Johnny Depp’s French village: the estate listed for $55 million that never sold
Are you something of a bon viveur? If you enjoy all the good things in life that Provence has to offer (we’re talking fine wine, excellent cheese, lavender fields, sunflowers, long summers and fragrant cypress trees), Johnny Depp’s French village could be for you. But you’ll have needed $63 million to make the hilltop village your own, which may explain why it never sold.
The Hollywood actor, who is making headlines for other reasons currently, reportedly relisted the estate for $55 million last year after putting it on the market in 2015 and 2016 at various prices, from $27 million to $63 million, without making a sale.
And while many might consider $55 million a high price for some of the world's best homes, what can you expect from a whole village owned by one of the world's most famous movie stars? We take the tour.

Johnny Depp bought the abandoned village, just 17 miles from celebrity playground of St Tropez, back in 2001 at the height of Pirates of the Caribbean fame.
He reportedly spent around $10 million renovating the village buildings, sensitively restoring the stone and wood-beamed structures, during his 14-year relationship with French-actress and singer Vanessa Paradis. The couple enjoyed the estate together until their separation, and Johnny then looked to sell.

The owner of the village can enjoy their own private restaurant, Chez Marceline, as well as a main house and six guest houses, one of which was the original village church.

Collectively, Johnny Depp’s French village boasts 2,900 square feet with 15 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.

The grounds include two swimming pools, a charming town square with lush landscaping and outdoor dining, a skate park, a full gym, and a wine cave, which boasts decor that could be straight out of the Pirates’ film franchise, including a decorative skull.

The estate is dotted with 300-year-old oaks, gnarly olive trees, and vineyards, offering bucolic scenery and a highly sought-after lifestyle.

The village is a short convertible car ride away from St Tropez, which has been a draw for the jet set crowd since the 1950s, when Brigitte Bardot arrived to film And God Created Woman and never left. The resort was already popular with an elite crowd after the pointillist Paul Signac led artists to to the area in the late 19th century, including the likes of Picasso and Sartre. However, it was Brigitte that garnered its worldwide attention.

A host of celebrities followed in her footsteps, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Moss, and Elton John. And, of course, its a designer shopping mecca, with top-end names like Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana peppered along the cobbled streets, particularly in the triangle between Place des Lices, Rue Gambetta and Rue Allard.
And for some seriously celebrity-spotting? Head to the beach restaurants of Pampelonne beach where, on any given day, you might spot anyone from Sylvester Stallone to Beyonce and Jay-Z.
Johnny Depp spends much of his time at his home in LA's Hollywood Hills.
He has been the owner of several unusual properties over the years including a collection of penthouses in downtown Los Angeles, a 45-acre private island in the Bahamas, and a horse farm in Kentucky that he purchased twice, the second time as a gift for his mother, who died in 2016.
The five penthouses are in an Art Deco building Los Angeles; he and Amber Heard lived in one of these while married, with friends and family living in the others. He put it up for sale after he and Heard parted in 2016.
The private three-island atoll called Little Halls Pond Cay in the Bahamas, which Depp bought for $5.35 million, and still owns, is where he and Heard married in 2015.
Johnny Depp also owns five neighboring homes in the Hollywood Hills worth $19million.
He also owned a 150-foot yacht. He called it Vajoliroja (the name uses the first two letters of his first wife's, his, and his children's names – Vanessa, Johnny, Lily-Rose and Jack). He reportedly sold it to JK Rowling of Harry Potter fame in 2016.

Words: The Gentleman
The South of France is all the rage just now. The Cannes Film Festival is in full, star-spangled flow; La Colombe d’Or is the place to be; and Alain Delon’s Riviera-chic wardrobe is the seasonal staple every gentleman should be aspiring to at this very moment.
And if you’ve got a spare (approximate) $55.5 million, there’s a certain Provençal property that may just make that South of France lifestyle not merely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but a breathtakingly luxurious way of life.
If we told you the estate originally took the form of a village, located in Le Plan De La Tour (just a few short miles from Saint-Tropez), would that ring any bells? How about if we drop Johnny Depp’s name into it? Presumably, the mist is now clearing: the A-list actor’s village estate first went on the market back in 2016, and was never sold. Now, it’s back on: all charming, rural, bountifully luxurious 37 acres of it.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Depp’s property if it didn’t stray from the bounds of ‘normal’. What is ‘normal’, you ask? Well, presumably a typical estate — even a 37 acre estate — wouldn’t feature a skate park (that’s right, a skate park) and a heavily decorated wine cave space irresistibly reminiscent of — and apparently inspired by — a lair from Pirates of the Caribbean.
If the skate park didn’t grab your interest, allow us to share some privileged insights into the renovation process. For a start, Depp’s creativity is by no means limited to the big screen. We frankly don’t want to know how much he spent on buying and renovating the 19th-century village into his own private estate (although the — unsurprising — word on the street is that millions’ worth of dollars were involved), but the end result clocks in at 15 bedrooms (including six guest homes, one of which is in what used to be the village church) and 14 bathrooms.
If al fresco dining is your preferred summer culinary state, then you’ll want to avail yourself of the renovated town square: the village estate’s foremost outdoor dining space. There’s indoor dining, too; the estate features its own bistro (well, actually it’s a private dining space decorated exactly like an actual bistro — perfect for those who want a hospitality experience without having to fling on a face mask every time they wish to use the bathroom), which Depp named Chez Marceline. And we’ve yet to mention the two swimming pools (would it be a village estate if there was only one pool?), the gym, the art studio and the covered wagon with full bath and kitchen (we can’t make head or tail of that last one, either; but that’s Depp for you).
With structures mostly designed by Depp himself, the estate is an unparalleled insight into the mind of one of the most famous actors of his generation. It’s quirky, it’s unprecedented, and it keeps you guessing — just like the actor in question. It’s also rife with luxury at every turn: and if a quintessential, 19th-century paradise could be encapsulated into 37 acres, we have a feeling this would be it.

Johnny Depp is now living a quiet life in his sumptuous $15.8 million Downton Abbey-style estate in Somerset after his controversial court cases with ex-wife Amber Heard. However, the English estate is not the only impressive estate in the famous actor's real estate portfolio, who managed to acquire homes around the world. And I already got rid of some of them. The Daily Mail writes about it.
However, due to a tumultuous and very costly divorce from actress Amber Heard, which was finalized in January 2017, Depp was forced to divest himself of some of his valuable assets.
Private island in the Bahamas
Depp first saw Little Halls Pond Cay while filming Pirates of the Caribbean in 2004 and bought it for $3.6 million.
It was here in 2015 that he celebrated his wedding with Amber Heard. The island is currently listed for sale on the Vladi Private Islands website, which lists islands for sale but does not list a price.
Johnny Depp's Private Island
The island has six beaches named after the children of Depp and his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, a palm-fringed lagoon and solar-powered houses.
Depp and Heard's wedding
"I don't think I've ever seen such a clean and beautiful place. You literally feel like calming down when you're there. It's instant freedom," Depp described his island.
French estate
From the 37-acre estate, or rather small village, near the French village of Plan-de-la-Tour, which Depp lovingly restored for Vanessa Paradis, he decided to get rid of sentimental feelings. And since 2015, it has been up for sale for $15.5 million. Later the price was increased to 55 million.

Depp has decided to "close a chapter" of his life with ex-partner Vanessa Paradis, sources said. It took 14 years and millions of dollars to restore the estate. How much exactly is not known. A guest house was made from the church, and a dressing room was made from a secret confessional.
Local restaurant turned into a family canteen. Other houses have been converted into garages, laundry rooms, guest rooms and playrooms.
Venetian Mansion
Historic 17th century house overlooking Venice's Grand Canal boasts seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Johnny Depp put his Venetian mansion up for sale for $10.8 million in 2016.

He bought it because he fell in love with Venice after filming here with Angelina Jolie in The Tourist.
Five penthouses in Los Angeles
Johnny Depp has already disposed of five penthouses in Los Angeles by selling them for $10.88 million. Which was below the asking price. However, the actor was in a hurry to pay off the business managers who saved him from financial ruin.
They were located in the historic Eastern Columbia Building in the city center and featured an exquisite Art Deco design.
Depp reportedly used these apartments as his personal living space, but kept two of them for an art studio and a guest apartment.
Five houses in Los Angeles
In addition to penthouses, Johnny Depp also owned five houses in Los Angeles, but sold them for $19 million during his divorce from Amber Heard.
Among them was a luxurious 1920s mansion that Depp bought in 1995. There was his recording studio, and the house itself was in a eucalyptus grove.
Kentucky Horse Farm
A huge farm with six bedrooms, two barns and a swimming pool was hastily sold by the actor for a modest $1. 3 million. While initially he asked twice as much.
He bought the farm for his mother Sue Palmer in 2005, who lived in the house until her death in 2016.
House in Queensland
But from a luxurious house on the Gold Coast in Queensland, where Depp lost a fingertip during a violent scandal with Amber Heard, the actor clearly got rid of pleasure. It was sold for $40 million in October 2022, the highest amount ever paid for a home in Queensland.

Known as Diamond Head, the sprawling estate has 10 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms and covers 18 hectares. It was previously rented by Brad Pitt.
There is a private jetty and even an airstrip for private jets.
Somerset Manor
Now Johnny Depp is hiding from prying eyes in his luxurious estate in Somerset, UK. The cost of the estate with a 19th-century mansion is $15.8 million.

Depp has described this place as where he prefers to spend most of his time.
Depp has insisted that he is not "the great extrovert people think" so most of the time he wants to be alone. And in Britain it is provided to him. "I just love places with character. The British are cool and will welcome you like a neighbor without going out of line. I'm quite a shy person. That's one of the great things about Britain, and especially Somerset. I can just be myself - and that's nice," — Depp said.
He bought this estate in 2014, when he was already engaged to Amber Heard. The mansion has 12 bedrooms and eight bathrooms. There are also luxurious walled gardens.
Recall that earlier Focus wrote about what Johnny Depp spent his impressive fortune of 600 million dollars. He bought yachts, antiques and shot the ashes of Hunter S. Thompson from a cannon
