  3. What curtains are in fashion now

The design of the room cannot be complete and stylish without textiles - it is he who places color accents and makes the atmosphere cozy. Curtains are especially important in the interior. They play a practical and aesthetic role: they protect from bright sunlight, visually adjust the size of the room, give the atmosphere privacy and completeness. To get a modern interior, you need to take into account current trends in design and choose fashionable models of curtains.

Content:

Which curtains are in trend

In recent years, the design has shifted the focus on external beauty to the practicality of the premises. Bulky designs with lambrequins and complex drapery are no longer relevant, concise and functional options are in trend. If we talk about what curtains are in fashion now, we can distinguish the following trends:

The material of the curtains is different - it can be transparent light tulle or heavy blackout curtains. In 2022-2023, the trend is natural cotton, linen, semi-synthetic fabrics based on viscose, velvet, quilted fabrics.

Fashion models

When decorating the interior, you need to consider which curtains are now in fashion for the living room, bedroom, kitchen, nursery and other rooms.

Simple curtains

Traditional straight sliding curtains to the floor look actual and beautiful. This model is combined with classic and modern design trends. You can hang these curtains in the hall, kitchen-living room, bedroom or office. They protect well from the sun and look good when extended.

Please note. Laconic curtains are a classic that will be popular in a few years. They won't have to renew them after a couple of seasons.

Curtains can be hung on their own or supplemented with light transparent curtains, roller blinds. In modern interiors, designers recommend using high-quality fabrics as a pair of curtains - light linen, cotton, viscose. Choose laconic models without embroidery, frills and other decors.

Roman shades

Discreet stylish curtains up to the window sill, which are attached directly to the window. When opened, they rise up, gathering in beautiful folds or horizontal stripes.

Roman blinds appeared with us not so long ago, but this model immediately became popular due to its advantages:

An important nuance. Roman blinds are an economical model. Sewing a roll structure requires significantly less material than curtains to the floor.

Japanese curtains

These are unusual curtains in the form of panels or screens that rigidly hold their shape thanks to fasteners at the top and bottom. They are installed close to each other or overlap. To open the panels are moved to the side - they can be moved to one or different sides. The design includes an upper and lower cornice along which the screen moves. There are models with only the top mount and weighting at the bottom for rigidity.

These minimalist ethnic curtains are all the rage right now, so check them out if you want to create a trendy design.

Tip. Japanese panels can be installed directly on the windows or at a distance from them, for example, to separate the bay area.

Roller shutters

It is difficult to find more simple and concise curtains for windows than roller blinds, and it is their minimalistic design that makes them fashionable. They are a rectangle made of fabric, synthetic fabric or other flexible material slightly larger than the double-glazed window on the sash. Roller blinds are raised by twisting the canvas around a shaft fixed in the upper part of the window.

Dense shutters completely exclude the visibility of the room from the street and reliably protect from direct sunlight. In the light version, they practically do not darken the room and do not attract attention. Dark shutters are more striking, but cool the room better. They are preferable if the windows face the sunny side.

Please note. Roller blinds go well with traditional curtains. They can be installed in addition to transparent curtains or classic long curtains.

Blinds

Blinds are a structure of thin rigid plates that rotate in a horizontal plane to change the amount of light transmitted inside. They are practical, do not require complex maintenance, look interesting and effectively darken the room.

Traditionally, blinds are used to decorate office and commercial facilities. In apartments and houses, it is recommended to install them in the kitchen, office or living room. For a bedroom or children's room, they are too urban and uncomfortable.

Designer's recommendation. Aluminum blinds are ideal for high-tech, contemporary, loft or minimalist interiors. Wooden or bamboo models will fit well into an eclectic design, eco-style or boho. It is better not to use budget plastic options in residential apartments.

What to consider when choosing a color

The fashion palette consists of soothing shades found in nature. But also when choosing the color of curtains, you need to consider the following nuances:

Important! Do not rely only on the catalog - the curtains in the photo are always different from reality. Hold the fabric in your hands, see how the color plays in daylight and artificial lighting, when light falls from different angles.

Curtains for living room

Usually the hall is the largest room in the apartment, so there are no restrictions on the size of the room when choosing curtains. You need to focus on the decor and decoration of the living room. If the room is full of furniture and decors, it is better to hang light neutral curtains so as not to overload the interior. In a living room with free space, bright curtains with an expressive pattern will be appropriate.

Multi-tiered floor-to-ceiling textile structures look good in a spacious hall. Such models are perfectly combined with the interior in the style of classicism, modern, art deco, fusion. For a small room, minimalism, loft, Scandinavian style are suitable - laconic Roman blinds, roller blinds and Japanese panels are optimal for them.

Tip. When choosing curtains for the hall, look at photos of finished designer interiors and study the latest window textile trends to get inspired and get ideas.

Bedroom curtains

When choosing curtains for a sleeping room, do not forget about the atmosphere of comfort and relaxation. It is important to darken the room well, especially if its windows face south. For this, classic curtains and blackout roller blinds in combination with light light curtains are suitable. Choose neutral colors for the bedroom: in cream, peach, white, blue or silver-gray.

Curtains for children's room

For a nursery, fashionable curtains in soothing colors are suitable, but with an interesting print - the pattern can be quite bright. For example, geometric patterns look good, echoing other elements of the decor (furniture shape, wallpaper pattern). It is important not to overload the interior with bright colors, so as not to irritate the psyche. But we shouldn’t make the interior boring either - the design of the room should help develop the child’s imagination.

Particular attention should be paid to materials for the children's room. Here they should be as natural and safe as possible.

Kitchen curtains

Trendy curtains for the kitchen in a modern style should be practical. A good option is short Roman or roll models. Scandi, retro (country, Provence), minimalism, hi-tech are well suited in style.

Fashionable beautiful curtains do not overload the room and do not draw all the attention to themselves. They protect well from the sun and unobtrusively complement the design. When choosing a model, consider the style, purpose and characteristics of the room.
