LED Lighting Trends for 2023 | Discover the Latest Residential Lighting Trends & Technology of 2023

Trend 1. Simplicity In Lighting Design

Simplicity and minimalism in design have been growing trends in recent years – and they're only going to continue to gain prominence. Current lighting trends point to the simplicity of residential lighting designs to create a sleek and modern environment. Residential lighting fixtures, such as chandeliers and track lighting, benefit from toning down over extravagant design and using basic, primary colors. Paired with the design of a room, these minimalistic fixtures in shades of black, white or gray can draw the eyes to the parts of a space that hold the most color and interest. LED lighting trends have allowed for a wide range of color temperatures that further enhance a room and bring the atmosphere of your choice. Simple LED bulbs paired with simplistic fixtures can emphasize a clean, white space with a crystal glow or bring a sense of comfort to an area with a pleasant warmth. Ultimately, this lighting trend should be based on your personal preference and your interior design – but remember, think simple.

Trend 2. Wall Lighting Can Create Ambiance

Wall lights have been a part of current LED lighting market trends and have become ideal for creating soft, diffused light that can accentuate the residential lighting design of transitional rooms, such as bedrooms, studies and living rooms. Wall sconces are the most common type of wall lighting and can create a relaxing atmosphere of soft light that doesn't overly illuminate a room. In addition, current lighting trends show that a good interior design trick is to use your wall lighting to purposefully illuminate specific areas of a room or wall decorations. Our eyes may be drawn to a lovely chandelier hanging over a table, but a tastefully placed wall sconce casting light over a painting, mirror or bedside table can dramatically add to the quality of the light and the depth of a room.

Trend 3.

Hidden Lighting Sources Can Add True Depth

One of the most interesting current lighting trends is utilizing hidden light sources to accentuate specific parts of a room that may appear drab. Hidden lighting gives the illusion of streams of light emitting from surfaces seemingly from nowhere, adding a new level of texture and beauty to the room that is impossible to achieve in any other way. Hidden LED lighting industry trends have continued to innovate and allow designers to find new possibilities for their residential lighting designs. The rise of these lighting trends has allowed hidden lighting to become more functional – giving designers a chance to truly merge their lighting systems with the architecture of specific rooms.

Trend 4. Smart Lighting Is Perfect For Any Occasion

LED lighting market trends are continuing to innovate and expand upon smart lighting technology. Using a smart LED bulb, you can easily create different lighting scenarios over a wireless network from a mobile phone. Current trends in lighting seem to be headed in the same direction as most of the modern world – smart objects are popping up all over the home. Your lighting should be no different, and in fact, lighting is one of the most innovative uses of this smart technology. With smart LED bulbs, you'll be able to easily adjust the color, color temperature, brightness and intensity of one or all your bulbs from anywhere in your home. There's no limit to the different color combinations you can create with smart lighting. Create your perfect party mood lighting, a color combination perfect for reading, intimate ambiance for a romantic evening and more.

Trend 5. Environmental Friendliness in Lighting

Environmental friendliness is one trend that will never go out of style. Reducing the carbon footprint is a responsibility everyone in the world shares. Using LED bulbs rather than traditional fluorescent or incandescent bulbs is a simple step in the right direction. LED lights are up to 80% more efficient than other types of lighting, and 95% of the energy they produce is converted to light as opposed to the 5% of light fluorescent and incandescent bulbs produce. LED lighting market trends have focused on drawing less power to create more light and have eliminated the need for toxic chemicals like mercury in their structure, which is harmful to the environment. This is arguably one of the most important trends in lighting to focus on this year. Help the environment and provide quality lighting to your home with LED bulbs over other light sources.

LED Lighting Trends

We've spotted a few global trends and want to share them. We will give examples from our own experience.

1 trend - environmental friendliness

Almost everyone has taken a course towards caring for the environment, and industrial companies are absolutely obligatory. The LED lamp is one of the most environmentally friendly light sources. It does not contain hazardous substances, so LED equipment does not require decontamination and disposal at special landfills. And during operation, LED lamps do not emit either ultraviolet or infrared rays.

2 trend - aesthetics

Industrial designers are responsible for the appearance of the luminaires. They work to make mass-produced products:

One of the main styling trends is the streamlined molded body with lots of ribs. Moreover, the fins also have an applied role - they serve as a radiator for heat removal.

Cast industrial luminaires

The next trend is color. For many customers, it is important that the fixtures do not stand out from the general concept of the object. Therefore, now the equipment can be of any color: from classic black to unusual blue or light green.

3 trend - manufacturability

Luminaire manufacturability is its suitability for production, operation and repair, a characteristic that significantly affects the final cost of the product. With the increase in manufacturability, production is simplified and the price of the lamp is reduced. And its quality not only does not suffer, but often even improves.

One way to improve manufacturability is to avoid additional plumbing work such as drilling holes and threading. To do this, you need to work on the production tool itself - a mold or die.

4 trend - efficiency

The efficiency of an LED luminaire is the ratio of the luminous flux produced by it to the power consumed - lm / W. In simple words, efficiency shows how much light a consumer will receive for 1 watt “eaten” by a lamp. And the greater this characteristic, the more profitable the lamp for the user, the more rationally it uses electrical energy.

Efficiency is affected by:

the race for high numbers is serious, some manufacturers use little tricks and indicate in the technical specifications the efficiency of the LEDs, and not the lamp itself. Therefore, be careful: the efficiency of the lamp is always lower, because there are losses due to secondary optics (lenses and diffusers).

LED lighting market trends

LED lighting is now demonstrating its advantages over traditional light sources. The market for LED products has great potential for further development. Among the trends that are currently taking shape in LED lighting and capable of influencing the further development of this area, the following can be distinguished:

— Reducing the cost of LED products

Manufacturers of LED luminaires are aiming to reduce product prices in order to actively replace traditional light sources. To do this, it is necessary to reduce the cost of production of components. New technologies and the increase in mass production significantly reduce the prices for finished LEDs. However, the variety of powers and types of LEDs suggests that the market is still at the stage of determining the optimal parameters of LEDs for use in a particular area. Moreover, the cost of an LED in most cases does not significantly affect the final cost of a luminaire or lamp, the decisive role is played by the cost of the power source and heat removal system. Manufacturers seek to reduce their cost by replacing aluminum in the radiator with thermoplastic or using high-voltage LEDs that can work without drivers.

- Active implementation of lighting control systems

With the help of applications for smartphones today you can effectively control the lighting, setting the parameters for brightness, on / off. LED lamps in combination with lighting control systems can reduce energy consumption by 20-60%.

— Lighting systems based on organic light emitting diodes (OLED)

OLED technology allows the use of thin, bendable panels for lighting that can mimic natural daylight. Such lighting is more natural than conventional LEDs, but its cost is still very high for mass market introduction.

New technologies in LED lighting

In an effort to increase the efficiency of LED lighting, manufacturers are focusing on the following technologies:

— Laser light

In LEDs, the radiation efficiency decreases with increasing current density, however, in laser diodes, the opposite is true: with increasing current density, the radiation efficiency increases.

— Nanocrystal whiskers (NNCs)

Whisker nanocrystals are a relatively new material that has not yet found industrial application. The possibility of creating LEDs based on them is being actively studied by some manufacturers.
