How to make beautiful garden gazebo lighting

A light and cozy gazebo can become the most favorite pastime for all family members. To use it at any time of the day, regardless of natural light, it is necessary to consider an artificial lighting scheme for building.

Single lamps are fixed in the central part of the gazebo ceiling. Embedded appliances are placed on the ceiling with a certain step: so that the lighting is uniform, without dark areas and intensity drops.

Local or spot lighting is needed where general lighting alone is not enough. In the gazebo, this can be a dining area, a seating area, a barbecue area.

Usually spotlights give a directional light. The light flux from them is not scattered in the surrounding space, but is concentrated in a certain direction. In order to create an effective and aesthetic lighting scheme for the gazebo, it is necessary to take into account the design and other features of the building itself.

In a square and round gazebo, the main light source is placed in the center of the ceiling.
Forged chandeliers with glass shades, as well as lamps with lampshades made of natural materials: wood, jute, rattan, look organic in wooden and brick buildings.
For a rectangular gazebo, one chandelier may not be enough: the light from it will not be enough in the corners of the room. In buildings of this form, it is better to use several pendant lamps placed in one or two rows along the length of the ceiling.

Hangers must be selected taking into account the height of the ceiling in the gazebo: after installing the lamp from its lower edge to the floor, there must be a free space of at least 2.1 m high so that no one can accidentally touch it.

As an alternative to classic lamps, the main source of light in the gazebo can be LED strip. It is fixed along the perimeter of the ceiling (for example, on a ceiling cornice or ceiling beams). Such lighting visually raises the roof of the building, giving the impression that it is floating in the air.

In a small gazebo, you can limit yourself to only general lighting, and for spacious rooms, at least 1-2 additional local lamps should be provided. It can be, for example, a wall sconce or floor lamp next to your favorite reading chair or a hanging lamp in the cooking area.

Decorative lamps can decorate both the facade of the gazebo and its interior design. An open building will look very elegant and festive if the space between its vertical supports is closed with a curtain garland. In a closed gazebo, you can place a pair of Chinese lanterns at the entrance or next to the fireplace. Classic garlands will look good fixed around the perimeter of the ceiling.

Dust and moisture protection level

This indicator determines the possibility of using luminaires in open air conditions. The level of protection from negative environmental factors is indicated by the IP index. The higher it is, the more difficult operating conditions the lamps can withstand.

For outdoor gazebos, choose lighting devices with an IP index of at least 65. Even heavy rains and prolonged high humidity are not afraid of such lamps.

Lamp type

LED lamps are the best choice for illuminating the garden arbor. They have a good glow quality, do not heat up during operation, are economical and have a long service life. The disadvantage of diode light sources is their relatively high cost compared to other types of lamps.

In closed gazebos, both incandescent and fluorescent lamps can be used for lighting. They are cheaper than LED lamps, but they have serious drawbacks.

Incandescent lamps get hot during use and can easily start a fire, especially in wooden buildings. Fluorescent lamps contain mercury hazardous to human health. They must be handled very carefully, the slightest damage to the flask can lead to mercury vapor entering the air.

It is not recommended to use halogen bulbs to light the gazebo. They become hot during operation, and their flasks must not be touched and must be carefully protected from moisture. Any slight contamination or a drop of water on the glass can cause the flask to break when turned on.

Brightness and temperature of light

It is necessary to select lamps by power, taking into account the type of arbor. In open buildings, the light scatters more strongly, since it simply has nothing to reflect from, therefore, in such arbors, light sources of greater power should be used than in buildings of a closed type. Install 75 watt bulbs in the fixtures. They give light that is comfortable enough for the eyes, but if it seems too dim to you, replace the light sources with more powerful ones.

Light has not only different powers, but also different temperatures. This characteristic indicates the shade of the glow of different sources.

The temperature of the light is:

cold (bluish, blue),
neutral (white),
warm (yellow, orange).
