Biography
Bette Midler is an American actress and singer, whom fans call the Divine Miss M, and became famous in the world of music, and in cinema, and on the stage. Bette went to her dream of a stage despite the condemnation of her relatives and, thanks to her talent, quickly gained success and recognition.
Childhood and adolescence
Bette Davis Midler was born December 1, 1945 years in Hawaiian Honolulu in a Jewish family. The childhood and youth of the future star were spent on the Pacific coast, next to orange and pineapple plantations.
The parents of the future star were not directly related to art, but they adored cinema. Therefore, choosing a name for the baby, they settled on Bette, paying tribute to the Hollywood diva and legend Bette Davis. The name seemed to have left an imprint on the fate of the girl: from early childhood she dreamed of the stage. In her school years, she already knew that she would certainly enter the stage of Broadway and Manhattan.
Nature rewarded the girl with an ear for music and a beautiful voice, which greatly upset her father. He believed that the profession of the singer is shrouded in a scandalous halo. Therefore, only Bette was happy with the main prize of the song contest held within the walls of the school. The father said that no decent guy would now take her as his wife.
It was then that young Midler decided to leave the city for a place where her talent would be appreciated. Entering the University of Hawaii at the Department of Drama, Bette fell into a circle of like-minded people. But she studied for only three months: her creative career began so rapidly that there was no time left to study.
Theater and films
The actress's cinematic biography started in 1965, when Midler was offered a cameo role in the film Hawaii. The film not only brought the aspiring artist the first fame, but also gave confidence that she had chosen the right path. Bette spent the fee on moving to New York, covered with her dreams, and immediately plunged into the world of theatrical art.
A year later, a talented girl was noticed and invited to the Broadway stage. She played the role of Zeitl in the musical Fiddler on the Roof for three years. The theater, to which Midler devoted a lot of energy in her youth, brought satisfaction, but not worldwide fame. The talent of a miniature artist (with a height of 1.55 m, Bette weighed 47 kg) was known only to the regulars of Manhattan theaters.

He became the producer of the future star and paved the way to fame. The first album, The Divine Miss M (1972), recorded by Bette with the help of Manilow, won her a Grammy Award. The following year, she recorded a second disc, Bette Midler, which was sold by the singer's American fans in a million copies.
Parallel work on Broadway also paid off: the artist's shows called Bette Midler and Bette Midler's Clams on the Half Shell Revue won her a Tony Award in 1974.
In 1979, the musical drama Rose was released, based on the life story of rock singer Janis Joplin. The picture was Midler's debut in the title role, and very successful: the tape earned more than $ 29 million at the box office, and the actress herself received two Golden Globes and nominations for BAFTA and Oscar. Brett recorded all the vocals for the film and won a Grammy for the soundtrack.
Success was followed by a resounding failure. American comedy "Jinxed!" (1982), the last of Don Siegel's career, barely made 20% of its $13.4 million budget at the box office. $ 14 million was $ 62 million, and Midler's collection of awards was replenished with a Golden Globe nomination. The artist's colleague on the set in this project was Nick Nolte, who, preparing for the role, lived homeless for five weeks.
The actress worked on the comedy Ruthless People with Danny DeVito and Judge Reinhold. The tape provided good fees ($ 71.6 million) and received positive reviews from critics.
In the comedy "On the Beach" (1988), Bette again demonstrated not only artistic, but also vocal abilities. She became the performer of most of the songs in the picture, the tracks were released on a separate disc of the same name. Against the backdrop of the success of the film, the collection also became popular, and the single Wind Beneath My Wings soared to the top of the charts in many countries and brought Midler another Grammy.

Initially, the role of Brenda, which Bette embodied, was offered to Barbra Streisand and Whoopi Goldberg, but the actresses did not appreciate the script and refused. The film was commercially successful and justified the $30 million budget six times.
Another box-office project with Bette's participation was the comedy What Women Want. Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt starred, while Midler was uncredited. The picture earned $ 374 million, which brought it to fourth place among the best films of 2000.
With the development of her film career, the artist did not abandon the stage and in 2017 received the Tony Award for her lead role in the musical Hello, Dolly!
In 2021, the Hollywood legend reminded herself of herself by voicing Grandma Addams in the animated film The Addams Family: Hot Tour. In the studio, she met with young Hollywood colleagues Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron and Chloe Grace Moretz.
Personal life
After leaving the house, the artist communicated only with her mother: her father was not happy about the success in her career. But after the death of his mother at the end of 19In the 90s, Bette took part in the fate of a loved one: he was diagnosed with cancer.

Fans find photos and news about the favorite of millions on the star's accounts on Twitter and Instagram (the social network is banned in Russia, it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation), where the artist publishes photos from events and announces new projects.
Bette Midler now
Bette is currently pursuing her artistic career. In 2022, her filmography was replenished with the sequel to the fantasy comedy Hocus Pocus (1993), directed by Kenny Ortega. For the sequel to the witch story Hocus Pocus 2, Anne Fletcher has assembled the main cast of the first part: Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cathy Najimy.
In July, Midler was at the center of an Internet scandal: for a post in support of women's rights to be called women on her Twitter account, the actress was attacked and accused of being transphobic and ignoring trans people.

Biography of Bette Midler
Bette Midler childhood in Hawaii
The divine Miss M, as her devoted fans still call her, two-time Oscar nominee, singer and actress Bette Midler was born on the first day of winter 1945 years in the Hawaiian city of Honolulu. Apparently, Bette was destined to become a screen star, because she even got her name in honor of the famous American actress Bette Davis. The Jewish Midler family lived in the Chinese region of Honolulu, the neighbors surrounding their house were entirely from Asian countries: Chinese, Polynesians, Vietnamese. Bette Midler spent her childhood among orange and pineapple plantations, but her heart was always drawn to the big city - to the stage of Manhattan and the legendary Broadway.
Actress Bette Midler and Denis de Vito
Little Bette did not like school: firstly, she dreamed of a stage since childhood, and secondly, she had absolutely no relationship with her peers who teased a neighbor who was not like them. Bette was punished for being short, belonging to the white race, and for her unusual appearance: the red-haired Betty loved sweets from childhood, from which her figure already in early childhood was distinguished by some fullness. In the future, Bette Midler's chic forms became her calling card, and although she still makes some efforts to curb her weight, Midler never suffered from painful thinness.Since childhood, Bette dreamed of becoming a singer, but the girl's father did not encourage such a dream. Being in high school, secretly from the family, the girl learned several Christmas songs and performed with them at the student singing competition. The result of her performance was the first prize of the competition, a scandal with her father, who said that now no decent guy would marry her, and the decision to leave her father's house as soon as possible in order to become a singer.
Bette Midler Singer Career: Broadway and Saunas
After graduating from high school, Bette became a student at the University of Hawaii. The drama department of this educational institution gave the future actress her first knowledge of acting, but the training did not last long - only three months, after which Bette expected her first cinematic triumph: a role in the film "Hawaii", released on screens in 1966.After filming the first film, Midler left her studies at the university and spent her earned fee on moving to the dream city of New York. In the big city, Bette Midler's theatrical career began - participation in productions and Broadway musicals. But ironically, it was not the theatrical stage that opened Bette's talent to a wide audience, but her performances in a gay sauna, where the aspiring star had to earn extra money singing songs by Rosemary Clooney and Bob Dylan. It was here that Bette met with the then-popular American musician Barry Manilow, who a couple of years later became the producer of her first albums.
This is how Bette Midler's musical career began: in 1970, the first album "The divine Miss M" was released, which brought the artist the first Grammy Award, and in 1973 - the album "Bette Midler", with great success on Broadway she went show.

After working in the film "Jinxed", which both the audience and critics accepted without much enthusiasm, Bette focused completely on her musical career for four years, but she could not return to the cinema. Since 1986, her dizzying career as a comedian in the cinema began: "Penniless in Beverly Hills", "Ruthless People", "Big Business". The films have become classics of American comedy cinema, and Bette Midler is the favorite of millions. In 1988, the film "On the Beach" was released and the audience remembered that Bette was primarily a dramatic actress. The song "Wind Beneath My Wings", performed by Midler as a soundtrack to the film, again brought her a Grammy statuette, the third of her career.Bette Midler in recent decades, life today
