Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Learn about our bathroom vanities

Morning routines and evening routines. The Sunday spa treatment. The close morning shave. The relaxed evening shower before bedtime. And through it all, your bathroom vanity will be a reliable companion – offering great convenience and marvelous style.

Bathroom vanity units with great storage

Get your clutter off your floor, out of your open shelves and down from your hanging baskets to where they won’t make your bathroom a mess. With a good washstand, you can get rid of a lot of clutter while keeping essentials close at hand. Hide everything from hairbrushes and hair dryers, to lotions and toilet paper, while still having them neatly store where you need them.

A vanity unit is also one of the best investments you can make for your bathroom. By placing a vanity under your sink, you get great storage without stealing valuable floor space. On top of that, it's a nice way to cover pipes that often tend to look a tad bit dull.

A vanity unit for every style and space

We have a large selection of units in several different styles and sizes. From 15 inches wide for the small bathroom, to over 40 inches for the larger ones. High-gloss and anthracite for those who want a little flair, or simply white and bamboo if you’re going for a calmer or more rustic atmosphere. For the classic and timeless look, there is of course white porcelain.

Oh, and while you’re at it - make sure to match your unit with various bathroom accessories for a complete look!

Basins and countertops that make your bathroom pop

A single basin vanity unit is a good fit for the smaller bathroom, where you might be lacking some space. You get extra storage for all your essentials, while the rest of the room can be used as before.

A double wash basin stand, on the other hand, is perfect if you have the space. Especially if you share the bathroom with others. It’s great to have during the morning rush hour when everyone has to brush their teeth and get ready at the same time.

Should you mount your unit on the floor or to the wall?

You can’t go wrong with a classic, floor mounted washstand. It fits together seamlessly with your basin and creates a solid, integrated look. There are many different solutions with both doors and drawers, and it allows for maximum storage beneath the basin.

A wall mounted unit, on the other hand, creates the illusion of extra space as the floor is left visible and clear. So, if you’re looking to make your bathroom feel bigger, this is the one for you. With a wall mounted option, you can also easily choose the placement yourself, and adapt it to the height that is most comfortable for you.

How to choose a bathroom vanity

Perhaps the vanity is not the most important and functional part of the bathroom, but often incorrectly chosen, this piece of furniture can ruin the most stylish design in an instant. In addition, the correct choice of a table is also important for the correct ergonomics of the bathroom.

The vanity table may not be the most important and functional part of the bathroom, but often incorrectly chosen, this piece of furniture can ruin the most stylish bathroom interior design in an instant. In addition, the correct choice of the table is also important for the correct ergonomics of the bathroom: the most common mistakes in this case are the unfortunate dimensions of the table top, which leads to difficult movement around the room, the use of unsuitable materials, as well as insufficient storage space. All these seemingly small mistakes can lead to significant inconvenience, but the bathroom is a place for relaxation and exceptionally pleasant emotions. So what should you consider when choosing a vanity for your bathroom?

We have collected all the interior planning tips and selected the most relevant ones for you.

Location

Easy access.
Select an area in the bathroom that is far enough away from the main areas of active movement to place the vanity. This area should also be located at a sufficient distance from the doors so as not to interfere with their opening. Do not forget to also think about the moment of cleaning: whether it will become difficult due to the location of the table. If the table has outward-opening doors, consider in advance whether they will become a source of discomfort when open.

Among other things, also take into account all the details that will be located nearby according to the project, for example, windows or mirrors, and especially cabinets and shelves - all this should be easily accessible and convenient to use.

Water supply system.
If the correct installation of your new vanity requires significant changes to your bathroom's plumbing system, weigh the pros and cons before making a decision, as such work is expensive and can seriously increase your renovation budget. Even if the question is only to make a hanging wall table instead of the usual floor table, it will be necessary to completely change the location of the pipes and the drainage system. In any case, if the sink is located relatively far from the rest of the plumbing, this will require additional, and very expensive, work.

Materials

Due to the fact that the dressing table is located in a zone of high humidity, the materials from which it will be made play an important role: they must be moisture resistant and durable. If you have opted for wood veneer, laminated surfaces, make sure that they are treated with special compounds to protect against external influences, because even the most durable varnish is not one hundred percent wood protection. But we do not recommend choosing MDF products, they are very susceptible to water.

Special attention should be paid to the selection of material for finishing the surface of the table, many designers agree that it is much easier to first find the perfect “top coating”, and only then choose the cabinet itself to match it, rather than vice versa.

Organization of storage

Think in advance what will actually need to be stored in the dressing table in the bathroom, analyze, perhaps what is stored there now is not so necessary in the bathroom. In addition, it is worth dividing items into two categories: what should always be at hand and what can be removed a little further. Another little designer secret is to plan for 20 percent more storage space than originally needed. Almost always, this extra space turns out to be very, very useful later on.

Placing hanging cabinets under the table is a very practical idea, because often the area above the sink is not used functionally. Meanwhile, such elegant interior items can provide enough space to store a lot of necessary details. When choosing cabinets, avoid too massive models, they can spoil the design of the entire bathroom.

Another great idea is to place several drawers under the countertop at once, they absolutely do not use the usable space of the room, but, nevertheless, they can completely replace all other storage systems.

Bathroom vanity size

Scale.
Remember that the size of the table should not be random, it should always be related to the dimensions of the bathroom as a whole. Never try to fit a huge table in a tiny bathroom, even if your goal is maximum storage space, such an idea will bring nothing but discomfort. Designers advise starting with an object 53 cm deep and 60 cm wide, and only if the size of the bathroom allows, increase the size of the table.

Height.
This factor is very, very important. To choose the right table height, you must first consider who will use it. Usually, a height of 80 cm is optimal, but some designers still advise to "try on" the table a little higher - 86-88 cm. vanity tables, designers are unanimous in their opinion that there can be nothing better than the development of a table on an individual order, taking into account the characteristics of your bathroom and all the nuances of style and taste. Contrary to popular belief, such a piece of furniture will not differ much in price from the finished product, but the difference in comfort and quality is very noticeable. This advice will be especially relevant for left-handers, because often standard furniture is made for right-handed people and is not very convenient for others.

When designing your own side table, please note that the sink does not have to be exactly in the middle of the countertop, if you make it slightly moved to the side, you can use most of the table very functionally. By the way, the size of the sink itself is also important: models of larger area and depth allow the surrounding areas to remain cleaner and drier.

The space inside the table is usually filled, but few people think that the inside of the doors can also be very well used, for example, to store hair dryers and other electrical appliances used in the bathroom.

Bathroom Furniture Options

When you're renovating a large or small bathroom while still making it function, you need to be aware of the different types of vanity units to get the right bathroom for your space. It can be single sink, double sink or double bathroom.

A large vanity will provide you with a convenient place to not only store items, but also provide a great sink. In fact, many dressing tables are designed with some cool features all around to create some sophisticated looks.

However, in order to have a quality bathroom, you need to be careful what you install. You should choose a quality traditional vanity, a more modern vanity, or a freestanding vanity that is not only attractive in its design but also fully functional. Whichever vanity style you prefer, it should be made from the right materials to keep it tall at all times.

Vanity can be especially made with a sophisticated or modern look depending on what you prefer. Also, the price of your vanity can vary depending on what you choose, but you should be prepared to spend quite a bit on one of these top quality options. We recommend that you buy bathroom cabinets at a good price.

There are several different types of vanities worth exploring for any kind of bathroom you want to create. Let's take a closer look at how each of these vanities can work for your needs.

1. Pedestal Washbasin

The pedestal version is also known as the freestanding washbasin. It doesn't have any specific storage features around its body, but it does have a powerful look that adds a sense of class to any bathroom. It can fit well in any bathroom but can also match any theme you want to create.

You can also customize the pedestal sink with one of the many different types of add-ons to make it stand out. You can add a rack or other material to your sink body, although you will need to check how well such additions might fit your unit before using it.

2. Free standing

The freestanding vanity is designed with some of the same functional features as the pedestal washbasin, but instead offers a square or rectangular look. It can support one or two sinks in place. This is a great option that is available in a variety of designs and finishes. Wood materials tend to be used on most of these vanities, although some ceramic pieces can be found on the top.

3. Wall-mounted / floating

The wall-mounted sink is slightly different in that it is mounted directly to your bathroom wall. This is great for blending into your bathroom and not taking up much space in the process. Also, it should not be connected directly to your floor. However, you must be careful about how you plan to use it. It could be damaged by any jolts or other forms of force added to the surface. Excessive force can cause the vanity to fall off the wall and damage your bathroom if you are not careful enough with it.

4. Ship

The ship's vanity is something that is often found in fancy restaurants and hotel lobbies. This is a vanity that uses a rising bowl around the sink. It protrudes from the main body of the vanity and is connected to its own separate faucet. There is storage space at the bottom, as with everything, but the sink itself will look more elegant. This is a great choice, but it can take up a bit of space depending on what you plan to use with it.

5. Wall-mounted washbasin

Under the washbasin, a washbasin is installed under the washbasin, which is built directly into the washbasin. Modern plumbing from the online store is sold at a good price. It adds a more refined and modern look to the vanity since it offers a flatter look overall. Sometimes a small riser can be found around the outside edges of the pool to create a distinct look all the way through. It's an attractive choice, though the under-mounted design keeps the vanity from having as much storage space as other options. However, this is a compromise for an option that has a good overall design that adds to the sophisticated design.

6. Dressing table

The last option to see is the vanity cabinet. This is designed with a series of sliding doors similar to what you might find in a more traditional kitchen cabinet. It's made with a classic design that is eye-catching and gives off a nice tone when used correctly. It also serves as a suitable base option for your design needs that is not too complex or rough to add to the space.
