Sandra Bullock doesn’t mess around when it comes to real estate. The Oscar-winning actor has spent the past few decades building up an enviable portfolio to match her A-list resume. According to Dirt, the Bird Box star currently owns 17 properties located all throughout the continental U.S., a mix of residential and commercial investments that span everything from a Gothic Victorian home in New Orleans to a sprawling hilltop compound in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Bullock is famously private about her personal life; case in point, it’s not publicly known when she purchased the Wyoming estate or really any details about it at all.

While Bullock has called some of these holdings “home,” there are several places that appear to have been investment properties from the get-go. Some details are not readily available to the public, suggesting that Bullock may have purchased them through an LLC or other investment entities. Here, we’ve rounded up what we do know of her extensive real estate portfolio, recognizing that while this list isn’t exhaustive, it is still quite impressive.

1997

Even though Bullock is undeniably Hollywood royalty, she enjoys spending time away from the spotlight. In April 1997, she dropped $575,000 on a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom home in Austin overlooking Barton Creek. In a May 1998 story for Texas Monthly, the star said she feels “a lightness” when she’s in Texas. “It’s the kind of place where I can feel normal again,” she explained. Bullock listed the 5,633-square-foot home for $2.5 million in 2012, and it sold for $2 million the following year.

Bullock also bought a 5.81-acre lakefront spread on Lake Austin in 1997, reportedly spending “millions” to custom-build a mansion on the grounds. According to Variety, however, she moved out of the pad just days after moving in “over concerns about mold and shoddy workmanship.” She sued the builder and was ultimately awarded $7.8 million in damages in 2004. Since then, the main house has been razed, but now there are several smaller homes, as well as a two-story boathouse, on the property.

2000

When Bullock makes her way to the East Coast, she has a spacious Soho townhouse that she calls home. According to Realtor.com, the actor paid $3.35 million for the 4,144-square-foot single-family home and appears to still own the property, though she frequents it less and less. The townhouse is likely worth much more now.

2001

In early 2001, Bullock dropped $1.49 million on a three-bed, three-bath Hollywood Hills ranch perched above the Sunset Strip, just a short walking distance to the famed Chateau Marmont. She ultimately sold the hilltop retreat for $2.925 million in 2018, which makes sense given that she was primarily using it as a rental property in the last few years of ownership, leasing out the 3,153-square-foot pad for between $15,000 and $18,500 a month.

Later in 2001, Bullock purchased a massive compound on Georgia’s exclusive Tybee Island that comprised a 3,360-square-foot main house and a 2,800-square-foot guest house. When it came time to sell the property, the Blind Side star opted to offload the two structures separately, selling the guest house for $1. 05 million in December 2020 and the main house for $3.125 million one month later.

2005

When Bullock married Jesse James, in 2005, the pair moved into a four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom Sunset Beach home the motorcycle enthusiast had bought for $3.6 million in 2002. Their marriage fell apart five years later, in 2010, at which point Bullock moved out. James sold the 3,600-square-foot beach house for $4.5 million in 2011; it doesn’t appear that Bullock’s name was ever on the deed, though she did call the place home for a while.

Bullock and James went all-in on an 1876 Gothic Victorian mansion in New Orleans in June 2009, paying $2.24 million for the three-story structure. Known as the Koch-Mays House, the Swiss Chalet House, and Freret’s Folly, the 6,615-square-foot pad is resplendent with period details, like intricate ironwork and heavy gilded interiors. There are a total of five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms; Bullock still owns this home.

2011

Following her split from James, Bullock purchased a sprawling $16.19 million Tudor-style mansion in Beverly Hills that she still owns today. Situated on 4.1 acres, the estate features an 8,110-square-foot main house, a screening room, a poolside pavilion, and a detached four-car garage. There are a total of seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

Bullock’s real estate holdings extend to condos too. In February 2014 she purchased a two-bedroom, three-bathroom condo in West Hollywood’s famous Sierra Towers for $3.35 million. Located on the 22nd floor, the unit measures 1,672 square feet, with unparalleled views of the city below. Bullock apparently still owns the unit, though she put it on the rental market in 2017 for $22,000 a month. And fun fact: It previously belonged to Matthew Perry.

2017

The actor was such a fan of her Sierra Towers condo that she decided to purchase another unit in May 2017—this time, a slightly larger 2,101-square-foot home featuring one bedroom and two bathrooms, located on the 20th floor. She paid $5.13 million for it in an off-market deal. It appears that she still owns this unit as well.

2018

In June 2018, Bullock put down $8.5 million for a stunning 3,700-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bathroom home in Malibu overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Originally built in the late 1970s, the abode is a picturesque beachside getaway perched on stilts, with floor-to-ceiling windows and several terraces facing the sea.

2020

Bullock’s second Malibu home is slightly smaller in size, but no less charming. Two years after she purchased her first beach house, she paid $5.3 million for a 1,300-square-foot cottage located in the same gated neighborhood. The mint-green home features two bedrooms and two bathrooms; she listed it as a rental shortly after buying it, though it is unclear if she currently has a tenant living there.

2021

Bullock’s most recent real estate purchase (in March of this year) is located in Beverly Hills, an updated 2,800-square-foot mid-century bungalow that she bought for $2.7 million. The home boasts three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms, with open living spaces and sleek ebony-stained hardwood floors throughout.

Sandra Bullock's childhood

Sandra Annette Bullock was born in Arlington, a Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C.. Although born in the US, the American sweetheart spent much of her childhood in Nuremberg, Germany with her parents and younger sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado. She also lived in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria for a short time as a child.

The Bullock family moved back to the Washington area when Sandra was a teenager. According to Arlington Magazine, the family returned when her father, a voice tutor of German descent, took a job at the Pentagon. They bought this charming white brick house on 26th Street in Woodmont, where her opera singer mother would reportedly entertain guests by belly dancing. It seems that entertainment ran in the family…

Located along a quiet cul-de-sac in popular Woodmont, Sandra's childhood home has since been renovated and expanded. The entry level features a two-storey hallway and plenty of light-filled space throughout, not least in the expansive family room boasting cathedral ceilings and a dining space.

Sandra Bullock's acting debut

According to Arlington Magazine, Bullock attended Washington-Lee High School and was nominated as president of its Pep Club. While some interviews report that Bullock was teased at school, the star thrived at Washington-Lee as a cheerleader and drama student, and was apparently voted “class clown” and “funniest” by her 1982 graduating class. Between 1982 and 1986, the award-winning actress enrolled in East Carolina University in North Carolina, where she studied acting.

Moving to New York

A bold move in 1986 saw Bullock pack her bags and move to New York to pursue a career on the stage. This led to acting parts in television and later, roles in feature films. In 1993, she carried the lead in Demolition Man and Wrestling Ernest Hemingway. However, it wasn't until the following year that she would gain true acclaim…

In 1994, the actress achieved real stardom with her role in the ever-popular hit film, Speed. She has since become an Oscar-winning actor, and one of Hollywood's strongest box office draws. Her latest film, Lost City is out in 2022, starring alongside Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum. Let’s take a walk through the star’s property portfolio, beginning in Texas.

At the height of her success, the megastar chose to plant roots somewhere she could relax in the shadow of her fame. In the Spring of 1997, Bullock purchased a three-bedroom home in Austin, overlooking Barton Creek. She referred to her Texas quarters as a ‘place where I can feel normal again’, according to an interview with Texas Monthly.

The house is spread over 5,633 square feet and hosts two-and-a half-bathrooms, costing the actor $575,000 (£424k). In 2012, Bullock finally listed the property for $2.5 million (£1.9m), selling for $2 million (£1.5m) the following year. During her time in this Austin abode, the actress received the Inspiration of the Year award in 2000, for her support of charities such as PETA, AIDS, Cancer Research and more.

The same year she bought the three-bedroom house in Texas, Bullock also invested in a 5.81-acre spread on Lake Austin. Rumoured to have spent ‘millions’ on a custom-built mansion, the building was apparently riddled with mould and complications due to ‘shoddy workmanship’ according to The Telegraph. After suing the builder, the unlucky star received $7.8 million (£5.8m) in damages in 2004.

Teetering above the Sunset Strip, this three-bed, three-bathroom home hides in the Hollywood Hills. Much like the spotlight-shunning star herself, not much is known about this particular abode, but in early 2001 the 3,153 square foot pad was sold to Sandra for $1.49 million (£1.1m). The house was later sold in 2018 for $2.9 million (£2.1m), after being utilised as a rental property in its last few years in Bullock’s ownership.

The Hollywood home is just a short LA stroll away from the infamous Chateau Marmont – an earthquake-proof hotel. The cluster of rooms, suites, cottages, and bungalows is well-known for housing celebrities as well as New Yorkers needing a place to stay in Hollywood.  Bullock's three-bedroom hilltop home was leased out for anywhere between $15,000 (£11k) and $18,500 (£13.7k) a month via Sotheby's International Realty, according to this Variety article.

The same year Sandra Bullock donated $1 million (£740k) to the American Red Cross after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, the philanthropist purchased this compound on Georgia’s exclusive Tybee Island. The private retreat totals a 3,360-square-foot main house and a 2,800-square-foot guest house.

Nautical décor can be found throughout the main house, not least in the double-height living area. Alongside a dining area, modern kitchen and bedrooms, the main house also boasts a home gym and recreation room with a ping pong table and air hockey sitting across the lower level. The open-plan guest house meanwhile, provides three bedrooms, flanked by wood panelling and exquisite ocean views.

A large veranda, draped with hammocks, is framed by insect-repelling screens and views out over the lengthy swimming pool and beyond. Sandra and her guests must have thoroughly enjoyed a refreshing dip before crossing the boardwalk towards their own sun-kissed private beach. We’re not sure why Bullock would ever want to sell up, but in December 2020 she sold the guest house separately for $1.05 million (£740k) and the main house for $3.1 million (£2.3m) in January 2021.

In 2005, Sandra married TV star and motorcycle enthusiast Jesse James on a ranch just outside of Santa Barbara, California. After celebrating their nuptials with a star-studded ceremony involving Hugh Grant, Keanu Reeves and, reportedly, even some members of the Hells Angels, the pair moved into Jesse James’ Sunset Beach home that he had previously bought for $1.9 million (£1.4m) in 2002.

Inside, the multilevel house occupies 3,600 square feet and features a games room, a wet bar and an office, while a crescent-shaped island in the open-plan area divides the living and dining rooms. The beach house boasts a total of four bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a powder room, celebrity-worthy walk-in closet and a fireplace in the master suite.

Outside await automated tiki torches that frame a pool complete with a water slide and built-in barbecue. However, the light and entertainment-filled abode didn’t do much to alleviate the heaviness of their marriage, which ended five years later. After Bullock moved out in 2010, James sold the beach house for $4.5 million (£3.3m) in 2010 by himself, as Sandra's name reportedly never appeared on the deeds.

Sandra Bullock's New Orleans mansion

While still together in 2009, Bullock and James bought this property in New Orleans for $2.2 million (£1.6m). The 1876 Gothic Victorian mansion is far from the ‘normal’ housing Bullock craved in 1998, with ornate traditional features across its three-storey frame.

Throughout all 6,615 square feet of the property, known as the Swiss Chalet House or Freret’s Folly, intricate period details reign. Heavily gilded interiors and delicate ironwork can be found within a total of five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms.

Before their split, the couple had begun proceedings to adopt a one-week-old baby from New Orleans in 2010. Bullock went on to adopt the baby boy, named Louis Bardo Bullock, after the divorce. Bullock still owns the New Orleans Gothic mansion.

Proudly stretching across just over four acres of land, the post-divorce Beverly Hills estate boasts seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms within the 8,110-square-foot main house. Inside you’ll also find a screening room, poolside pavilion, and a detached four-car garage.

2011 was also the year the busy actor returned to work, 12 months after adopting her son Louis. She began filming Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which came out that same year. She remains the owner of the Tudor-style mansion to this day and can spend her days admiring the views of Los Angeles from her hilltop estate.

But if you thought the Hollywood star would be satisfied with a Tudor mansion, you’d be wrong. In 2014, Bullock opened up her property portfolio to a condo in West Hollywood’s famous Sierra Towers for $3.6 million (£2.7m). Why not? It appears she can easily afford it. According to reports, equally well-known actor Matthew Perry previously owned the abode.

The 1,672 square foot condo sits across the 22nd floor of Sierra Towers, offering spectacular views across the city of light, and has recently been renovated by the star. Not content with just one two-bedroom, three-bathroom condo, the star decided to purchase a second condo in the same block in 2017. This time, however, she plumped for a more spacious 2,101 square foot apartment on the 20th floor for $5.1 million (£3.8m).

However, both condos have now been sold for a combined total of $8 million (£5.9m) according to Dirt, which is $700,000 (£514k) less than the star paid for the spaces. The condo she snapped up in 2014 (pictured) sold for a profit at $4. 4 million (£3.2m), whilst her second apartment went for just $3.6 million (£2.7m), a hefty $1.5 million (£1.1m) loss for the star.

Well, if we were a multi-award-winning, multimillionaire actor, we’d probably fancy a second Malibu home, too. Just two years after purchasing her first, Bullock went ahead and paid $5.3 million (£3.9m) for a neighbouring mint green beach cottage.

This one may be a little smaller than the first, but still has 1,300 square feet of stunning floor space. While it is unknown whether the two-bedroom, two-bathroom home is currently occupied, it was listed as a rental not long after Sandra bought it in 2020.

New Orleans is not a random place where popular celebrity Sandra Bullock acquired a chic estate and moved in with foster children live there. Adopted nine-year-old Louis and adopted five-year-old Layla - Sandra's black children were born in Louisiana, so despite the recent invasion of Hurricane Katrina, which brought flooding and devastation to the local environs, the Oscar-winning actress, after a divorce from her unfaithful husband, chose housing here. A three-story mansion in the French quarter of the city, due to the same hurricane, Sandra Bullock got inexpensively. For a Gothic Victorian house built in 1876, the actress paid $ 2.25 million.

Interior and exterior

It looks like a very beautiful, reliable and status mansion of the nineteenth century, similar to a castle, hidden behind a hedge of densely overgrown greenery. Juicy light colors of the decoration of the house and windows of various shapes visually increase its size of 615 square meters. The presence of a large number of decor of the facade of the house, carved wooden elements, many balconies and ledges with windows, turrets with broken roofs, covered with tiles, give the impression of a house constantly being completed with the addition of new premises.

Sandra Bulok's modern spacious Victorian mansion located in New Orleans, includes: 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, kitchen, huge dining room, large and small living rooms, hall, boiler room, laundry room, pantry and other utility rooms . In the yard there is a swimming pool and ample parking space.

Hall

Mandatory terrace at the entrance is decorated with carved columns combined with panoramic windows. From the entrance you immediately find yourself in a bright, spacious hall with a high ceiling and parquet floor, where chests of drawers made of natural wood are placed opposite each other on both walls with golden-framed mirrors hanging above them and there is a carved staircase leading to the upper floors. A large hanging chandelier and a fountain in the center of the room attract attention.

Dining and Living Rooms

The Victorian style home was built to accommodate many guests, so the dining and living rooms, unlike the bedrooms and bathrooms, are quite spacious. In the bright dining room there is a long table with many chairs made of natural wood, with a huge chic chandelier hanging above it with lamps in the form of candles. There is always a fireplace and on the opposite wall an old wooden chest of drawers with reinforced mirrors in gilded frames above them. Large panoramic windows are decorated with rich beige textile curtains.

Large bright living room with high ceilings and a huge beautiful chandelier is furnished with antique upholstered furniture made of natural materials with beige upholstery. In the center is a natural beige carpet with an exclusive coffee table on it. The presence of an old beautiful fireplace with a picture above it and many huge floor-to-ceiling windows with expensive snow-white tulle is obligatory.

The smaller living room with a fireplace is just as rich in appearance with massive upholstered furniture on decorative legs and bright colored upholstery to match the colorful wallpaper on the walls.

Kitchen

The modern Victorian style of the house has changed, so modern appliances are built into natural antique furniture in the kitchen.

Bedroom

The main decoration of the small room is an antique bed with a carved headboard. The pattern of the wallpaper seems to be connected with the antique candelabra placed around the room and on the bedside tables.

Rich grandeur

Victorian style highlights the status of the owner of the house with exclusive details and luxury living attributes. The chic of the interior furnishings of the house is emphasized with the help of gilded details. The cozy modern design of the premises dilutes a lot of fresh flowers in various vases, indoor greenery in pots, paintings, mirrors and candlesticks.

"Speed" (1994)

Still from the film "Speed" Daughter of an American and a German Sandra Annette Bullock

born in the USA, spent her childhood in Germany, starred in films and television since the late 1980s, and became a star in the summer 1994 The perfect action movie, with

the mind-blowingly beautiful Keanu Reeves

as an LA cop and Sandra as first passenger and then driver of an explosive-laden bus, remains one of the best and most successful films of both of their careers. Both Reeves and Bullock still reminisce in interviews about their mutual attraction, which was not destined to develop into a romance, but which was enough to bring them together again on the set of the soulful melodrama Lake House (2006).

"While You Were Sleeping" (1995)

Still from the film "While You Were Sleeping" The film starring Sandra

infused new blood into yet another "primitive" film genre - the sentimental romantic comedy. A naïve yet charming picture of a lonely civil servant (Bullock) being mistaken for the bride of a comatose man with bushy eyebrows (Peter Gallagher) earned Sandra the first of her five Golden Globe nominations and became a classic. for movie screenings on cozy lazy evenings.

"Miss Congeniality" (2000)

Still from the film "Miss Congeniality"

A comedy about an FBI agent in a skirt sent by her superiors to the Miss America beauty pageant, where a serial killer known as Citizen is planning to appear. Gracie Hart urgently needs to become a beauty in order to infiltrate the contenders for the crown of the winner and expose the criminal. Before the eyes of the audience and fellow agents, a metamorphosis takes place: the ugly duckling turns into a long-legged beauty. The best thing about comedy is Sandra's duet, not with the handsome Benjamin Bratt, but with the brilliant Michael Caine as pretentious stylist Victor.

"Crash" (2004)

Still from movie "Crash"

Having spent almost a decade cashing checks for roles in comedies (including the mega-successful "Miss Congeniality") and thrillers (including the very poor sequel "Speed"), about his genuine acting Bullock recalled her talents by agreeing to the role of second violin in the crime drama Clash. Playing a wealthy racist, Sandra made the right decision: the film caused a sensation by winning the main Oscar, and the actress was actively offered serious dramatic roles.

"The Lake House" (2006)

Still from the film "The Lake House" the inhabitant of this house, who personally created his project. A touching and aesthetic melodrama tells about the gradually blossoming love between the characters in different time spaces, living under the same roof. A beautiful architectural building, framed by a pine forest, becomes a place where their invisible meetings are played out - thanks to correspondence.

The Proposal (2009)

Still from The Proposal

After a series of dramas experienced by the movie star on the personal front, a renaissance in Bullock's career occurred towards the end of the 2000s, starting with a successful rom-com, where Sandra soloed as an office bitch, and Ryan Reynolds portrayed her accommodating subordinate. Surprisingly funny and not stupid, the film earned over $300 million worldwide, reminding of the commercial potential of the actress and becoming the starting point for her main film awards.

The Blind Side (2009)

Still from The Blind Side

In the fall of 2009, the whole intrigue in the Oscar category for Best Actress was whether debutante Carey Mulligan had a chance in a duel with Meryl Streep. But winter came, and the balance of power changed: the moralizing drama with Bullock as a purposeful woman from the American South became her second 300 million hit in six months, and Sandra's dramatic exit began to be showered with compliments and prizes, among which were the Oscar and the Golden Globe ".

"Gravity" (2013)

Still from the film "Gravity"

Bullock's Oscar triumph, despite the status of everyone's favorite, had many questions, but time has proved that the academics were not mistaken, although Sandra's best role is in the great space odyssey Alfonso Cuaron - left to be content with the nomination.
