A calm and measured rural lifestyle is something that a city dweller may periodically miss. Therefore, the popularity of country style does not decrease every year. A rustic-style kitchen is an opportunity to add coziness and a homely atmosphere, to equip a place for relaxation and rest from the hustle and bustle. What is the difference between the direction, and what rules should be followed when finishing, we will understand in the article.
Rustic features
When choosing a rustic style for their home, owners want to create a cozy and intimate environment. It is important to do this without sacrificing the modernity and functionality of the style, so the following features must be taken into account:
- The predominance of a natural, natural range. When making a harmonious combination of dark and light, pastel shades, bright contrasts should be avoided;
- Use of natural materials in decoration and furniture. The advantage is given to wood, stone;
- Handmade furniture and decorations are welcome. It is desirable to have one or two such items in the room;
- The selection of elements for decoration should correspond to the style: the decorations have a simple shape, a rough texture or a specially aged look;
- The presence of a large amount of textiles is important: towels, napkins, tablecloths. Ideally, they should be handmade: knitted or sewn by hand;
- Original items that correspond to the atmosphere of the time become the decoration of the kitchen. Wooden figurines, iron trays and Gzhel-style dishes and other similar items look organic even next to modern furniture.
The interior is well diluted with combinations of different textures and patterns on textiles and walls. A discreet palette with an original texture will also help maintain the mood of the direction.
It is worth striving to minimize artificial materials in the finish: plastic and chrome parts will look out of place. After all, it is required that the design looks simple and relaxed, even a little careless.
Color solutions
When arranging a rustic-style kitchen design, shades of natural wood are chosen as the base. At the same time, they are usually light, since dark ones fit worse into rooms of a small area and do not always harmonize with each other.
For a small kitchen, choose combinations of not too dark furniture and neutral walls. They are diluted with light green, muted blue, milky, vanilla, caramel and other soft tones.
The background is often white. This solution allows you to visually expand the space. Popular in modern trends, gray and black are used in rare cases. Instead, let's say a natural brown shade.
To add bright colors, preference is given to rich shades of natural origin: sand, terracotta, chocolate. With caution, you should choose shades of blue and green, which often act as an accent.
Saturated, but not too flashy colors can be used in accessories. Crockery, curtains, tablecloths and textiles can be accented. For example, orange, red, green, blue.
Kitchen set and furniture
The main requirement for a headset and furniture in general is their laconic form and a slightly aged look. Natural wood is chosen as the material for the kitchen set, more inexpensive material is chipboard or MDF covered with veneer. They are decorated with glass inserts, carved details, neat fittings. Plastic and other non-natural materials must be discarded.
The color is selected taking into account the dimensions of the room and the rest of the design. A universal option is a headset with a dark bottom and a light top. The rest of the furniture should have a close shade to the tone of the headset, textiles or finishes. Wooden or rattan models are suitable, which are complemented by forged details.
The design of headset cabinets may include an upper tier of open or closed racks. There should be no decor and patterns on the surfaces - minimalism is very important.
Rustic kitchen details
When creating a rustic kitchen project, a lot of attention is paid to the details of the situation. To create the atmosphere of a Russian hut, it is important to choose the right apron lining, wall decoration, decor and accessories.
Apron
The apron plays an important role not only as a protective coating, but also as a link between the wall decoration and the color of the headset. It can also act as a color accent and become an addition to the countertop. Shelves, hooks for textiles, holders for dishes and much more are attached to the apron.
In a rustic style, the apron is usually lined with brick or stone masonry. It is acceptable to use both natural and decorative stone. Before laying, both options must be treated with a special varnish, which will allow the canvas to become less dirty and easier to clean. Wallpaper with masonry imitation and protective glass is also suitable for country style.
Walls
The walls in a familiar rural house do not have to be absolutely flat, they are characterized by a slight roughness and a non-smooth texture. To recreate this effect in a modern rustic kitchen design, the wall cladding should be wood. This option is good for a large area, but does not always look good in a small space. There are many alternatives for this case:
- Dye. You can paint the walls in white or warm shades of brown, beige, olive;
- Textured plaster. Thanks to the rough texture, it turns out to give the finish a simple and casual look, characteristic of a rustic direction;
- Wooden cladding. Clapboard and wood-like panels perfectly help to imitate rural life;
- Brick. Brickwork or imitation brickwork is used in a small amount, wood should remain the base material. In urban conditions, brick finish allows you to realistically simulate a stove. Such a solution can be complemented by wooden or plastered surfaces, which make it possible not to visually reduce the area;
- Wallpaper. Not the best option for a rustic kitchen project, but if you want, you can pick up washable products that are plain with a textured surface. Plant motifs or geometry should be abandoned - such a design is closer to the style of Provence;
- Tile. A versatile option that is appropriate in country style. Monochromatic slabs are selected for it, collections with imitation of wood or stone texture will also be a good choice. For an apron, tiles that are plain or with a classic ornament are recommended, as well as canvases with an imprinted pattern or a clear textured pattern. It is permissible to decorate both the apron and part of the wall with small-format ceramics;
- Wallpaper. For country music, images of any rural beauties are suitable: a birch grove, a picturesque green meadow, a beautiful lake, or an imitation of carelessly processed boards.
Paul
For a kitchen in country style, a wooden floor is great. The plank surface must be sanded and covered with a protective layer. A popular lacquer finish is an inappropriate choice for a rustic style.
For rural kitchens, natural stone and porcelain stoneware with its imitation are common. The first option is more expensive and requires more complex care, so it is rarely used. Ceramic looks no less natural, but is durable.
If the layout of the apartment involves combining the kitchen with the living room, then a combination of a wooden floor in the recreation area with tiles in the place of eating and cooking is welcome. Floor boards are painted or left minimally finished with only a protective coating to emphasize the natural look of the flooring. In the living room, it is permissible to replace the solid wood floor with a parquet board of a shade similar to the rest of the floor covering. This option will cost less than natural wood, but is visually indistinguishable from the board.
An alternative to such a floor covering is often a laminate with increased strength or linoleum. Stone can be easily replaced with porcelain stoneware. Artificial finishing materials are often cheaper and more practical than natural counterparts. When choosing them, it is important that the tile exactly mimics the natural texture and pattern or has a neutral shade.
Decor
In a homely and cozy rustic style, textiles become the basis that sets the mood. Natural materials, lace, medium-sized floral and floral motifs, ruffles and frills are welcome. Rustic style in the interior of the kitchen is hard to imagine without knitted napkins, wicker lampshades and rugs, small soft pillows on the sofa and chairs.
Additional decor includes earthenware and wooden utensils, painted vases and planters, potted plants, mirrors in stylized frames, beautiful landscapes in paintings, black-and-white and retro photographs.
Lighting
The choice of lighting fixtures depends, among other things, on the height of the ceiling. If it allows, then you can use pendant lights on a long cord. In this case, chandeliers and lamps made of wood become the central source of light. The most stylized and characteristic models are forged, in the form of a cartwheel or with leather elements.
Additional lighting is desirable to place on the walls. Sconces or overhead rattan lamps will help create a special charm and mystical atmosphere.
In the area where food is prepared, high-quality lighting is required. Small recessed lights that will be almost invisible in daylight will do the job perfectly.
It must be remembered that the light in the interior of a rustic kitchen should be, like all decoration, natural and warm. Lighting necessarily creates an atmosphere of a relaxed summer holiday, spending time by a burning fireplace. If the kitchen is combined with the living room, then this element of style must be present.
A large number of lamps in a room with rustic motifs carries not only a functional load, but also helps to give the country design a harmonious finished look.
Who will suit rustic style
The rustic interior of the kitchen will appeal to those for whom unity with nature and a sense of calm is important. This is a good option for residents of large private wooden houses. But this does not mean that apartment owners cannot harmoniously design a room in this style. On the contrary, for them it is a way to get closer to nature.
In this style, connoisseurs of traditions and natural materials will definitely find something for themselves. Fans of collecting antiques and looking for unusual gizmos will find the opportunity to use original items to enliven the space.
Since there should be as many decorations as possible in the design of a country-style kitchen, the direction will not leave indifferent their admirers. The abundance of accessories will create an atmosphere of comfort and warmth. Technological innovations and modern details should be abandoned or added very carefully.
Due to the adherence to traditions, the rustic style is also liked by connoisseurs of the classics. The advantage of country is that it is permissible to add more color, shapes and textures here. But it is worth taking a closer look at natural materials, abandoning expensive furniture, overly textured finishes and pompous decorations. Simplicity and elegance are the characteristics that a rustic design should match.

If you follow the recommendations of the designers, you will not need to contact specialists for help. The rustic style is not difficult to implement: uneven walls, raw wood in the finish, ease in choosing textiles and cute trinkets for decor will only add charm to the setting. You can draw ideas for your home from the photo - thanks to the "chips" and spectacular design solutions, you will be able to equip the kitchen in a real rustic style.
Rustic style kitchen design: decoration, furniture
Tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city, many residents of megacities acquire small country houses, where they have the opportunity to relax their souls and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of rural tranquility. Accustomed to comfort and style, the modern owners of rural estates pay great attention to the interior of their home, starting with its very heart - the kitchen.
The design of a country-style kitchen has its own characteristics and differs significantly from the usual design of a city apartment kitchen. At the same time, it is no less effective and can have a very different performance. Many of the decor elements can be made with your own hands or you can purchase country-style designer items.

- retro accessories;
- warm colors.
Creating such an environment does not require cosmic financial costs and innate design talent. Rustic style in the kitchen is one of the easiest to implement.

Ethnic design is quite popular all over the world, and each country leaves its own special imprint on it. Thanks to this, the ethno style was divided into many directions.

Classic
Black, white, red
Dark wood floors, light ceiling
Houseplants, antiques

Delicate pastel shades: beige, peach, mint and others
Textured plaster, light walls, use of stone, brick and old boards
Antique or handmade furniture, lots of textiles and souvenirs, floral patterns, open shelves,

Plank or laminate flooring, tiles may be present, light walls required
Minimal décor, spacious bright space, simple furniture, lots of light sources
Russian
All shades of wood + bright textiles
Slightly sloppy whitewash, wooden floor, use of natural stone
Wooden utensils, embroidery and painting, baskets with fruits, herbs and mushrooms, flowers on the windows, oven

Milky, beige, bright yellow, chocolate, green, blue, orange and light gray
Wood paneling or wall paneling, checkered, polka dot or traditional patterned wallpaper, wood flooring
Curtains with pelmets, earthenware, wicker baskets, decorative plates, carpets and embroidery
All of these styles mix and match to create fresh and unconventional solutions for your home. The main mistake to avoid when creating a rustic-style kitchen interior is excessive lurid combinations.
Ethnic style is divided into several categories
It is not necessary to do everything in one style, you can combine several directions and get a unique interior
Natural wood is a must in the interior of the kitchen

Finishing occupies a special place in the interior of the kitchen in ethnic style. It is she who tells us about the style of the room and should suggest thoughts about the comfort and tranquility of provincial life. Even entering a room with a bare floor, walls and ceiling, we already understand that in front of us is a village house, and not a modern city apartment.
By finishing you can determine the style in which the room is made
Rustic style usually uses natural wood for decoration

Walls
The main technique that is used to decorate the interior of a modern kitchen in ethno style is wood-like wall decoration. It's great if the walls of the house are actually wooden. Otherwise, to create this effect, you will have to resort to the use of decorative panels or wallpaper with wood imitation.
You can visually expand the area of a small kitchen with the help of photo wallpapers. Be sure to choose a pattern that will organically fit into your interior: the image of a birch grove is suitable for Russian-style kitchens, floral patterns for Provence, and murals imitating rough boards will look in the spirit of a Scandinavian interior.
Rustic finishes tend to be somewhat rough, so uneven textures, whitewash and stucco work well here.
Walls can be finished with wallpaper, plaster or wood paneling
Perfectly straight lines may not be achieved
Whatever material you choose, the main thing is that everything is harmonious
See alsoItalian style kitchen interior
Ceiling
The decoration of the ceiling in a village house has its own characteristics. Here, decor in the form of ceiling beams is actively used. Usually these ceilings are quite massive, the material of execution is natural wood, and the color is chosen a little darker than the main surface of the ceiling. In the interior of a Russian-style kitchen, it is customary to decorate these beams with bundles of dried mushrooms, herbs and garlic.
Raw logs or planks are usually used for these ceiling structures. Artificial materials are used much less frequently.
The downside of this decor is the decrease in the height of the room due to it. Therefore, it is used only in the interior of kitchens with high ceilings.
Special attention to ceiling finishes
Ceiling beams often found on the ceiling
Sex
For flooring, a wood-effect laminate is quite suitable. Particularly interesting and natural are its varieties, depicting boards of different widths.
A wooden floor made of oak planks will fit perfectly into the interior of a rustic kitchen. Do not cover it with varnish, grinding and impregnation will be enough.
The room will look even more charming if you add a few woven rugs to it, which are very popular in the interior of village houses.
Usually wood is used for flooring
The floor can be tiled, it will look nice
The kitchen will look even better if the floor is laid with a wicker rug

Rustic furniture
A significant part of the country style is furniture. Massive tables and wide sets made of natural wood take up a lot of space in the kitchen and attract attention, setting the tone for the entire interior.
The main components of a country style kitchen are:
- large table;
- massive chairs and benches;
- wide kitchen cabinets;
- sideboards and cabinets.
All of them are decorated with carvings, panels, gratings and paintings that you can create with your own hands. It is also worthwhile to approach the choice of equipment for the kitchen very subtly: it should not look deliberately modern and progressive. Ideally, if you manage to find such models that will be executed in a retro style, but at the same time have a good functional filling.
Decorating a rustic kitchen requires simple, uncomplicated furniture. Give preference to open cabinets and shelves, try to refuse closed models, since in country style even ordinary dishes are part of the overall decor.
Large Scandinavian-style kitchens complete with rough oak furniture. It will go well with the ceiling beams that often decorate such rooms.
Interesting furniture design of kitchens a la Rus. A feature of this trend is the use of benches instead of chairs, painted furniture and bright textiles. The stove and the chest are also key elements of Russian cuisine, and it can be quite difficult to fit them into modern homes.

Since the basis of the rustic-style kitchen interior is the use of natural materials, and in particular wood, it is better to replace modern plastic windows with ordinary wooden ones.
Don't forget to remove the blinds as well and hang simple linen or cotton curtains in their place. For a house decorated in Russian style, bright curtains with floral patterns are suitable, and for a classic or Scandinavian style, checkered or striped.
There should be a lot of lighting in the kitchen, especially in the work area. To do this, lighting fixtures are placed not only on the ceiling, but also on the walls, and are also built into furniture. The design of the lamps is selected so that it fits into the overall atmosphere of the room and does not look too modern.
Preferably wooden windows
Curtains can be used in linen or cotton
There must be enough light in the kitchen

Classic country kitchen
The advantage of the classic style, which allows it not to go out of fashion for centuries, is an amazing combination of simplicity and elegance in one interior. A competent approach to such a design requires a competent ratio of the colors used among themselves: red, white and black.
White is always taken as the basis. So the kitchen room will seem brighter, and, therefore, spacious. With the help of light shades of walls and ceilings, you can create an illusion that visually makes the area much wider.
Rustic kitchen should be simple and clear
Preferably dark wood furniture
Dark shades of black, gray and brown are used mainly as framing: furniture elements, ceiling beams, flooring. To do this, it is better to use materials from natural dark wood.
Red color makes the kitchen more vibrant and life-affirming. It is used in details and accents: towels, curtains, tablecloths. There may well be red furniture, but you should buy it very carefully so as not to overdo it in the amount of red items. An unusual element of decor can be a red brick wall on one side of the room.
