Dyson increased its turnover by 28%

The manufacturer summed up the results of the year.

The company's turnover increased by 28% to £4.4 billion. Profit rose 33% to £1.1bn. Investments in technology are increasing and global demand for the company's products is growing.

“In 2018, the majority of Dyson's investment was in the UK market. But it must be said that the volume of investment in technology has been expanded around the world, in particular in Singapore, in response to the strong demand for Dyson products in Asia. Discerning customers around the world demand powerful and efficient devices, so we are intensifying investments in manufacturing and technology to meet the interests of consumers. We have about half of the staff made up of engineers and scientists, which is not typical for our business area, and in 2019In the coming year, we will continue to develop our key technologies that will enable us to develop the products of the future. In parallel, we are actively expanding our automotive business and Dyson is investing in technologies that will shape our future,” commented Jim Rowan, CEO of Dyson

The number of engineers and scientists in the international research and development department has grown to 5853 people. New products drive sales growth worldwide: Dyson launches new products in six categories, in all cases investments in key technologies have played an important role. The Dyson Airwrap™ Styler, launched in October 2018, has become one of Dyson's fastest selling products. A new purification technology has solved the problem of indoor air quality, which is a growing concern in society. Customers appreciate the new generation of Dyson vacuum cleaners, equipped with the latest Dyson batteries and digital motors.

Dyson Institute of Technology welcomed the second wave of engineering students to the Malmesbury campus. The share of investment in higher education in the UK is still £31m. The competition for the 2018 stream was one of the highest among engineering universities in the UK, with 40% of seats going to girls - compared to an average of 15.1% for engineering majors in the country. The Malmesbury campus has been completed to house residences for an ever-growing community of future engineers, and in 2019it is planned to allocate additional funds for the development of the town. The new space, called Roundhouse, will open in early 2019. It will have a cafe, cinema and study rooms. Investments in the field of healthy lifestyle of students are also planned, including the construction of a swimming pool.

Investments in new technologies have allowed the company to achieve a record turnover of 1.7 billion pounds.

Increasing demand for cutting-edge cordless vacuum cleaners and expanding product range in the HVAC segment gave a strong impetus to the growth of the company's business in 2015 around the world. An important role in improving global performance was played by the rise in sales of air purifiers and humidifiers in Asian countries.

Dyson plans to invest £5 million a week in research and development in 2016. In addition, the company will allocate £100 million for external investment in R&D over the next three years. To date, 40 Dyson products are under development and the company is implementing 50 research programs in collaboration with 20 universities.

The first module of the Dyson Research Campus will open in Malmesbury in 2016. The company's £250 million investment in R&D expansion at the company's headquarters and £1.5 billion in technology research have made this project a reality. As a result, this investment will double Dyson's R&D base in the UK.

James Dyson, founder of the company, comments: “By increasing our investment in technology and expanding our research and development base, we are enabling the development of more efficient devices that take us to new levels of development. Technology

In 2015, Dyson launched 17 new products in 5 categories and sold 10 million units worldwide.

Smart Technology - The Dyson 360 Eye Robot Vacuum Cleaner went on sale in Japan in 2015. After successful testing of the trial version of the product, it will be available in some global markets in the summer of 2016.

Since 2005, Dyson engineers have partnered with Imperial College London and Professor Andrew Davison, a world-renowned scientist. During this collaboration, the company has invested £25 million in developments that help robots "see" and "understand" the world around them.

Key technology - Sales of cordless vacuum cleaners increased by 66% worldwide in 2015, making Dyson now a quarter of the global market in this category. This growth is underpinned by continued investment in key technology – digitally controlled motors and batteries:

HVAC — The company's performance in this line of business rose 35% on the back of exceptionally strong demand in Asia. In particular, the Dyson AM10 humidifier holds the palm in the Chinese humidifier market.

Enterprise Products - Position in this area was strengthened by the merger with Jake Dyson's lighting company Jake Dyson Lighting. New products in this category, scheduled to hit the market in 2016, will expand the combined technology portfolio.

Charitable contributions

The James Dyson Foundation, through its founder, has made a number of charitable contributions of £55 million.
