Interior Glass Shades
This cozy bedroom by Anna Spiro Design is a masterclass in eclectic decorating. Though there's plenty of pattern mixing going on, from the plaid armchair to the floral motif headboard, it feels cohesive and thoughtful. That's partially thanks to the consistent color scheme and Roman shades treatments, which are installed on the windows and interior door windows. Design consistency aside, this also ensures total privacy.

Stained Glass
Stained glass is so much more than good-looking (though those colorful shadows it casts are certainly welcome). It also works hard! Reath Design blocked a view of the driveway and enhanced street-level privacy by replacing glass panes with colorfully painted ones. This is a great option when you want to introduce color and obstruct a view without blocking all the natural light.

Sheer White Curtains
If you're lacking on windows, choose sheer panels for maximum light. They will help keep the room from feeling too closed off. In this space designed by 2LG Studio, the curtains stretch all the way up to the ceiling.

Hanging Art
Designer Krystal Matthews has tons of clever decorating tips up her sleeve. In this home office, she created depth and character by hanging two pieces of artwork right over the back window since there was nowhere else to install wall decor. But aside from looking good, they also help block a less than scenic view.

Cohesive Patterns
"It goes against decorating 101, but using small patterns together can be easier on the eye," says interior decorator Kristin Panitch, who designed this dreamy pink cloud of a bedroom. The matchy-matchy wallpaper, curtains, bedding, and headboard create a gorgeous backdrop for a good night sleep while the colorful throw pillows add just enough contrast.

Match your wallpaper and curtains for a fully enveloped aesthetic. In this attic sanctuary designed by Mally Skok, the vibrant and warm tones of the printed wallpaper and fabric curtains make everything feel rosy. Awning and Shutters
Don't neglect your exteriors. Designed by tropical decor maven Amanda Lindroth, this window is treated with shutters and an orange striped awning matching the bench beneath it. Though most hurricane shutters are just for looks these days, make sure yours at least look functional by taking proper measurements so that they look like they can close over the window evenly.

Bare
Some rooms can actually be better off without any window treatments at all. This is especially true in a modern kitchen, where any and all additional task lighting is welcome, and fabrics that run the risk of fading from sunlight are minimal or nonexistent. In this bright and airy California kitchen by Romanek Design Studio, the serving windows look beautiful (and more functional) left bare.

Fancy Frames
Color stretches all the way up to the rafters in this living room designed by Thomas Jayne and William Cullum. We love how they chose to frame the windows with a gorgeous drapery that draws your eye up and doesn't encroach into the space too much. All together, the room feels traditional and formal but still country chic and casual.

Folding Screen
A folding screen is one of the most useful decorative items you can buy. It can add architectural dimension, color and pattern, and function as a window treatment without even requiring you to hang anything or reach for your toolkit. Place it strategically, and next thing you know, you have yourself a makeshift window treatment.

Window treatments for every room in the house
From window blinds to curtains and drapes, find everything you need to alter the mood and filter or block light—including the curtain rods and rails to hang them on.
Let the light shine and enjoy the design of your living room windows with sheer curtains or light filtering curtains that also afford some privacy. Or change the mood dramatically in your bedroom or den with room darkening curtains or blackout curtains to help you sleep or create the right atmosphere for movie night. You can create a balanced window treatment solution by combining lace curtains with heavier drapes.
You can also choose the clean, modern look of fabric panel curtains for your windows. Panel curtains are also great as room dividers in a studio or a house with an open floor plan. Use them as “doors” for wardrobes or other storage solutions. Choose the pleated look of fabric blinds and shades—including motorized blinds that say “hey, don’t get up” as they operate according to voice command, wireless remote control or a preset timer.
And choose from a diverse set of options for hanging your window blinds, curtains and drapes. Find the right curtain rods, curtain wires or curtain tracks systems to help you dramatically change any room in the house.
Decide how much light comes in without sacrificing privacy or style
From stylish 100% cotton light filtering curtains that have the charming look of elegant table linen to sheer curtains that have the airy feel of lace, there are a lot of options that help you express your style while altering the mood and feel of a room. Choose lighter options in curtains and drapes to enjoy the expression of bay windows or other stunning window designs while enjoying the privacy they afford.
Besides significantly darkening a room while cutting down on glare and preventing anyone from seeing in, room darkening curtains add a warm comforting feel—including options in thick cotton velvet that dampen sound while adding a sense of luxury. While these curtains decrease thermal exchange at your windows, blackout cellular blinds take keeping your home or apartment cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter to another level. And since they’re available in a wide variety of colors and styles, these blackout curtains are ready to light up a room while ensuring you can get some shuteye at any time of day. Close blackout drapes when you want privacy or just want to cut out glare completely. When using a double curtain rod, open thick drapes to let the sun gently filter through lighter curtains.
Frequently asked questions about window treatments?
What kind of window treatments are in style?
With style thankfully being subjective, rest assured that IKEA window treatments are available in a variety of fabrics, colors and patterns ready to help you wow from inside and outside of the house. Add the ability to choose different options for hanging shades, blinds and window treatments—along with smart ways to combine them—and expressing your sense of style is easy.
How to best cover my window for privacy?
That depends on how much privacy and natural light you want. While sheer curtains allow you to enjoy the day by letting in lots of light, they can be a bit transparent. From there, light filtering curtains offer more privacy while room darkening and blackout curtains prevent even a slightest hint of a view inside. Match the type of blinds or drapes you want for the level of privacy you wish to achieve. From there, simply make sure the curtain rod or curtain wire extends past the window frame along with the fabric you choose.
How to let light in but keep my privacy?
Choose light filtering or sheer curtains that allow light in while offering privacy. You can also choose stackable panel curtains that filter light. Hang them on a track system and stack them together when you want more privacy. Light will still filter through to create a mood while you enjoy the intimate feel of the room.
Window dressing in the Same House of Fabrics on Leninsky
Today we want to tell you about an interesting project that was completed in March 2014.
We managed to decorate several windows in a well-known fabric store on Leninsky Prospekt. Fabric House has been known since 1952 for the highest quality of fabrics and services. From generation to generation, the choice of fabric at the Fabric House has been highly appreciated by consumers. The Same House of Fabric is a Brand established by experience for over 50 years. We were honored to be a part of this project! That is why the main advantage of the fabric house became the concept of window dressing transformation - it is a huge selection of different fabrics in terms of texture, cost and color. Once inside the store, it is impossible to leave without shopping. I want to buy and change all the curtains in the store at once, sew myself a new suit or dress, and also make a canopy over the bed from flowing light tulle or tulle. We are interested in this project for two reasons: design shows and come up with incredible scenarios for quests at children's parties. Very soon we will create a new website with a new name, where we will collect an already updated portfolio, and Wedding Paradise will exist as a separate direction within our big new empire for designing and organizing stylish events. 2) fabrics - this is what we are well versed in, what we use quite often to decorate any event - this is primarily stylish textiles for decorating guest tables and the space of the bride and groom, these can be tablecloths, napkins , naperons and chevrons on tables, decor for chairs and hall space and much, much more. So, on spacious showcases, it was decided to make a magical fairy-tale world and a House where only fabric lives. At the heart of the interiors of the kitchen, dining room, living room, nursery, bedroom and garden, only in a fabulous, not quite standard interpretation. There should have been a lot of fabrics everywhere, the center of the exposition is, of course, curtain draperies, plus we tried to use all possible types of fabrics in the design. The showcase space was perfect for us to turn around and make the most of it. We started with a garden in our magical Fabric House. We invite you to sit back and immerse yourself in a small but incredible story created by the Wedding Paradise team. GARDEN The center of the composition was a magic tree, from the branches of which, like a miracle tree from Chukovsky's work, various decorative interior items and gizmos hung. Later, most of these small decorative pieces can be seen in a large version on some showcases. Such was the idea. There is a table with chairs, a lantern with an orange light made of fabric, a bed with brocade decoration, small windows with curtains, flowers made of fabric, a bird made of feathers and other details. Since this is a garden, it was decided to recreate a wall of delicate flowers 5 meters high, which we made from flowing organza, smoothly changing color from soft cream to lavender (peach, pink, fuchsia, etc.). Mesh tulle has become the main background in the showcase of the Garden. Juicy green grass made of silky satin of two color shades framed the side wall in an unusual way, plus went to the floor in its usual place, below, at the roots of the trees, there were two bunnies made of woolen fabric and with pompoms made of yarn.
CLOSET The closet in the House of Fabrics has become our prototype of Pinocchio's closet with cobwebs, bats, an old barrel and a ladder with unnecessary gizmos. Instead of tulle, a light green mesh fabric with a light ice highlight for a more magical effect, a swamp-colored curtain with a metallic sheen on one side, combined with a noble champagne-colored linen and a light translucent coffee-beige flowing organza with a floral print on the other. An unusually eye-catching element of decor is a huge handmade pumpkin made of rich coral velvet. The barrel with the famous sewing machine, heavy chic brushes and bats that we made ourselves out of origami paper and that hung from the ceiling and from the stairs, as all flying animals should, all this perfectly complemented and completed our stylish fairy tale. CHILDREN'S In the center of the plot of creating the interior of the nursery is the famous fairy tale about the princess and the pea. There we built a high bed with a lace canopy made of guipure and with featherbeds made of fabrics of different textures and colors, mostly cotton. Especially for the nursery, we sewed a green velvet pea. Lace light green guipure was chosen as tulle and lavender curtains were hung. Here, too, there were some nice decorative little things and details. The nursery was decorated with humpbacked wooden skates, a wooden moon with lights, built by us from planks and supporting the theme of good sweet dreams, strings of pearl beads and other nice little things.
BEDROOM The interior of the bedroom was made based on oriental fairy tales 1001 Nights. We chose a bright, non-standard, catchy color combination - a play of plum, orange and blue. Inside the bedroom, you can’t do without a big beautiful bed, and therefore its role was played by an oak headboard, from which a rich orange-gold taffeta fell. Nearby there was a table on which there was a tablecloth with copper bottles as vases, where, in turn, peacock feathers flaunted as an element of decor. In addition, unique accents that add chic and luxury to our oriental interior are drapery under the ceiling, jewels in chests and beautiful fabrics, hookah, pillows in bright colors and mustard-colored curtains.
LIVING ROOM The spirit of a romantic European town inspired us to create an interior for the living room. A calm and restrained color palette is combined with bright fuchsia accents in the form of small pillows on the ground and in the air. Urban motifs and the style of the living room were supported by a floor lamp in the form of a lamppost and a sofa draped in satin. In the corner of the living room there was a table, decorated with a very beautiful dark gray tablecloth with a pattern, smoothly passing down to the floor. A tree of crystal beads on the table complemented the overall style and gave elegance.
DINING ROOM Through the living room, guests immediately find themselves in a magical forest, where our dining room with chic decoration is located. Everywhere decor from forest branches with handmade chiffon delicate peach flowers. Everything is ready for the arrival of guests on the table, serving for two is done, in the center there is a composition for decorating the table, dishes, glasses, tablecloth and napkins made of emerald-turquoise satin. Mint-colored curtains with a light tone-on-tone tulle served as a backdrop. On the table in the center we put the composition in a vase with branches and flowers. The same tablecloth falls down from the table in waves: in addition, saw cuts with mystically flowing wax from candles, which seem to have only recently been extinguished, flaunt there. A chandelier made of branches and lights attracts all attention. On the oak-colored wooden chairs, we made elegant covers in the style of long peacock tails from dove-wing-colored fabric.
KITCHEN The prototype of the kitchen was the magical interior from the famous Disney movie "Beauty and the Beast". We made it in blue and copper tones with magical, talking utensils, here are cups with a teapot, beautiful serving spoons / ladles / knives and forks, a fancy jug and even a couple of saucepans. For the main drapery, we used a very beautiful curtain fabric with a pattern of beige and dark blue. There were no brushes either. The fabric also served here as water, which flowed from the pan. Beautiful dark chocolate tulle with turquoise embroidery adorned the rack and the items on it. And now a small bonus for those who have read to the end or watched it))) and mastered it! A little behind the scenes - HOW we created, photos of the process itself, backstage. We did most of the work at a height of 5 meters and in 30-degree frost, it was even colder in the windows. We made the wall of flowers for three days, then for another day we adjusted and completed the showcase in a vertical state on the wall. In addition, we have mastered the drill! Here are some photos of the process, as well as photos from the "before and after" section. Enjoy, and we will keep these moments in memory. This is how our work looks on all the windows of the store of the Same House of Fabric! Creating our magical world in the showcases of the House of Fabrics, we did not experience difficulties in selecting fabrics, the choice was easy and the variety of textiles in terms of texture, color, patterns and quality awakened our imagination. Thanks to our talented photographer Katyusha for the panoramic shots of shop windows. We also thank Tatiana Zhishko for providing photographs of all the details of the showcase interiors. |

Showcase "Salamander" winter 2018For the winter window dressing of the Salamander chain of stores, Kovtundesign studio conceived a white-orange story with snow branches, oranges and squirrels, our summer baskets with mushrooms also came in handy, they were sprinkled with freshly fallen artificial snow and Christmas tree decorations. Display decor - examplesThe variety of window decor made by us allows decorators, window dressers, visual merchandisers and owners of shops and salons to realize almost any desires and ideas. We will finalize the idea, offer options and make decor. We have decorated and installed dozens of showcases. Decor made of metal, wood, plastic, paper, textiles, beads and other materials can be seen in shop windows throughout Russia. The traditional and innovative approach in the design of shops, restaurants and salons is quite within the power of our craftsmen and decorators.
Display decor installationThe showcase is always open to visitors, is a subject of interest and should attract attention. The deadlines in which window dressing is required do not always have a sufficient margin of time. More often they are compressed to the limit, so most of the installation work of window decor, design work has to be carried out during the time free from visiting customers - at night. To do this, before proceeding with the installation of display and retail equipment, all decisions in the design project are carefully thought out: product layouts, placement of retail equipment and decorative art objects participating in the art composition ensemble on the store window. As a result, the shop window is always ready to present the subject of your sales on time and in the most attractive way. |
Ribbon panel on showcaseRibbons of 4 shades from pink to ivory were chosen for this project. 3 frames with a height of about 4 x meters were tightened into a dense frame of tapes every 2 cm, located in a gradient.
Salamander chain of stores 2019 with decorated windowsThe next spring-summer season exploded with bright colors and showcases of the Salamander chain. The joint creativity of window dressing with the Kovtundesing studio was embodied in bright and colorful shop windows throughout Russia. Volumetric giant grotesque flowers attract the eyes of passers-by, raising the spirits of adults and children. Children are our most grateful audience! They are especially interested in looking at the scenery, trying to stay longer, looking at huge figures and butterflies.
Clothing store design from showcase onwardsThe magnificent salon of women's clothing from Russian designer Alexandra Vanyushina has been updated this year. In this project from Kovtundesign, we made drawings and developed furniture, selected materials for cabinet furniture.
Application of POS materials in showcasesThe use of advertising banners or posters in a shop window opens up additional opportunities for window dressing. Present not one brand, for example, but several. But the power of printed materials placed by designers in the window is also in displaying the intended plot in a smaller amount of space, emphasizing the detail of the goods. For example, show a small detail of shoes or clothes close-up. Or vice versa to present a large and heavy object in a smaller space - let's say that for car tire advertisements, it is required to present the view of one or more cars. There is no better solution than a poster in this case. Decorators and window dressers know this very well and use this technique. Posters on paper are not the only material; self-adhesive film of different colors is widely used, which is easy to process, from which neat graphic applications are obtained, indispensable for a small amount of shop window space. |
Decoration of the shop window of the jewelry store "Sadovoy" on Nikolskaya streetFor the Sadovoy jewelry brand near Red Square, together with Kovtundesing.com, we made a metal Firebird with a long, curving tail. The composition is complemented by gems and a crown made of the same material. The moving mannequin was dressed up in a new sundress from our craftswomen, as well as beads and earrings. POS-materials were used, the shop logo was placed on the windows of the showcase.
C&CMilano - crystal display caseFor the C&CMilano flagship store at LottePlaza, delicate crystal curtains were installed in the window. The inscription "New Collection" was used as a POS-material on the showcase. Crystal curtains are made in the form of crystal rain. Reflecting, the light of the shop window plays in each bead with crystal notes, as if in drops of real rain. The bewitching effect is achieved by special spraying on the edges of the beads.
Christmas and holiday window dressingNew Year holidays are a special time. Every family wants to give a gift to their loved ones. This is the time of discounts, promotions and, of course, in the first place, the time of brisk trading. And certainly there is no getting away from fir trees in the most diverse designs: paper, cardboard, metal, wood in different colors - white, gold, silver and blue, even pink, and traditionally green. Idea @kovtundesign.ru. Installation of the art composition "Snow Blizzard" in the showcases of the network gave great pleasure to our decorators. The windows turned out to be fabulous, supporting the mood of the holiday and magic.
