An Expert Explains How to Achieve the Modern Look
Liljencrantz DesignNew York City-based interior designer Rian Smith describes contemporary design style as mixing modern and transitional elements in a warm and fresh way to create a cohesive space. In Smith's experience, it's all about achieving a balance between these two styles—which is easier said than done.
Read on for 20 expert tips for how to incorporate contemporary flair into your home.

Thomas Dalhoff DESIGN: Brett Mickan Interior Design
According to Smith, white walls allow furniture pieces to pop in a contemporary living room. Here, an abstract rug provides the perfect burst of color in this otherwise neutral space. The design feels entirely of the moment.

Tessa Neustadt
White walls and a white ceiling to match give this room an effortlessly clean feel. There's something intriguing about the way the different materials between the walls and the beams in the ceiling match in color, playing with the pure white couches. Interior designer Tessa Neustadt has mastered the contemporary vibe in this room.

Preston Schlebusch for the New York Times DESIGN: Studio BD
When Smith pictures a contemporary living room, Smith thinks, "Nothing too fancy or decorative but rather clean looking and fitted." This room certainly fits the description. Straight lines and raised furniture create a linear environment that's entirely contemporary. Plus the unique overhead lighting makes a statement without creating clutter or overpowering the room.

BHDMSmith recommends using geometric patterns and subtle colors to create texture. Take note of the texture of the throw pillow in this contemporary living room and how it interacts with the patterned rug and geometric wall art. The mix of brass, wood, and black accents also creates a dreamy space that is so "now. "

White Arrow
Though the walls in this room remain neutral, the furniture and décor are far from it. "Contemporary [style] is about balancing the trends that are going on while integrating those modern touches," Smith says.
Here, subtle furniture mixes with a dynamic rug to create a balance of styles. It's all tied together with a brass legged glass table—the epitome of contemporary and modern.

BHDMSmith pictures wooden buffet tables and tv consoles for a contemporary living room. The style is timeless, but when it's arranged with intricate wall hangings and a mix of patterns and textures like this BHDM-designed space, it becomes seriously in vogue.

Ragnar Ómarsson; DESIGN: Pella Hedeby
This living room features a portrait set in a black frame, another design element Smith considers distinctly contemporary. "Black-framed portraits with soft landscapes—nothing super colorful or eye-catching," Smith recommends.

Black Lacquer
A bold green accent wall creates a dynamic environment where wood flooring and a crisp white couch are challenged by a bright pop of color. While the wall might seem extreme, it works as a balance between subtle and daring.

Space Exploration
When it comes to contemporary furniture, Smith's home décor list includes basket-woven material. This living room pairs two woven chairs with a warm, earth-toned rug and a deep blue sofa. The elements come together to create a contemporary space that seems to flow right up the staircase.

This living room boasts a statement marble fireplace and linear furniture. The space feels open yet full of character and rather inviting, thanks to ample seating options and a coffee table that ties the space together.

According to Smith, a modern lighting fixture works especially well in a contemporary living room when it's grounded by soft fabrics and light colors. This white-on-white space allows the lighting fixture to make a statement. In addition, the black-and-white marble fireplace elevates the entire room.

Use plants to update any living room into a contemporary yet calming oasis. "I'd recommend a large fiddle-leaf fig planted in a simple colored pot," says Smith. According to Smith, the size of the plant can help create balance in the space.

When it comes to fabric choices, a light leather piece screams contemporary design. Smith suggests going for anything in a chestnut, camel, or bone color. This unique light brown leather couch pictured creates warmth and plays well off the deep purple-toned rug.

Fran Parente DESIGN: Ashe+Leandro
Pops of creams and natural wood tones abound in this contemporary living room. This color palette, paired with linear furniture and clean shapes, strikes the perfect balance of fresh and warm. Plus, the high ceiling and large windows make the entire space feel open and inviting.

Completely matching your furniture isn't required when going for contemporary décor. For example, feel free to pair your new upholstered couch with a worn-in, wood-backed armchair like this living room. Or place a rounded coffee table with a few rectangular side tables. Mix and match materials, patterns, and time periods.

Contemporary décor might just be about the ultimate luxury: Lots of natural light. So open those curtains and window treatments. If your drapes are too dark, replace them with lighter or sheer drapery. In this photo, we're loving this living room's bright white walls and clean lines.

Once you've nailed down natural light and clean lines, for example, infuse some personality into your contemporary living room with a few quirky details. Whether it's a clock in a standout shape (like this starburst-esque design, pictured), or a few plant holders in contrasting patterns, utilize home décor accents to make the space your own.

Any space can benefit from open concept area-defining principles, like using rugs to delineate a space, and grouping your furniture to create gathering and seating areas.
For a contemporary living room, think "soothing, calm, tranquil, and cool, but not cold," Smith says.

Contemporary interior design is about innovation and change
By Joanne Quinn, Senior Interior Designer
Whether your choice of interior design aesthetic is Art Deco, Mid-Century or Period, contemporary living room ideas are always fun to consider and can inspire your decorating choices – even if you don’t class yourself as a ‘contemporary person’.
Herein lies the first question – what actually is contemporary design? What makes this space by Studio Ashby contemporary? And after that – what defines it? What are the ways that you can reference it in your own living room?
What is Contemporary Interior Design?
Contemporary interiors are often thought of as being ultra minimal with an abundance of razor-sharp lines, graphic prints and high-shine materials and surfaces. It’s talked of as being dynamic and daring. It’s praised for pushing boundaries and its mastery of light and reflection. It’s criticised for being stark and clinical.
All of these points are certainly true of contemporary interiors, but there are more layers to it than that. It is a design movement reflective of the here and now, representing a breakaway from traditional decoration.
As you journey through the centuries of interior design styles and influences, from Neoclassical and Rococo to Mid-Century and Shaker, there’s a constant sway between ornamentation and bare, curves and straight lines, and ornate carvings versus geometric cut-outs. But ironically, these historical periods of design will have been contemporary at one point.
Contemporary design is about innovation and change that presents us with something fresh, different and, at times, disruptive from what we’ve seen before.

How to Design a Contemporary Style Living Room?
A contemporary living room design can reach multiple aspects of your room. Or if you wish to create a more eclectic interior with just the occasional contemporary-style pieces, you can opt to bring it only one or two of-the-now references.
Remember though that a Modern living room is different to a contemporary one. Modern design is linked to the early 20th century and is much less fluid because it is affixed to a specific time. Modern is an umbrella term that covers what later became Mid-century and after that Post-modernism.
Each of the modern design movements has a clear identity, whereas contemporary design is constantly influx, borrowing inspiration from various eras of design and melding them into something new and exciting.
1. Use of Colour
Colour – one of the most important areas for contemporary lounge ideas. It’s a common misconception that a contemporary scheme is all about bright white. Contemporary living rooms should actually have a stark contrast in the colours used, even if you’ve predominantly used white and there’s one key piece of furniture in the room that purposefully sticks out.
Monochrome is a favourite because it lets you move from one extreme to the other. Keep your colour choices confident and don’t be nervous about moving across the colour wheel. Contemporary colour palettes are strong and love to create interesting contradictions. That’s part of what makes them so dynamic.
2. Incorporate Varied Lines in your Design
Another of the main associations with contemporary design is that lines should always be clean and crisp. It’s another story of contrast though. It’s the modern movements that put all their focus onto strong lines.
Contemporary style on the other hand prefers to mix the two. If you have a curvaceous ottoman and sofa set, bring in a modern art-style sculpture or an edgy pendant light that will command attention and provide diversity.
3. Contemporary Style Furniture
One of the commonalities in contemporary-style furniture is that the legs of sofas and armchairs are almost always on show. Tapered, angled wooden legs are preferred over traditional turned ones on castor feet or ones hidden under a skirt. Your surfaces and other furniture should mix exposed metals and glass with the occasional appearance from exposed wood.
Marble continues to reign supreme in contemporary interiors as much as in traditional ones, but here is where your lines should be uncomplicated. Smooth, strong, statuesque furniture in marble is the answer in a contemporary living room.
Be mindful that too many finishes and shapes can tip your room into being muddled. Contemporary design might favour a mixture of design influences, but eclectic can quickly become unfocused and confused.
4. Accent with Metal
Metal in contemporary-style living rooms isn’t to be kept for tables and larger pieces of furniture alone.
Use metallic accents like hammered, polished steel on everything from photo frames and metal-trimmed trays to the edging of a floor length mirror or on oversized floor lamps.
Glossy brass on an exposed armchair’s frame, a gleaming gold vase or a cuff around a wall or clock are all steps to giving your living room a contemporary edge.
Greg Natale understands the power of metallic in this eastern Sydney project. Retro-inspired furniture trimmed with wide brass collar bases, metal mirror edging and unique metal decor complete the look.
5. Add Texture
Texture is one of the few laws of any room’s decorating scheme, regardless of the style you’re influenced by. Even if you were drawn to the less-is-more side of contemporary design, you’d still need to build layers of texture.
Texture can be as minimal or maximal as the rest of your decorating choices. Sleek and sophisticated metals, against supple leathers and matte, honed marble will give you three different but subtle textures to keep your mind interested and your eye active.
Texture isn’t all about what’s tactile either. You can achieve texture in your living room by combining colour and lighting too – anything that adds a visual stimuli and anything that plays with light.
6. Consider your Lighting Options
Much like with texture, lighting ideas for a contemporary living room should move from ceiling to floor as they would in any style of space. Recessed spotlights are particularly contemporary and work well in any room, especially when combined with accent lighting.
Try adding a highly sculptural pendant light that acts as artwork, or an understated design that hugs the ceiling if you want something more pared-back.
A contemporary living room is also one of the only styles where you can get away with using strips of LED lighting without it impacting the overall look. Use them to act as a border around your ceiling or hidden in soffits and dropped ceilings (like in this Taylor Howes space) to highlight the architecture and to emphasise a clean, geometric shape.
Table and floor lights are a must and, although very much a typically traditional lighting feature, the use of wall lights has been on the rise with unique modern designs by the likes of Kelly Wearstler, Lindsey Adelman and Lee Broom.
Keep to the same two finishes on your lighting to prevent clashing and mix up the light design so they’re not all from the same collection. Conical, flared shades, anglepoise lamps, large arched stems with oversized domed shades on floor lamps, and abstract ceiling shades are all welcome in the same space.
7. Other Contemporary Design Elements
And finally, don’t be fooled into thinking that contemporary living room ideas are only achievable in a contemporary setting.
Contemporary design can be pulled off in everything from a new-build apartment in the city to a Georgian townhouse in Oxford or Cambridge. In fact, it can thrive there. After all, contemporary design loves to create contrasts and to show just how much it’s evolved from what’s been done before.

The modern direction includes a variety of styles: from eco and scandi to minimalism and hi-tech. And the contemporary interiors themselves are not similar to each other - as opposed to the classics, there are no conventions and a mandatory set of elements. Therefore, the living room can be both a luxurious room with wood and marble decoration, and a cozy chamber room in pastel colors.
But there are still common features - you can rely on them when thinking about the design of a living room in a modern style:
- Open space. The fewer walls and partitions, the better. There should be a lot of light and air in the room - even if the area is small. Most often, the hall is combined with the kitchen; in addition, you can remove the door between the hall and the hallway. Use light zoning: instead of piers and solid partitions - different textures, finishes, colors, floor or ceiling levels.
- Calm tones. The palette can be anything, but it's best to follow the 60/30/10 rule. The main color is the base (beige, gray, white, brown), the second is more saturated, the third is the brightest. For accents, choose noble, eye-pleasing shades: wine instead of bright red, emerald green instead of acid green, etc.
- Simple forms. The modern direction gravitates towards visual simplicity - this is due to the ideas of minimalism, which has now become the basis of design, and not just a trend. Choose laconic furniture without unnecessary details: this will reduce visual noise, and the eye will smoothly move from one object to another.
- Ergonomics. First of all, the space should be comfortable for living. This is especially important in small apartments, where a lot of furniture needs to be placed on a small footage. Thinking through the layout, immediately imagine how you will then exist in this room. Provide passages between furniture, free space in order to open cabinet doors or drawers, the location of outlets.
- Freedom. Arrange the furniture in the way that is convenient for you, combine loft lamps with classic stucco, abandon the traditional large kitchen, use catchy decor. The main thing is that the atmosphere reflects your character and that you feel comfortable in it, because we spend most of our time in the living room.

Living room
Fashionable living room interior in an apartment: 8 bright trends for 2022
Now let's take a step-by-step look at how to design a living room in a modern style in an apartment or a private house.
Layout
The number of functional areas and furniture depends on the size of the room and its tasks.
Instagram @union.architects
Most often, the living room is combined with a kitchen and dining room, sometimes with a bedroom or office. Based on this, planning and zoning are built.
- Kitchen combination. The cooking zone is usually isolated and done at the entrance. The dining group zones the space: it can be a bar counter, an island or a classic dining table. The seating area is located in the back of the room, usually by the window.
- Combination with bedroom. Here, everything is the opposite: a soft group and recreation areas at the entrance, since this is a “public” part, a sleeping place is in the depths.
- Separate room. This is the simplest option, the content of which depends on the proportions of the living room and the lifestyle of the owners. You can limit yourself to a sofa group, a TV and a couple of storage systems. Or, if space permits, add a workplace, a creative corner, make a mini-library with a comfortable reading chair.
It is important that the layout is comfortable for life, and the space is not divided into small cramped compartments. If you use partitions for zoning, choose light, light-transmitting models: slats, open shelving, glass screens.

Color range
Choosing a palette is a matter of taste and overall design of an apartment or house.
Instagram @osome.studio
You can follow the trends or use your favorite colors. In any case, remember the basic rules of color:
- Light colors visually increase the space, dark colors reduce it. This does not mean that it is forbidden to use the latter in a small living room, but do it in a dosed manner and dilute them with light shades.
- If the windows face north, add as many warm tones as possible to the palette - they will make the living room more cozy and sunny. If there is enough natural light, pay attention to cold shades: gray, blue, blue, mint, etc.
- The optimal number of elements in the palette is three. Four or more are difficult to harmoniously combine, you can get a clumsy and too colorful interior. If you take one or two primary colors, use several shades and different textures so that the monochrome interior does not seem boring.
- Neutral base colors - white, gray, beige - need to be diluted with something to make the space look voluminous and interesting.
- Achromats go equally well with any color. Combine other shades according to their color temperature: warm with warm, cold with cold. If you want to make a contrasting combination, balance it with a neutral shade: gray-beige, white, black.
When choosing colors, it is important not only what they will be, but also where they will be located. The palette is a great zoning tool, so group the shades so that they emphasize different areas or highlight the desired part of the space.

Make no mistake: 7 important tips for choosing interior colors
Finishing
In a modern living room, finishing can be either a neutral background or a full-fledged decorative element.
Instagram @alexey_volkov_ab
In addition, any material can be used here: from textile wallpaper to microcement or brick. Unlike the bathroom, kitchen and hallway, this room does not have special requirements for finishing. It is enough to choose high-quality, environmentally friendly and beautiful materials - they can be both natural and artificial.
Floor
Most often, parquet, quartz vinyl, engineering board, porcelain stoneware or laminate are laid in the hall. The latter is the most inexpensive, so it is suitable for budget repairs. The coating is usually made 2-3 tones darker than the walls, so that the finish creates a smooth gradient from the floor to the ceiling. The best option from a visual point of view is the texture of the tree. Choose the shade of the flooring taking into account the overall color temperature so that the floor does not stand out from the palette and does not attract too much attention.

Ceiling
The simplest and most versatile option is a smooth one-level white ceiling. This finish is suitable for a room of any size. If the room is low, a simple trick will help to make it visually higher and more spacious - paint the walls and ceiling in the same color to erase the boundaries. In this case, the shade can be any, not necessarily light.
You can add decorative elements (stucco, wooden beams) or use a two-level stretch fabric, thus highlighting one or more functional areas.

Walls
Unlike the bedroom, where the decoration should be as calm and comfortable as possible so as not to interfere with rest, in the living room you can experiment with wall decoration. For example, make one accent or combine 2-3 finishing materials, emphasizing different areas and placing visual accents.
Any materials will do:
- High-quality wallpaper (if you have animals or children at home, pay attention to fiberglass - it is vandal-resistant and easy to clean).
- Decorative plaster.
- Wood, marble or stone effect panels.
- Regular paint.
Even if the room is large, you shouldn't use an active print and catchy textures on all four walls - you will end up with a clumsy and completely unstylish combination. It is better to focus on 1-2 surfaces, and for the rest, choose a neutral monophonic design. Also remember that the brighter the furniture, the calmer the finish should be. And if you want to hang pictures, posters or other wall decor, neutral tones are best emphasized: white, light gray, cream.

Furniture
Each room has its own piece of furniture: in the bedroom it is a bed, in the kitchen it is a suite.
Instagram @union.architects
In the living room, the sofa almost always takes center stage. The rest of the composition is built around it: a coffee table, armchairs or pouffes, a TV, storage systems.
When choosing upholstered furniture, the following are important:
- The quality of the upholstery - it should not only be pleasant to the touch, but also durable. Manufacturers offer fabrics with a variety of additional characteristics: impregnations against dirt, dust and grease stains, with a stretch effect that prevents the seat from sagging and wiping, etc.
- Color - upholstered furniture occupies the same 30% of the palette. If you want to make the sofa and armchairs accent, use rich, but noble shades: plum, burgundy, terracotta, olive or emerald, blue. For a more relaxed design, shades of beige, gray, brown are suitable. A white sofa looks bold and impressive.
- Functionality - for example, if the apartment is small, it makes sense to take a folding model so that there is an extra bed. Or a sofa with storage drawers under the seat. Pay attention to modular systems - from them you can assemble a soft group for your needs of any size and shape.
You will also need storage systems. Usually this is a TV cabinet, shelving, hanging or niche shelves. The room can accommodate a modern sideboard and bookcase.

How to create the perfect soft zone in the living room: 7 ways to combine sofa and armchairs
Decor
The main rule when choosing a decor is that it should be thoughtful and concise.
Instagram @archi.tash
Let it be a little, so as not to create a feeling of disorder, but each item is chosen consciously. Looks good in a contemporary living room:
- Paintings by contemporary artists, graphics and posters in simple frames.
- Laconic vases, figurines or figurines.
- Books and albums in beautiful editions.
- Scented candles and diffusers.
- Ceramic tableware.
- Cozy textiles: decorative pillows, carpet, curtains.
In order not to litter the room, show your imagination. For example, if you travel a lot, do not force all the surfaces with the same type of figurines from souvenir shops. Hang a beautiful map of the world on the wall behind the sofa: in a wooden format or in the form of a poster on which you can mark the countries you have visited. And if you collect something, allocate a beautiful backlit rack for the collection - let the little things be stored in an orderly manner.

Main trends in modern living room design
Modern interior goes beyond the usual: it is for those who keep up with the times. His fashion trends and styles are interesting and unique in their rationality.
Industrial exposes wires, ceiling beams, pipes, fittings. In a spacious room, the negligence of bare walls is deliberately emphasized, and old things serve as decor. This design creates the effect of a factory room in which they decided to live.
For modern apartments, “old” walls and industrial lighting fixtures (street lamps, spotlights, etc.) are borrowed from the industrial style. Rough leather upholstery and studded metal tables complete the interior concept.
Scandinavian design. Its basis is quality factor and reliability. Hence the moderate decor, functionality, a lot of light and simplicity. White color, natural textiles and wood are actively used. Bright pillows, chairs or lamps act as color accents. The interior is complemented by “airy” glass tables, convenient storage systems, soft carpets and indoor plants.
Photo of modern living room in Scandinavian style:
Modern: minimalism, elegance and comfort in neutral tones complemented by bright details. The interior is dominated by pastel colors or the fabric texture of wallpaper combined with natural wood flooring. The shades are muted, the furniture is comfortable, functional, with smooth lines.
Style requires a lot of light, so there is a window to the floor or multi-level lighting. For decor, indoor plants, light curtains, frescoes and paintings depicting nature are used.
Techno. Chaotic, fantastic design, full of glass, plastic and metal. Technological progress dominates here, and the cool shades of the surfaces are compensated by the shimmering gloss of the details. The techno-living room is an interior with minimalistic, squat sofas, futuristic lamps, strange-looking transformer lamps and all sorts of technical details.
Conscious chaos in a photo of a living room in a modern techno style:
Minimalism models the space of a room with functional pieces and accessories united by the harmony of color. The interior of the hall is bright and contrasting, but does not exclude the design in deep and warm accent colors. "Cubic" furniture without pretentious details is adjacent to glass and gloss. The basis of style is practicality and functionality. No ornament: only the uniformity of coatings and expressive angularity throughout.
Loft. Room "without walls" and partitions, with high ceilings and huge windows. Raw brickwork of the walls, wooden beams of the floors, pastel-colored panels - deliberate rudeness and ascetic design. And next to it are ultra-modern appliances and glass furniture with chrome details. Unexpected proportions and original design dominate here.
Here is an example of a photo of a bright living room in a modern loft style:
Hi-tech is restraint, an abundance of glass, metal, multifunctional structures and lamps. The interior is distinguished by a cold glossy sheen, strict proportions and monochrome tones in the decoration. The almost complete rejection of decor brings to the fore the cult of high technology and light. The lack of emotions in the design of the apartment is compensated by expensive accessories. Bright textiles bring this realm of graphics and contrast to life:
Contemporary living room interiors. Color solutions photo
Modern design is a canvas with the basic touches of a common idea. Then it's up to the color scheme, in which pastel colors are preferred. We must not forget about the orientation of the windows in the apartment: the northern location allows you to use warm shades, and the southern location allows you to use cold blue, purple and metallic gray.
Basic colors of modern design - white and its derivatives (baked milk, beige, ivory, cream), black, gray. Against a pale background, sofas taken from different styles look favorably. So that the living room does not look “flat” and featureless, “spots” are added in the form of accessories (pillows, vases, lamps), wallpaper ornaments on one of the walls or upholstery.
Cold blue changes before our eyes paired with warm tones (beige, golden, sand, olive). The hall is bright, cool and airy.
Modern living room design in interior photo in blue and beige:
Red, yellow and orange are energetic colors that dilute the calmness of modern style. Against the background of light colors, they look juicy, but slightly muffled, making the cozy interior lively and festive.
The traditional design of a modern living room is gray and its shades (hi-tech, modern, loft). Combinations with white and black create a discreet and elegant design.
Furniture and lighting in a modern interior: selection rules
A comfortable family room for relaxation or noisy communication with friends should be practically furnished and well-lit.
Furniture
Clear, simple shapes, modular design, mobility and versatility are the main style requirements. Cumbersomeness does not look in a modern interior: it is based on space, air and maximum light in the apartment. Squat cabinets, low soft chairs and hanging console shelves are the best choice.
Sofa. Large, soft, with straight or flowing lines, it is the centerpiece of a modern room. Traditional corner or popular small sofas create a cozy atmosphere and do not take up much space. A spacious room allows you to add soft armchairs and chairs, as in this photo of a living room in a modern style:
Coffee table is appropriate in a rectangular or round shape, without decorative elements. The glass one will add lightness and “airiness” to the interior, and the modular design-matryoshka of several tables is indispensable in a large company of guests. In some modern style trends (for example, a loft), a massive vintage antique table looks extravagant.
Light
Lighting sets the tone for everything. Sconces or spotlights are selected for the central chandelier. The current trend is beautiful original floor lamps of bizarre shapes. A row of lamps in a straight or stepped design looks stylish, as in this photo of a modern living room:
Sometimes an unusual combination of directional lamps and LED lamps is used. For watching TV and enjoying music, a dim backlight is mounted, and for reading books - side sconces.
Multi-level ceilings with built-in spotlights are characteristic of modern style. They visually increase the space, and the quality of lighting is enhanced by the gloss finish and light translucent curtains (or their absence). Sometimes mirrors of strict geometric shapes are used in the living room.
The main task of furniture and lighting is to visually push the boundaries and give light. This is especially important in small living rooms.
Modern interior of a small living room
When every meter is precious, it is important to combine a classic approach with innovative ideas and use design techniques. The following tricks will help you achieve space:
- No curtains on the windows. Alternative options are white tulle, light cream-colored blinds;
- Light wallpaper on the walls and delicate shades of the ceiling;
- Mirrors and mirror inserts on cabinets, walls or in the sofa area;
- Compact multifunctional furniture and a minimum of accessories (they are being replaced by houseplants).
A small room does not tolerate eye-catching patterns on the wallpaper. But decorative fireplaces, niches, open console shelves and podiums are the most practical attributes of modern style. It is possible to expand the space due to the balcony or the combination of the living room with the kitchen.
Lighting plays an important role in small rooms. A combination of several sources is appropriate here (chandelier, sconce, lamps). The space of the hall will visually increase if the light is directed to the walls. A peculiar design idea for such premises is a high-tech interior, practical, strict and without unnecessary details.
Photos of real projects
Strict lines of minimalism or techno live not only in catalogs. All modern living rooms, photos of which are presented below, were brought to life in ordinary city apartments.
