When carefully considering what to really invest in during Amazon Prime Day 2022, a no-brainer for coffee aficionados is a full-featured, serious coffee machine. An expertly-brewed cup of coffee is the best way to upgrade your mornings, and ahead of Prime Day, Nespresso deals are through the roof, at up to a massive 24 percent off on some of the brand’s most popular models. For those who prefer a smooth espresso to drip coffee, a Nespresso machine is the fastest and most convenient way to go.

Nespresso espresso and coffee makers have raked in rave reviews with thousands of five-star ratings at all of the biggest retailers, from Amazon to Macy’s. Since launching in 1986, the Swiss company has released a wide range of sleek, advanced machines that issue premium coffee and espresso using their patented pods. In the mid-70s, Nestle employee and engineer Eric Favre fiddled with pod-based espresso, and now, Nespresso is synonymous with coffee capsules worldwide. Most coffee lovers favor the brand for its ease of use—just choose a flavor from Nespresso’s bevy of choices, pop the pod into the machine, and voila—an aromatic, proper cup o’ joe manifests in a few seconds. And there’s something for everyone, from machines that come with Aeroccino milk frothers , some designed to save counter space and others designed to heat up quickly.

These celebrity, chef, and barista-approved devices are well worth the investment. They can whip up a perfect cup of caffeine in mere minutes, transforming your kitchen into a cafe. You’d be in good company snagging these deals. One of our fav celebs and foodies, Jessica Alba, raves about them. In fact, the exact machine she uses in her kitchen, the Vertuo, now has a 14 percent discount. And who could forget George Clooney smoldering with a cup of Nespresso in their marketing campaigns, specifically the 2017 advertisement that had us all drooling? Clooney once told Bon Appétit: “Once you find good coffee, like Nespresso, you don’t need to add anything extra like milk and sugar. Quality coffee makes a big difference.”

Is it worth buying a Nespresso machine?

Arguably, the most successful brand in home coffee brewing, Nespresso, has collaborations with a variety of top appliance brands. These produce a range of great looking machines to help you create barista quality coffee from the comfort of your own home.

If it’s convenience you’re after, Nespresso machines have this covered. Each pod equates to a single coffee at the touch of a button.

The pods come in a range of flavours and strengths and in two sizes, from the original pods, which produce a shot of espresso, to the larger Vertuo pods which are larger in width and can make a variety of sizes, from an espresso to a long coffee.

While the majority of the machines on the market use original pods, there are a growing number of Vertuo machines so it’s definitely worth deciding which type of coffee you’ll make most before you buy, as the pods aren’t interchangeable.

Depending on your needs, Nespresso machines can simply make coffee, while others can steam milk for the perfect cappuccino.

What about waste and recycling?

Once used, the pods can’t be recycled normally, so many people worry that this causes unnecessary waste.

To combat this, Nespresso also offers a free recycling service, wherein they separate the spent coffee grounds from the pods and recycle both.

You can order special recycling bags when you buy your machine or contact the company to send them out free of charge. Once filled, you can drop off the bag at your local Nespresso store, or partner store or have them collected from your door.

European and American suppliers refuse to supply and service equipment in Russian restaurants - July 25, 2022

Business on nothing. European and American suppliers refuse to supply and service equipment in Russian restaurants.

Restaurateurs who failed to establish parallel imports buy used equipment for new discoveries, look for “Kulibins” at defense enterprises and mentally prepare for “technological cannibalism”. Import substitution is still stalling: manufacturers are not disturbed by volumes, and public catering is the quality of domestic analogues. The Ministry of Industry and Trade joined in solving the problem.

After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, not only suppliers of consumer equipment, but also professional ones, refused to work with Russia. Among them, for example, the German Rational and the Swedish Electrolux, Lyubov Markova, director of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers (FRiO) in St. Petersburg, told Fontanka. “Many brands, where the Americans and the British are co-owners, also refused to supply,” she comments. Now part of the equipment is carried by parallel imports through Kazakhstan, but this channel may soon be closed: global manufacturers monitor the growth of orders and begin to prohibit shipments to Russia for local partners. “The situation is the same with spare parts,” she adds.

The issue of shortage and import substitution of equipment and parts was discussed during the RestoGR business breakfast on 22 July. For example, the Teremok network tried to find in Russia an analogue of the French stove for baking pancakes. As purchasing director Mikhail Efimov said, a representative of one of the domestic factories took a stove, took it apart to the screw, copied everything, but ... nothing happened. “Everything is the same, but the pancake does not work on it,” he concluded.

Co-owner of "Teremka" Vitaly Svidovsky explained to "Fontanka" that we are talking about replacing the products of the company Royal Grill. "Teremok" was for her the largest customer in the world, but because of the events in Ukraine, she refuses to supply new equipment, even through Turkey and Kazakhstan. Now the network is negotiating with two Russian factories - one in St. Petersburg, the other in the Moscow region. But so far, Russian factories cannot find the required composition of cast iron for uniform heating. “We give parameters, but they still cannot get one hundred percent into them,” the entrepreneur said. But the experiments continue. The maximum task is to release an energy-saving analogue of French stoves.

There are no replacements for the brands of coffee machines that left Russia either, but deliveries are made through parallel imports, the businessman said. Earlier, the termination of work with Russia, in particular, was announced by Lavazza and Nespresso. In addition, a number of companies refuse to service the already delivered equipment. "Teremok" makes claims to them - so far in a pre-trial order.

The Norbert group (restaurants Nutcracker, Vkusnovitsa, Chaikhana Pakhvala) faced problems with spare parts for breweries, co-owner Alexander Sitnikov said. According to him, the company managed to find a “Kulibin” who made the necessary part according to German drawings at the Obukhov plant. “So far we have not experienced any serious problems with spare parts. There are parallel imports, they agree privately, as in 2000, if there are small details. But I don’t understand what I would do and where I would get the equipment if I started building a restaurant, ”the entrepreneur says.

Andrey Pertsev, the founder of the Ognivo and Balagan projects, who intends to open another restaurant by the end of the year, spoke about an unsuccessful attempt to collaborate with Chuvashtorgtekhnika (Abat brand). The company positions itself as the largest manufacturer of kitchen appliances, but, according to Pertsev, its equipment is more geared towards the defense industry and schools. “I went to the general director, I say <...> let's share competencies, make an alternative to the Americans. And he says: “Young man, you are an error in my turnovers, I don’t need you to strain my engineers and designers,” says the restaurateur.

A number of European vendors that have not officially announced their withdrawal from the Russian market still refuse to supply equipment, says Pertsev. “No one speaks openly, there are no letters that could be referred to, they just don’t ship,” he comments. First of all, difficulties arise with baking equipment. “I don’t know any alternatives to French and German stoves in Russia. If you can still find gas stoves, then there are simply no good induction stoves that would match imported equipment, ”the restaurateur notes. So far, it is possible to find used equipment on the market. “But there is a new project ahead, we are already starting to tender and we are facing problems,” he adds.

According to Alexander Ruzhinsky, RestoGR community representative, the scarcity and high cost of parallel import logistics have already driven up prices for used equipment. There are also problems with spare parts. Subsequently, this will lead to "technical cannibalism", when parts will be rearranged from one failed equipment to another, he notes. For some time, the business will survive on refurbished equipment, but then it will overpay for parallel imports, which will affect the “economic model”. But Russian analogues do not suit restaurateurs in terms of quality and price ratio.

Bakunin Group co-owner Alexander Romanenko does not believe in import substitution of sophisticated equipment. “It’s like doing Mercedes in Russia,” he comments. It is more realistic to switch to Chinese equipment, the entrepreneur believes. But it will not be possible to replace everything in the Middle Kingdom. “Some niche units, such as a thermomixer, can only be found in Germany, wood-burning pizza ovens - only in Naples, it cannot be replaced,” says Alexander Romanenko. But they, probably, can be imported through Turkey, just more expensive, he is sure.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade joined in solving the problem. According to Lyubov Markova, the restaurant equipment import subgroup is compiling a list of equipment and components that need to be quickly replaced. The factories are ready in principle, but they are waiting for support from the state in the form of simplification of inclusion in the register of Russian manufacturers. The second pain point is parallel imports: at the current exchange rate, domestic equipment cannot be cheaper than foreign ones. True, it is really not interesting for large factories to produce equipment for the needs of each particular restaurant. Cooperation between the players could provide volumes and guarantee sales. But even then it will not be possible to quickly create an alternative to European equipment. “Import substitution cannot happen at the snap of a finger, this is a long-term issue, not a month, not two, not three. And not even one year, ”comments Lyubov Markova.
