The Spelling Manor is a regular stop on our star homes tours and was built by uber-producer Aaron Spelling, the creator of a boggling array of Hollywood TV shows including Charlie’s Angels, the Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Dynasty, Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed. He purchased the Bing Crosby’s former estate on the 6-acre property and demolished it to build the largest house in Los Angeles County.
It has 56,500 square feet, 17 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, a bowling alley, a 100-car garage, and entire floor devoted to closets.
Daughter Tori grew up here and Aaron hired the University of Southern California marching band to play here for her 8th grade graduation. After his death, his wife Candy decided to “downsize” to a 20,000 foot condo in Century City.
She listed the estate for $150 million, and after 2 years it finally sold for $85 million in cash to Petra Ecclestone, the 22-year-old daughter of Formula 1 magnate Bernie Ecclestone. She considered a number of other estates, including #5 on this list, but she settled on the Spelling Manor because she felt — wait for it — that this was more of a “family home.”
2. The Pritzker Estate, Beverly Hills

Second is the Pritzker Estate in Beverly Hills, owned by Anthony Pritzker, an heir to the Hyatt Hotels fortune. The main house sports 49,300 square feet, and the compound has has a two-level basement, bowling alley, game room, bar, media library, hairdressing area, gym, and an arts and crafts room.
The total of all buildings is over 53,000 square feet.

We also pass this estate on some of our Los Angeles tours and it’s one of my favorites. Mohammed Hadid, the ex-husband of Real Housewife of Beverly Hills Yolanda and friend of Lisa Vanderpump, built this house on a 2.2 acre lot just down the street from Liz Taylor’s former home.

It is a spare-no-expense masterpiece of high quality construction and old-world taste. It has 48,000 square feet, 10 bedrooms, 14 baths, and is rumored to have a construction cost of $59 million. The amenities include a 5,000 bottle wine cellar, a Moroccan room, a professional screening room, 19 fireplaces, and an elevator.
Hadid used to design 5-star hotels, and it looks like he’s brought this skill to mega-mansions. He recently sold a 35,000 square foot estate he built next door to the Beverly Hills Hotel for $58 million.
