We all want to look and feel our best, and while there are a plethora of blenders on the market, having one that you can use to whip together a blended beverage on the go can help on your journey to better health. Plus, if all you want to do is whip up smoothies or protein shakes, you don’t need the superpowers of most of the typical blenders that can puree foods, make soups, or pulverize ice. Furthermore, sometimes a smaller portable blender can manage some of the tasks that your regular countertop blender can handle.

If you are someone who likes to hit the gym, go for picnics, go camping or go hiking, having a portable blender can be as vital and valuable as a thermos or a double-walled tumbler. The great thing is you don’t have to search high and low as these smaller and more compact blenders are easily found. Check out these portable blenders. We are sure that you will find that suits your purposes.

                The best blender for protein shakes is easy to use and clean and comes with a personal jar or two to take your shake with you on the go. You may need something that can liquefy hard and fibrous ingredients like greens and seeds, but if you tend to simply toss some ice and protein powder in the jar, an inexpensive blender with a compact design may be what you're looking for.

                We've tested more than 85 blenders, and below are our recommendations for the best options for protein shakes. If you're looking for a full-size blender, the models included on our best blenders for smoothies list are also great for protein shakes. See our recommendations for the best personal blenders and the best bullet blenders.

                  The best blender for protein shakes we've tested is the Ninja Foodi Power Nutri DUO. A personal blender is convenient if you're looking for a blender specifically for shakes. This model doesn't take up too much space on your counter and comes with a pair of 24-ounce personal jars with to-go lids, so you can blend a smoothie and use the blending jar as a travel cup. It has no problem crushing ice, so it's ideal for recipes that involve ice, liquid, and protein powder. If you like fibrous fruits and vegetables like kale, it has no trouble making a practically perfectly smooth blend.

                  This blender also comes with a 'Smoothie Bowl Maker' jar with arms inside that you can rotate with a knob on top. They act a bit like a tamper, allowing you to stir the ingredients without stopping the machine, which is great if you like to add nut butter to shakes and want to make your own. Unlike many personal blenders, it has a few automatic blending programs, so you can multi-task while your shake blends. However, it's loud, even for a blender, which is a downside if you like an early-morning shake and don't want to wake up the whole house.

                  If you're looking for something cheaper that can still handle tough shake ingredients like seeds and leafy greens, the Ninja Fit is a great option. This mid-range blender is lighter on features than the Ninja Foodi Power Nutri DUO, making it a bit less versatile and easy to use. It comes with a pair of smaller, 16-ounce personal jars with to-go lids. It can make a smooth blend with a variety of recipes, whether your usual shake is limited to ice, liquid, and powder or includes additions like fruit, vegetables, and nuts.

                  However, unlike the DUO, it lacks blending programs, and you operate it by pressing down on the jar. You need to keep your hand on the blender constantly when using it, which isn't the most convenient design. While it can produce smooth nut butter to add to shakes, it doesn't come with a 'Smoothie Bowl Maker' jar and isn't as easy to use for that purpose. That said, it's very easy to clean by hand, and the jars, lids, and blades are all dishwasher-safe. It's also much quieter than the DUO.

                  If you want to spend less and tend to make simple protein shake recipes with ice, liquid, and powder, consider the Oster MyΒlend. While it's not the most powerful blender on this list, it's an inexpensive option for making basic shakes. It has a sporty design and comes with a 20-ounce bottle-shaped jar. The lid is resealable, so you can easily take your shake on the go, and it has a built-in resealable lid that makes it easier to carry. It's not nearly as good as the Ninja Fit at crushing ice, but it can break up ice cubes, so adding ice cubes to your shake isn't an issue.

                  Unfortunately, it has a somewhat plasticky build quality, and some parts of the motor base feel cheap. Unlike the more expensive blenders on this list, it's not an ideal choice if you like to add fruit or vegetables like kale to your shake since it takes a long time to process fibrous ingredients and makes a less silky blend than the other picks. It's not ideal for processing hard ingredients like nuts, but you can add a spoonful of pre-made almond butter. Unlike the Ninja Fit, you don't need to hold the jar down to blend, so you may find it's more convenient to use. The jar, lid, and blades are dishwasher-safe and easy to clean by hand.

                  If you want to blend a smoothie after your morning workout or during your lunch break, you might want to consider a battery-powered blender. The ΒlendJet 2 is the best portable blender for protein shakes we've tested. You can take this well-built personal blender with you on the go and blend a protein shake even if you don't have a place to plug it in. It's designed so that you can drink directly from the blending jar, and the whole unit can fit into a backpack or a bigger purse. It's also very quiet, which is nice if you're using it in a shared space.

                  It can break up ice cubes but doesn't make the uniform, snow-like ice you'd want for frozen drinks. It makes an even grainier blend with fibrous ingredients, so if you add something like kale to your shake, you'll notice unprocessed bits in the final result. It takes a long time to process tough ingredients, and you need to stop and rest the blender periodically so it doesn't overheat, so it's better suited for simple recipes. It comes with a USΒ-A to USΒ-C cable for charging, and the manufacturer advertises the blender to last for about 15 20-second cycles. Unfortunately, no part is dishwasher-safe, but it's easy to clean by hand.

                  The design of personal blenders makes them the best option if you plan to mostly use your blender for shakes and other drinks. However, if you want a blender for protein shakes that can handle the occasional soup or big batch of margaritas, look at a full-size option like the Vitamix 5200. This very well-built blender only comes with a 64-ounce jar, but it's fantastic for blending single-serve portions and makes an extremely smooth puree with ingredients like fruits and vegetables, seeds, and nuts. It has no problem crushing ice cubes, either.

                  It makes an equally smooth puree with bigger batches. Unlike personal blenders, its main jar has a two-part lid, meaning you can pour in liquid mid-blend. You can easily use it to whip up a batch of homemade nut butter if you like a spoonful in your shakes. However, unlike the Ninja Foodi Power Nutri DUO, it doesn't have automatic blending programs, meaning you need to stop the blender manually when it's done. Its jar and lid aren't dishwasher-safe either. However, it doesn't take long to blend something like a protein shake, and it's easy to clean by hand, especially when working with liquid ingredients.

                  The Ninja Mega Kitchen System BL770 is the best mid-range blender for protein shakes we've tested. If you plan to make single-serve shakes but want a full-size blender for the occasional big batch, it's a good option. Using its main jar, it doesn't blend fibrous ingredients like kale as smoothly as the Vitamix, but it has no issue pulverizing ice cubes, so it's well-suited for ice and power-based recipes. There are also three personal jars included, and using these, it makes a nearly perfectly smooth blend with fibrous vegetables and fruit, so it can make a silky shake with most recipes if you're making a single-serve.

                  However, as a multi-purpose blender, it's not as good as the Vitamix 5200. It can't hot blend, so it's not as helpful for other types of recipes like soup or sauce, and it won't make nut butter as effortlessly. It has a sturdy build but doesn't feel as premium as the 5200 and has a shorter warranty. It has very sharp blades that make it difficult to clean by hand. That said, all of its jars, lids, and blades are dishwasher-safe, and unlike the Vitamix, it has automatic blending programs you can use to avoid standing next to the blender while it's running.

                  The Oster Pro 1200 is the best budget full-size blender for protein shakes we've tested. While it's not as well-built as the other full-size blenders listed here, it's a versatile option for protein shakes. It comes with a 48-ounce main jar and a 24-ounce personal jar with a resealable to-go lid so you can make shakes to-go. In either jar, it does a fantastic job blending fibrous elements like leafy greens and fruit skin into silky-smooth shakes.

                  It's also a good option for shake recipes that include ice, liquid, and powder since it easily pulverizes ice cubes in its main jar. However, the manufacturer says not to add more than six ice cubes to the jar at once, so your batch size is a bit limited compared to most full-size blenders. It's very easy to clean by hand, and the jars, lids, and blades are dishwasher-safe. Unfortunately, it has a mediocre build quality, which is a particular concern if you plan to use your blender every day. Oster advertises a U.S. warranty of either three or ten years, depending on the issue with your blender. Many blenders are only covered for one year, but it always depends on where you live and buy your blender.

                  If you're still looking for a blender, the options on our best blenders for smoothies list are all good options for protein shakes too.

                Our above recommendations are what we think are currently the best blenders for protein shakes for most people. We factor in the price (a cheaper blender wins over a pricier one if the difference isn't worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no blenders that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

                If you want to choose for yourself, here is the list of all our blender reviews, sorted by smoothie performance. Be careful not to get too caught up in the details. While no blender is perfect, most blenders are great enough to please almost everyone, and the differences are often not noticeable unless you look for them.

                  ? How to do it? And is it worth it to whip egg whites with a blender? I want to answer right away that whipping whites with a blender is not a good idea.

                  Can egg whites be whipped with a blender?

                  To begin with, a very important clarification: if you still want to beat the whites with a blender, then we use a whisk attachment. In no case do we use an immersion blender, so the proteins will not whip, but only the protein fibers will break.

                  Why is it a bad idea to whip whites with a blender? The power of a blender is usually always less than the power of a mixer, even a hand mixer. Of course, there is a possibility that it will turn out to whip the whites into foam, but will we reach the desired peaks? - doubtful.

                  Most often, we do not just beat egg whites, we need to get a meringue or some kind of dense mass. For example, after adding sugar or sugar syrup to the proteins, it is simply impossible to beat the meringue with a blender.

                  Beat egg whites with a blender until foamy. And you can even over-whip, but you won’t be able to beat the whites with sugar! A large role is played by the dishes in which the proteins are whipped and the blender itself.

                  If you need to whip a large amount of proteins, then the blender will most likely not cope with this task either. Be careful, because the blender heats up very quickly and can simply burn out.

                  Rules for whipping egg whites

                  If you decide to beat egg whites with a blender, then you should take a tall narrow glass for whipping, for example, from the blender itself. But here the following problem may arise: proteins do not whip in plastic dishes. Most likely, your glass has "absorbed" the fat and this prevents the proteins from whipping.

                  utensils

                  We always recommend wiping egg whites with alcohol. And don't use plastic utensils. Give your preference to glass or metal dishes (in this case, a glass measuring cup is perfect). And remember that the dishes must be dry, without a single drop of water. This is the first and very important rule when whipping proteins.

                  Egg temperature

                  Beat egg whites only at room temperature and even slightly warm. Such proteins will beat better and will turn out with small, identical bubbles. Therefore, make sure that the proteins are pre-prepared. Keep the eggs at least 6-12 hours at room temperature.

                  Separation of whites

                  By the way, the whites are easier to separate from the yolks when chilled, so you can immediately separate the whites after taking them out of the refrigerator. And without shells, proteins will reach room temperature faster.

                  Be very careful when separating the whites from the yolks. There are many ways to do this now. But if at least a drop of the yolk got into the protein, you should not try to get it, it is better to start the whole process all over again.

                  At what speed to beat whites with a blender

                  And the last thing that is important to know about whipping proteins is how to beat them correctly. We always say that proteins should be started at the minimum speed and gradually increase it to medium or slightly above average speed (depending on the power of the mixer). It's the same with blender. We start whipping at minimum speed - it can be 1-2 speeds. And increase to a high medium speed (about 6, depending on your blender). Be sure to keep an eye on how bubbles form. Remember that the protein should be whipped into a homogeneous foam, with the same small bubbles. And move the blender very smoothly so that large air bubbles do not form.

              How to choose the right blender for your home

              Not so long ago, a blender was not often found in stores, and if it was presented as a gift, it became the pride of the hostess.
              Today the market offers a wide range of kitchen helpers of well-known brands of foreign and domestic manufacturers. Devices have different sizes, configuration, functionality. However, there are general rules, the knowledge of which will help to acquire exactly the right equipment, when choosing it, it is taken into account:

              1. desired power;
              2. ease of use;
              3. ease of care;
              4. number and purpose of knives and attachments;
              5. the volume of the finished product.
              Each model has the main parameters that are taken into account when choosing a device.

              For those who want to buy a multifunctional and safe device, it is worth paying attention to the presence of additional functions, among them:

            2. the presence of a vacuum mode for processing products, which protects the mixed ingredients from oxidation; the kit includes a special vacuum pump and a sealed container;
            3. self-cleaning of the device, which is carried out with a small amount of water.
            Blenders also have additional functions.

            Attention! Some models have features that are not essential to their efficient operation. Among them - noise reduction, installation on the wall.

            Several manufacturers promise that the appliance can be used for steaming food. This is true, but practice shows that the effectiveness of this function is extremely low, and cooking creates a lot of inconvenience.

            Specifications of models may vary significantly, so please read the instruction manual before purchasing.

            Bowl material and size

            Manufacturers of different brands offer blender bowls made of various materials. This parameter is essential, as it directly affects the service life and quality of cooking.

            • The glass bowl is made of fire-resistant glass with excellent transparency. It has high wear resistance, does not react with the components of processed products, and does not absorb odors. Through the glass it is convenient to observe how the processing operation proceeds. A model equipped with a glass bowl costs more. Please note that glass is fragile and should be handled with care.
            • The metal container is made of food grade stainless steel. It is durable, has a significant weight and does not make it possible to determine at what stage the work process is.
            • Plastic bowls are the cheapest, easily injured, quickly lose their aesthetic appearance, they cannot be used for cooking hot dishes, but they are more durable than glass.

            An important productivity factor is the volume of the bowl. Any container can be used for submersible blenders, and stationary ones are already equipped with them.

            The volume of the bowl is selected according to the need for the finished product. Standard bowl - with a capacity of 0.5-0.8 liters. In addition, containers of 1-1.5 liters and jugs up to 2-2.5 liters are used.

            Blender power

            Engine power is the main condition for performance and functionality. It can range from 120 W to 2.6-3 kW.
            The power ratings will help you determine what types of food the appliance can be used with:

            1. 250 W for cocktails;
            2. 220-360 W will mix soft and liquid products;
            3. power 350-650 W makes it possible to work with solid foods, beat, cook pastes, jams, smoothies, minced meat;
            4. for crushing ice, grinding coffee beans, walnut kernels, a device with a power of 0. 7-1 kW is required;
            5. when kneading thick dough, it is necessary that the power of the device be 1-1.2 kW; it also allows you to process products of any hardness.
            Different products require different levels of power.

            One of the technical characteristics of products of this type is the indicator of the number of speeds. Most devices have two or three speeds in their arsenal. With the extended functionality of household appliances, from 5 to 10 modes are provided.

            In addition to the operating speed, the technique may include turbo and pulse.

            Blenders can run at different speeds.

            Pulsing button

            The use of the so-called pulsing button indicates that the blender is designed for pulse operation. It is effective in grinding especially hard foods: chocolate, hard cheeses, nuts, achieved with a short-term increase in motor power.

            If the button is held down, the knives start to rotate at the maximum possible speed for a short time. Such a function is necessary,

            • if you want to turn the product into a homogeneous mass by choosing the degree of grinding yourself;
            • when it is important to control the degree of grinding of products;
            • to speed up the process of turning the ingredients into a homogeneous mass;
            • when it is important to prevent the mixture from settling and lumping.
            The pulse button is used under certain circumstances.

            Only devices with a power of at least 400 W support pulsed operation.

            Chopper

            The list of operations may include food grinding. In submersible devices, a special glass is used for this, although any other container will do. The main thing is that it should be deep and have high sides so that the contents do not splash.

            A special container is used for grinding food.

            Please note! Before laying for chopping, vegetables or fruits must be cut into pieces. If there are bones, they must be removed.

            In a stationary device, the operation is carried out in a bowl where knives of the required format are installed. It is fixed on a stand.

            How to choose the mode and nozzles

            From the instructions that come with the device, the consumer will find out in what modes the blender can operate: in addition to the main operating mode, its design can provide for pulse and turbo mode.

            In pulse mode, the blades or attachments operate with a short interruption of rotation, due to the need to control the processing process.

            Turbo mode provides the possibility of short-term operation at maximum power to achieve complete homogeneity of the processed product.

            Both modes can be used for a short time so as not to reduce the effectiveness of the technique.

            To expand the functionality of the device, various nozzles are used:

            1. main leg - for cocktails, sauces, puree soups, baby food;
            2. whisk attachment is used for making batter, beating eggs, creams, cream;
            3. hooks - for kneading thick dough, connecting minced meat with spices and onions.
            4. leg for making sauces, mayonnaise;
            5. for mashed potatoes;
            6. chopper;
            7. "mill" for grinding coffee, cereals, sugar, salt, spices;
