LIGHT

Your Money Tree prefers indirect bright light, and can adjust to lower light. Too much direct light will scorch the leaves, but too little light will cause slow growth and yellow leaves. WATER

Water your Money Tree when the soil volume is 50-75% dry. Always check the soil moisture before watering. Water thoroughly until you see water flow out of the drainage hole and discard any excess water in the saucer.

HUMIDITY

Your Money Tree does well in average household humidity. However, if the air is very dry it will appreciate the occasional humidity boost.

TEMPERATURE

Your Money Tree is most comfortable in temperatures between 65-80°F.

FOOD

Feed once a month in the spring and summer when it is producing new leaves with a general-purpose fertilizer at half strength. Always make sure the soil is damp before applying any fertilizer.

TOXICITY

Money Trees are considered non-toxic and pet friendly.

ADDITIONAL CARE

Money Tree Care - How to Grow a Lucky Money Tree Plant

Money trees are one of the easiest houseplants you can grow—so they're perfect for new plant parents or people who have low levels of light in their homes. They're handsome plants, too, with a strong upright form, glossy leaves, and an attractive braided stem. In their native environment of Central and South America, these trees grow 60 feet tall. But indoors, they'll typically top out around 6 feet tall.

Like the easy-care snake plant and philodendron plant, these also are tough houseplants. As long as you give them the right conditions, they'll thrive. They're also said to bring good luck and prosperity. And who doesn't need more of that in their lives?

Whether or not you believe in the legend of good luck, here's what else you need to know about how to care for a money tree.

Why are Money Trees Considered Lucky?

Money trees, or pachira aquatica, are considered a symbol of luck and prosperity, but they haven't been for all that long. The braided money tree as we know it was actually first cultivated by a truck driver in Taiwan and quickly became popular in Asia by Feng Shui practitioners.

Basic Money Tree Plant Care

Sunlight:

Money trees like bright, indirect light, which means you'll need a sunny east, west, or south-facing window. But be careful about giving them direct sunlight, which can scorch their leaves, especially during the hottest months of the year. That's because the small money trees we grow indoors are juvenile plants, which would be shaded by taller trees in the forest. Turn the plant periodically to make sure it grows evenly. Water:
