If you have kids or pets in your home, you might want to look into stain- and tear-resistant fabrics. But don’t worry: That doesn’t mean you have to opt for uninviting fabric or anything with a less-than-wonderful feel. “Leather is wonderful and velvet is surprisingly kid/pet-friendly,” says interior designer Emily Henderson.
