Small bedroom ideas: Hidden storage
When it comes to storage in a small bedroom, shelving and extra rails will always provide you with extra places to pop your belongings. 'Having a smaller bedroom doesn’t necessarily mean having fewer clothes. With clever storage compartments such as GIMSE, clothes can be sorted and stored away whilst keeping the room looking tidy,' explains Clotilde Passalacqua, Interior Design Leader from IKEA UK and Ireland. 'Make the most of the wardrobe space by using SLÄKTING storage compartments to organise clothes in an efficient and smart way.'

Small bedroom ideas: All-over colour
'To create the feeling of more space in a small room, stick to one single colour, this will help create more space as with no point of reference and no contrasts, you’re less aware of where things stop and start,' explains Charlotte Cosby, Head of Creative at Farrow & Ball.
'Dependent on light direction, smaller spaces are more successful with the introduction of darker colours such as Sulking Room Pink or Treron as this distracts the eye from the size. For those who are less comfortable with using a single colour, use complementary whites a few shades lighter than the wall colour to avoid bringing the ceiling lower such as Parma Gray and School House White.'

What an excellent way to bring in added storage to a smaller bedroom through items such as an end-of-bed ottoman. Think about investing in a storage bed either with drawers or with an ottoman lift or if your budget prevents this, consider separate wheeled drawers that you can slide under the existing bed – just make sure you check the height from floor to bed,' says Caitlin Price, Head of Buying, Furniture & Flooring at John Lewis & Partners.

10 basic rules - INMYROOM
Interior decor
Creating a cozy nest in a small bedroom is much easier due to its size. And simple rules will help you organize storage, choose colors and decor, and choose furniture
A modest bedroom is often not a tribute to the lack of living space, but quite an intuitive choice for a person who wants to retire and feel comfortable. The tightness does not suffocate, but makes the bedroom cozy, returning us to the feelings of early childhood, when boundaries and frames serve as a guarantee of our safety and emotional comfort. However, the dimensions dictate certain rules that allow you to create a harmonious space for relaxation and a productive start to a new day. Obvious or inspired by modern fashion trends, these principles are designed to relieve tension, distract from obsessive thoughts, and contribute to an easy and pleasant awakening.
1. Pastel is a win-win option
In a small space, color tends not to draw attention to itself. Pale walls with a slight tint serve as a backdrop for furniture and decor. Is this rule so immutable? Yes and no. Man is extremely sensitive to color. Whether we want to eat, sleep, lazy or ready to work - these are by no means subjective states and they largely depend on the environment. So, the choice of a delicate pastel shade for the walls in the bedroom is obvious. Calm and neutral color does not interfere with our lives and visually the room looks more spacious.
If neutral hues seem too subdued for you, personalize the room with deep and rich colors. Blue, velvety grey, all the way to black, vibrant shades of turquoise or orange are the perfect choice for a bedroom. Be careful with scarlet and dark red - these active colors can cause discomfort. From the point of view of psychologists, purple also negatively affects the emotional state of a person, especially during critical periods of life.
2. Furniture – elegant and simple
It's no secret that a small bedroom full of massive furniture turns into a closet. But abandoning the bed in favor of a sofa bed just because of the modest dimensions of the room is also a mistake. In order for large furniture to harmoniously fit into the interior, it is enough to observe a few nuances.
First of all, choose elegant models with high graceful legs - let the furniture seem to float above the floor and not weigh down the space. Secondly, paradoxically, give preference to overall models. If you don't want to feel like Gulliver in your own bedroom, it's better to put one comfortable chair than two small ones and a tiny coffee table in the middle. And finally, remember about the palette: regardless of the color of the walls, floor and ceiling, the main furniture should not be bright. Preferred shades are white, gray, natural light wood.
3. Textile - bright accents
Everything is allowed for textiles in a small room. Well, almost everything. Perhaps the only limitation is that it should not be too much. Woe decorative pillows and three-layer curtains say a strict "No". Colored carpet, provocative headboard upholstery, handmade bedspread - an unequivocal "Yes". At the same time, remember a very simple and obvious rule: the paler the walls and furniture, the brighter the textile accents can be. And vice versa.
Many people leave the choice of bed linen for later and do not consider it part of the overall decor of the bedroom. Nevertheless, it is it that emphasizes the individuality, character and taste of the owners. Leave colorful pillowcases and contrasting sheets for the children's room. Classics - white bed linen: it looks advantageous in absolutely any interior.
4. Window - less is more
Often in small rooms, window sills become additional storage space - the window simply ceases to exist. To cover the mess of things, we hang thick curtains that deprive the room of natural light. Get rid of gloomy curtains, decorate the windows with light tulle and remove absolutely everything from the windowsills - you will see, your room will instantly change.
If you are a happy owner of a bedroom with a balcony, then you can completely abandon the curtains. Be sure to free the balcony from trash and organize a thoughtful storage system here. Also, try to find space for a couple of chairs and a breakfast table!
5. Light - there is never too much
Light is the main spice in a dish called "interior decor". He is able to “kill” the most outstanding work or, conversely, hide flaws. This gray cardinal controls our perception of the surrounding space, atmosphere and mood. To work to your advantage, the light must not be chaotic. Set it to three levels - top-main, middle-backlight and floor-mood light.
A traditional ceiling light is responsible for the overhead light. It can be absolutely anything - large and miniature, regardless of the size of the room. Middle tier - spotlights, sconces and reading lamps. And, finally, the most intriguing, soft and diffused, responsible for the special atmosphere in the room, is the floor lamp light. All three levels rarely function simultaneously. In the bedroom, floor lamps and reading lamps are most relevant: they create the main illumination of the interior in the evening.
6. Storage is the foundation
The secret of the comfort of a small room is not at all the color of the walls or carefully selected furniture, but the order. And if there are a lot of things, and there is not enough space, then when organizing the wardrobe, you will need to show resourcefulness.
Install a spacious wardrobe for things, but use the space under the bed to store bed linen - for this, give preference to models with a lifting mechanism or equipped with drawers. If there is a place in the room for an ottoman or a pouffe, purchase items with a storage function. And of course, think vertically: use the wall surface all the way to the ceiling by attaching compact shelves for books and knick-knacks to it.
7. Decor is a private matter
The bedroom is not the best place to house collections and a home art gallery. Traditionally, decorators have maintained a restrained design, trying not to overload the interior and not create additional sources of dust accumulation. Several symmetrical reading lights or sconces above the bed are a good solution for the bedroom.
Mirrors are an excellent decorative element for the bedroom. In addition to aesthetic beauty, they visually increase the space. Mirror doors can be cabinet doors or, less trivial, the head of the bed. A screen with mirrored walls will not only decorate the interior, but also delicately zone the space.
8. Interior door - special preferences
The door to the bedroom is also an element of interior design. The choice of door color depends on the style of the interior and the color scheme of the room. Matching doors with flooring look harmonious, especially against the background of light walls and darker floors. An equally advantageous solution would be to choose the color of the doors in accordance with the shade of the walls. Classic and almost always a good choice - white doors. Platbands and skirting boards of the same shade can act as a link, then the door will fit very organically into the interior and become its continuation.
The wider and higher the door, the larger the room will appear. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to install a wide swing door, however, you can increase the doorway upwards and order a higher door leaf. This technique will visually raise the ceilings.
An excellent space saving option is the sliding door. The mechanism is hidden in the wall and, unlike the classic swing door, you do not lose the useful area of the walls.
9. Wallpaper - new retro
Today, wallpaper is less and less associated with a finishing agent and is perceived more as an element of decor. As a rule, they are used to highlight one of the walls in the room, for example, behind the head of the bed. Wallpaper is used for interior decoration of cabinets and chests of drawers, which looks great in combination with a similar pattern on the wall. The choice of wallpaper type for the bedroom is practically unlimited - paper, more durable vinyl or non-woven, original and elegant textile, modern fiberglass and more individual photo wallpapers.
Wallpaper with a large pattern is not the best choice for a bedroom: an already small space will be made even more cramped. From the point of view of the geometry of space, a small pattern is more suitable for small rooms, ideally located vertically. General recommendations when choosing a wallpaper color are the same as when choosing a paint: cool shades - blue, green, blue - are ideal for rooms that are well lit. Northern bedrooms, deprived of sunlight, will warm warmer colors - yellow, orange, burgundy.
10. Bricklaying - exactly as intended
A small loft-style bedroom is a rather controversial idea. Brick, however, like any stone, natural or man-made, is a rather heavy material, literally and figuratively. And yet, if during the repair, you found a beautiful brickwork under a layer of plaster - do not rush to hide it back. Let part of the wall remain unfinished, but the rest of the surfaces should be leveled and painted white. Such a contrasting duet looks very beautiful.
The natural color of the brick is too expressive and bright for a small room. If you want to decorate the walls with clinker tiles, paint them white. The texture of the stone will remain, but it will look much "lighter". Brickwork loves contrasting combinations - white walls, black window frames, wooden beams on the ceiling, dark floors and bright red doors. And if you get carried away, you can find yourself surrounded by a brutal male interior, which is not suitable for everyone. Nevertheless, the dosed use of clinker in the design almost always looks appropriate and even bohemian.

Manhattan Renovations
A bed with storage drawers or built-in shelves has become a staple. But in fact, there are many more ways to make your small bedroom not only functional, but also chic.
Contents of the article
Why is space important in the bedroom?
The bedroom should be your sanctuary. Ideally, it should have enough space for storing personal items and for relaxing. But when you're faced with limited space, creating a cozy bedroom becomes a challenge. We often choose functionality over design. The result is a cluttered, dull and not very pretty bedroom.
ADVERTISING - CONTINUED BELOW
Use the ceiling
Space is limited in a small bedroom. Get creative and look at what is often overlooked: the ceiling. Hanging decorative items not only free up the area below, but also draw attention. This effect gives the illusion of more volume inside a small room.
Photo: Manhattan Renovations
Instead of using bedside tables, hang lights from the ceiling. This creates a vertical line and opens up the space below, making the room brighter, less cluttered and even more stylish.
Pendant lights come in a variety of sizes and styles, from simple glass balls to delicate crystals, and are an incredible way to transform an ordinary bedroom into an extraordinary one. Pay attention to pendant lamps with stones or shiny elements. In the dark, they will shimmer beautifully and create an atmosphere of magic.
By the same principle, window drapery can be started from the ceiling instead of hanging curtains on the wall at window level. Most curtains can be fixed anywhere - use this opportunity. The length and vertical lines of the curtains will visually raise the ceiling and make the room bigger. A bright color will add spice to the room.
Attach to the wall
This trick works well for large furniture in your small bedroom: embed part of the closet or bed into the wall. Merging with the wall, such furniture gives the bedroom a more streamlined look.
Bedside tables or small chests of drawers can be attached to the wall, leaving space underneath to store shoes in stylish baskets. Do not forget to check with the experts on which mount is best to hang furniture and whether the wall can handle it.
Photo: Capomastro Group
Look around your bedroom and find a place where you can use long shelves instead of a closet. Shelves screwed to the wall, in this case, will look better than a massive cabinet.

Make the most of your bed
With the bed as the focal point, you can't go wrong with any size bedroom. However, this is especially true in a small bedroom because it adds personality to the room and draws attention to the design rather than the diminutive size of the room.
There are many creative solutions for bedside walls. Mural, paint color, and even wallpaper can be effective if you choose economical options. Creating a gallery wall above your bed can also be a way to give your bedroom a special touch.
Photo: Churreria Photography
An unexpected solution would be to install the bed as a headboard near the window, or to simulate a window above the headboard. You can evenly attach decorative shutters, wrought iron ornaments or wood painted in the original color to the wall. Just make sure the panel won't get in the way of the pillows and position it however you like.
Buy folding furniture
The bed takes up the most space in the bedroom. To optimize a limited area, buy folding furniture. For example, you can find a folding dressing table or a laptop desk that leans away from the wall. A hanging organizer for small items will also significantly expand the space.
Photo: dwelling
The classic folding bedroom furniture is, of course, the roll-up bed. This is a great option for saving space in a one-room apartment or for a guest bedroom, which is often combined with the owner's office. A lift bed option may be considered if you just have a very small bedroom and are used to sleeping on a large bed. Modern lift beds are often built into a closet or shelving unit. It's good to add a decorative component to the outer surface of the flap. A pattern on the back of a closed table or table will add a visually interesting element to the room.
Take a fresh look at doors
No matter where the door leads, whether it is the entrance to a room or part of a closet, it must always open and close. Consider replacing traditional doors with stylish folding or sliding doors. They take up less space because they don't need space around to open.
Photo: Esther Hershcovich
Another way to improve the function of bedroom doors is to provide them with light filters or reflective materials. A frosted glass door can make a small room feel less closed off. Similarly, a mirrored closet door can make a room appear larger.
Add mirrors
Mirrors are your best friend in a small bedroom. Medium and large mirror can be placed anywhere - there are no strict rules.
