the pressure at the outlet of the pump is indicated, and espresso is still prepared at a pressure of about 9bar. So you will not notice a fundamental difference between 15 and 19 bar.
Thermoblock
Without dismantling the coffee machine, we will not be able to see this, however, studying the information about the device, we found out that our device has two flow-through thermoblocks with a power of 1450 W - one for making coffee, the second for steam.
Cappuccinatore
Cappuccinatore of our coffee machine is manual. Depending on user habits and preferences, this can be both a plus and a minus.
On the one hand, by opting for such a solution, the user can save money (automatic cappuccinators of the LatteCrema system will cost significantly more), on the other hand, they will have to learn how to whip milk on their own, manually. But with a manual cappuccinatore (with a certain skill), you can be sure that the foam will turn out exactly the way it should. And for sure, it will be possible to prepare a “real cappuccino” by mixing espresso and milk foam in the correct sequence (and not all machines, even from the middle price segment, can do this).
Another plus of this solution is to note: when the steam supply is activated during warm-up, the machine automatically drains excess water from the steam circuit into the lower drip tray. Thus, when frothing milk with a manual cappuccinatore, no water is added to the milk. That is, before you start whipping milk, you do not need to manually drain the water into a separate container.
Due to its design, it will be comfortable to use cups up to 12. 5 cm high with the milk frother.
Coffee grinder
The coffee machine uses a burr grinder with steel conical burrs. The coffee grinder allows the installation of 13 different degrees of grinding, the adjustment is carried out manually, using a special wheel.
I must say that this coffee grinder is a kind of standard for a large number of De’Longhi coffee machines (only in the most modern and high-tech models coffee grinders with automatic grinding adjustment are used, or other millstones are found).
Compartment for waste coffee and drips
The waste container holds about 14 cups (meaning we will have to empty it after an average of 14 drinks). The container is taken out from the front, along with a compartment for collecting drops. How often you have to pour out the water depends on which drinks you prefer to prepare more often (the cappuccinatore cannot be left for a long time without starting cleaning, otherwise the milk will dry out, and this is an additional water consumption).
Maintenance
The coffee machine will in most cases prompt the user about the need to perform certain actions.
The following parts of the machine must be cleaned periodically:
- coffee grounds container
- drip tray and condensate tray
- water tank
- coffee dispenser spouts
- funnel for adding ground coffee
- internal part of the machine (accessible after opening the brewer window)
- infuser
The frequency of these operations is different: for example, the cappuccinatore must be cleaned after each use, the waste container will need to be cleaned when it is full or 72 hours after the last use of the machine, the drip tray - when the special indicator float "pops up".
Wash the water tank with detergent about once a month, the brewing unit at least once a month, the coffee spouts and the bean funnel as needed.
All the necessary information regarding the care of the appliance is contained in the instructions for the coffee machine, so we will not bore the reader with a detailed retelling.
Let's just say that the care of the device seemed to us a very simple task. Everything turned out to be arranged so logically that the need to perform certain actions did not cause us any discontent or irritation.
Our measurements
During testing, we have measured some parameters with which you can better imagine the capabilities of the coffee machine.
The maximum power consumption recorded by us was 1390 W, consumption in standby mode was 0.3-0.5 W.
Switching on (initial heating and rinsing) required 58 seconds and approx. 0.015 kWh of electricity.
Espresso (one cup) will take 46 seconds and require about 0.008 kWh. A double shot of espresso will be ready in 50 seconds. At the same time, electricity consumption will increase slightly - up to 0.01 kWh.
Single and double large coffees take 42 seconds and 1 minute 15 seconds respectively. Electricity consumption will be 0.017 and 0.023 kWh, respectively.
Preparing the cappuccinatore for operation (heating water to steam) will take 45-50 seconds.
We also measured the noise level during operation of the device (at a distance of 0.5 to 1 meter from the device).
With a background noise level of 35 dB, the coffee maker generated noise intensity up to 62-64 dB when pouring water and up to 86 dB when the coffee grinder was operating.
How does it feel subjectively? The coffee grinder is noisy, and noisy loud. This should be taken into account if this model is supposed to be used in a studio apartment or any other place where silence is important. But the flow of water and the operation of the brewing unit feel like a slight noise: therefore, if you don’t want to make noise at all, you can use pre-ground coffee.
Practice tests
During the test, we prepared various drinks from the list of built-in programs. We rate the quality of all of them as excellent: the coffee machine more than adequately coped with all the tasks set even at the factory settings, provided that we did not change the grinding settings and did not experiment with selecting the most suitable type of milk.
Therefore, in the “testing” section, we will focus mainly on the features of built-in recipes, and not on the quality of drinks.
Espresso
Classic espresso is excellent (in fact, the quality of the drink here will be the same as in other models based on the ECAM platform). The machine pre-wets the coffee for 1 second, after which it dispenses 40 ml of drink with a nice creamy foam.
Pre-wetting, we recall, is necessary so that the coffee is slightly “prepared” for the beginning of the water flow and its taste is revealed to the fullest.
It is possible to adjust the volume and strength in this mode, but not to control prewetting.
Result: excellent.
Double Espresso
The double shots in our machine are literally double shots, according to the saved volume. A double espresso is thus exactly twice the size of a single espresso.
Pre-wetting is carried out in the same way, and the user is also free to adjust the strength using a rotary knob.
Result: excellent.
Milk foam
The milk froth is frothed with the manual milk frother. As usual, we took milk with a high protein content (usually it also has a high fat content).
The foam whipped up without much difficulty. The machine gave out a stable stream of hot steam (while the pump is constantly running).
As a result, in a minute or two you can get milk foam that exactly meets your needs (of course, if you have the appropriate skill).
By mixing milk foam with espresso in the desired proportion, we get a cappuccino or other type of coffee drink with milk.
Result: excellent.
Big cup
Finally, let's take a look at the big cup mode. How much coffee will our machine make at one time? In the photo below - a standard cup from Ikea with a capacity of 230 ml. As we can see, the "double large cup" mode filled it to the brim.
We can, of course, program the size of the lungo serving according to our own requirements.
Result: excellent.
Conclusions
The Delonghi ECAM 22.110 Magnifica S coffee machine is an unequivocally proven, reliable, rather nice unit for the home, which produces excellent coffee at the output. Of course, here we have to put up with the lack of an automatic cappuccinatore and “advanced” controls, but we still have the same ECAM platform in front of us, and therefore, the quality of coffee will be the same as that of older models in this series.
In our opinion, Delonghi ECAM 22.110 Magnifica S is a more than adequate offer (among machines with a manual cappuccinatore). Of course, in this price category, several slot machines from different manufacturers compete for the championship at once, therefore, when making a purchase decision, it will not be superfluous to inquire about the availability of promotions and discounts: from time to time there are especially advantageous offers that allow us to call 22.110 the best purchase in terms of price and quality .
Pros:
- easy maintenance
- intuitive operation
- full ECAM platform
Cons:
- no automatic milk frother
- rather noisy
What can your coffee machine do?
The ability to make delicious coffee is a sign of the skill of a barista, and not everyone can master the art of this profession at the proper level. But the fact that a modern coffee machine allows you to speed up and simplify the creation of this drink is not questioned by almost anyone. After all, in the end, the cooking process comes down to pressing a couple of buttons on the control panel. What could be easier? On the other hand, there is a misconception that coffee machines operate according to a template scheme and are not able to achieve the same quality, provide such a diverse range of coffee compositions as an experienced specialist. To paraphrase a famous joke: it's the "wrong coffee machines" that make the "wrong coffee".
In fact, good coffee machines, which, of course, are the devices from DeLonghi, are able to regularly delight their owner with almost any type of coffee that was once invented. And, by the way, there is nothing wrong with the fact that they really work according to a pre-programmed pattern. That is, they exactly maintain the necessary temperature indicators, the proportions of water, the degree of grinding, observe other subtleties that you may not even suspect!
Espresso and derivatives
Without exaggeration, espresso is the main element of all coffee compositions. By the way, the word is pronounced exactly like “espresso”, and not “expresso”, as you can sometimes hear. Consider how most DeLonghi devices prepare it:
- Espresso coffee machine prepares with strict observance of the classic recipe. Serving volume - 30-40 ml, coffee is pre-wetted; pump pressure - up to 19 bar and above. Here, people with some experience may argue that the pressure for espresso should not exceed 9-ty and . .. will be right. But the specifications of coffee machines, and not only DeLonghi, indicate the pressure of the pump, but the same magical nine remains at the outlet of the espresso chamber. The grinding of beans should be no higher than average, so check the settings of the built-in coffee grinder. The number of ground grains is 7-9 grams. The temperature at the outlet of the spout does not exceed 90°C, in the cup the drink will be even colder, around 70°C. So there is no reason to worry if the espresso does not burn your lips, this is just quite normal and natural.
- Double espresso (doppio). How it differs from the usual one is easy to guess. The serving is twice as large, that is, up to 60-80 ml. The drink can literally shock with a charge of energy, so be careful and do not drink it too often. Once a day is enough!
- Triplo. Triple option for the most daring. However, it should be taken into account that “by default” it may be absent in the programs of the coffee machine.
- Ristretto. Available as standard on some DeLonghi coffee machines. Unlike the drinks listed above, it has a lower caffeine content. And the portion itself comes out smaller (15-20 ml).
- Lungo. There is more caffeine per serving than espresso, but it's still not the same as doppio. There is twice as much water in lungo (60-80 ml).
- Americano. A lot of espresso (up to 90-100 ml) and also a lot of water. You can even safely increase the amount of water in a serving compared to the standard, the classic recipe will not be broken. Actually, this is precisely the “trick” of Americano.
There are other varieties of espresso coffee compositions, but one article is not enough to consider them all. In addition, exotics like espresso romano are definitely not included in the standard settings of coffee machines.
Milkshakes
They are based on the same espresso. But already with the addition of milk and / or milk foam. In principle, foam is easy to make with a mixer or by hand. But the company also has coffee machines with an automatic cappuccinatore that whips milk with a powerful jet of superheated steam in seconds. Milk quality matters a lot! DeLonghi coffee machines include the following coffee and milk drinks in the standard settings:
- Cappuccino - the drink consists of a third of milk, a third of milk foam and a third of espresso on top of milk;
- Cappuccino+ – cappuccino according to the previous recipe, but instead of espresso, coffee prepared according to the Doppio+ program;
- Latte macchiato - the ratio of milk, coffee and foam is the same as in cappuccino, but the portion of the drink is larger, up to 220 ml;
- Cappuccino mix - originally an original recipe for making cappuccino, in which espresso is first brewed, and whipped milk is already added to it;
- Espresso macchiato Espresso shot with a small head of milk foam;
- Latte - three portions of milk with one portion of espresso;
- Flat White - Lungo coffee with a double portion of milk and a little milk foam.
Someone prefers the technique with a mechanical cappuccinatore, believing that it allows you to more accurately and accurately adjust the height and density of the foam. Although automation has different settings. But this is a matter of taste, and it cannot be said that mechanics are better or worse than automation.
And you should never fill the automatic cappuccino machine to the brim if you are going to prepare only one or two servings of cappuccino - the milk is guaranteed to spoil in a day. For the same reason, be sure to flush the system after each milkshake preparation to prevent clogging of the conductive tubes.
Italian style
Separately, it is worth mentioning an interesting feature of DeLonghi coffee machines, emphasizing their Italian origin. Without exception, all devices of this brand prepare espresso in accordance with the traditions adopted in the Apennines. For example, a standard cup of Americano never exceeds 90 ml, and espresso never exceeds 30 ml.
