Good suction performance is arguably one of the most important aspects of a vacuum and is important for finding the best suction vacuum. If you want to effectively pick up debris like sand from shaggy carpet or rice from tile flooring, it can be beneficial to know a vacuum's suction power, airflow, and wattage. However, aside from its wattage, these numbers aren't always advertised by the manufacturer. To approximate a vacuum's suction power, we consider vacuums with a good overall performance or better across all surface types. Vacuum cleaners with better and more consistent performances tend to have good suction as they can pick up a variety of debris without too much of a problem.

We've tested over 130 vacuum cleaners, and below are our recommendations for the best suction vacuum cleaners to buy. These picks were selected not only based on their performance on different types of surfaces but also their feature set, battery life, and price. For more recommendations, take a look at our list of the best multi-surface vacuum cleaners, the best Shark vacuums, the best bagged vacuums, and the best vacuums for carpet.

The best suction vacuum we've tested is the Miele Complete C3. This premium vacuum has a powerful 1200W motor, allowing it to deal with stubborn messes or debris stuck in cracks. It also delivers fantastic performance on bare floors and does a great job dealing with debris on low and high-pile carpets. Its seven-level power adjustment function lets you tailor its suction force for everything from window curtains to high-pile carpet with a few button presses. While this variant can be hard to find, the Complete C3 HomeCare model comes with many of the same attachments and accessories. Unfortunately, this vacuum's hose is somewhat short, making it hard to clear debris from some hard-to-reach areas.

If you're looking for a canister vacuum with strong suction power that incurs lower recurring costs, you could also look at the SEBO Airbelt D4. It uses larger dirtbags and filters that are expected to last for years without having to be replaced. It also has a longer power cord that gives it an operating range of roughly 50 feet, so you can easily clean larger areas without swapping outlets. However, it is bulkier and heavier than the C3, making it harder to maneuver.

The best upper mid-range vacuum with good suction we've tested is the Dyson Ball Animal 3. This bagless vacuum isn't nearly as sturdily built as the Miele Complete C3, with a mainly plastic body that creaks and flexes while in use. However, if you're shopping for strong suction performance at a lower price point, it's worth considering. Its powerful motor enables it to easily clear debris from a wide range of surface types, ranging from bare floors to low and high-pile carpet. Its floorhead features three levels of surface adjustment, enabling you to quickly adapt from hardwood floors to dense high-pile rugs. The floorhead also features a set of built-in plastic vanes that are remarkably effective in reducing hair wraps.

This vacuum's bagless design incurs minimal recurring costs and is pretty easy to maintain, though shaking out its dustbin isn't as hygienic a process as taking out the Miele's self-sealing dirtbags. It's on the bulky side, even for an upright vacuum, and can be a bit of a hassle to take out of your closet and deploy. Its strong suction power can also make it a little hard to push and pull around on shag carpeting.

The Miele Classic C1 is a great option if you want a mid-priced vacuum with strong suction power. It uses the same 1200W suction motor as the pricier Miele Complete C3, resulting in a similarly strong performance. However, the lower sticker price reflects in the lack of an onboard tool storage compartment and slightly less robust build quality. It offers six levels of power adjustment, enabling you to quickly adapt to a wide variety of surface types. Unlike the Dyson Ball Animal 3, the Pure Suction of the C1 only comes with a straight suction floorhead and is best suited for bare floors and low-pile carpeting. You'll want to upgrade to a pricier variant like the C1 Cat & Dog if you have denser carpeting and require a floorhead with a motorized brushroll.

This vacuum is also exceptionally easy to maintain. Unfortunately, it uses 2.5L dirtbags that are on the smaller side of things, and you'll have to swap in a new one periodically, along with its pre and post-motor filters. The similarly powerful Airsign HEPA Vacuum is a great alternative if you're worried about that, as you can buy it with a subscription package that ships a four-pack of dustbags and a new filter to your door every six months. Its default dirtbags are biodegradable, which is great if you're worried about the environmental impact of throwing them out. It feels less well-built than the Miele and has a shorter overall range.

The best vacuum with good suction we've tested in the budget category is the Eureka Mighty Mite. This compact canister vacuum feels somewhat cheaply built and lacks many of the quality-of-life features found on pricier models like the Miele Classic C1, like a self-winding power cord and allergen-sealed body. However, if you're looking for good suction performance at a bargain price, it's hard to beat. Its potent 12-amp motor allows it to easily clear solid debris from bare floors and perform well on low and high-pile carpet, even with a basic straight-suction floorhead. Its compact, lightweight construction also allows you to pick it up and carry it wherever you may need it, though its power cord is short, so you'll probably need to swap outlets when vacuuming faraway rooms.

It has a very simple design, making it easy to swap in a new filter and replace its dirtbag whenever it gets full. Still, if you don't want to worry about swapping out dirtbags and don't mind a less hygienic means of debris disposal, the Eureka Whirlwind Bagless Canister could be worth a look. It delivers similar overall cleaning performance to the Mighty Mite but doesn't use disposable dirtbags, resulting in minimal recurring costs.

The best cordless vacuum with good suction that we've tested is the Dyson V15 Detect. With 230W of suction power, this vacuum is one of the most potent cordless models on the market, though it does fall short of higher-end corded models like the Miele Complete C3 and Dyson Ball Animal 3 in this regard. Still, it does a great job of dealing with debris on different surface types. Using it in its 'Auto' mode lets it automatically adjust its suction power to different surfaces. Unfortunately, no matter what power setting you use it in, its strong suction force can still cause it to drag around some lighter rugs. An onboard particle sensor counts and measures the size of debris being sucked into the vacuum, which is handy for keeping track of allergens in your home.

If you're looking for a stick vacuum that costs a little less and still exerts a fairly strong suction force, the Samsung Jet 90 Complete is worth considering. It doesn't have the Dyson vacuum's automatic power adjustment capability or onboard dirt sensor. However, its motor outputs 200 air watts of power, enabling it to perform very well across a wide range of surfaces.

            Notable Mentions

            • Dyson Outsize: The Dyson Outsize is a cordless stick/handheld vacuum with a larger dustbin than the Dyson V15 Detect. While it delivers similar suction performance, it isn't as effective in clearing debris on most surface types. See our review
            • Milwaukee M18 FUEL 3-in-1 Backpack Vacuum Kit: The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 3-in-1 Backpack Vacuum Kit is a cordless vacuum intended for light-duty workshop cleaning tasks. It's very powerful but somewhat bulky and awkward for household cleaning compared to similarly-priced canister models like the Miele Classic C1. In addition, unlike most other shop-oriented vacuums, you can't use it to clear liquids. See our review
            • RYOBI 18V One+ 3 Gal. Project Wet/Dry: The RYOBI 18V One+ 3 Gal. Project Wet/Dry is a semi-handheld shop vacuum that delivers exceptional debris pickup performance on a wide range of surfaces, though it isn't intended for cleaning even moderately-sized areas compared to a more household-oriented model like the Eureka Mighty Mite. See our review
            • Wyze Cordless Vacuum: The Wyze Cordless Vacuum is a budget-friendly stick vacuum with a relatively powerful suction motor, though it can't compete with the Dyson V15 Detect in terms of deep-cleaning performance. See our review
            • Samsung Bespoke Jet: The Samsung Bespoke Jet is a premium cordless stick vacuum with a similarly powerful suction motor to the Dyson V15 Detect, but its dual brushroll floorhead disperses this suction power over a wider area, resulting in slightly worse deep-cleaning performance. See our review
            • NaceCare HVR 200 Henry: The NaceCare HVR 200 Henry is a mid-range canister vacuum that's easy to maintain, remarkably sturdy, and delivers pretty good overall performance on a wide assortment of surfaces. However, its suction motor isn't quite as potent as the Miele Classic C1. See our review

Best Powerful Vacuum Cleaner with strong suction power

In short: the power of a vacuum cleaner is expressed in suction power. In all my reviews I measure the suction power of vacuum cleaners in kilopascals (kPa). This allows me to compare vacuum cleaners on strength and to list the most powerful vacuum cleaners.

Most powerful vacuum cleaners I’ve reviewed:
Best Powerful Canister Vacuum Cleaner: Miele Boost CX1 (21 kPa)
Best Power Stick Vacuum Cleaner: Dyson V15 (10 kPa)
Best Powerful Handheld Vacuum: Turbotronic Lux400 (8 kPa)

It is perhaps one of the most important factors of a vacuum cleaner: the suction power. Good suction power ensures that you can thoroughly clean the floor and that there is an enormous dust absorption. People often think ‘the more watts, the more powerful the vacuum cleaner’, while this actually says nothing about the suction power of a vacuum cleaner.

In my reviews I research the power of vacuum cleaners. I do research into both the suction power and the air speed to get a good idea of how strong a vacuum cleaner actually is.

Most powerful vacuum cleaners at the moment

At Vacuumtester. com we test the power of different types of vacuum cleaners. From compact handheld vacuums to powerful stick vacuums with a turbo mode. In every review we do a test of strength. We do this in the same way in every review (with a custom-made vacuum tester) to be able to compare the vacuum cleaners with each other.

            Best Powerful Bagless Vacuum Cleaner

The Miele Boost CX1 Parquet is the most powerful bagged vacuum cleaner at the moment. The vacuum cleaner has a suction power of no less than 21 kPa, which is very strong compared to other vacuum cleaners.

            Miele CX1 Boost

A bagless vacuum cleaner with an enormous suction power of 21 kPa.

🇺🇸 In the United States available at Amazon.com and Ebay

The Miele CX1 Parquet has an increcible suction power of 21 kPa © Vacuumtester

In terms of air speed, this Miele vacuum cleaner also scores well: in my review I measured an AirFlow of 41.8 meters per second. In addition, you also enjoy the following benefits with this vacuum cleaner:

            • The vacuum cleaner is super manoeuvrable thanks to the TrackDrive technology
            • The dust container is super easy to empty
            • He looks so beautiful

The vacuum cleaner, on the other hand, has a very short cord of only 7 meters. It is also not a silent vacuum cleaner: with a noise level of 70.8 decibels, it is quite noisy. Curious about more features of this vacuum cleaner? Watch the video below, where I extensively review the Boost CX1 Parquet.

            Best powerful stick vacuum cleaner

At the moment, the Dyson V15 scores best in terms of suction power: in my Dyson V15 Detect review, this stick vacuum came out with a suction power of 10 kPa, which is a lot higher than other stick vacuums.

            Dyson V15 Detect

Also equipped with a green laser, which makes dirt more visible.

🇺🇸 In the United States available at Amazon.com and Dyson.com

            © Vacuumtester

The Dyson V15 Detect also has a turbo mode: with this there is even a suction power of 27 kPa, but in this mode you can only use the stick vacuum for a few minutes. The Dyson V15 has the following benefits:

            • Fluffy brush with laser, making dirt more visible
            • Piezo sensor adjusts suction power automatically

The vacuum cleaner does have a high price: you pay for the extra options and accessories.

            Best Powerful Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

Prefer a compact handheld vacuum cleaner? Then go for the Turbotronic LUX400: a hand-held vacuum cleaner with a suction power of 8 kPa. This means that the suction power is even close to that of a stick vacuum.

            Turbotronic Lux400

With this powerful hand vacuum cleaner you can not only vacuum dry, but also wet dirt.

🇺🇸 In the United States available at Amazon.com and Ebay

            © Vacuumtester

The Turbotronic LUX400 is not only very powerful: it is also a lightweight vacuum (it weighs only 0.5 kilograms). You also enjoy the following extras:

            • Comes with many accessories, including a flexible hose
            • Has a respectable battery life of 19 minutes

Keep in mind that this vacuum cleaner makes a lot of noise. In addition, it is of course a hand vacuum cleaner: you will have to empty it quickly and the battery lasts much shorter than cordless stick vacuums.

How I research the power of a vacuum cleaner

In all my vacuum cleaner reviews, the suction power is perhaps one of the most important research factors. I usually can’t wait to put my custom vacuum tester on the vacuum cleaner when a new model comes out.

With my vacuum tester I can measure the suction power of the vacuum cleaner in Kilopascals. I can then compare the vacuum cleaners with the number of kilopascals, to find out which vacuum cleaner is the strongest.

In all my vacuum cleaner reviews, the suction power is perhaps one of the most important research factors.

To ensure a fair suction power measurement, I always adhere to the following research rules:

            • The vacuum cleaner is emptied beforehand
            • The vacuum cleaner is checked for possible air leaks
            • The power of the vacuum cleaner is set to maximum*

            * Stick vacuums and handheld vacuums sometimes also have a turbo mode. We are this mode as an ‘extra option’. Because you can only vacuum for a few minutes with a turbo mode, we only compare the suction power in normal mode.

The maximum suction power of vacuum cleaners I’ve tested

Curious how all vacuum cleaners I’ve tested score in terms of suction power? View all suction power measurements in a row in the overview below.

Why a research into the most powerful vacuum cleaner?

The more power a vacuum cleaner, the more power it has. However? No, unfortunately this is not the case. In the past people often looked at the power (in the number of Watts), but nowadays this does not say much about the suction power.

In the past people often looked at the power (in the number of Watts), but nowadays this does not say much about the suction power.

Reason enough for me to do good research into this, so that I can help you choose the most powerful vacuum cleaner. But, why is a powerful vacuum cleaner so important? A powerful vacuum cleaner is interesting for the following situations:

            • When you often have carpet or rugs in the house
            • If you are prone to an allergic reaction*
            • When you have pets and have a lot to do with pet hair

            * In addition to good suction power, it is also important to pay attention to the filters of the vacuum cleaner. A high suction power says nothing about the filters of a vacuum cleaner. Read more about the HEPA filter and why it is so important here.

            Various powerful vacuum cleaners

The type of vacuum cleaner often determines the suction power. For example, a hand vacuum cleaner is in many cases much less powerful than a canister vacuum cleaner. In general, a cordless vacuum cleaner is much less powerful than a corded vacuum cleaner.

There is also a big difference between a bagless vs bagged vacuum. The suction power of a vacuum cleaner with a bag can decrease sharply when the dust bag becomes full. This is not the case with a bagless vacuum cleaner.

Maintenance of great impact on vacuum cleaner power

The power of a vacuum cleaner often also depends on how you maintain your vacuum cleaner. A vacuum cleaner that no longer sucks or whose suction power has decreased significantly is often the result of a blockage. It can also be a dirty or outdated filter: a HEPA filter replacement can already help to improve the suction power.

In summary: the higher the suction power, the easier it is to vacuum dirt. In order to discover the most powerful vacuum cleaner, I measure all my reviews the suction power in kilopascals.

Most powerful vacuum cleaners I’ve reviewed:
Best Powerful Canister Vacuum Cleaner: Miele Boost CX1 (21 kPa)
Best Power Stick Vacuum Cleaner: Dyson V15 (10 kPa)
Best Powerful Handheld Vacuum: Turbotronic Lux400 (8 kPa)

Robot vacuum cleaner and black/dark carpet - What if the robot vacuum cleaner avoids dark carpet?

It may happen that a black or very dark carpet is avoided by your robot vacuum cleaner .

Fall sensors classify the black carpet as a cliff and ensure that the robot cleaner does not drive over it.

This is annoying, of course, because it leaves the carpet uncleaned.

But we have a simple solution to the problem.

You can cover the fall sensors .

They are located on the underside of the robot cleaner. Just cover the sensors with non-transparent adhesive tape.

This should finally solve the problem with dark/black carpets.

Attention : this procedure is only suitable for an apartment/house without "actual" breaks. If your house has a staircase, gallery, etc., then under no circumstances should you mask the sensors. After all, you don't want to see your trusty au pair fall down the stairs...

Robot Vacuum Cleaner and Carpet Fringe

Carpet Fringe presents your robot vacuum cleaner with a special challenge.

This is because the carpet the fringe may wrap around the main brush of the robot cleaner when it passes over carpet, causing the brush to jam.

This would complete the cleaning for now. You will have to rush to the aid of your home helper and free him.

Only then can cleaning be continued.

But this need not be the case.

A simple solution for is this: simply fold the carpet fringe under the carpet before cleaning . Thus, you are 100% insured.

Another solution is the special suction nozzles.

Robotic vacuum cleaners with these attachments are especially recommended for carpets with long fringes.

For example, the Deebot OZMO 950 straight nozzle ensures that the robot cleaner does not exactly get stuck on the fringe of the carpet.

Since there is no appropriate cleaning brush, the long carpet fringe cannot wrap around it.

Another robot vacuum that is especially suitable for fringed carpets is the iRobot Roomba i7+.

There are two main rubber brushes.

Since the main brushes rotate in opposite directions during cleaning, the long fringes of carpets will hardly wrap around the brushes.

If none of the above solutions help and the robot cleaner still regularly gets stuck on the fringes of the carpet, you can also install restricted area around fringed carpet . This can be set up very easily using the mobile app.

The robot cleaner then leaves the fringed carpet completely out of the cleaning process.

Robot Cleaner and High or Long Pile Carpet

High or Long Pile Carpet is a big problem for Robot Vacuum Cleaner.

            Height climbing

High pile carpet can be quite high.

Your Robot Vacuum Cleaner must therefore have the ability to ride on high pile carpet.

In our review of "Robot Vacuums for High Thresholds" we have listed the models that are best at overcoming obstacles. If the edges of your long pile carpet are high enough, we advise you to check out our review.

            Good suction power

The High Pile Carpet Cleaner must have good suction in order to be able to remove stuck dirt.

            Carpets with extremely high pile

Extremely high pile carpets are a big challenge for robots (as well as any type of vacuum cleaner).

If the carpet fibers are extremely long, it is very difficult for any vacuum cleaner to achieve a satisfactory cleaning result.

Moreover, it may happen that long carpet fibers wrap around the main brush of the robot cleaner. This causes the brush to block and for now the cleaning process will be completed.

Only after you rush to the aid of the little au pair and free him, the cleaning can continue.

Very high pile carpets can't get through even the best robot vacuum.

Therefore, we recommend that you mark on the map in Appendix the restricted area around the high pile carpet.

Then the carpet will be left out of the automatic cleaning area and the rest of your apartment can be cleaned without any problems.

Robot Vacuum and Carpet: What do I need to know before buying?

Carpet and robot vacuum: things to consider in order to avoid disappointment when making a purchase decision:

            • Premise: the robot vacuum must also do a good job outside of the carpet
            • Good suction power on carpets
            • Automatic carpet detection must be available
            • PreEcovacs Deebot OZMO T8 AIVI (Main) (19) - Carpet
obstacles of your robotic carpet cleaner should be sufficient to allow it to move over them.
            • The "Restricted area detection" function must be available in the mobile phone app App.
            • Value for money

We will discuss the individual items in more detail below.

Your robot carpet cleaner must be an all-round good robot

In addition to the fact that the robot vacuum cleaner must clean the carpet properly, it must also work well and in other areas.

Essentially, the categories that matter are: good cleaning results on hard floors, versatile App mobile app, quiet operation, powerful battery and efficient navigation.

All of our "Best Robotic Carpet Vacuum Cleaners" are all-purpose good models which convinced us in our extensive tests .

In addition to this, our best selection of robotic vacuum cleaners is also excellent for cleaning carpets.

Good suction power on carpets (high suction power)

Laminate is not a major problem for most modern robot vacuum cleaners in terms of cleaning performance and suction power.

Carpets usually look a little different.

Dirt sinks into the carpet quite quickly, settles in the carpet fibers and is difficult to remove with a robot vacuum cleaner.

To achieve good cleaning results on carpets, the robot vacuum cleaner must have strong suction power.

In our experience, a robot vacuum cleaner must have a suction power of at least 1500 Pa. (better than 2000 Pa.)

However, suction alone is not enough.

The well thought out and high quality cleaning brush is also a must.

In this way, dirt can be better separated and removed from the carpet fibers.

The results of our suction tests on short and long pile carpets give you a good overview of how robot vacuums work on carpets.

Automatic carpet detection (switching the suction power)

Modern robotic vacuum cleaners , as a rule, have several stages of cleaning mode.

As a rule, the robot vacuum cleaner cleans your house with medium suction power. This is usually more than enough for hard floors.

Carpets, on the other hand, should be cleaned with maximum suction.

Automatic carpet detection ("carpet turbo") ensures that your little home helper automatically switches to maximum suction when moving across carpet . As soon as the robot cleaner leaves the carpet again, the suction power is automatically reduced to the previously set suction mode.

Your robotic carpet cleaner must be capable of climbing obstacles

Robotic vacuum cleaner must have the appropriate climbing function .

The " Best Carpet Robots" listed here can climb 1.9 - 2cm slopes without any problems.

Therefore, ordinary carpet is not a significant problem for the little au pair.

Restricted areas shall be easily marked in the Appendix APP

If your robot vacuum just can't handle long pile carpet and keeps getting stuck , you don't have to do without a practical housekeeper.

The solution to the problem looks relatively simple.

We recommend creating a restricted area around the carpet.

In this way, during the daily cleaning of the floor, the carpet remains untouched and the robot cleaner cannot get stuck.

But the rest of your apartment will be securely cleaned.

So you don't have to do without the reliable and reliable robot vacuum service.

Waste bin - The bigger the better

Hard to avoid - carpets magically attract dirt.

That's why it's even more important that your little household helper clean the carpet almost daily. This, in turn, means that the mobile dust collector quickly fills up with dirt.

Our simple recommendation: when buying, make sure that the dust container is quite large . This saves you the hassle of emptying the container frequently.

            Value for money

Finally, plays an important role price and quality .

The days when good robotic vacuum cleaners cost more than 1000 euros are long gone.

Now you get very high quality for much less money.

In our selection of the top 3 robotic carpet cleaners, we tried to pick models for every budget.

The winner of our test (Deebot OZMO 950) is an absolute hit in terms of price-quality ratio. Here you will get a great model at the best price.

Two other robot vacuums, the DeebotOZMO T8 AIVI (our second place) and the iRobot Roomba i7+ (third place), also work very well on carpets. But these models also have special luxury features, which in turn leads to a higher purchase price.

            • Are Medion robot vacuums suitable for use on carpets?

Medion robot vacuum cleaners are generally classified as "budget robot vacuum cleaners". Price tends to be low, resulting in performance trade-offs.

Medion robot vacuums work well on hard floors.

On carpets, however, particularly strong suction power is required. This is where Medion robot vacuums should catch up.

Our selection of robot vacuum cleaners shows much better performance on carpets, so we would rather recommend choosing one of the best "robot carpet cleaners".

            • How suitable is the Dyson robot vacuum for use on carpets?

Dyson has now released the Dyson 360 Heurist, the second generation of its robot vacuums.

During the test, the robot vacuum cleaner was able to attract attention with its positive aspects.

In particular, the very high suction power (a real vacuum cleaner motor is integrated) is an interesting aspect, especially for use on carpets.

Unfortunately, the Dyson 360 Heurist found numerous serious flaws in our test for other parameters. Therefore, we cannot recommend a robot vacuum cleaner for purchase (even for use on carpets).

            • Do robot vacuums have problems with pet hair on carpets?

              Animal hair is very light.

Therefore, it cannot "sink" into the carpet, like sand, for example.

Therefore, robotic vacuum cleaners (with appropriate suction power) have little difficulty in vacuuming pet hair from carpets.

If you live in a house with multiple floors, then there are some details you should know before buying a robot vacuum cleaner.

The following criteria are important here:

            • Multiple card storage

            • Extensive app functions APP

            • It should be a versatile excellent robot vacuum cleaner.

            • Drop sensors must be

            • Good navigation

            • Weight robot vacuum cleaner

            • Value for money

We will discuss individual criteria in more detail in the following paragraphs.

Basic requirement #1: Your robot vacuum must store multiple maps for multiple floors.

If you want to use the robot vacuum cleaner in a house with several floors, the device must be able to create and store multiple (Multi Floor Mapping) maps.

As soon as you place the robot on the second floor, it recognizes this and automatically pulls out the correct card.

This way your little home helper won't have to reorient himself every time he needs to vacuum the second floor. Cleaning the second floor is also much faster.

Another advantage: you always have a detailed map of the second floor, which you can edit according to your wishes (draw restricted areas, combine or separate rooms if necessary, etc.).

Please refer to the following item "Advanced Functions of the App Application" for which functions and settings are important.

So you can personalize your daily floor cleaning according to your wishes.

At the moment the key question is, of course, how many floors does your house have? Robotic vacuum cleaners differ in how many cards can be stored . Range: 2 to 10 cards .

Essential Requirement #2: Extensive App Functions

Smart Robot Vacuum Cleaner Intelligence is in App 9 Mobile App0018 .

It should have many useful features ready to help you when cleaning multiple floors.

            "Required functions:

            • Determination of restricted areas (exclude areas from cleaning - eg children's play area).

            • Room division or room combination

            • Definition of areas without wet cleaning (e.g. for carpets)

            • Programming function (you can set the cleaning start time).

            • Definition of the procedure for cleaning rooms

            • Cleaning one room (send the vacuum cleaner to a certain room only).

            • Spot cleaning (Let the vacuum cleaner clean a specific area)

            • Determining suction power and water flow individually for each room (heavily polluted rooms can be cleaned with a higher suction power / water flow than less polluted ones).

The features listed above on offer you much more flexibility and make cleaning multiple floors much easier.

Basic Requirement #3: Your multi-floor robotic vacuum cleaner must be an all-around good device.

In addition to the fact that robot vacuum cleaner is suitable for use in a house/apartment with several floors, it must also have high performance in all other areas.

All the models of our best multi-storey vacuum cleaners presented here have been able to convince us in our extensive tests.

In addition, these robot vacuum cleaners are particularly suitable for use in houses/apartments with several floors.

            Must have fall sensors

If you have a house/apartment with 2 (or more) floors, there are usually "real chasms".

Therefore, your robotic vacuum cleaner must be equipped with drop sensors. They are located on the underside of the robot vacuum cleaner and are now the absolute standard for every modern model.

These sensors detect gaps in a timely manner. Your robot vacuum cleaner stops abruptly and looks for another way.

In this way, you get rid of the drama - for example, from falling down the stairs of your faithful au pair.

Important Tip: Always check that the drop sensors are clean. It is recommended to clean the sensors regularly with a cloth.

            Navigation and driving

If you want to use your robot vacuum cleaner on different floors, it will have to clean a lot of rooms, the area of which will be much more than 100 m².

Therefore, we recommend paying special attention to navigation.

Basic condition for good navigation: the robot cleaner must go around your house without gaps.

In addition, we advise you to pay attention to navigation speed. After all, you don't want your robot cleaner to be busy cleaning for hours on end.

All of our "best robot vacuums for multiple floors" navigation is seamless and fast enough. For our 80m² test apartment, the vacuum cleaner took ~38 - 50 minutes.

Charging station and battery: Good battery life is a must

Your multi-storey robot vacuum cleaner should have a long-lasting and powerful battery.

Ideally, a robot vacuum should be able to clean several floors without having to go to a charging station to recharge.

Because she might be on another floor.

Good is battery life 90 minutes or more . In this way, rooms ranging from 150 to 250 m² can be cleaned.

In addition, it is recommended that your robot cleaner has the function " Recharge and restore" for several floors.

If the battery runs out in the middle of a cleaning session, the little home helper returns to the charging station on its own. As soon as the battery is recharged, the robot cleaner continues the cleaning cycle exactly where it left off.

A great feature that will save you some time.

Practical tip : If you do not want to have one charging station per floor, we advise you to start cleaning the floor where there is no charging station. Only after that you can move the robot vacuum cleaner to the "first floor" (where the charging station is located) and clean it there.

Advantage: If the battery is about to run out after this, the robot cleaner will automatically return to the charging station and charge the battery.

Thanks to the "Recharge & Resume" function, after the battery is fully charged, the robot cleaner will continue cleaning in the previously interrupted place.

            Mopping function

Do you want the floors in your house to be not only vacuumed, but also washed?

robotic vacuum cleaners do both ( vacuum and wipe ) in one go.

At present, the wipe function cannot completely replace manual wet cleaning.

Nevertheless, your floors are freed from the last dust and dirt residues. Your home looks even fresher and cleaner.

If you want to know more about hybrid models, then check out our in-depth review: "Best Cleaning Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review". Here you will find everything you need to know about this topic, as well as a few tips and tricks to improve performance

There is a lot of dirt on the whole floor.....

We recommend rinsing thoroughly wipe under running water after each floor.

Or even simpler: have a separate napkin for each floor. On Amazon, matching reusable wipes are available for little money.

Individual setting of suction power (and water flow rate) per floor or room

Different floors may have different levels of soiling .

            Or:

Different floors can have different types of flooring.

One floor can have highly sensitive laminate floors while the basement has tiles.

Your robotic vacuum cleaner needs to be able to handle all types of flooring optimally.

For this, modern robotic vacuum cleaners have a great function:

You can adjust the suction power and water flow rate using the app App.

This means that, for example, a basement with an insensitive tile floor can be cleaned at the highest suction/high flow rate, and a living area (sensitive laminate floor) can be cleaned at an average suction/flow rate.

This gives you even more flexibility in your daily floor cleaning.

            Robot Vacuum Cleaner Weight

The weight of the Robot Vacuum Cleaner also plays a role.

Because if your home helper has to clean several floors, he needs to be carried back and forth between floors.

As a rule, robots weigh about 4-5 kg.

The lighter the device, the better.

Some models (eg iRobot Rooomba i7+) also have a practical carrying handle.

This makes it particularly easy to transport the vacuum cleaner between floors.

One subtle but very useful feature!

            Budget and value for money

As a rule, you only have a limited budget at your disposal.

Therefore, your new home assistant must fit within the budget and at the same time must have many useful features at a reasonable price .

Whether the best value for money (Roborock S5 Max), or the luxury model (iRobot Roomba i7+) - in our "Best Multi Floor Robot Vacuum Cleaner" roundup, you'll find the right model for every budget.
