Installation of chimneys in a country house

Chimneys and options for making them

Steps for constructing chimneys
Installation of sandwich chimneys

When designing heating systems for private houses, installing a chimney solves several problems at once. These problems can be perfectly eliminated by self-organization of this kind of work.

So, what are the most important tasks that can be solved with the installation of a special smoke pipe?

  1. Firstly, a chimney is needed in the house in order to eliminate the compounds remaining from combustion, which are especially harmful, or even fatal to the body.
  2. Secondly, the pipe for removing combustion products must prevent the penetration of the latter beyond its boundaries and protect building floors, walls, and other structures (including the roof) from possible ignition.
  3. And thirdly, the chimney aesthetically peeking out above the roof decorates the house.

Returning to the above, it should be recalled that any owner will be able to install the chimney himself, you just need to carefully monitor the progress of work and follow basic instructions.

Chimneys and options for their manufacture

Systems for the removal of combustion products according to the quality of the source material are metal (What metal can be used here? For example, cast iron or generally stainless), lined with bricks or more fragile, that is, made of ceramics ( catalog of ceramic chimneys). Now pipes for the removal of volatile substances are made of constituent elements, they are heterogeneous in their content.

The piping configuration should be chosen to be as close as possible to the architectural design.

In terms of the attractiveness of the price, the best one is metal. It is exactly suitable for boiler houses or bathhouses, as these are non-residential premises. But such a solution for a residential building is not advisable, because a metal chimney is always not tightly connected joints, as a result of which it will not work to get rid of smoke in the room. In addition, the metal will not last long, the reason for this is known to everyone - instability to increased humidity in the atmosphere, the consequence of this is rust.

Pipes made from heterogeneous components are stronger. Inside - a substance that retains heat, which, moreover, is not yet amenable to combustion. But for the sake of increasing income, manufacturers put in a cheap insulating substance, the durability of which should not be deceived. That is why when buying this product, it is simply necessary to pay attention to the information about the supplier.

The cheapest way is to roll the chimney out of thin stainless material. The lightness of the pipe in this case makes it possible to fix it to the house, having spent a few fasteners, and the processing of stainless steel is as easy as shelling pears - with special scissors.

As for the ceramic chimney, it is not easy enough to install, all because of the complexity of installation - it is done exclusively with the repair of the entire building. Devices and tools for arranging a chimney

You can make a pipe that exhausts gases with your own hands, having the following: a chisel, a grinder, a drill for punching the necessary holes, a trowel, a screwdriver, a jigsaw, a Phillips screwdriver, a spatula, protection against dust and debris (gloves, glasses), a hammer (large is not needed, it is better to choose a smaller one).

Chimneys according to the method of planning and device are divided into internal and external. How to decide which of the rich variety of ways to choose?

If it is used to improve heating pipelines, the foundation of which is a heating tank (actually a mass, any option is possible), it is better to choose an internal design. Experienced homeowners intend to mount these systems not outside, but in the walls. After all the necessary planning and attachment steps are completed, these “smoke” pipes are walled up in the middle (in the wall), and after that the designer will come up with a disguise. The advantage of this approach, and quite a big one, is the resistance of the system to moisture absorption and protection from rain, snow, etc.

However, gases, dust particles, and other suspended matter resulting from combustion and melting retain heat and heat. It follows from this that the area of the house, in direct contact with the chimney (if it is internal), becomes very hot and even ignites. That is why the latter should not be done in walls made of combustible materials, this option is also not recommended for connection to powerful boilers, which give a volumetric column of flaming fuel residues.

What is the chimney made of?

If it is external (usually constructed when the size of the room is more than five hundred square meters. A similar device can be installed, if it is difficult, for reasons beyond our control, to make it different. For example, in rooms with concrete floors it is not more difficult to break through the main slab (interfloor) than to make a passage in the wall.

Is it possible to make a cast-iron chimney?

Today, the most economical, the simplest way is to install from metal. The whole process is divided into three steps:

  1. step. Pre-prepare the recess for laying the chimney.
  2. step. After successful preparation in the previous step, manually mount your chimney.
  3. step. Well, and now, at the final moment, the installation (mounting) of the previously selected insulating materials over the entire pipe area is carried out.

The recess for the metal pipe should be about 1.5 times larger than its diameter. Then there will be such a space necessary for the placement of insulation.

Installation of a stainless steel smoke outlet

The metal chimney itself is usually made up of various, dissimilar components: a cylinder, adapters for tunics (for their installation) and a cap. Don't forget the capacitor. In all such options for the manufacture of chimneys, the so-called damper is installed - this is such a unit that increases the system draft.

Activities for the construction of chimneys

To start the installation, planning, preparing, and finally organizing the chimney, the cylinders need to be cut to size. Then the pre-composed pipe is placed in the recess that you pre-made. Next, we bring a capacitor, a heating device to this product, connect it (what it is - a furnace, a boiler - it does not matter). Finally, we install the header.

Be sure to firmly fix the pipe, and you need to do it this way: attach it to the wall, and besides, you need to make sure that the fasteners are mutually at a distance of no more than 1.5 m.

Exceptionally, only after high-quality insulation of the chimney, the owners will forever avoid the ignition of parts of the house due to a suddenly perforated pipe. In order to isolate the metal chimney, the well-known refractory clay, well, or foam, is suitable for everyone.

As regards the fastening of the mentioned pipe, then it is obligatory to fasten it strictly by means appropriate to the case, counting alternately 0.5 m. The reason for this is the heavy weight of the pipes for smoky fumes. And the mounting holes are punched at longer distances - at the rate of two pipe widths.

Cast iron, if it is used for making pipes, is much more difficult to install, but it will last longer as a means of removing smoke.

Sandwich chimney installation

The aforementioned chimneys, made by combining certain types of materials, come to our homes to replace ordinary ones made of metal. A multi-component assembly makes it possible to well protect partitions in dwellings from overheating and fire. To mount such a “chimney”, a second thermal insulation is absolutely not needed, which is why the mounting holes are made naturally almost the same as the width of the pipe.

With a similar installation of smoke passages, the boundaries of the pipe pieces come in mutual holes, by analogy with nesting dolls, for joining the bends, in any case, you do not need to bother with separate fixing. How to “sandwich” to attach pipe elbows to each other? Of course, you need to use special glue. It will prevent the passage of smoke into the housing.

Such pipes always react very noticeably to the presence of condensate from the atmosphere, for this reason, no specialist will recommend doing it during external installation work, during the installation of the outlet pipe. In the middle of the walls of the room, a difficult wire will function for many decades - up to seventy.

Now the description has come to the most suitable material from which the outer chimney can be made. This is stainless steel. It weighs little and lends itself well to processing with the most common tools.

So, how do you install an external chimney in this case?

In order to manufacture an external chimney from the above material, the following steps must be performed in sequence:

What should I do if the stove smokes? – 7 common problems and tips to fix them

Interruptions in gas and electricity are common in a country house. And it's good if it has a wood-burning stove or a fireplace. 1. SAZA in the chimney
  2. Inappropriate or low -quality fuel
  3. Air cork
  4. condensate in chimney
  5. WHICE PRIMECTION
  6. Non -compliance with technologies for omnibus. what to do if the refrigerator makes noise?

    Soot in the chimney

Over time, any chimney is covered with a layer of soot from the inside, and this in turn leads to a decrease in draft. There are several tricks you can use to increase the interval between brushings.

    These include:

    • Use only dry birch firewood.
    • Addition of special chemicals to kindling.
    • Periodic kiln burning of potato peelings.

Sooner or later, you will still have to clean the chimney. You can do it yourself (using a special brush and cleaning products) or by calling a chimney sweep.

    Unsuitable or poor quality fuel

A common mistake of inexperienced stokers is to use the wrong fuel. If you put firewood in a stove designed for coal, a plug will appear in the chimney and the stove will begin to smoke. The same will happen if low-quality materials are used, such as raw firewood. And do not forget that low-quality fuel can render the stove unusable.

    Air lock

If the stove has not been used for a long time, a cold air area may form in the chimney. There will be a pullback effect. Removing the cork is very simple, just put a piece of newspaper in the soot compartment, and then set it on fire. Air flows should be normalized.

Please note! Completely prevent the appearance of traffic jams in the chimney will allow the installation of a special device on the pipe to enhance the draft (deflector).

    Condensation in the chimney

Condensation in the chimney causes the smoke to cool before it leaves the chimney. Which naturally leads to the formation of an air lock. Condensation may occur due to damp weather or long periods of inactivity of the stove. To prevent its formation, it is recommended to make a fire in the stove at least once every four days. You can dry the chimney with paper or wood chips.

    Chimney leakage

The chimney and firebox operate in a very aggressive environment, cracks and crevices gradually appear in them. Violation of tightness leads to the appearance of smoke in the house. If the stove is not yet old, try to repair the cracks with a repair mortar. And if she has already served her term, then it's time to think about replacing her.

    Non-compliance with installation technologies

If a new stove smokes, then most likely the reason is in the shortcomings of its design. Too wide or too narrow a chimney can lead to smoke in the house, as well as the wrong location of the chimney.

Sometimes experienced craftsmen can solve a problem with minimal effort. For example, by reducing the size of the firebox or by installing a suitable deflector.

    Wet masonry

A new stove will dry out for at least two weeks after completion of work.
