Dyson v8 release date
Dyson V8 review | TechRadar
TechRadar Verdict
Sitting in between the Omni-Glide and the much more expensive Cyclone V15 handstick, the Dyson V8 offers a powerful option for those wanting a Dyson vacuum for less. Despite originally launching way back in 2016, it still offers great performance, with good suction and 40 minutes of battery life on its standard setting. You can still get cheaper in this category, but the Dyson V8 is a lightweight, heavy-duty dust buster that can replace the traditional corded vacuum cleaner in most households.

One-minute review
Following a reshuffle of the Dyson lineup and the discontinuation of a couple of models, the Dyson V8 is now the entry-level option in Dyson’s cordless vacuum line-up for anyone that has carpet (there is the Omni Glide for hard floors below it). Having been initially launched back in 2016, it’s also one of the oldest models, but it still manages to impress with its performance — especially now it’s had a recent price drop.

Should I buy it?
Like all the other Dyson handsticks, there are a few different versions of the V8 available. They all share the same motor and battery – the only real difference between them all is the number of extra tools they ship with, so do check which one best suits your needs.
- Dyson V8 at Best Buy for $289.99
Dyson’s recognisable design aesthetic runs through all of its models and the V8 is no different. You get a transparent 0.54L dustbin that makes up the bulk of the handheld unit, with 15 small cyclone cones arranged in a two-tier flower shape in front of it. Now with better sealing throughout the vacuum cleaner, the V8 traps most microscopic particles, to help people with allergies. It is also the first Dyson handstick to feature the company’s improved bin-emptying mechanism, for greater hygiene when ditching the dirt.
The Dyson V8 isn’t just for floors – it quickly converts into a handheld minivac that can be used to clean upholstery at home, in the car, on the boat, or anywhere else you can think of. You can even get to ceiling corners without hurting yourself.
Wherever you use it, performance is strong across the board. Of course, if you’re buying it primarily as a car vac, it’s pretty expensive, but as your main vacuum cleaner, offering the option to shapeshift to other use cases makes it quite a handy machine to have in your cleaning arsenal.
Battery life is good on standard suction mode, although the seven minutes in Max mode is a touch short. Thankfully we found it could pick up most debris on the lower setting with an occasional blast on the higher setting doing a good job of collecting anything left over.
If you can afford its highish price tag, the Dyson V8 is a hugely versatile machine for just about anyone, and might just be the only vacuum cleaner you will ever need.

- List price: $449 / £249 / AU$499.
As we mentioned earlier, the V8 is actually the oldest handstick model in Dyson’s current range. It was launched in 2016, but that doesn’t mean it’s particularly cheap. While prices have dropped since we first tested the V8, its starting price still remains relatively high at $449 /£249/AU$499, direct from Dyson’s website.
In the UK, the base model you get for that price is the V8 Animal (in fact, it’s the only V8 model listed on Dyson UK’s website), while in Australia, it’s the V8 Origin and in the US, it’s just the V8.
(Image credit: TechRadar)- Versatile 2-in-1 design
- Reasonably ightweight
- Easy to maneuver
Every single Dyson product has a design aesthetic that’s very appealing, and the same philosophy applies to the V8 as well.
You get a transparent 0.54L dustbin that makes up the bulk of the handheld unit, with 15 small cyclone cones arranged in a two-tier flower shape in front of it. It weighs 3.5lbs/1.6kg with no attachments, and at its heaviest, it weighs 5.6lbs/2.6kg (with the wand and main cleaning head attached). For a household vac, that’s pretty lightweight, but it’s a little on the heavier side when considering comparable handheld vacs for car cleaning.
The handle is broad and comfortable, even for people with small hands, and the power button – which resembles a trigger – is ergonomically placed just where your forefinger should be.
Like most other handsticks, though, you will need to keep your finger on the power trigger for the entire duration of your clean for the vacuum to run continuously. This can be uncomfortable for some people (people with hand and wrist injuries, for example), but for most users shouldn't be a problem at all.
(Image credit: TechRadar)Above that, there's a HEPA filter encased in blue/purple plastic, with air vents on the sides. Below the filter and air vents is the toggle switch to change suction power – there are just standard and max settings to choose from on the V8.
A large red tab on the handheld unit with a bin icon is what you’ll need to pull when the dustbin needs emptying. This was the design change that Dyson introduced with the V8 – pulling on the tab forces the cyclone part of the main unit to rise while forcing the base flap to open simultaneously. Lo and behold, dust, debris and hair fall out, with only a very thin layer of fine particles sticking to the interior of the bin.
(Image credit: TechRadar)As mentioned before, the V8 comes with a bunch of accessories, including a telescopic tube that’s perfect for general use. Every tool clips easily on and off the main handheld unit, even with one hand. The standard direct-drive head is great on pretty much any surface, but if you happen to buy the V8 Absolute, you’ll get a Soft Roller cleaning head that’s the best option for hard floors.
Using soft fibers and carbon bristles on a rotating bar, the Soft Roller is designed to glide directly over floors, and this means that if you have larger debris (like kitchen spills) that need cleaning up, they’re not scattered willy nilly. And, depending on which V8 model you opt for, you also get a low-reach adaptor that you can fit onto the end of the telescopic tube to get under couches and low tables (as pictured in the image above).
When using it as a car vac, we loved the crevice tool for getting into narrow spaces and mini motorhead tool for collecting bigger messes in the boot space.
(Image credit: TechRadar)No matter which cleaning tool you use, the V8 remains well balanced and, thanks to swivelling heads, moving the handstick along hard floors and carpets is a breeze.
Performance
- Powerful despite its age
- Up to 40 minutes battery life
- On the loud side for cordless vacs when on Max suction
Dyson has been improving suction power on its handsticks with each generation, but the V8 was the benchmark to work from. Despite having an older motor, the Dyson V8 generates as much suction power as a budget corded vacuum cleaner, particularly when on its max power setting. And compared to the cordless competition, it can give even some newer models a run for their money.
From a noise perspective though, it’s among the noisier cordless home vacuums we have tested, at 80dB on max setting and 75dB on standard. However, it does depend on what market you’re comparing it in, as those levels actually make it one of the quieter handheld car vacs. Overall, it’s unlikely to annoy you - particularly on the standard setting.
On carpets, the motorized direct-drive head does a fantastic job. It’s pretty good on hard floors as well, but if you can get the Soft Roller (or Fluffy) tool, there’s nothing like it on wood and tiles. Alternatively, you can use the mini motorized tool on hard floors, but its footprint is small, and you’ll need to go over the floor several times to finish a room. And that eats into the V8’s limited battery life.
(Image credit: TechRadar)We found it to be great at picking up both large and finer dirt in our in-car tests, using the mini motorhead tool which was a great size for most debris on carpet and upholstery. The crevice tool also worked great for getting into tighter areas, like into door bins, behind pedals and in-seat folds, and is long enough to counteract the V8’s larger body than most other handheld vacs.
Back to home use, and as with the other Dyson handsticks, the V8’s edge-cleaning prowess is pretty darn impressive. Where other budget vacuum cleaners don’t have the power or the right design to ensure dirt along skirting boards and corners get sucked up, the V8 can handle the 90-degree angle along the edges of rooms and in most corners as well. This is also helped by how well most of the cleaning heads swivel on their own axes.
Then there are the two-tier radial cyclones that push air through 15 small conical chutes to generate a significant amount of centrifugal force that can suck up very small particles. Combine that with the V8 motor spinning at 110,000rpm and a decent bin size, and you’ve got a lean, mean, sucking machine that’s likely going to be the only vacuum cleaner you’ll ever need — be that in the home, car or anything in between.
Should I buy the Dyson V8?
There’s up to 40 minutes of fade-free power available with the V8 on a single charge, and that holds true even when using the motorized cleaning tools (like the direct-drive and soft roller heads) — which is not something we were expecting.
When the battery has drained, the motor just switches off, with no reduction in suction prior to that, so you get consistent power and performance for the full 40 minutes.
On the max setting, though, the V8 lasts for much less time – you’ll get no more than seven minutes of use. This renders the Max setting good for only spot deep cleans and great for quick car cleanups, but thankfully the V8's standard setting is more than enough for most debris.
40 minutes of battery life is usually enough for an average-sized one-bedroom apartment, but if you live in a larger space, you'll need to charge the V8 again, which can take about five hours for a full top-up.
You’re after a powerful handstick vacuum cleaner
The V8 performs admirably and offers a 40-minute battery life — enough for tackling smaller homes and cars in one fell swoop.
You need a versatile cleaning appliance
Whether it’s getting rid of cobwebs from your house, getting hair off your sofa and cushions, and even giving the car interior a once-over, the V8 can handle it all.
You have the money to spare
It might be getting on in age, but the Dyson V8 is not cheap. Its performance speaks for itself but it is still comparatively more expensive than much of its competition.
Don't buy it if...
You live in a large home
With only a 40-minute runtime, you might want to consider spending extra on the Dyson V15 or opt for a cordless with better battery life if your family home is large.
You’re on a budget
It’s remarkably easy for us to recommend the V8 to most people, but if you don’t have the spare change, we’d suggest looking at other brands like Electrolux, Bissell or Shark.
You need a larger capacity dustbin
Large homes, particularly ones with wall-to-wall carpeting and pets, might find that the V8’s 0.54L bin fills up very quickly, requiring frequent emptying.

The Complete Buying Guide to Dyson Vacuums: Every Model Explained
Welcome to Brand Breakdown, a series of comprehensive yet easy-to-digest guides to your favorite companies, with insights and information you won’t find on the average About page.
There is nothing exciting about vacuuming except for the prospect of not having to vacuum for a while. Of course, there are some vacuums that get the job done faster, more efficiently and provide some added benefits in the process. And Dyson specializes in these vacuums.
Don’t know where to start? We don’t blame you, which is precisely why we made this cheat sheet to all the Dyson vacuums you can buy.
History of Dyson
James Dyson started making vacuums in the ’80s and he became so proficient at it that he later earned a knighthood from the Queen of England. His innovations are numerous — bagless emptying, cyclonic suction, swiveling heads, fade-free batteries and more — but the number pales in comparison to the massive variety of vacuums in the brand’s portfolio. Within the four greater categories — cordless, corded, handheld and canister — there are models and submodels of each style, not to mention a whole world of attachments. Words like “Animal,” “Torque Drive” and “Cinetic” pepper the marketing materials for each, cluing you in to the fact that this is far from your average cleaning appliance company.
Need to Knows
Attachments
The names of new Dyson vacuums are followed by an adjective, such as Motorhead, Animal, Absolute, Torque Drive or, in the case of the new V11, Outsize. Each one denotes a different number of “extras” that come with the vacuum. These usually take the form of detachable heads for different uses, like a narrower head for cleaning stairs, a slimmer head for fitting in tight spaces and so on. In most cases, Motorhead models come with the fewest number of attachments, while the pricier Absolute models come with the most.
Runtimes
The runtimes listed Dyson’s cordless vacuums can be deceiving. The number you see is the maximum runtime, meaning it’s how long the vacuum will run on the lowest suction setting, which isn’t indicative of how people use vacuums. It’s safe to assume you will get 20 to 30 percent less runtime off a full battery than what’s listed, as you’ll be moving between high suction and low suction fairly often.
Pricing
As new vacuums come out and old vacuums get older, prices change. Dyson vacuums are also frequently on sale through major online retailers like Amazon, Ebay, Jet and Walmart. The takeaway: the prices listed in our guide are approximations and subject to change. One thing we do know: if you want the best value for a Dyson vacuum, go with an older generation model.
Manufacturer-Refurbished
If you ever find a suspiciously low price on a Dyson vac, it’s likely a refurb. Here’s what the company has to say about its refurb program: “Our refurbished machines have been thoroughly tested to meet like-new performance standards. Units may have some cosmetic blemishes that include scratches and/or other surface imperfections, that do not affect functionality.”
Cordless Stick Vacuums
Dyson V12
- Available: Detect Slim, Detect Slim Extra, Detect Slim Absolute
- Max Battery Life: 60 minutes
- Released: 2022
Lasers make everything feel more futuristic, and Dyson's latest the V12 Detect Slim has a laser in its cleaning head that reveals dirt invisible to the naked eye, a feature that we found makes it one of the best stick vacuums you can buy. If you've ever vacuumed and felt like nothing was happening, the V12 uses a thing called an acoustic piezo sensor. The sensor turns the vibrations of dust being sucked up into electric signals, and it's measured and relayed through an LCD screen to keep track of how much crap you've vacuumed. It is one of the lightest vacuums that Dyson has to offer at only 5.2 pounds, which makes it easy to maneuver around and under furniture.
Dyson V15
Courtesy
- Available: Detect, Detect Absolute
- Max Battery Life: 60 minutes
- Released: 2021
Very similar to the V12, the V15 also employs an acoustic piezo sensor and a laser attachment that reveals hidden dirt and dust as you vacuum. The vacuum's slim laser head — meant for hard floors — is equipped with a green laser that illuminates particles as small as 10 microns, which is about the diameter of human red blood cells. The second cleaning head that comes with the V15 is the High Torque cleaner head, which works on hard floors as well as rugs and carpets. It's heavier and larger than the V12, making it better suited for heavy duty cleaning.
Dyson Omni-Glide
Courtesy
- Available: Omni-Glide
- Max Battery Life: 20 minutes
- Released: 2021
Dyson's Omni-glide was the brand's slimmest and most maneuverable stick vacuum when released a couple years ago. It has a cleaning head that swivels 360 degrees that sucks up dirt forward and backward. It was engineered for hard floors, so don't get this if your home is covered with mostly rugs and carpeting. The 4-pound vacuum quickly and easily transforms into a handheld vacuum with just a click. Easily the best part of the Omni-glide is its push-button operation. While some older Dyson models required you to constantly depress the trigger, the Omni-glide lets you power on and power off with just a touch so you can more easily vacuum without hand strain.
Dyson Outsize
- Available: Outsize+
- Max Battery Life: 120 minutes
- Released: 2020
Dyson's largest cordless vacuum, the Outsize boasts a dustbin capacity of 1. 9 liters, a whopping 120-minute runtime and it weighs about 8 pounds. The Outsize+ also comes with the same laser head attachment as the V12 and V15, making a great option for someone who wants all the benefits of the brand's latest cordless vacs but needs to cover a larger space.
Dyson V10
- Available: Animal, Absolute
- Max Battery Life: 60 minutes
- Released: 2018
The V10 marked a Rubicon-crossing moment for Dyson. Upon its release, the company declared it would no longer invest R&D into its classic upright vacuums, opting instead to push further into the world of cordless vacuums.
It was also the first of Dyson’s cordless catalog to feature the vertical dustbin, which allows you to eject vacuumed contents without putting your hands in dirt’s way. It comes with a standard fully sealed, washable, full-machine HEPA filtration system, too. The vacuum's max runtime of 60 minutes decreases significantly when you use the highest power setting, making it a better fit for those with small spaces.
Dyson V8
- Available: V8, V8 Absolute
- Max Battery Life: 40 minutes
- Released: 2016
The V8 represents the best balance of price and performance you’ll find in the Dyson catalog, which is why it tops our list of the best vacuums. It boasts plenty of suction and a full-machine, washable HEPA filter (this means you don’t have to replace the filter every few months) and it is frequently on sale. For an added layer of frugality, go for the manufacturer refurbished models, which come with a truncated warranty but are ensured by Dyson to perform up to the standards of its brand new equivalents.
Upright Vacuums
Dyson Ball Animal 3
- Available: Ball Animal 3, Complete, Extra
- Released: 2022
Dyson's latest upright vacuum model, the Ball Animal 3, boasts superior suction and hair-detangling capabilities. It has a 50-foot cord and a 1.7-liter dustbin for covering large spaces. Because it's corded, there's no limit to its runtime, making it a great option for large spaces that need deep cleaning often. The vacuum is also suited for homes with pets and the Complete and Extra versions of the upright even come with a pet grooming tool to remove loose hair before it even hits the ground.
Dyson Ball Animal 2
- Available: Ball Animal 2, Total Clean
- Released: 2017
In comparison to its successor, the Ball Animal 2 has a much shorter cord at only 30 feet and a much smaller dustbin at about 1 liter. However, it's also designed for homes with pets, and the cleaning head can adjust to different floor levels, which allows it to move seamlessly from carpet to hard wood. Plus, like the newer cordless models, you can easily empty the dustbin with one click.
Discontinued and Unsupported Products
Because Dyson is always coming out with new products and models, there's a good chance that a machine you bought a few years ago may no longer be sold — at least by Dyson. Often other retailers, like Amazon, sell older Dyson models that have been discontinued. You'll notice that Dyson currently only sells cordless stick vacuums and uprights, but there are a few handhelds and canister vacuums on this list. While you may be able to get a deal by shopping somewhere else, be sure to check Dyson's list of retired machines to make sure you're not buying a machine that you won't be able to get replacement parts for down the line.
Dyson V11
Courtesy
- Available: Torque Drive
- Max Battery Life: 60 minutes
- Released: 2019
The brand’s V11 boasted improved battery life, more suction and more space in the dustbin when it hit the market in 2019. The V11 Torque Drive has an LCD screen that displays performance and runtime, and it has three modes: auto, eco and boost.
Dyson V7
- Available: Motorhead, Absolute, Animal
- Max Battery Life: 30 minutes
- Released: 2017
Billed as a more affordable V8, the V7 packs similar suction levels, the same dirt ejection system and much of the same shape. It does not, however, come with a washable HEPA filter. Like the V8 and other older Dyson models, it’s often the subject of significant markdowns on major ecommerce sites.
Dyson V6
- Available: Motorhead, Animal, Absolute
- Max Battery Life: 20 minutes
- Released: 2015
The V6 was Dyson’s first serious attempt at a cordless vacuum that could rival upright, corded models. The V6 is almost always on sale and readily available as a manufacturer refurb, but its weak battery life can be problematic for owners who live in a big house or have tons of carpet. It features pre-motor HEPA filtration but the filter must be replaced every three to six months of consistent use.
Dyson V7 Handheld
- Available: Trigger
- Max Battery Life: 30 minutes
- Released: 2017
The Dyson V7 handheld is smaller, lighter, more powerful and more energy-efficient than its predecessors. The Trigger model is the bare bones vacuum body with a small crevice, motorized and general use attachment head.
Dyson Cinetic Big Ball
- Available: Animal
- Released: 2016
No bags, no filters that need replacing, no suction loss over time — this canister vacuum is for the person that has a lot of space that needs deep and consistent vacuuming. Think multiple large rugs and carpeted floors, not a New York City apartment. This model comes with a dustbin ejection system that doesn’t leave dirt all over your hands.

Appearance and function
The Dyson V8 series vacuum cleaner is the result of further work by the company's engineers on the design of compact cordless vacuum cleaners. The Dyson V8 shares many similarities with the previous V6 model, which we reviewed in the related article, but there are also a few significant differences, the most important of which we will list closer to the conclusion. Note that at the time of writing this text, only one complete set with a Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner was offered in Russian retail, namely the V8 Absolute, which apparently has the maximum number of accessories in the box. nine0175
The vacuum cleaner is delivered in a small stretched box made of strong corrugated cardboard. The box does not have a handle, but the outside is wrapped in a film to which you can attach a traditional adhesive tape handle without any damage to the appearance of the box itself. The design of the box is strict and informative, on the planes it is clearly told about the main advantages and features of the unit, about the methods of use, the equipment with pictures is given, and the exact weight is indicated so that the integrity of the set can be determined by weighing (5. 34 kg). A minimum amount of plastic is used for packaging, and corrugated cardboard inserts and partitions are used to protect and distribute components. The vacuum cleaner is delivered in a form almost ready for use - it only needs to be released from the packaging and dock the devices you need at the moment with the main unit. nine0175
The main parts of the housing and accessories are made of various types of plastic. Opaque structural elements are mainly made of ABS (or ABS + polycarbonate), transparent ones are made of polycarbonate (dust collector glass and brush covers, for example).
The surface of ABS parts is mirror-smooth, apparently uncoated, but small damages and scratches are invisible on them, since the plastic is not too light and not too dark, but gray (with a slight tint of brown) and slightly silver, in places with stains from filler concentration variations. The fine cyclone unit has a dark gray silver scratch-resistant finish on the outside. nine0175
The inner bowl of the large cyclone is made of finely perforated thin stainless steel sheet and the orange extension tube is made of aluminium, anodized on the outside.
A plastic liner is inserted inside the pipe, forming a smooth and even channel for the passage of air. At the ends of the pipe, you can see the connectors that connect the electric brush drives to the power source.
The transparent housing of the dust container allows you to see how full it is at a glance. The bottom of the dust collector is made reclining, for this it is enough to pull the block of cyclones up to the stop by the red handle with the image of a trash can. nine0175
The lid flips open at the end of the movement, and while the cyclone unit is moving up, the red rubber skirt cleans off debris stuck to the mesh of the inner cup. If necessary, the cyclone block can be removed completely by pressing the red lock that has become available and pulling the block further up.
After cleaning the dust box and the cyclone unit, put the cyclone unit back in, slide it down until the lock clicks, and then close the bottom of the dust box. For thorough cleaning and inspection of the condition, by disconnecting the cyclone unit, you can then disconnect the dust collector with a nozzle from the motor unit. From above, a pre-motor filter made of fibrous material is inserted into the hole surrounded by 15 minicyclones. At the end, the post-motor filter is fixed by turning. The name HEPA is not mentioned anywhere, but the manufacturer claims that this filter allows you to "capture the smallest particles, retaining allergens and bacteria as small as 0.3 microns." nine0175
When the filters become dirty, they must be washed with cold water and dried. The manufacturer recommends performing this procedure at least once a month.
The parts described constitute a five-stage filtration system. On the first, in a large cyclone, large and heavy debris is separated from the air, on the second, large and light debris (wool, fluff, etc.) is retained by a mesh on the inner glass of the dust collector, on the third, 15 small cyclones separate the smallest dust and air, the dust falls into the central part of the dust container, isolated from the outside, and the air goes to the fan through the pre-motor filter (fourth stage of filtration), which traps almost everything that managed to leak out, and finally the post-motor filter performs the final cleaning. It should be noted that all joints of detachable structural elements, pipes and nozzles, through which air passes from the surface to be cleaned to the fan, have seals made of rubber or elastic plastic, so the parasitic air suction is negligible. Reliable connection of a branch pipe with a pipe/nozzles and a pipe with nozzles is provided with clamps-latches. nine0175
The battery is located at the bottom of the handle.
This positioning of the motor, handle and battery brings the vacuum cleaner's center of gravity closer to the user's hand, reducing the amount of effort required to vacuum vertical and high objects. Actually, the vacuum cleaner itself, as well as the pipe and simple (without motors) nozzles are light, but seemingly reliable. Our measurements of the mass of the parts gave the following results:
Power/nozzle | Sound pressure level, DBA |
Normal/main brush | 64. 6 |
Maximum/main cheap | 68.0 |
Maximum/slot | 71.8 |
0175
With crevice nozzle:
At maximum power, the vacuum cleaner is relatively loud, but the main contributors are the noise from the fan motor and the noise from the movement of air, both sources do not have pronounced maxima, the noise character is even and not very annoying. When the active brush works on relatively hard surfaces, a low-frequency rumble is added, but the noise from this does not acquire unpleasant properties. Normal power mode puts the Dyson V8 in the category of vacuum cleaners with a moderate volume. nine0175
Suction power (what it is and how we measure it, described in a separate article described in a separate article) we determined when the vacuum cleaner was operating at two power levels without a pipe and nozzles. Dependences of the suction power on the vacuum created are shown in the graph below: At the last point, the damper is closed and the suction power is zero, but at the same time the vacuum cleaner goes into emergency mode - it turns on and off several times, then turns off. As a result, we did not determine the rarefaction at zero air flow. The tightness of the air system of the vacuum cleaner is very high, so there is practically no drop in suction power with increasing vacuum. In the maximum power mode in real use, the working suction power may well reach the maximum value, since in this case the air flow is more than 50% of the initial one, which means that it can still transport debris from the surface to be cleaned into the dust collector. This power (about 140 AW) is sufficient, even without the use of an active brush. In the normal power mode, the working suction power is significantly less, here the rotating brush does not exactly fit, especially in the case of wide nozzles. nine0175
The Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner does not fundamentally differ from the previously reviewed V6 model, however, a number of changes have been made to the design of the vacuum cleaner itself and nozzles that improve consumer properties. On the right is a Dyson V8, on the left is a Dyson V6, already with a slightly cloudy dust cup after several months of operation:
As a result, we believe that the previous version of the V6 is better than the new V8, only in one parameter: the V6 is 268 g lighter, while only 113g of the gain comes from the increased capacity battery. The V8 is still a light and balanced vacuum cleaner, but if you hold both models alternately in your hands, the difference in weight is instantly noticeable. When cleaning the floor, when part of the weight is distributed on the nozzle resting on the floor, extra grams are almost not felt, in contrast to cleaning horizontal surfaces, furniture with fastened small nozzles, etc., when the vacuum cleaner has to be kept on weight. Now about the benefits of V8 compared to V6:
- Opens longer than
- It works noticeably quieter
- The volume of the vacuumber
- Cyclone grid is automatically cleaned
- The disconnected cyclone block is more convenient to clean
- higher power (50 instead of 35 W) the main brush, and its bristles from the carbon fiber are kept more than
- Indicator is more informative
- Combination nozzle lock works better
- Pipe and nozzle clamps are more convenient
- Power switch ergonomics are better
- Mini electric brush is easier to clean
Note that in normal power mode, the increase in operating time is achieved both due to increased battery capacity and due to a slight decrease in suction power. Judging by the designations, the battery for the V8 is assembled from cells of the 21700 type. There are also 6 of them in the battery, but they are larger and have a higher capacity compared to the 18650 cells used in the V6.
Conclusions
Lightweight, compact and powerful, the Dyson V8 Absolute is sure to become your favorite vacuum cleaner in the home. Like all Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners, the V8 has a motor that can snap the suction tube into.
Power supply
Power supply has trigger similar to a pistol. Need to press and hold the trigger to vacuum .
Dyson is confident that this significantly increases the battery life of the . Of course, because you only activate the cordless vacuum cleaner when you actually use it.
The motor block also includes a dirt container, a motor, a HEPA filter and a switch for adjusting suction levels.
Various connection options allow you to convert from cordless to handheld, a practical 2 in 1 function.
Weight and size Dyson V8 our review

Accessories - what is included in the Dyson V8 Absolute package?
The more accessories, the better?
We at Smart-Home-Fox believe: Not necessarily. Many manufacturers put countless useless attachments in their cordless vacuum cleaners to stand out from the competition. Things that no one needs and that we, the customers, should keep at home. nine0175
This does not apply to Dyson V8 Absolute . Each accessory has its own rationale and its own specific application .
Dyson V8 Absolute Kit
Which suction attachment for what?
Standard electric brush
You can use the standard vacuum brush on both hard and soft surfaces. It has a width of 25 cm.
Soft roller
Particularly suitable for sucking up dirt from hard floors such as laminate or parquet. nine0175
Combination Accessory Nozzle
This is a useful accessory that you can use to vacuum items. Use the soft bristles on sensitive surfaces, and if you want to work a little harder, you can retract the bristles back at the push of a button.
Crevice tool
The crevice tool never goes out of style when it comes to vacuum cleaner accessories. With it, you can get into narrow gaps where no other brush can get. Ideal for vacuuming in the car or between upholstery. nine0175
Wall mount
It is very useful to store the vacuum cleaner on the wall to save space and charge it at the same time.
Mini Electric Brush
This is a real advantage if you want to vacuum pet hair off your upholstery.
Extra soft brush
Suitable for removing dust from furniture and sensitive surfaces.
Which Dyson V8 should I get?
When the V8 was released, there were many different variants: V8 "Absolute", "Motorhead", "Fluffy", etc. , etc. nine0175
Models differ mainly in accessories.
Today you can only buy two different V8 models from the manufacturer:
What makes them different is one single nozzle.
While the Dyson V8 Absolute has a super soft brush, the Total Clean comes with a flexible hose.
So the choice between soft brush and flexible hose is decide which cordless vacuum cleaner you will buy. A matter of taste!

Dyson V8 Absolute cleaning test - our review
We have standardized our testing procedure to evaluate suction power.
One by one, we spread the same amount of sand, lentils and oatmeal on different floors and surfaces and then vacuum them to the highest standard.
After our cleaning test with Dyson V8 Absolute we can say that is the result of an impressive .
The test revealed its strengths and weaknesses, but the cordless vacuum cleaner was definitely ahead of its time.
Dyson V8 Absolute Hard Floor Cleaning Test
Dyson V8 absorbs sand and oatmeal well on hard floors. At first he pushes the oatmeal in front of him, however, in the end, he collects it.
But the Dyson V8 could only absorb 80% of the lentils. We chalk it up to the too narrow slot on the standard brush. This means that the vacuum cleaner will not be able to completely pick up coarse or accumulated dirt. nine0175
Tip : If you use the supplied soft brush (instead of the standard electric brush), the result looks much better.
In this way, those who do not want to change the brush often can clean the floor with a soft brush without any problems. Thanks to her, the dirt is first pressed, and then it is quite easy to collect.
Dyson V8 Absolute cleaning test on short pile carpet
Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner actually had no problems on short pile carpet - result 97% of all types of dirt.
Dyson V8 Absolute cleaning test on longer pile carpet
On soft carpet, the Dyson V8 scored quite a bit. And again the result is 97%.
Thus , when cleaning the Dyson V8 in its entirety, achieved very good results in testing.
How does the V8 clean the apartment?
In daily testing, the cordless vacuum cleaner also performs well . We managed to pick up the dirt scattered on the carpets and floors without any problems.

How is cleaning with Dyson V8 our review.
Powerful suction is required to achieve good cleaning results. Various factors affect how good or bad the cleaning results of a cordless vacuum cleaner are.
Standard electric brush or soft roller?
Thanks to the own drive of the standard brush The roller rotates independently and transports the dirt lying around at high speed into the suction tube. It perfectly maintains the suction power.
However, what was striking in our test was that the V8 achieves much better cleaning results when using the soft brush on hard floors and the standard brush on soft floors . The disadvantage is clear: you have to change the brush.
Dyson V8 as handheld vacuum cleaner
You can quickly and easily convert a Dyson V8 into a handheld vacuum cleaner. With the right nozzle, you can vacuum anywhere you can't reach with a regular vacuum cleaner.
In addition, you can connect each nozzle to both the power supply and the suction pipe.
Take the suction pipe plus the crevice nozzle as an example: they can be used to easily remove cobwebs from the corners of the ceiling.
How many suction stages does the Dyson V8 have? nine0008
V8 has two suction stages .
Normal duty has enough power to get the through most dirt.
When there is a lot of dirt, you can switch to turbo mode at the touch of a button and you will be fine. Of course, in turbo mode, the battery life is much shorter.

How easy is the Dyson V8 to use?
Commissioning
It all starts with the unpacking of a new device.
Dyson makes sure there is less than plastic in the package. It's good for the environment and practical.
Commissioning is simple and clear . It takes about 5 hours to fully charge the battery. Then simply connect the appropriate attachments and you are ready to go.
Battery life - How long can I vacuum with the Dyson V8?
When the Dyson V8 came out, the battery life was the maximum - about 40 minutes in normal mode. With today's new devices, a few years after V8 came out, 40 minutes should be the bare minimum.
However, 40 minutes is enough to clean most homes.
In turbo mode you can vacuum for 7 minutes , however, turbo mode is not necessary if the apartment is not very dirty.
Of course, the duration also depends on the attachments used.
Suction mode | Battery power |
Normal | about 40 minutes |
Turbo | approximately 7 minutes |
Loudness - how loud the Dyson V8 Absolute is
One can definitely say about the operation of the vacuum cleaner: the quieter the better.
How loud the Dyson V8 Absolute is, we measured in our test.
Measuring 72 dB, the Dyson V8 Absolute is in the acceptable range. Thus, Dyson V8 belongs to the quietest cordless vacuum cleaners.
Agility
Agility is one of the hallmarks of the Dyson V8 . The light weight combined with the various brushes makes the easy to maneuver around the house.
In particular, the hinge on the brush makes it easy to vacuum around furniture and objects. nine0175

Maintenance of the Dyson V8 Absolute - review
In our test, we found that with the Dyson V8 you have to do four things regularly:
Emptying the mud container
There are lever. When you pull it out, the dust container opens and dirt falls into the bin (which is underneath).
It works well and the mechanism is very stable. However, the 0.5 liter dirt container is somewhat smaller than its successors.
Emptying the dirt container
A small red lever on the bottom of the dust container allows you to completely remove the container from the motor unit . You can then keep it under running water for cleaning. nine0175
Cleaning the HEPA filter
The HEPA filter is used to clean the air from fine dust . This is especially good for allergy sufferers . In addition, the filters work extremely long, i.e. there are no additional costs.
However, the filter should be cleaned from time to time. To do this, you can simply pull it out of the motor unit, then tap it or even wash it.
Another filter is located at the rear. You can also just unscrew it and clean it. nine0175
Caution : The filter must dry for 24 hours before it can be reinstalled.
Cleaning the brushes
Sometimes thread or hair gets wrapped around the brush. This reduces the suction power.
Therefore, it is worth cleaning the brushes from time to time. To do this, you can open the side compartment of the brush and pull out the roller. All you need is a coin or something. With a sharp knife, you can remove hair from the roller.
Battery maintenance
If the battery has become weak or has lost its power completely, the vacuum cleaner should not be thrown away. The battery can simply be ordered and replaced.
Here, of course, a simple click system would be desirable, as the new Dyson V11 showed in the test.

Conclusions. Value for Money Review - Is the Dyson V8 a Good Investment?
Dyson V8 has many strengths : it has a very good suction power and well thought out accessories . The design is chic and the workmanship is good . At one time, it was a real revolution in the market for cordless vacuum cleaners.
However, from today's point of view, there are also some weaknesses . Our review, for example, showed that the did not perform well with coarse dirt on the 's hard floors, and the 's battery performance is also not quite up to modern standards. nine0476
But the combined benefits make an excellent result . Dyson V8 The is a good bargain and you get a powerful cordless vacuum cleaner that is better than many competing products.
But if you're looking for excellence and want to be at the forefront of technology, you'll have to look a little deeper into your wallet. One of the new models might interest you. For example, we tested Dyson V10 and Dyson V11.
