Non-Repeating Mural Wallpaper

When your formal dining room is also your everyday dining area, invest in pieces that deliver both form and function. In this Studio DB-designed space, the built-in velvet banquette is cozy and comfortable, but it also looks dressy.

The same is true for those beautiful chairs from the Socialite Family and artful light fixture from Ladies and Gentlemen Studio. And unusual lighting and beautiful wallpaper are easy ways to add character without taking up surface space. It doesn't get more regal than a de Gournay wallpaper—non-repeating patterns and murals create so much movement and intrigue.

Cheeky and Bright Wallpaper

Tema e Variazioni by Fornasetti livens up this small dining space designed by Jeff Andrews. "After moving in, I realized how much I loved the classic architecture," he says—which is why he decided now to expand the kitchen into the breakfast nook. It's both a classic and youthful, cheeky and polished, thanks to the bright minty green hue with that iconic portrait.

Graphic and Playful Wallpaper

Designed by Studio DB, the modern zig-zagging wallpaper makes this built-in booth pop while also separating it from the rest of the kitchen space for a more intimate and formal feel. Without a doubt, that modern, sharp-angled print is what gives this dining room its dazzle (thought the tree trunk table and sputnik pendant don't hurt).

Romantic and Old-World-Inspired Wallpaper

Romance and fantasy rule in this dining room designed by the legendary Else de Wolfe. For a similarly robust feel with plenty of depth, extend your wallpaper (or fabric wallcovering, as shown here) into the third dimension with matching curtains and a fabric upholstery trim right at the top of the wall. The floral chandelier, blush-toned linens, and antique gilt framed artwork bring this fanciful room to life—and prove its timelessness.

Fearless and Modern Wallpaper

With a super large-scale print that looks more like a work of art than your everyday wallpaper, this dining room designed by Regan Baker Design is a force to be reckoned with. Because the deep greens and gold swirls emit an intensity and formality perfect for entertaining, Baker chose more casual furniture to ground the space as family-friendly and approachable.

Light-hearted and Classic Wallpaper

Designer Christopher Maya painted the floors in the breakfast room of a 1930s home with an octagonal honeycomb pattern. The bold color and eye-catching graphic print makes a modern statement in this otherwise traditional dining room.

A chocolate brown and sky blue color scheme grounds the space while the pale cream, pink, and blue floral curtains and wallpaper spread a lightheaded energy throughout the room. The wallpaper and curtains are a custom Tree of Life pattern from the Christopher Maya collection.

Texture-Rich Wallpaper

What could have been an awkward eyesore becomes the striking focal point in this little dining nook and workspace designed by 2LG Studio. That's thanks to the texture-rich wallpaper, which features a digitized collage of torn paper. Stretching from floor to the arch of the ceiling, it doubles as artwork and sets the color scheme for the rest of the room.

Moral of the story? Weird architectural quirks and small spaces can actually be quite beautiful when covered with an eye-catching wallpaper.

Abstract Wallpaper

Choose something graphic and fun in a family-friendly dining room and don't be afraid to mix and match prints throughout the space. Modern Repeating Floral Wallpaper

Florals don't have to be super dainty, nor ornate, nor stuffy. Take this dining room designed by Joe Lucas, for example. Before renovation, the dining room felt like a passageway to the kitchen, so Lucas made it feel more like a destination— and room of its own—with a bold wall covering. "The previously white space was transformed with wallpaper," he explains.

Who says beige is boring? Cover half the dining room wall with a neutral wallpaper to offset the white paint and introduce texture without drowning the space in a loud color or print. This dining room designed by Amber Interiors is a great place to look for inspiration, where the layers of textiles and modern lighting steal the show.

Scandinavian-inspired Floral Wallpaper

The founder of Apartment Therapy's dining room is a piece of Scandinavia in the Hamptons. Inspired by Host restaurant in Copenhagen, Maxwell Ryan wanted warm and minimal Hans Wagner dining chairs. The matte pendant lights, sheepskin throws, and blond wood furniture soften things up (literally) and ground the space. It's where Ryan "reads and stays up late dining into the night" after meals.

Interior accent wall: useful decorating tips

House in Tangier, designed by Cassandra Karinsky. In tourist booklets, Moroccan Tangier is called the "white city". It is in this color that the locals have been painting the walls of their houses for centuries. Without disturbing the harmony, the designer diluted it with dark blue — one of the walls in the living room is painted in this color. A blue sofa is matched to her tone.

Ideal for small spaces

Wall painted in a contrasting color, perfect for small spaces. This technique will allow you to beat a cramped room, especially if you use a deep saturated shade. Painting one of the walls in a small room a rich dark color (or black) will create visual depth in the interior, making the space appear larger.

Lots of styles

You have several options for this fashion trend. In addition to paint and wallpaper, there are ways to play not only with color, but also with texture. For example, using panels that mimic brickwork or wood. You can drape the wall with a cloth or lay it out with tiles or mosaics. For a children's room, an interesting option would be a wall painted with slate paint. A child can boldly paint and paint such a wall with colored crayons, without fear of incurring the wrath of their parents.

A way to divide space

Apartment of Patrick and Laurence Chavannes in Lyon. Its interior is built on panoramic wallpaper, including the interior of the owner's eldest daughter's room. Now it is decorated with wallpapers with the image of New York. What will be on this wall in a couple of years is unknown. The interior of the room changes as often as the tastes of the maturing hostess.

Contrasting one or more walls in a room is a great way to divide up a space. For example, an open living room can be easily divided into zones (living room, dining room, study, etc.) if you use different wallpapers or paint colors for wall decor. At your request, one space will turn into two, or even more.

The main accent of the interior

When planning your interior, keep in mind that the accent wall is the very first thing everyone will see when they enter the room. This is the focal point that will stand out and distract attention from everything else. To make the interior look more harmonious and balanced, it should have two or more accents. Therefore, to “support” the accent wall, it is better to choose pieces of furniture or accessories that match in color.

The right choice of color

The wrong accent wall color can ruin a space. To avoid this, give up random shades, even if the color itself is bright and you really like it. A red wall in a pastel interior is too much! The color palette of your home should be unified and clearly planned. Therefore, choose a color for a contrasting wall based on the overall range of the interior, including furniture, finishing materials and textiles.

Change the accents

It is not necessary to build an interior around an accent wall. Art objects will give originality to the interior. Instead of papering or painting one wall, choose art pieces that match the style and mood of your home decor. Framed photos or paintings that you like and are in tune with the overall style of the interior are what will give your home a personality, creating a memorable image.

7 ideas for an accent wall in the living room on a small budget

An accent wall is a trick that designers often use to transform a boring, monotonous interior. You can arrange it in different ways. The easiest and most common way is to paste over one wall with photo wallpaper. The design method was used back in the 80s of the last century. Now there are no less interesting options.

Companion wallpaper

The most economical option for accent decoration is to buy wallpaper with an interesting pattern. The selected finish should look harmonious next to the rest of the walls. A canvas with an ornament looks favorably next to a monochrome plane.

Wallpaper with a pattern can be applied to only part of the surface or the entire wall.

Painting in contrasting colors

The surface above the head of the bed, sofa can be painted in a lighter or, conversely, darker tone compared to the rest of the room. Contrasting colors can also be used to draw attention to a specific area of the interior.

Color combinations look beautiful:

  • dark gray with white and milky;
  • milky brown;
  • olive ash pink.

There are many such combinations, but it is important that they fit well into the interior.

Group of pictures

Can be hung on a colored wall:

  • family photos;
  • paintings;
  • tapestry.

It is important that the images are united by a common idea or color.

Several paintings can form a single, whole image. They are called modular.

Arches and bay windows

Niches in the wall can be of different shapes and sizes. These architectural elements are distinguished by color, texture, frames.

There are sofas and flower stands inside the niche.

Arch with shelves or sconces will attract attention and beautifully decorate the wall.

Drawing

Walls are painted with acrylic paints on plaster, drywall. To decorate a wall with a picture, you need to have the ability and knowledge, and the work of the artist is expensive.

You can do it easier. Geometric compositions are in fashion. Such pictures are available on the Internet. It remains to find a suitable sample, draw geometric shapes and color the composition.

Textured finish

The finish looks beautiful if the wall is lined with decorative brick, wild stone.

Textured material is used to veneer a plane completely or a separate section.

Panel

The surface lined with multicolored stone looks interesting. These options are budget friendly. A decorative mosaic will cost much more. Instead of glass pieces, they use pieces of old postcards, painted bottle caps.
